For Birth Control "I was on Yaz for about three months. I became moody, emotional, it gave me headaches, lowered my sex drive, and gave me anxiety. I just did not feel like myself on this pill. I have since switched to LOESTRIN, and so far, it's been good. No side effects yet. I'm feeling like myself again. My sex drive is still not what it used to be, but I understand that most birth control pills cause a decrease in libido. I personally do not recommend Yaz, but I know that each pill works differently for different people. My friends that were on Yaz said the same things that I am saying."

For Acne "I was hesitant about going on birth control. So far, Yaz is great. The Depo shot gave me bad side effects: acne, mood swings, anxiety. Came off of it, it took me an entire year to regulate my acne and period. I have awfully heavy, irregular, painful periods. We suspect endometriosis (congenital for me) but aren’t ready to diagnose. After Depo, my skin felt better, still, I was blemishing only hormonal areas. My period would come and throw my pH out of whack, and I’d wind up with BV. This is only my second week on Yaz, however, I started on the first day of my period as instructed. My hormonal acne areas seem to be clearing (light breakouts in different areas) from hormonal adjusting, I think. My breasts are growing. I had a light period with no BV. I will finish this month, then come back. If you are struggling with BV, irregular, painful or heavy periods, and hormonal acne, then Yaz is worth a try."

For Birth Control "I am three weeks into my pill pack, and for the past six days, I've cried every day, lashed out at my friends, and contemplated suicide. I've dealt with anxiety and depression in the past, but before starting it, I was in a very good spot mentally. I can't say for certain that this pill caused my psychotic break, but I've never experienced something like this before. Thank you to all the women who have posted on this, sharing the same struggle. While the pill affects people differently, if you've struggled with mental issues in the past, I highly recommend looking for a different option."

For Birth Control "Although this pill did clear up my acne (that was caused by a different pill) and prevent me from becoming pregnant, it caused me to be extremely depressed and anxious around the 9th month of usage. It also caused me extreme mood swings. If you're prone to or already have anxiety or depression, I would not recommend this pill."

For Acne "I am about to start my 9th month with Yaz. I originally started the pill to help improve my moderate cystic acne caused by hormones and a lot of strength, shorten the lengths of my periods, which were initially 9 days long, and less painful cramps. The Yaz has been amazing, for the duration of my period, it now goes for 3-4 days, and I rarely ever experience cramps. But on the acne side of things, I have seen 0 difference, there has been no difference, and I am on my 9th month. This is a bit sad since that was the reason I began taking birth control. While on the Yaz, I have had side effects of depression, extreme anxiety, and just whack mood swings."

For Birth Control "I decided to try Yaz to clear up my skin, as my twin sister has been on the same pill for almost a year, and her skin is absolutely perfect!! It's been about 6 weeks since I first started taking Yaz, and I have completely lost who I am!! I started getting bad thoughts, anxiety, mood swings, depression, unable to fall or stay asleep, and meanwhile, my skin has only gotten worse. I blamed myself for being broken and unable to just act normal, and now, after reading everyone else's comments, I realize it's all from Yaz. Please do not take this pill... it's not worth the side effects and the hefty price it costs as well!!!!"

For Acne "I’ve started taking Yaz a couple of months ago, and things went bad. Even though it will clear your acne and be an effective birth control, it completely messed me up. I started having crazy heart palpitations, waking up crying in the middle of the night, and having illogical fears and anxiety. My doctor prescribed me heart medication and recommended seeing a psychologist for depression. Yaz did more harm than good for me!"

For Birth Control "Never had this problem with a birth control before. Intense discharge, crying, anxiety that prevented me from going to school/sports/work, lucid dreams, impossible to get out of bed, and exhausted all day. I hate this pill."

For Birth Control "I'm switching back to YAZ after trying another least expensive birth control. I would rather pay $60 a month for YAZ than to be on all the other pills that made me extremely moody, anxious, and nauseous. With YAZ, I didn't feel like I was on birth control. I felt like my normal self, with my normal sex drive, normal weight, but without the monster cramps, severe acne, and moodiness before my period, and the long 8-day cycle. I would recommend it to anyone who has tried a lot of different pills that had too many bad side effects."

