For Bacterial Infection "I am taking this medication for sinusitis and bronchitis. It works, but the side effects for me are horrible. Very nauseous, although I take it with food, and generalized body aches. I feel dizzy occasionally. I dread taking this med!"

For Bacterial Infection "I’m floored to see so many negative comments about doxycycline!! After two (miserable!) rounds of another antibiotic, I was prescribed this for severe sinus infection. Within two days, I was feeling better!! I was recently prescribed this drug (100 mg 2X per day for 14 days) for a staph infection on my ankle. I took the first couple of doses on an empty stomach and felt a little queasy, so I started taking it with a small snack, and the problem was solved! More importantly, the infection on my ankle has responded unbelievably to this drug! I will ALWAYS request this medication for my severe infections because the slight nausea is a small price to pay for its bacteria-killing abilities!!!"

For Bacterial Infection "This drug doxycycline hasn’t worked very well for my sinus infection. The side effects have been really hard, like intense nausea if you don’t take it very soon after eating. It also causes sensitivity to sunlight, including itchy, itchy arms and feeling temperature sensitivity in the shower. It’s the weirdest side effects I’ve ever had from a drug before."

For Urinary Tract Infection "My doctor first prescribed nitrofurantoin. He sent my urine out to be cultured, and I had two bacteria in my urine. Nitrofurantoin only treated one of the bacteria in my urine. My doctor then prescribed doxycycline. The doxycycline got rid of my UTI and was great. The instructions say to take it with food, which is what I did. I didn’t have any nausea or vomiting."

For Acne "For those who are dealing with symptoms, make sure to take a full meal before you eat. For me, it eliminated the nausea completely. If I take it too long after I take the medication or don't eat, I'll either vomit or can barely move with nausea."

For Bacterial Infection "Have been taking doxycycline for a week now, and the side effects are really killing me, such that I am feeling I have a serious infection. The reason I was prescribed it was for the risk of STIs - though the doctor didn't know the infection exactly. Just made assumptions when I explained how I was feeling after having unprotected sex. I feel headache, muscle pain, nausea, back pains, too much chest pain, joint pains, insomnia, and feeling generally sick. Now wondering should I continue taking or stop immediately?"

For Pelvic Inflammatory Disease "I've been taking doxycycline for almost two weeks after being diagnosed with pelvic inflammatory disease. It makes you pee excessively and constipates you. But you will start to see the effects take hold within days. I'm now experiencing severe gas. I was nauseous in the beginning, but that subsided after a week. Overall, it's a pain, but it works. Don't lay down for an hour after taking it."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I had an upper respiratory infection. It worked in clearing things up, but I experienced many side effects, which included nausea, dizziness, lightheadedness, pressure in the head, and vomiting every time I took my prescription. I took my prescriptions with food and water and followed directions by the book. It seems to have many benefits, but some of the side effects are not fun to say the least."

For Lyme Disease "I initially thought I had COVID-19 in early June when I developed a fever and strong chills. That resolved after a few days. I got diagnosed with Lyme disease a month later after I developed Bell's palsy and got tested for Lyme. I took doxycycline for 21 days. The facial palsy completely disappeared after 2 weeks. The only side effect I experienced from doxy was nausea. On the last day, my whole body was achy. After a few days, it went away. I still had some days of feeling achy. It’s getting better day by day. I’m feeling way better than before and almost back to normal. However, I think doxy gave me stomach problems, or maybe it’s the anxiety from everything that has happened. Who knows? Overall, I’d say it did work and I feel back to normal, whereas before, I felt like it would slowly be the end of my life."

For Lyme Disease "Took 10 for ten days as preventative after having a tick embedded in my shoulder. Very strong, but I followed this rule to avoid nausea: drank 8 oz. of water, took the pill, drank 4 oz. of water 1 hour before breakfast; did the same in the evening on an empty stomach and remained sitting for at least an hour afterwards. Do not lie down."

For Bacterial Infection "Not even sure that I needed an antibiotic, but took it on GP’s advice. This medication is awful. Horrendous stomach cramps, indigestion, heartburn, nausea, and diarrhoea to name but a few. Seven days after stopping, and I’m still suffering with some effects. Had to take time off work. Would not recommend anyone take this medication."

For Bacterial Infection "I took this medication in the past for pneumonia. Felt a little bit nauseous, but it was tolerable. Took it two times a day. One hour before a meal or two hours after a meal. Didn't feel sick on day 3. I have a bad sinus infection now. Doc thought since it worked well for me before, I should take it again. This time it has been different. I completed my dose yesterday, but I haven't seen any change. I still have most of the symptoms, plus woke up with a stiff neck. I noticed a few people here developed the stiff neck. Is that a side effect?"

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "After being on doxycycline for 4 days, my lungs were clearing up from the upper respiratory infection, but I also started getting severe nausea and vomiting. I followed the directions to the letter. I had to call my doctor and get switched to a different medicine."

