For Bacterial Infection "On day 3 of 200 mg a day for 7 days for pneumonia, and I feel like garbage. Definitely a lot of body aches and pains on the first night. Definitely following instructions regarding not lying down, I can't anyways because of my lungs. So far, I've been following the instructions regarding no food within 1 and 2 hours of taking my pill, but I've been puking this morning for the first time. Will try with a bit of crackers or toast to see if that helps. I'm annoyed because right now I'm not seeing much improvement for my lungs, but the pills make me feel worse. I will try to persevere, but I have a nagging feeling I have an ER visit in my near future."

For Bronchitis "I was prescribed this for bronchitis. And even though it seems to help some with my throat, the side effects are not worth it! I’m on day three and have terrible nausea, the worst I’ve felt. My body feels absolutely horrible every time I take it. The vomiting started this morning. Will not be continuing."

For Bacterial Infection "After the second day of taking doxycycline, I started feeling sick, however, I haven't been sick as of yet. I still have 3 more days of pills to take. My esophagus feels painful, and I get random urges of wanting to be sick throughout the day (nothing comes up, however), and it is painful to swallow food (feels as if it is getting stuck in my throat)."

For Bacterial Infection "10-15 minutes after taking this, I got a really bad stomach ache that caused a hot flash like I was gonna pass out. I got nauseous, then threw up for 5 minutes and dry heaved for another 5. For the rest of the day, I had a headache and felt sick to my stomach. I will never take this drug again!"

For Acne "This pill, combined with nightly use of Epiduo, completely transformed my skin! I was a bit skeptical to take it after reading reviews, but I realized what have I got to lose? Best decision ever! Within three months, my skin has completely cleared. At first, there were side effects when taking it, such as feeling a bit nauseous, but this can be fixed if you take it on a full stomach. Honestly, just try it. It might just work!"

For Lyme Disease "I took this medication in 2014. I ended up taking this daily for a month, and it worked well, but made me extremely nauseous after taking it. To compensate for the good bacteria that was being killed, I took some Greek-named probiotic that worked pretty well to fix my nausea."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I've been prescribed doxy (100 mgs) for a slight infection in my chest. I have been taking them for 5 days now. Two together as one dose each day. They are making me extremely sick. I take them with a pint of water after breakfast. Nauseated on and off all day. Diarrhea several times a day. Feeling very anxious and spaced out since starting them. I have palpitations since starting them, and on day 4, I started getting pins and needles in my hands and feet. All day. Thinking of stopping them. It's awful."

For Bronchitis "Ok, first off, whoever said to take with milk is an idiot. Taking too much calcium with this medicine as it bonds and makes the drug useless. Always take with food, the medicine will not make you nauseous. On day 3 of the 10-day course, I still feel like rubbish and cough regularly. But I can see improvement, this was my 2nd course of medicine, as the first failed. Despite what the person said about pneumonia, DON'T stop taking this, as it is usually one of the medicines you would take paired with something else to treat pneumonia. If you stop taking a medicine and the infection comes back, it will then be immune to the drug and all its brothers and sisters. 'Food for thought.'"

For Bacterial Infection "I have chronic sinus infections - can’t take penicillin due to building up a tolerance to it, and I can’t take amoxicillin due to it making me have seizures (thanks epilepsy). I was given doxycycline, and it’s day five, and I’m in so much pain. Yes, it did clear up my sinus infection super quickly, but the nausea and stomach cramps and no appetite is so hard. Honestly, I don’t know if I’m going to make it the six days I have left to finish it."

For Acne "I'm 16 years old, and I've been struggling with cystic acne since I was 12. Strangely, my pimples will mostly come out on my nose and sometimes on my cheeks. They always grew huge and fat. Believe me, I tried every topical treatment I can think of and even tried organic ones too, and none of them worked. I then decided to go see a derm and got the pills, and honestly, I was afraid of it not working and just making my pimples even bigger and worse, but it did not. It left my face almost completely acne-free. I have not felt nauseous, my acne didn't get worse, surprisingly!!! The pills have not given me any horrible side effects. I believe the reason is because it's best to TAKE THE PILL WITH FOOD. It will lower the chances of getting side effects."

For Acne "I have been on this medication for one month, and my cystic acne is completely gone as a result, but it didn't clear up completely until week 3. I give this a 10 for the results. However, there is a long list of bad side effects for this medication, and I suffered many of them. I had severe stomach pains. The pain wouldn't last long, but it came on quick and strong before stopping. I also had some digestive issues, and an upset, gurgling stomach non-stop for the first week or two. I also got bad headaches and had no appetite for two weeks. It also made me nauseated at first. After week two, the side effects stopped, but it was a rough start."