For Birth Control "I've been taking Yaz for over a year now. I switched to it from Necon 1/35. I was interested in a lower dose over the long term. My anxiety decreased and blood sugar leveled. However, I improved my eating and exercise habits, so I cannot truly attribute the cause or cessation of any symptoms to either pill. Yaz must be taken at the same time daily or spotting may occur. I cannot attest to its ability to prevent pregnancy as I use other methods concurrently. I would continue on Yaz if it were not so expensive."

For Birth Control "I was on it for 2 months and got extremely moody, emotional, anxious, and tired. I went to my OBGYN and asked her if I should stop it. I was told to give it more time. I am normally a bubbly, happy person, so I wasn't sure what was going on. Nevertheless, I stopped the pill because I didn't need it. After I got off it, I had the best 6 months of my life where I was happy and confident. I started dating someone and went on the pill again 5 weeks ago. I started feeling insecure, anxious, paranoid, and started believing and accusing him of not being into me and got mad at him over little things. I had heavy bleeding for 2 weeks straight, and a week before my period, I went into depression and had severe migraines. Will not take this drug ever again."

For Birth Control "I've been on Yaz for about three years now. I've been on the pill for 12 years. At first, it agreed with my body, but then I realized that it caused awful anxiety and mild depression. Every single day I am low, and when I'm on the placebo pills, I feel so happy. I feel like myself. I don't feel like I am being controlled by a medication. As soon as I start taking the pill again, I feel down and anxious. I still ovulate on this pill, and I have still gotten endometriosis and burst cysts on it. It helped my skin, but it causes more damage elsewhere. I am planning to get off the pill once and for all."

For Birth Control "This pill was horrid. I had irregular periods with a very heavy flow, mood swings, depression, anxiety, anger issues, cramps, etc. This is the worst pill I've ever taken. Gave it a 3 because it worked as a birth control, but other than that, it's a 1."

"I have severe polycystic ovary syndrome, and I decided to try YAZ to see if it could help. I only took it for 12 days, and I felt like a maniac. On the first 5 days, I didn't feel anything, but then I started to feel anxiety, irritability, and so sad, all the time. I also felt my body very swollen, my belly was as if I was 5 months pregnant. I literally went from 60 kg to 64 kg because of how bloated I was. My organism is very complicated when it comes to hormones, and I've tried many ways of dealing with it – the IUD was the less terrible, TBH, but I must say YAZ was a nightmare for me."

For Birth Control "I was on the pill called Diane when I was in my early 20s and found that it made me anxious and depressed. I went off the pill altogether because it scared me. I found that I started to break out after I got off it and no matter what face products I used, the pimples would not go away. I then went to my GP and explained the effects that I got from my recent experience with the pill. She then recommended that I try Yaz. It was the best advice I have ever been given. It took a few months to kick in but my period pains aren't as bad as they used to be, I'm happier, my sex drive is great, and my pimples are finally clearing up! Although this has worked for me, I would suggest speaking with your GP to see if this is right for you."

For Birth Control "I have been suffering with extremely, EXTREMELY heavy, long, and moody periods since I was 12. I am now 18 and have had the Implanon rod inserted, which did nothing, and then put on the pill alongside another medication to lighten the blood flow. This is the third pill I have tried, hoping it would help my periods. The first week of taking Yaz, I am anxious, moody, having headaches every day, and suffering cramps and body aches. I am now booking in to see a gynecologist, and I advise anybody who has been through years of crazy periods to skip the doctors and go straight to a specialist."

For Birth Control "Got on it to regulate my period (which it did, but also gave it to me 2x/month). Developed severe depression, anxiety, gained 30 lbs, and was all around one of the worst experiences of my life. After my doctor told me to give it time to let my body get used to it, I pushed through another couple of months until it was clear the birth control was the issue. Been months off of it and still suffering some secondary side effects, but the bulk of it is gone. Would seriously not recommend."

