"I had no weird side effects. It does make me wake up thirsty, and a tad sleepy, but that’s it. I had to take it for about 2 weeks before it started working, but now that it does, it’s the best thing ever! I sleep every night. I’ve had chronic sleep issues since I was a child, so 40 years, and this is the first thing that has ever worked. It is amazing."

"After a few false starts (see earlier review), I have been taking this for a few weeks, and it has worked for me. I initially had side effects of morning headaches and daytime fatigue, so now I just take two-thirds of the 50 mg tablet, and they have largely gone away. I fall asleep, no problem, and 6 hours of sleep most nights. I live in the UK, and this has been prescribed by my NHS GP."

"Within the first week, I was able to fall asleep quickly. This relief has continued for a year. I have sleep apnea and had difficulty in falling asleep with all that equipment on my face. I intentionally skip nights when I am tired so that I can build up a supply for the 60 to 90 days my husband and I spend in France. Quviviq is not available in Europe. When I skip my dose, most of the time, I am still able to fall asleep, although sometimes it does take longer, but I am more likely to wake up two times, rather than once. Quviviq does not work when family issues or stress over traveling is overwhelming but this happens less than 5% of the time. My previous sleep patterns involved being unable to fall asleep before 1:30 to 2:00 am or later. With Quviviq, I have been able to go to sleep earlier. I sleep 8 to 9 hours, even after a daytime nap unless I set an alarm. I have no new daytime fatigue or sleepiness. I have experienced no other side effects. I am 79 and take 50mg."

"At first, I thought this was great. It did take at least two hours before I fell asleep. But dreams were turning into vivid nightmares. After three weeks on it, I was groggy and totally dysfunctional the next day. I would rather not sleep than feel how I do on them."

"So I took this medication at 50 mg with Klonopin 1 mg as my Dr. prescribed. The pharmacist had questions the next day about why my Dr. would prescribe such a combination. When I told them I went through sleep paralysis that night, they refused to refill my Klonopin and get a hold of my Dr. I thought an intruder entered my home and literally went upstairs, then came back down and was literally a cm from my face staring at me. It seemed so real I went upstairs and checked on my grandmother to make sure it wasn't real. Overall a horrible, scary experience with an intruder, and then when I fell back asleep, I turned the opposite way where I was staring at closed blinds, and when I woke back up, the middle blinds randomly were open and the intruder was staring through them. Scary-ass experience, but we'll see how it goes tonight without the Klonopin. So far, I'm going to give this a 3 star, but if I keep seeing things, I'm going to stop taking it and go to Lunesta or Ambien CR, which have none of these side effects for me."

"I wish I would have read these reviews first and dealt with the Ambien that only half worked. First couple of uses of 50 mg took about two hours to fall asleep. Intermittent deep sleep with disturbing dreams. Waking at times to see things that weren't there. Groggy with headaches the next day. Tonight I had three terrifying vivid nightmares. Fall asleep, wake up terrified after a half hour of deep sleep, then the same cycle again. Then nightmares within nightmares. I thought my husband was trying to attack me, and when he shook me to wake me up because I was screaming but paralyzed, it took me nearly 10 minutes to figure out what was real and what was a dream. This was not listed as a side effect, and if it was, it was lighthearted and vague. Needless to say, I flushed the pills and am typing this review. I'd rather be tired tomorrow, which I will anyway, than be too afraid to sleep."

"Night 1. I took the whole sleeping pill before going to bed. Every time I approached dream sleep, I would wake up... so I was constantly being awakened just at the moment when I was trying to get rest. Every nerve in my brain felt like it was on fire. I got up the next day feeling drugged -- and I mean drugged. I didn't start to feel semi-normal until late afternoon. Night 2 (the following week). I took half a pill before bed to see if the dosage was the problem. Same thing: I was awakened every time I approached REM sleep; my brain felt on fire again; got up with a terrible headache. A friend of mine had returned from South Africa and was jet-lagged; he said he needed a good night's sleep. I said I had some Quviviq... he was welcome to try one, but I informed him that I had had negative reactions from it, but it might work perfectly for him since body chemistries are different. He had exactly the same experience as I did."

