Copper topical for Birth Control "After 4 years of painful periods, my ParaGard embedded and perforated my uterus. I went to my doctor after experiencing bleeding for over a week. I was shocked to learn I was pregnant and had to have a D&C to save my life. The ParaGard caused internal scarring and possible infertility. This was the worst experience of my life, and I warn everyone to avoid this birth control method. It is ineffective and can turn life-threatening. I share my personal experience to inform others of the risks, which were not fully shared with me."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I had two children before getting the IUD, so my insertion was pretty much painless. I did experience some bleeding afterwards, and I felt a little strange a few weeks later, but I eventually felt normal again. I'll continue to update my review on this product."

Copper topical for Birth Control "The copper IUD is the worst birth control I've ever been on. The doctor who placed it raved about it and said it was awesome. Lucky for me, I haven't had anything horrible happen to my uterus, unlike so many other women and people with uteruses. But it's been in less than a year, and my period is so incredibly terrible that having the IUD has caused me to develop severe anemia and the need for blood transfusions. Absolutely terrible, should be illegal after everything it's done to too many people."

Copper topical for Birth Control "Look up copper toxicity. On ParaGard I gained weight, had tons of bleeding and non-stop periods. Along with all the symptoms of copper toxicity. Do not get this IUD! Right after removing it, I dropped 5 pounds. I’m sure I’m going to lose more too."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I read a lot of reviews before getting ParaGard, and they almost made me not get it because some sound so awful. But I have honestly had a great experience, and so I wanted to share that. When I first got it in, I was not on my period, so the insertion process was painful. I had cramps and heavy bleeding for about 3 days after, and then the cramps went away and the bleeding lightened. The bleeding was over with in about 5 days after insertion. I honestly didn't have any spotting between then and my first period post-insertion. My first period after the bleeding was heavier than before I had it, but nothing super excessive, and the heavy bleeding was only for 2-3 days. My period ended in 6 days. Next period was the same. No spotting in between."

For Birth Control "I got my Copper T about 7 months ago, and I love it. I am 22- haven't had kids- so the insertion was pretty horrible. Really, really painful. I had horrific cramping and bleeding that whole day, an unreal amount of bleeding that night (seriously), but then the next day just a tiny bit of cramping and bleeding. My periods are slightly heavier than they were before, my cramping is normal, and my period lasts about 5 days. The only real difference in my periods is that they are much more spread out- I've been getting them every 5 to 7 weeks (this may have to do with me and my past history of birth control though). The insertion was bad but so worth it. I don't even know it's there. I recommend!"

Copper topical for Birth Control "Well, I chose ParaGard after the birth of my second daughter because I wanted something non-hormonal. The insertion was quite painful, and I cramped for a few days afterward, but I was able to manage. Of course, I was prepared for the heavier bleeding and also the cramps. I could not get through the first day without having to take ibuprofen, but that was fine. However, about a year and a half ago, my cramps grew stronger-they hurt so much even my legs shook. And then, out of nowhere, I would start to cramp after my period was over. Again, needed meds. Fast forward to 2 weeks ago, non-stop cramps. During my period and then after, the cramps would not disappear, and I decided I was done. I got it removed, and though the removal hurt and I was lightheaded, it's only been a day, but the cramps are now gone! It works as birth control, but I could not deal with the pain! This is coming from someone with a high pain tolerance, it was unbearable!"

Copper topical for Birth Control "I got my IUD inserted in March of 2017, when I was 19. I had never been pregnant. Insertion was the most painful experience of my life. I took ibuprofen and Valium. I could barely walk afterward, and my boyfriend had to drive. I had severe cramping and pain. I bled like crazy, and my periods have lasted 2+ weeks since then. I get cramping 3/4 weeks per month with the IUD and pain on the left side. I cramp at the beginning and end of my period, and the ones at the end are worse. I am left stuck in bed with a heating pad, writhing and sweating. I get pain from my IUD before, during, and after sex as well. I have gotten terrible cystic acne on my cheeks, which I never had before, and extreme PMS. I have had joint pain, UTIs, and yeast infections. I will be getting it removed ASAP. My strings disappeared within 2 months of insertion, so I may need surgery to remove it. I'd rather find out I'm pregnant than deal with another month of this BS."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I received this after having my son on 12/15/17. I started having mood swings, and my weight gain was horrible (I’ve always been small). Then I started having really bad headaches, and my hair was falling out in globs. Eighteen months after having my son and going through all these side effects, I started bleeding badly. My husband took me to the ER, and they gave me a pregnancy test (it’s required). It came back positive. They sent me down for an ultrasound to get some more info on if the ParaGard was still there or not. Come to find out it was still there, and I was five weeks pregnant. They took it out and told me there was a high risk of a miscarriage. We went back two weeks later to see if they could see anything or if I just had an empty sac. They found a yolk sac. I am now luckily 27 weeks pregnant with a healthy baby boy (our miracle IUD baby). I would not recommend ParaGard for anyone as a contraceptive, as it didn't work. I would mark zero if I could. I have stressed my baby this whole pregnancy due to some “supposed to be 99% effective.”"

