Drospirenone for Birth Control "I started taking Slynd in February 2022, and it’s May 2022 now. The first month, I had light spotting when my period was due and REALLY bad cramps, which I’ve never had, super bad cramps before. I couldn’t move because of them, and they lasted about 10 minutes (not exaggerating). I am about to start my 4th pack and haven’t had a period. I haven’t had any spotting or bleeding for months 2 and 3. I have anxiety, so I’m very anxious about being pregnant. I keep taking tests because I’m so anxious. It also has affected my mood dramatically. I have depression and anxiety already, and the reason I switched to this birth control was because it was supposed to help with my PMDD. It made it worse. I almost got sent to a residential mental facility. I became extremely angry and extremely depressed (considered suicide heavily). I’m glad to see it worked for a lot of people, but it’s just not for me…"

Drospirenone for Birth Control "Switched from COC to this because I get headaches and needed something better for acne. The first month was great, with no side effects. In the second month, I had heavy breakthrough bleeding for about a week, but it resolved. However, that’s when insomnia started too. I have narcolepsy and never have had insomnia or issues staying asleep. I get up to pee and can’t go back to bed, and my anxiety and depression (never had depression before) are through the roof. I do believe it’s helping my skin, but this is not worth the scary way I feel. Switching to Yaz and hoping that helps. I had so much faith in this pill, and I’m sure it works for many, just did not for me. I’m 6 days away from finishing my second pack and haven’t slept through the night in weeks. I’ve missed work and school."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I’ve been taking Slynd for about 7 months now, and switched to this just to try it out after previously taking norethindrone for years and just not liking the way my feet would swell up on it. With Slynd, I no longer retain water weight like I did with the previous pill, but my cycle is crazy whacked out. I get my period pretty much every other week for about 5-7 days, sometimes it’s full bleeding with all the period symptoms (cramps, back pain, fatigue, grouchiness, headaches, brain fog) and other times it’s just light bleeding. It’s not regular at all, and I feel like I’m constantly dealing with PMS or menstruation. Psychologically, I’m exhausted all the time but can’t fall asleep, irritable, restless, and depressed. It took me a while to even consider it might be the birth control, but that’s the only variable that’s changed. I’m glad to hear that this works so well for other people, but unfortunately, I can’t wait to switch back to norethindrone."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I went on this pill to try to control bleeding from fibroids. It made it worse. I bled every day for 2 months and then stopped this pill. Also experienced tiredness, depression, breast tenderness. This did not work for me. Now on Loestrin, and it’s great. I feel so much better and only light spotting the first month."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "Two weeks in, Slynd has been causing an increase in appetite and an intense depressive episode - hypersomnia, anhedonia, the whole shebang. I haven't had a depressive episode in over a year, so I was very confused until I remembered that I recently started a new medication. This is a huge deal breaker, and I am stopping Slynd immediately."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I'm 41, a smoker, and used to have depression and migraine problems. Before Slynd, I was a year on Camila, which gave me severe mood swings, uncontrollable anger, and depression (with suicidal thoughts) all the time, plus heavy bleeding twice a month for the last 5 months. My GYN recommended Slynd. I'm on my second pack now, and that’s what I noticed. My depression went away completely! My mood is stable every day (before it was changing from anger to tears, then to stupid excitement several times during the day). It's funny, I feel happier now. I wake up easier in the morning. I lost 6 pounds for a month on Slynd (eating the same things as before). No interest in alcohol at all, I just don't drink it (before, I used to have a glass or two every evening, maybe because I was constantly depressed). Skin is softer, no acne so far (on Camila, skin was clean as well, but extremely dry and felt like a sand mask on my face, constantly like you touch a kiwi). No headaches at all now. Period lasts 6 days."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I've already been four months on this pill, and I'm having the worst acne of my life. I thought it'd improve with time, but no, it remains the same, and I'm not able to cope with it. I've already spent a lot of money on products and treatments, and what is more, I'm constantly dehydrated, have to wake up at night to pee, feel weak and depressed, no sex drive... definitely gonna quit right now."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "This is my first experience with birth control. I can honestly say, after taking Slynd, I will never try birth control again. I became extremely depressed to the point where I didn’t care about anything anymore. I did have some breakthrough bleeding, but that wasn’t a deal breaker for me. The impact on my mental health was extreme and way too much to deal with. I encourage anyone considering this birth control to proceed with caution."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I'm wrapping up my first month on Slynd after never having been on any form of birth control before, and I'm 25. My gyno recommended it, so I figured it wouldn't hurt to try because I was nervous about getting an IUD. I had breakthrough bleeding for the first ~2.5 weeks, but my worst side effect has been an increase in depression and bad moods. I already experience anxiety and depression, and Slynd has exacerbated my depression to the extent of my boyfriend saying I should get off of it because I've been so down the past few weeks. I have no desire to get up in the morning, every little thing upsets me, I'm super lethargic and I feel as if there's a raincloud over my head at all times. I'm usually very optimistic and happy, and I haven't felt truly like myself over the past month. I want to see if my body adjusts because I still have 2 more packs, but I may not be able to wait. :("

