Bentyl (dicyclomine) "Every couple of months, I get an upset stomach due to stress. I get a crampy stomach, full stomach sensation, and irregular stools. Bentyl is gentle and just calms everything down. You don't really notice it working. The symptoms just fade off. I would say it is not helpful for nausea. In that case, I find that old liquid Pepto Bismol is the most effective."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I've struggled with undiagnosed IBS for years now. Just a few days ago at a doctor's appointment, I finally mustered up the courage to talk to my doctor about my digestive issues. Sure enough, he diagnosed me with IBS. He prescribed me Bentyl, and this medicine has been a huge lifesaver. It calms my stomach down to the point where I don't have to worry about locating a nearby bathroom in a public area. Bentyl has truly helped improve my life for the better."

"I actually call these my magic belly pills. I was given the bentyl for IBS-C. BEST THING to happen to my chronic stomach pains. I do get a sedated type of feel from it, but it's completely worth it and it's not as sedating as Benadryl is for me, so it's not bad at all. I only take it as needed, but sometimes it's needed around the clock for a few days in a row. It also works better than anything I've tried for menstrual cramps too. This has been a life saver for me. Even though it's prescribed for IBS with diarrhea, it relaxes my muscles so that I am able to go. Amazing drug and I would recommend it to anyone suffering with stomach pains."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I had an infection called Clostridium difficile in 2014. Ever since then, my IBS has been worse than ever. This drug is a lifesaver for me. It works within minutes to help calm down the stomach pains. It helps immensely with gas pains. I love this drug. I have been on it since 2016, I had to have a stool transplant, and I had the worst stomach pains ever after that for months. I take it as needed, but lately, I have had to take it more often due to an increase in IBS symptoms again. It does make me tired and causes dry mouth, but other than that, there are no side effects."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I have battled IBS for years, have seen several doctors with no luck. About a year ago, I had horrible stomach/abdominal pains and diarrhea and ended up in the ER. The doctor gave me Bentyl and Zofran. Within half an hour, the cramps disappeared, and I was able to relax. When I followed up with my primary doc, he put me on a normal daily dose of Bentyl, and it works great for me. I now only take it as needed, and the only complaint I have is that it definitely blurs my vision, but it keeps me functioning and works pretty quickly when needed."

"Dicyclomine did an awesome job at giving me regular bowel movements and gave me my appetite back almost instantly. Made me completely relaxed, almost a little too much so. Biggest drawback was that it gave me anxiety like no other when it wore off. Never had heart palpitations like that in my life. Woke up in a panic attack one night and called 911. I truly hope it works for you, just know if your anxiety starts to get worse, it might be this drug."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "Absolute Godsend. This medication helped eliminate the horrible cramps and pains my stomach was experiencing. This medicine works in curing the tummy aches associated with IBS. I was skeptical at first, but after a week of hell, my doctor prescribed it, and now about 95% of all pain and discomfort is gone. Please take this on an empty stomach so you get the full effects, you can eat 30-45 minutes later."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I took this pill tonight for the first time, almost 3 years in pain every morning. I had to wake up an hour earlier just for designated bathroom time, nearly falling sometimes in pain if I couldn't get to a bathroom. Tonight, I had a rolling cramp and took it. Within minutes, it just stopped. I ate a full meal and I haven't had to run to the bathroom urgently. Hopefully, I can handle the simpler side effects."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I always had a stomach like a goat, nothing bothered it. Then at 47, I had to go to the ER. They gave me Bentyl and it helped. I had another attack and screamed in pain, my husband reminded me of the Bentyl, and I took a drink of the liquid, and the pain stopped right then. This is a wonderful medication. I can function. I get a little loopy, but no pain. I was diagnosed with IBS-C."

"I have been taking dicyclomine for 4 years for painful cramping. Yes, it does work exceptionally well for that. Unfortunately, I am one of the few that gets the dizziness, and I lose balance from it. I am 51 years old and have fallen in parking lots, at home, trouble carrying my grandkids. That, however, does not stop me from taking it. The pain without it is just too much. It literally takes all the pain away."

"Dicyclomine was ordered by my doctor to treat my irritable bowel syndrome. I have found it to work very well for that purpose. I would get terrible stomach cramps and diarrhea after eating, sometimes it would start before I would even finish my food. If I take this drug about a half hour before I eat, I have close to no symptoms. The only thing is that I wish it was given to me sooner, it would have saved me quite a bit of suffering."

"I am 82 years old. Had to be hospitalized after taking this medication, dicyclomine, with 3 other new medicines. I had bad hallucinations. I saw people everywhere. Saw rats on the floor. Fell down several times. It now says on my charts to never take this again."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "Doctor prescribed this because I have had loose stools and cramping for over a month now. This is my second day, and this morning I had regular stool for the first time. However, I have been short of breath, waking up several times at night short of breath and what feels like a panic attack. I think today will be my last day taking it. If you are having anxiety, this drug will exacerbate your symptoms."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I had stomach problems from the age of 14 and up. And naturally, with how young I am and being so prone to ovarian cysts, my bloating up (looking 4 months pregnant at 110 pounds) and consistent stomach pains, they would always just assume it was a new cyst and give me pain medicine, even after being on TWO birth controls at once. When my doctor finally started to realize how frequently I was in so much pain that I'd just cry nonstop and the bloating would happen so often, he prescribed me Bentyl. I have to redo an endoscopy next month due to the last one not really working, but I can already tell a difference. I just don't like how goofy I can be and how overly excited I get. Other than that, I haven't had this kind of relief in years!"