"I have Graves' disease that causes severe insomnia. I've taken just about every prescription sleeping medication available, and at times more than one. Quviviq is the only one I've found that not only doesn't make me feel hungover or groggy the next day, but makes me feel well-rested and almost energized. I've been averaging 3-4 hours of sleep for the last 5+ years until my doctor had me try Quviviq. Now I average 6-8 hours every night. I'm so thankful for this drug."

"I’ve been an insomniac for 13 years and have tried various medications, but with not much success. I came across Quviviq and decided to give it a try, and I am so glad I did. It’s still early days, but for the first time ever, I am sleeping through the night, yippee!! I did get some headaches and vivid dreams at first, but they seem to be easing off. Can I just say my insomnia is very severe, so I am over the moon I have found something that is working for me? So far, so good."

"Tried it for two nights. About an hour after taking it, I had severe respiratory issues and had to force myself to take breaths. It was a scary feeling and made sleep impossible. I had to stop taking it."

"Does not work at all. The first night it seemed like it worked, even though I had a drink with it, just one, not more. Every other night it has hardly worked at all, and I’m about 6 days into it. I’m lucky to get 3 hours on it. I wake up and cannot fall back asleep. I’m so disappointed."

"I have a long history of insomnia and trials of different drugs in nearly every class that haven’t worked. Quviviq is the only drug in its class that works for me, and I consistently get an additional 4-5 hours of sleep per night on this medication. No nasty side effects, no complaints, just much improved sleep! I would call this a moderate to heavy sleeper."

"Unlike a lot of others on this review site, I had previously not been taking any sleep medication. I work shift work, and the shift from nights back to days was always tough, and I would typically go in on my first day back with 90 minutes of sleep. This drug is incredible. I am no longer a zombie at work the first 2 or 3 days. It usually takes 2 nights to work for me; then it works great, so plan for that (I wouldn’t use it as a one-off treatment). I do get slightly groggy on days I go a full 50 mg dose."

"I love this medication! I have been using it for about 8 months now. It has only gotten better as it has built up. It took a couple of weeks for me before I saw positive results. Don't give up if it feels like it isn't strong enough at first. I had really bad anxiety and panic attacks out of nowhere last summer along with insomnia for the first time. I was scared to try this but I am so glad I gave it a chance. I have always been someone with vivid dreams so that has continued but not necessarily scary. What I love is that it’s a slow drift off to sleep. I feel like it’s a deep sleep but I have kids, and if needed I can still wake up easily. If I get up to use the bathroom, I fall right back to sleep instead of overthinking and tossing and turning. The best part is my husband goes to bed later than me, and it doesn't wake me up anymore! I go to sleep around 11 pm and wake up so rested around 7 am. No feelings of grogginess. My doctor said it can be used long term safely."

"Worst drug ever! I have taken Ambien for 6 years. I thought it was working well. Talked to doctors, and they sold me on this miracle drug that would keep me asleep! Nope. Kept me awake! Nightmares. Only took it for 3 nights. Will not take it again! If I could give negative stars, I would!!"

"I've read a lot of bad reviews here. Fortunately, I read them AFTER trying Quviviq. I was taking Klonopin before. It worked great and knocked me out for 8 hours, but is addictive and extremely difficult to get off of. My doctor gave me free samples of Quviviq, Dayvigo, and Belsomra. All of them work well for me but are extremely expensive. My doctor found a pharmacy that sells Quviviq for $90/month. I also found that Merck has a program to get Belsomra for free. I'm alternating these two medications. Dayvigo worked best but is too expensive."

"I have been suffering from chronic severe insomnia for about 5 years, sleeping for no more than 2 hours or less at night, every night. Completely awake all day, feeling terrible and unable to nap. My life has been a living hell. Honestly, Quviviq has been the magic bullet. I have been taking 50 mg for about 3 months. It took a couple of weeks to feel the full benefit, but gradually I was able to sleep again for 5-7 hours a night, every night. Fantastic result. Yes, lots of bizarre dreams, not nightmares, but to be honest I enjoy remembering my dreams, even if they are a bit weird. Otherwise, all good. Fantastic new drug!!"