For Bacterial Infection "My 'Dry Eye' problem (lack of oil in my eyelid oil glands, used to stop the eye's tears from drying out) has now turned into a raging bacterial eye infection and spread to my sinuses. Doctor started me on doxycycline 20 mg twice daily but no improvement after 3 days; he then upped the dosage to 50 mg twice daily several days ago, and the inflammation in my bloodshot eyes and sinuses, major congestion, starting to get slowly better. Not wanting to compromise potency, I eat no food, etc. for 2 hours before and after pills. I'm drinking 2-4 glasses of water with pills, and that has alleviated earlier nausea. I'm pleased so far, but only halfway to recovery."

For Acne "I am a 22-year-old female, and I have suffered from acne on my face, back, and chest since I was 15. My face is constantly broken out in huge, painful, red pimples and little bumps. I finally went to a dermatologist, and she put me on 100 mg of doxycycline twice a day. I've been taking it for 18 days, and my face is already clearing up quite a bit. And I usually can feel new pimples forming under the skin, I haven't felt one since. The directions say to take it before eating or 2 hours after eating, but that makes me nauseous. I usually eat and then wait 30 minutes or so. Even with some of the medicine absorbing into the food, I'm still getting results. I highly recommend this!"

For Pneumonia "I've had pneumonia several times. This time, my doctor prescribed doxycycline (2x a day, 100 mg for 10 days). First 2 doses, I felt okay, but by the 3rd dose, I had a severe coughing spell for 15-20 minutes straight. That was when I ate something before taking it. Then I tried it on an empty stomach. That time, I got so nauseous I almost wanted to stop taking it. Then I tried taking it again on an empty stomach, but about 15 minutes late, when the nausea began, I drank a little warm chicken broth, and that totally helped me tolerate the side effect. I also had some diarrhea, but not too bad. Totally agree with other reviews, doxycycline does work, and the key is to drink lots and lots of water."

Doxycycline for Acne "This medicine is great. I have been using it for 2 months, and my face is pretty much cleared. I don't have to worry about having extremely oily skin anymore either. I have experienced nausea and vomited once, but that can be avoided if you take it immediately after a meal."

Doxycycline for Acne "I am 25 years old, and I have always had acne. I am one of the people that have tried everything under the sun: Proactive, herbal, expensive top-of-the-line products, and acupuncture until I decided to speak to my wonderful dermatologist. He has prescribed me 100 Monodox twice a day, along with Epiduo, and it has worked wonders-no side effects. I've been on this routine for about two and a half months. My skin has NEVER been clear until now. It has been lately that the Monodox has caused me to be nauseous when I take it in the morning. Since I am not a big breakfast person, I found that I must take it with a GOOD meal, and the nausea has not come back."

For Upper Respiratory Tract Infection "I only have 2 pills left to take of my 7-day prescription, and no improvement in my chest infection. Still coughing so hard I'm pulling muscles in my chest, but now I also have to deal with the horrible side effects (crippling anxiety that keeps me awake all night, zapping/twitching throughout my body, depression, nausea, unable to eat, exhaustion, confusion, racing heartbeat). It has been a complete nightmare. I feel like I'm on death's doorstep. I guess I'll have to try something else tomorrow when I'm done with this horrible medicine since it did nothing except make things much, much worse."

For Pneumonia "Doxycycline 100 mg 2x a day for 10 days for pneumonia. Plus prednisone 2x a day, then once a day after 5 days. Plus albuterol nebulizer. I was not sure I was going to live. Have never been so sick. Took a little more than 7 days, but worked. Side effects: a little nausea, aches. Gladly will take the side effects to live."

For Urinary Tract Infection "I was prescribed 100 mg/2x a day for 7 days to treat pelvic pain/UTI. It worked, but a couple of days later, the UTI returned. The doctor prescribed a second week of 100 mg/2x a day for an additional week. During that week, I experienced fever, chills, severe headache, confusion, major nausea, and vomited twice. I went to Urgent Care tonight because it feels like a pill has been stuck burning my throat for 3 days. The Urgent Care doctor acknowledged swollen glands and raw, bright red throat and tested for mono and strep-both tests came back negative. So now I'm home, still in pain, without any answers, just a large medical bill. If you must take doxy, be aware of the possible side effects."

For Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed 100's, and for 14 days, I was to take two, with food, not lying down for 30 minutes afterward, and then continue once a day for the next 62 days. I find it provokes nausea, headaches, and indigestion, but is clearing up the skin irritation that was the reason she put me on a strong dose. I suspected bacteria because of other symptoms. My face is just about clear, and sinus situations I have had for a long time have lessened, leading to confirm what I have always suspected: that allergies are caused by a poor immune system. I had not heard until reading these testimonies that you were not to take vitamins, which I have continued to take and may be causing stomach irritation."

For Bacterial Infection "On day 3 of 200 mg a day for 7 days for pneumonia, and I feel like garbage. Definitely a lot of body aches and pains on the first night. Definitely following instructions regarding not lying down, I can't anyways because of my lungs. So far, I've been following the instructions regarding no food within 1 and 2 hours of taking my pill, but I've been puking this morning for the first time. Will try with a bit of crackers or toast to see if that helps. I'm annoyed because right now I'm not seeing much improvement for my lungs, but the pills make me feel worse. I will try to persevere, but I have a nagging feeling I have an ER visit in my near future."