For Bacterial Infection "Took this for 10 days for urethritis, and this medication had too many side effects or really did not help me. I had flu-like symptoms, anxiety, depression, nausea, and feeling ill, back pain, chills. I will not be taking this medication again. Thankfully, I am done. Going back to the doctor next month, hoping to get something better."

For Acne "I've been on doxycycline for almost 4 weeks now, twice a day. My skin has really started to get better, but recently I started getting nauseous after taking. The nausea usually subsides in 20 minutes, so I just used to deal with it. Avoid taking it before a car ride, playing a game, sport, etc., because that triggers nausea. It's a miracle drug, and I hope it works that way for you. P.S. It's true, it gets worse before it gets better."

For Acne "My dermatologist prescribed me 3 months of doxy to treat acne on my back, in conjunction with a benzoyl peroxide wash every other day. I have been on it for 3 weeks at this point. I have been fine until recently, I have vaginal dryness, which is absolutely zero amounts of fun. And yesterday, even with eating and drinking water, it made me nauseous for probably 4 hours. My back seems to be clearing up, but I do have scars/discoloration that she said would take longer to fade. 3 months seems like a long time to deal with the lady side effects of this. I will try to remember to come back for an update."

Doxycycline for Acne "Tried a few other brands first, but had terrible nausea and couldn't hold them down - this is the only one I could tolerate, and along with a topical that my doctor prescribed me, my acne really cleared up."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Absolutely not. Never again. This antibiotic made me feel like I was flirting with death. I could not eat, I could barely drink, my head hurt so bad I was sobbing, I couldn't breathe without panting, I got a fever of 101. I felt delirious and overemotional. It barely helped the problem, kind of worked against me because my body was having to fight not only the infection but the medicine as well. I put this on my allergy list. Also, if you have idiopathic intracranial hypertension, it increases pressure in the head. Please talk to your doctor if you suspect you have this condition before taking tetracyclines. I did not know this beforehand."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed doxycycline to clear up a serious infection in my tonsils. I don't usually like to take pills, but just a couple of days into treatment, there was a considerable positive difference in the swelling and spots on them. It did make me very nauseated though."

For Skin or Soft Tissue Infection "Three days into taking doxycycline for a skin infection, and I have terrible heartburn and constantly feel nauseous. My doctor's directions said to try and take this on an empty stomach. DON’T...unless you enjoy vomiting. Even when I take it with food and drink plenty of fluids, the nausea and heartburn come roaring in a few hours later. Trying to clear up a cyst that recently developed on my scalp. I am super self-conscious about it, and to be honest, I’d rather have the cyst stay there forever than endure another day of this medication."

For Acne "I had acne for a very long time, almost 10 years. When I was younger, I didn't take it so seriously as now because I was getting tired of being insecure about it. First of all, I got prescribed another antibiotic which kinda worked, then I wanted to try the contraceptive pills which really didn't suit me, and I quit in 1 month. And now I finished one month of this one, and it is amazing. I never ever had such beautiful skin, I am thankful that I can be confident again. I am using Epiduo gel too. This medication is really great, and it might take time for it to work. And about the nausea - it can be really bad. So, make sure you eat well before you take it, otherwise, it is quite bad. Had a one-week break, and now I will start my second month."

For Chlamydia Infection "I was prescribed this with another antibiotic. The other was 1 pill on day one, followed by 7 days of doxycycline (I'm allergic to erythromycin, so I guess this is why I was prescribed this). Worked like a charm at clearing the infection. My only woe is that I had been sick with the flu at the time, and the pill gave me serious nausea the first few days. I also experienced throat irritation and some gastrointestinal things, but nothing major."

For Bronchitis "I only took this doxycycline for 2 days out of the 10-day course I was prescribed for bronchitis. I had to stop. It made me so sick to my stomach. I tried taking it with and without food and at different times of the day. I understand this is a common side effect of the medication, but it was just too strong to handle."

For Lyme Disease "Wanted to share my experience as I was really nervous to take doxycycline for Lyme disease due to the bad experiences mentioned all over the internet (and I have a fear of being sick). It was completely fine! I took 1 pill twice a day for 21 days, and always made sure to take them with food (avoid dairy as it affects absorption). It was completely fine! For a couple of days near the start, there was some *slight* nausea, then nothing at all for about two weeks, then some nausea again at the end. I wasn’t sick, and I didn’t have headaches or any of the other symptoms mentioned here. Most importantly, they cleared up my horrible Lyme rash and hopefully mean that the illness won’t affect me in the future. If you’ve been prescribed these for a similar reason, DEFINITELY take them, plenty of people have few or no side effects, and Lyme is something you do not want to mess with! Note: my doctor also prescribed me pantoprazole to take once a day to protect my stomach. I only did this for the first week."