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "Unfortunately, I have not had a good experience with Bentyl. I've had severely blurred vision after just 3 days of taking 10mg 3 times per day along with extreme bloating. I have been extremely uncomfortable and stopped taking the medicine. Hopefully, there is something else available to help my symptoms."

"I had multiple trips to the ER due to what appeared to be gallbladder attacks. At one point, I was there three times in one week. The pain was excruciating, even morphine barely touched it. Every test they ran showed nothing wrong with my gallbladder. The gastroenterologist they referred me to diagnosed Sphincter of Oddi Syndrome and put me on dicyclomine. The attacks stopped immediately with taking it four times a day. Now I only take one dose when I feel an attack starting. I've had no side effects at all up to this point."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I was admitted to the hospital every 3-4 months. The pain was unbearable, vomiting, diarrhea. It would last 4-10 days. I had several specialists, none could help. I finally found a great doctor, she had it figured out in 20 minutes after REALLY reading my history. Bentyl is a big part of saving me. I only take 10-20 mg when I feel the attack start. Yes, I go to sleep, but not to the hospital! Almost 2 years without a stay because of this medicine! I only take it when I feel the attack coming, but it's been a life saver!"

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "It was great for the first day or so, but then I was struck by horrible side effects. Cramps in my legs were so bad I could hardly walk, and I literally didn't get a wink of sleep at night due to the pain and restless legs. I also experienced blurred vision and very bad nausea. I would advise a low dose at first to see how it goes, but beware of side effects."

"For years, I didn't know what was wrong with me. I gave up drinking alcohol because even enjoying one glass of wine would cause my stomach to bloat, and I would be in so much pain that it would even be hard to get to sleep. I guessed maybe an ulcer or acid reflux, something along those lines. Finally, I was able to go see a specialist. I told him I would have severe pain from eating certain foods or drinking certain things. I also had a lot of trouble with constipation and having regular bowel motions. He decided to first give me DICYCLOMINE and see how things went. I also started to change my diet, in with the good, out with the bad. Been almost a year now ... DICYCLOMINE - my lifesaver!"

"This medication at first can have some strong, sedating side effects, but as long as you hang in there, they will diminish. This medication has really helped my life. And I know it will help many others, from the cramping, the constant back and forth to the bathroom, not being able to eat, or eating too much, it just makes you normal again. It took me about 2 weeks to start seeing changes again, but you will feel the effects right away. Just stay with it, people."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "First, I want to thank you all for your reviews. These reviews helped me to finally be brave enough to take Bentyl for IBS. I was sick for months: constipation, bloating, sudden diarrhea with syncope sometimes, lost 35 lbs. without trying, and highly sensitive to various foods. I logged everything I ate, drank, and every BM for 5 months. I was tested for everything under the sun... multiple blood labs good, multiple stool labs good, good upper & lower GIs, CT scan. I had nothing physically wrong with me to be found. My primary care recommended I try Bentyl. I avoided it due to some of the horror stories I initially read online about possible side effects. Months later, I finally tried it after reading some of your reviews on this website. For the first 2-3 days, I had some minor dizziness and felt tired. But after sticking with it for a few days, those side effects went away completely, and I feel absolutely normal. I only wish I'd had tried Bentyl sooner."

"I suffered from bouts of severe stomach pain, diarrhea, and vomiting. Had every test known to man with everything coming back with no problem. Severe bloating, lots of burping. This problem started when I was only two years old, I failed classes in school. I grew up knowing that if I started belching more than usual or had high stomach pain, I needed to prepare for two or three days of the worst stomach pain that you can imagine. Emergency rooms and doctors kept telling me food poisoning, gastritis, virus. The pain was so bad I thought I was going to die. Finally, at 44 years old, after three ER trips in two days, a simple, young doctor at the hospital gave me Bentyl... PAIN GONE!! IT'S A MIRACLE DRUG. I don't take it every day, but I take it when."

Bentyl (dicyclomine) "I've been on Bentyl for 3 1/2 years, and my IBS is so much better when I take my pill. Initially, I had severe dry mouth that lasted for about 3 months, but I no longer have that side effect. I take a pill one hour before I eat, and I can pretty much eat without worrying about a flare-up. If I eat a meal or snack with little or no fiber, my stomach gurgles and I get gas, but no diarrhea."

"I am now 35 and suffered from bowel problems since I was 13 that slowly intensified as I got older. I had tests after tests and was not allergic to anything, and they could not find out what was wrong. The cramping would become so intense I thought I would pass out and cause bleeding by the time it stopped. Since they couldn't find anything wrong or out of the ordinary, the Dr. proclaimed that I had Irritable Bowel Syndrome. Eventually I told him there has to be an option to stop the contractions in my intestine. He then prescribed this medicine to me. First at 10mg dosages. It helped but not entirely and ran out fast. Then he gave me 20mg. That did the trick! Only need to take as needed. Only side effect is being a little tired and rather be that than passed out."