Copper topical for Birth Control "Got IUD inserted on 01/22/20. In June 2018, I had been pregnant and just had a miscarriage. After that, I got on the pills, Norethindrone to be exact, suffer from migraines, so this pill was recommended as it is less hormonal - IT WAS A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Gained over 40 lbs, relationship was bad due to mood swings and crying. I heard about the IUD, never knew ParaGard existed. I did research and also spoke to a few friends that have it, they got mixed reviews and reading here kind of scared me still went for it. Day of appointment, took 800 mg Ibuprofen. I was on my last day of menstrual cycle so cervix was open. A bit uncomfortable felt like a contraction for a second while she measured me, then after, didn't feel anything. Overall, I had small cramps the same day and spotted until Friday. Friday I stopped my pills and I guess because of that, I started heavy bleeding Saturday night which went on until Monday morning. I'm now spotting again on and off. No cramps as of yet. Tomorrow will make 1 week since I had it placed. I just been suffering from the changes of stopping pills. I will update in 2 months."

Copper topical for Birth Control "So it's been 6 days since I had ParaGard inserted, and let me tell you, I'm doing a helluva lot better than day 1. The insertion was a pain I'd never felt before and had me thinking it's been placed incorrectly. I had chosen to get the insertion 4 hours before I was due in for work, but inevitably ended up calling out. I laid on that table for over an hour trying to get the room to stop spinning so I could make the drive back home. Once I could finally stand, I went straight home and curled up with a heating pad, ibuprofen, and a glass of wine. I spotted the next day, which led to me bleeding heavily for two days. The bleeding has now pretty much stopped. I was able to have sex with my partner with no worries or pain. So far, so good (:"

Copper topical for Birth Control "I had a ParaGard IUD inserted shortly after my second child was born. I always felt terrible when I was on the pill, and I was looking forward to trying a non-hormonal form of birth control. Insertion was painless and quick, and I only had mild cramping afterward. Every period I had while using ParaGard was a nightmare. Each lasted 7-10 days, and 3-4 of those days, the bleeding was so heavy I was going through a pad every 1-2 hours. I was never one to have bad cramps, but cramping was severe and painful on ParaGard. My doctor assured me this was normal and would not last, but it could take up to a year for normal periods to return. Eleven months after the IUD was inserted, I became pregnant. It was a tubal pregnancy that had to be terminated with two shots of methotrexate. After the removal of ParaGard, my periods returned to normal. tl;dr: ParaGard caused heavy, painful periods and a pregnancy! I do not recommend!"

Copper topical for Birth Control "UPDATE: I have now had it for 6 weeks. I had my first period, and it was twice as long as it usually is. I usually have 3 days of bleeding, and this time it was 6. I did not bleed any more than I usually do, and I did not have any more cramping than usual. Overall, this has been perfect for me because I cannot tolerate hormones. I have no other side effects. I've actually lost weight, but consciously. The few extra days of bleeding are annoying, but definitely worth it."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I'm 24 years old and have had the ParaGard IUD for about 2 years now. It's a great birth control, so I recommend it for anyone. There are a few things to be aware of. Painful cramps and heavier bleeding are to be expected. I get my period extremely regular, so I know exactly when and what the change is. No birth control method is perfect, but I feel the ParaGard IUD is an amazing product. The main and most important reason why I have the ParaGard IUD is because of my severe migraines. I appreciate the fact that my IUD does not interrupt or worsen my migraines (according to my GYN, my neurologist, and myself)."

Copper topical for Birth Control "ParaGard has caused me horrific, painful periods. I have also been bleeding for almost a year in between my periods. It was very painful to have inserted. I am having it removed Friday after one year of no fun! It works as birth control because you can never have sex."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I’ve had the copper IUD for 10 months now and have finally decided to have it removed. I wanted to love it, and it is convenient birth control, but my periods have been so intense that it’s just not worth it. Heavier bleeding is to be expected for the first 6 months or so, but I literally can barely leave the house during the first days of my period. ParaGard changes the uterine lining, and you can very much tell at period time! At 40, I never had issues with leaking for my entire menstruating life, but I feel like a teenager, having had to tie things around my waist while out and about, bleeding through at night, etc. I also have skin reactions when I eat high copper foods, as well as puffiness under my eyes. My periods have also become more unpredictable, and part of the reason it’s such good birth control is because I have my period for half of the month! (10-12 day periods with a short 23-day cycle)."