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I am on my 6th month of Slynd. I was on Yaz before and loved it. But I was having constant migraines. My gyno switched me to Slynd. I have PCOS and endo. I have ChampVA insurance and it's not covered. My prices have ranged from 40 to 90 bucks. I have not had my period the entire time I have been on Slynd, and I have taken the placebo. A few days before, during, and after the placebo pills, I have dark, clotted blood only when I wipe. No real bleeding. My cramps are insane. The cysts are so awful. My back pain/sciatica nerve pain makes me cry. I have cystic acne and a ton of acne all over my face and back. I have never had acne this bad. The worst part... I have gained 30 pounds since starting this!! I am done. While I haven't had any migraines and haven't gotten pregnant... it's not worth my self-confidence that is making my depression and anxiety so much worse (I have had Mirena before and did fine with it. NuvaRing I got pregnant on. I have 2 kids, and I am 31.)"

Drospirenone "For the first time in my life, I am currently not taking painkillers to manage my period cramps. I am 27 years old and have always experienced severe menstrual cramps, which ibuprofen barely helped to alleviate. So, I started taking metamizole for the pain, but my flow is also very heavy. I have explored alternative medicine and tried a mini pill, but I had to stop taking it after three weeks due to weight gain and depression. Then I started taking Slynd, but for the first three months, I had my period twice a month, and the bleeding was just as heavy and painful as always. Furthermore, I experienced light bleeding in between the periods, so I only had about three days of no bleeding each month. It was a terrible experience. However, during the third blister's placebo pills, I didn't experience any bleeding, and all breakthrough bleeding stopped until day 11 of the next blister. My gynecologist has informed me that everything is looking good, and my period seems to be occurring in the middle of the blister. Although the flow is still heavy and there is some cramping, I haven't had to use any painkillers. I am currently in my fourth month of taking Slynd and plan to continue with it."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I was prescribed Slynd to help my ovarian endometriosis. I am on month 4 at the moment and have been skipping the placebo pills as prescribed. I have experienced bleeding and brown spotting, which lasts for 3-4 weeks in a row (!) with only a 1-1.5 week break. Among other side effects are mood swings, depression, acne, and low sex drive. However, one of the endo cysts did diminish from 8 to 5 cm, so apparently that is thanks to the drug. The smaller cyst has stayed the same size so far."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I gave this pill a try on three separate occasions. Thankfully, no hormone-induced anxiety, depression, or anger like with the combo pill. The horrible part was the constant bleeding. I'm on the third try with this pill at the recommendation of my OB. Had to stop the first time for a uterine biopsy and the second time for bleeding. She assured me if I skip non-hormone pills, no issues. I am on day 45, yes, 45 of non-stop bleeding and discontinued last week. 39-year-old female with fibroids. Horrible experience."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "Month 1 was amazing. Period was light and slightly shorter. I had some side effects (acne, headache), but that was to be expected. Month 2: Period came in the middle of the pack and lasted ~13 days. I decided to keep taking Slynd since it had only been two months. Month 3: Period came on week three, lasted ten days. I decided to skip the placebo pills because I didn’t want to bleed again and wanted to see if that would change anything. Month 4: Week 2 and I’m bleeding again. Meaning I only got one week of no blood so far for October. I’m not in control of my emotions. I’m angry all the time, crying. I don’t feel like myself at all. Peeing constantly. I’m tired and depressed and having brain fog, although I’m not attributing everything to Slynd. My boobs, back, and side hurt constantly. No weight gain, boobs may have gotten bigger?? I’m not comfy relying solely on condoms, so not sure what to do."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I know they say to give it 3-6 months for adjustment, but I had to stop this without even completing the third week. I started it on the first day of my period. Initial side effects were feeling emotionally numb, low libido, nausea, and insomnia. A few days in, mild heart palpitations. By day 17, my period still hadn’t stopped (usually 3-4 days long). I have a ton of pain when I bleed, so I was constantly out of commission. I was crying on and off for no reason every day and filled with anxiety, which is abnormal for me. I felt like I was going to have a mental breakdown. Terrible food aversions. I also began waking up with more severe chest pains and quit it on day 17 or 18. Three days after quitting, I’m still bleeding heavily and feeling miserable. I’m not sure how much longer the bleeding will continue. Maybe things would have leveled out eventually, but it got too bad for me to find out. I really couldn’t function on it."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I’ve been on Slynd for 13 months and no pregnancy. I am militaristic about taking it at the same time every day, though. I really wanted this to work because outside of breakthrough bleeding and mood swings, this was fine. I thought I could handle it. But I have periods 2x a month, and I have developed depression accompanied by massive mood swings. I scare myself sometimes. I am not this person, I feel lethargic and out of it, no emotion outside of the crazy mood swings (my poor husband)."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I have been using this birth control for about nine months now. I went on it because my last one was making me have terrible mood swings and depression. This birth control has allowed me to balance my emotions but has also made my cycle very painful and irregular. I don't know if I should continue to look for another one."