"Quviviq did not work for me at all. I tried it for 30 days, hoping it would eventually work, but it never did. I started with 25 mg and then tried 50 mg. It would take 3-4 hours to fall asleep, and then I did not sleep soundly. My legs have been hurting so badly, and I could not figure out why until I read some of these reviews. I stopped taking this drug. I’d rather not be able to sleep than deal with this."

"Not sure what is up with the negative reviews. Everyone is different and metabolizes differently. This is my second month on it and I am on 50 mg. The only side effects I had were a headache for about a week or two, and then nothing else. However, it does take me at least two hours to fall asleep after taking the medication, and that is the only downside for me. I do not have any other side effects, other than taking a while to fall asleep. I was on Ambien for a few years and the side effects from that are way worse than what they are with this medication. With Ambien, I used to go downstairs, make food, text on my phone, and do online shopping without remembering any of it. This medication takes at least 3 to 4 weeks to fully start working. I don't have any complaints about this medication other than not being able to fall asleep for a couple of hours. I do not wake up groggy or tired, and once I'm fully awake, I am fully functional. Like I said, everyone is different."

"MD prescribed Quviviq to replace Ambien. Paid nearly $300.00 for it, and the med was worthless. I tried it for 4 nights and slept none. I think that I should be reimbursed for paying that much for a non-effective med. Have insomnia? Don't waste your money on this drug."

"Helps me fall asleep, but I don't stay asleep. 50 mg. I would stay up for days if I didn't drug myself to sleep. I have been afraid to try Ambien or Lunesta, but I did try Belsomra, which didn't seem to work. What does work is Xanax, but I have been taking it for sleep for years and am afraid of the neurological issues. My neurologist suggested Quviviq - my insurance does not cover it, but I found a coupon and got my first month free, which was great. Depending on whether I take it with food, it can take 30-90 minutes to work, but I love the way I drift off to sleep; it feels great, really zen-like. Unfortunately, it only lasts about 2-3 hours, and although I am not fully alert, I cannot fall back to sleep without taking something else. Taking additional meds at 2 or 3 AM means a horrible groggy hangover or inability to function the next day and defeats the purpose. I don't have any worse nightmares than I do on Xanax."

"I've tried other sleep medication and nothing worked. My doctor then prescribed Quviviq and it has changed my life. Finally, I am getting a good night's sleep every night with no side effects. Prior to Quviviq, I was drinking a lot of alcohol in order to fall asleep and then when I would wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom and not be able to fall back asleep. With Quviviq, I have completely stopped drinking alcohol, and when I wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom, I fall back asleep quickly. I have seen several reviews where people said they took it for 1 or 2 nights and either had a bad experience or it didn't work at all. I had the same experience at first, but it took 5-6 days for it to begin working like it should. So, if you're a new user, give it some time to begin working properly. Also, if your insurance won't cover this medication like mine, Quviviq offers a free copay card so you only have to pay $25 per bottle. I prefer the 50mg over the 25mg."

"I have been using Quviviq for a month now. Not every night. About three days a week. I have found it to be very helpful for me. It's not as heavy and intense as Ambien. I don't have bad side effects or feel sluggish the next day. It has definitely helped me sleep. I'm glad to be using this instead of something like Ambien, which is so close to a Benzo. Glad I found it."

"I have taken this drug for 2 1/2 weeks to help me get to sleep. It still takes me an hour or more to get to sleep. The day after, I have a headache and feel sleepy, taking several naps. I don’t like feeling dopey all day. I take 50 mg."

"I’m beyond exhausted. I had 3 nights of absolutely no sleep. And if I snooze for 30-45 minutes, then I can’t call it sleeping. It’s a shallow sleep, with horrible nightmares and real dreams. Then up again for several hours. The next morning and whole day awfully tired and some headache. I’m not taking this drug ever again."