For Menstrual Disorders "I am a 23-year-old lean PCOS girl (high DHEAS and LH/FSH ratio off - no cysts). I started to take this pill in order to help my PCOS symptoms (depression, anxiety, fatigue, hirsutism, hair loss, irregular cycles). I knew it would take around 3 months for my body to get used to this pill, and I ended up taking it for 4. I really wanted this pill to work for me. However, the first 2-3 months were an extreme emotional roller coaster. My appetite increased dramatically, and I gained a few pounds. I felt slightly better in the 3rd month, however, my mood went downwards in the 4th month. I had extreme mood swings and would feel depressed, emotional like I had bad PMS two weeks out of the month. Pills can affect your thyroid! Be cautious!"

For Birth Control "I'm 19, and I had never taken any birth control before Yaz. It completely cleared up my acne, and my breasts significantly increased in size but were very sore all the time. I had no noticeable weight gain or hair loss/growth or spotting. My sex drive was bipolar, however, and taking the pill also gave me occasional slight dizziness, yeast infection, moodiness, anxiety, and even depression, which I had never experienced before. I often had intense headaches and stomach aches but no nausea. My period didn't seem to get any lighter or shorter, and PMS, though typically not much of an issue for me, was no different. I got to a point where I just felt awful and had to stop taking it after about 3 months."

For Birth Control "I had the worst mood swings on Yaz. Cried basically every day over the stupidest things, made me extremely tired and stressed, and made me gain a ton of weight. After a year of being on it, I switched to Tri-Cyclen and couldn't be happier."

For Birth Control "I wanted to say I had high hopes for this pill. I was on Alesse before Yaz. It was great at first, but then Alesse started to make me depressed after 5 months. My doctor prescribed Yaz. Usually, I'm very cheerful and happy, especially these days when NOTHING IS WRONG. Day 1 on Yaz, I started to have anxiety and panic attacks about every little thing. Day 2, I would cry for no reason and felt anxious all day. If I wasn't crying, it was because I was distracting myself from the bad thoughts that kept creeping up on me. Day 3, I couldn't be alone without freaking out, just panic attacks. I can't function like this!!"

For Birth Control "It was on the fourth month, my condition got better but still with bouts of migraine, and what I noticed is that I somehow smell 'down there.' Though my BV was treated more than five months ago, I became worried about it. Before the fifth pack, I forgot to take a pill, so I had to follow how to continue it. I stopped by the fifth pack because I simply couldn't take it anymore. Migraine was so severe, and depression and anxiety made me feel restless. I bled again. The smell of my discharge is not really good, like there was something rotten (I don't use tampons). I gained weight too, though I have lesser acne. But I can't prolong my agony anymore, so I stopped."

For Acne "I've always had bad anxiety about new medications and scared myself quite a bit reading reviews when I first started taking this for PCOS. Luckily, the only main symptoms of PCOS I had before were irregular bleeding/spotting and some acne. The first month wasn't horrible but wasn't great, my period lasted almost 2 weeks, I had some breast tenderness and some bad (but manageable) cramping. However, after taking it for about 5 months now, I can say it has dramatically improved my situation. I was nervous about gaining weight, but I am a fit, healthy person who works out, so I actually ended up losing a few lbs. The best thing is that for the first time in my life, I have a regular period, with minimal cramping and a lighter flow. The only negatives are that if you don't take it at the same time or skip a pill, you will immediately get breakthrough bleeding that can last for quite some time, and also my depression/anxiety has gotten a bit worse, although I can't say for sure the Yaz has caused it."

For Birth Control "So I went on this as a form of birth control. I had been on Depo-Provera injection and decided to try something new due to the weight gain. I have been on Yaz for a total of 9 days, and I hate it. It has made me so emotional, depressed, anxious, and antisocial. I absolutely adore hanging out with my boyfriend, and ever since starting the second week of this medication, I have not been wanting to due to my mood and anxiety. I’ve been worried about anything and everything, and my sex drive is non-existent, as well as it made me super dry. I do not recommend this to anyone who is just using this medication as a birth control, it’s just not worth it. I stopped taking this pill last night and am hoping to have improvements like others experience after stopping Yaz."

For Birth Control "I took this medicine for 3 years. The first 2 years were great. Less bleeding and basically no cramps. By the 3rd year, though, I developed severe anxiety, depression, and mild kidney and liver problems, as well as a racing, pounding pulse and difficulty breathing. Several other of my friends have had some of the same problems. I would recommend it if you have severe cramps like I did. It was great. Just be sure to monitor yourself."