For Birth Control "I suffer from bad acne on my back, chest, and neck and have only had minimal acne on my face. I started taking Slinda Drospirenone in July 2022 to treat my acne. The first 2 months were fine, but around the 3rd month, the acne returned and progressively got worse. It affected my face, back, neck, and chest. My hair had thinned, and I was losing clumps of hair, not just a few strands. I have never had any symptoms of any kind when on contraceptives until now. Please do not take this if you do not want major acne, hair loss, migraines, and depression! I’ll be stopping this pill for good."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "So I’ve been taking this birth control for about two months now, about to be on my third month starting next week. My periods haven’t been that bad, truly, I am not gonna lie, I did have cramping, and I did spot for like a week or two before my period. It is just like the mental aspect I do struggle with, like anxiety, and I get extremely sad around my PMS. Same time, that’s why I thought I had PMDD for a long time, but I might just think it’s just like when every time I go on a birth control, I get extremely depressed and very on and off with my feelings. I just can’t control my feelings with this birth control, and I don’t know if I’m the only one experiencing this. Some days I’m happy about life, and other times I just want to push away my loved ones."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I'm on my 4th month. Still bleeding halfway through a pack and not at all during the time I'm supposed to bleed. My sex drive has taken a nosedive, and natural self-lubricating is pretty nonexistent now. I had some issues with my lips, tongue, and mouth tingling or feeling 'asleep' and some morning nausea when I first started taking it. My Dr. wants me to take it to control abnormal menstruation and fibroids. I also feel off... depressed, but different than what I've felt in the past. I'm more anxious, I feel on the verge of a panic attack, emotionally off."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I am 39 and have been on many different kinds of birth control. All have made me depressed and anxious, some even thoughts of hurting myself. I went to my OB-GYN with complaints of heavy periods. I have been on Slynd for a month and am pleased for the most part. No period, just light spotting. No severe PMS. It did make me hungrier and I put on 5 lbs. It has made me a bit more introverted, but has not had the extreme effects other BC have had. If it stays like this I will stay on it long-term."

Drospirenone "So the first month on Slynd was pretty great for my PMDD symptoms. I was taking these continuously, no placebo pills. I still had breakthrough bleeding at around the end of the first month, it was light spotting that lasted about 9 days. Not a deal breaker. What was, after I stopped spotting, I experienced pretty bad depression from having no energy to do anything! I was trying to stick it out while my body adjusted for 2-3 months, but it seemed to just be getting worse by the day. THEN I started getting loose stool and cramps every day. The GI stuff was also getting worse by the day, I had to quit. I tried Yaz next, which has the same type of progestin as Slynd. Within days of starting that, the GI issues returned. I have had Nexplanon and the mini pill in the past, which have a different progestin and did not cause these GI issues. I believe since drospirenone has unique properties from the other progestins, it can cause GI issues in some."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I had to switch BC after 6 years of taking the combination pill because I suddenly started to experience aura migraines. My last oral contraceptive option was Slynd, so I gave it a try. I am quitting after a month. The main reason: I missed my period. I don't like to miss a period. It triggers my anxiety. I am even still recovering from my last anxiety attack that lasted 3 days because of this problem. I just need a confirmation that I am not pregnant, so I rely on the withdrawal bleeding every month. If you feel the same way, I wouldn't recommend this pill. My mood also changed throughout the month, not for the better. Felt a bit more depressed than usual, lol."

Drospirenone for Birth Control "I'm 21 years old, and I have PCOS and Hashimoto's. I've had hormonal acne since I was 11. I have spent thousands of dollars on dermatologists, medical-grade skincare, facials, intense peels, microneedling, antibiotic prescriptions, etc., and nothing has ever worked like Slynd has to clear up my skin. I have only been taking it for one week, and I cannot believe how good my skin looks compared to what it looked like before. I had cystic acne on my jawline, chin, and neck, and now when I touch those areas, my skin is smooth, and it hasn't been in years. I could literally cry. Slynd has anti-androgenic effects, so if you have hyperandrogenism or PCOS, give this a try. I have been on spironolactone before (which did help, but not this fast and not even this well) and had to stop taking it after my dose was raised to 50mg due to dizziness, which led to anxiety. I cannot take BC with estrogen because of depression. I can only take POPs - I've taken norethindrone BC, and it made my skin worse. Slynd is amazing."