Copper topical for Birth Control "Don’t do it. I’m 20 years old and was on the pill for 5 years. I got the ParaGard IUD because I’m not ready for any babies, and I liked the idea of hormone-free (I have bipolar disorder, and hormones seemed to make my mood episodes worse), but also not having to take a pill sounded great. I got it in January 2019. The insertion process hurt, and then not only were my periods hella irregular (which I get is normal for the first few months), but when I say I bled, sis. I was bleeding out every month. I mean I would bleed through a super plus tampon, my panty liner, and my underwear into my pants in 45 minutes. Yeah. Forty-five! The cramping? I wanted to die. Like throw myself into a volcano and let the lava burn away the pain. I guess the pros are I didn’t get pregnant (yay), but I got it removed today, and I'm now trying the Mirena (hormonal IUD, insertion for this one was way less painful). So ladies, if I were you, personally I would stay far away from this one."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I had the ParaGard put in six weeks after my son was born. Biggest mistake of my life. The cramps were unbearable. I bled for six months straight. One week a month I would bleed extremely heavy. For the rest of the month, it would be light bleeding. I could never leave the bathroom without a normal-size pad during the light days. I finally had it removed a year after it was put in because of insurance reasons. Well, they had to remove it surgically because it was implanted in my uterine wall. It has been five years since I had it removed. I've had five surgeries since to remove one cancer cell and masses. Please fully research things before you put them in your body."

Copper topical for Birth Control "So far, I have had the ParaGard for about 4 months, and I can't complain. It's good for 10 years, and after recently giving birth to my second child, I love the long-term option. It's been effective so far. But there are some downsides, heavy bleeding definitely is a factor in deciding if you want it. When I say heavy, I mean changing a tampon almost 6-8 times a day. But in my opinion, it's worth it. Also, the cramps are not great. They feel like mild contractions, again, to me, it's worth not getting pregnant again. Insertion was not bad compared to the reviews that I read before getting it. I believe having kids factors into the amount of pain there is. Basically, it was a minor pinch, and that was it! That day, I forgot I had even gotten it."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I got ParaGard in February of 2015. It is now October of 2015, and the side effects have yet to subside or lessen at all. That is over 8 months, when the side effects are supposed to lessen after 6. Honestly, this would be a great birth control, but it made my period much heavier and longer. I used to only get mine for 3-4 days, and now it's almost 7 days with very heavy bleeding the first few days. My cramps are much worse, and the worst part is I get my period almost every 2-3 weeks. It sucks. I took this to avoid hormones, but PMSing so much is essentially the same problem. Anyways, I plan to get it removed within the next couple of weeks. I cannot say for sure if it was effective. I had high hopes for this, but it just wasn't for me."

Copper topical for Birth Control "After discussing my options with my Dr., I had ParaGard inserted about 2 months after my third child was born. I had some discomfort and cramping, but nothing more than a regular menstrual cycle. Fast forward to my first menstrual cycles, and I bled for 2 weeks straight. My second cycles after my bleeding lasted for 3 weeks and every cycle from then on. I called my Dr. and asked what was going on, why was this lasting so long, and they said during the first couple of months, bleeding can increase some, but it will go away. After a year of 3 weeks of bleeding and only 1 week not bleeding routine, I called my Dr. again, and the nurse practitioner told me I was fine, it was normal. Two months later, I passed out at my son's baseball game and had to have a blood transfusion because I had lost so much blood from my menstrual cycle. I had to have the IUD surgically removed because it was embedded in my uterine wall, probably from the beginning, and my uterus was constantly trying to flush it out."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I only gave the ParaGard two stars because I did not get pregnant while I had it. However, the experience from the insertion to removal was a pure nightmare. Insertion was extremely painful (I feel like I was not fairly warned for the amount of pain I would experience). For the days following, I experienced horrible cramps and heavy bleeding. The first few months I was always crampy, and my period lasted for 9 days. The first few days of each period were a nightmare. I would soak through a super tampon in under an hour. At my follow-up appointment, my gyno assured me my body would adjust and it was in place. I waited for my body to adjust for two years. These two years were filled with cramps that left me on the couch for days, no over-the-counter pain medicine offered any relief. I had constant pressure on my uterus as well. Each period, I passed blood clots the size of golf balls. I finally had the IUD removed and am not lying when I say I felt instant relief."

Copper topical for Birth Control "I had ParaGard inserted in October of 2018. After insertion, my bleeding jumped in length from 6 days to 10 days, my cycle length became erratic, ranging from 30-40 days, the cramping was constant throughout my cycle, fluctuating between an annoyance and excruciating pain, and at some point, I noticed my hair thinning and falling out (which, according to the pamphlet, isn’t a symptom). I finally opted to have it removed in October 2019 after sex triggered a particularly bad episode of cramping, where I was paralyzed in pain on the floor for 45 minutes. I’m happy to report I am now IUD-free and can inhale as deeply as I want without experiencing stabbing pains in my uterus! Be prepared for the worst if you try this form of BC:("

Copper topical for Birth Control "Quick and painless procedure. I've had 2 kids and am breastfeeding my 4-month-old. No complications so far. It did start my period, which lasted 4 days with mild to moderate, pretty normal bleeding. The cramping I experienced the day of the implant procedure was mild and made better by Tylenol. I love my ParaGard!"
