For Cough "For cough spasms, this is as close to a miracle drug as you can find. You can get a slight buzz and sometimes insomnia while taking it, but it beats an uncontrollable dry hacking cough all night. So at the very least, it offers a relaxing night in bed, even though you may not get into a deep sleep. Sometimes I take an Ambien so I can sleep."

For Cough "I have a problem with recurring bronchitis because of asthma. When this happens, I cough a lot. The Tussionex is a lifesaver for me. It stops the cough that nothing else has ever stopped. It makes me sleepy, but the cough is paralyzing, so it's well worth it. The price makes me very thankful for my health insurance."

For Cough "I have extremely bad coughing spells at night. So my doctor prescribed codeine cough syrup, which surprisingly did not help because it is a pretty strong cough medicine. So instead, he prescribed Tussionex for me. The medicine worked great! The only thing I don't like is it made me sleep all day long, and the next day I could still feel it in my system, but I know I could have probably slept for 2 days straight off of the small dose he prescribed. He told me to do 'Take 1 teaspoonful 2 times a day.' I only did one, and it made me feel very tired. But it does a great job with suppressing the cough."

For Cold Symptoms "CAREFUL! Warning that you can become drowsy the next day after using this product. Falling asleep at work, or while driving, because the narcotic is too much. If you're able to be passive with just a glass of wine, think seriously before taking the full teaspoon. Talk to your doctor if you feel unusually tired because of the Tussionex."

For Cough "I went to the doctor a week ago, and I was told that I had an upper respiratory infection (3rd one this year), so she gave me the usual antibiotic, Phenergan with codeine cough medicine, and an antihistamine/decongestion medicine. After a week of taking this, still not feeling better. So I went back, and she gave me a different antibiotic and the Tussionex cough medicine. The cough medicine has allowed me to sleep most of the night, but when I take it, I am completely knocked out and loopy. Still cough periodically, but nothing like I was without it. Even with insurance, this medicine was $50 for 4 ounces, but it's worth it! I've taken it before, and it really helps. Just waiting for the other medicines to do their jobs!"

For Cough "I get severe bronchitis at least once a year with vomiting and sleepless nights. I've tried Robitussin with codeine, but it didn't help at all. Two years ago, my doctor finally prescribed Tussionex, and it works so well. I have bronchitis now and came back from a miserable trip without this medicine. I've taken it tonight and already feel so much better. I would highly recommend this to anyone who needs a cough medicine at night to help them sleep."

For Cold Symptoms "Was given this medicine for upper respiratory tract infection. It helps the cough but makes you feel really out of it. With this prescription, I have had headaches. I'm on the 12-hour/1 tsp dosage. I would recommend this drug before you go to bed."

For Cough "Seven (7) years ago, my system betrayed me, and I became allergic to everything you can be tested for except ducks and fungus - everything. I went through my PCP to every allergy and immunology specialist in a forty-mile radius and then moved down to the super-specialists in the Boston medical community. For two years - nothing alleviated the primary symptom - coughing - violent, explosive coughing every forty-five minutes to an hour. This is where you will begin to disbelieve me probably, but the weekend of Good Friday, 2004, my ENT prescribed Tussionex-P, and for the first time, I was able to sleep, breathe, and behave normally. I do cease use every twenty-eight days, withdrawal is a little like 'coffee jags,' but you must use care with this medicine."

For Cough "Just started taking this medicine. Had the flu, and at the end of the 5-day flu, started a head cold. Couldn't sleep for a few nights due to cough. Only woke up 3 times tonight (once to pee and twice due to coughing). Just took my second dose and will go back to sleep. Was prescribed codeine, with no help at all. Was told this is called liquid gold - they weren't kidding. Very grateful my pharmacist mentioned this to me, then I told my doctor."

For Cough "For some period of time, I had a bad cough and was diagnosed with chronic bronchitis and prescribed Tussionex - unfortunately, there was a very large tumor discovered in my right lung. I did undergo a painful surgery only to find out the condition was inoperable - I went through chemo and radiation to no avail. I, however, continued to take Tussionex to cut down on coughing, which was painful. Now one cannot get the liquid which worked for me - I only had to take it once a day, usually in the morning. I recommend it highly."

For Cough "I have suffered from chronic lung infections and bronchitis for a number of years. I have tried multiple medications in the past and nothing has worked. My doctor prescribed Tussionex Pennkinetic, and it is fantastic. I would rate this medication a 12 out of 10 if I could. Be sure to hydrate well while taking this medication. The drowsiness that I experience helps me sleep, and I am cough-free all night long. The 12-hour window of effectiveness makes this the best treatment for a chronic cough."

"I have taken this medicine for three years. I have chronic bronchitis, COPD, and asthma. I was coughing all the time, especially at night, and couldn't sleep. I tried sleeping pills and a variety of cough medicines, none of which worked. When given this, my cough immediately went away and stayed away for up to twelve hours, often longer."

For Cough "I have had a persistent cough now for two weeks that wakes me up 8 times at night. This is the second time that I have had this cough medicine prescribed to me. It is by far the best cough medicine that I have ever taken."

For Cough "I had incessant coughing due to post-nasal drip, which none of the OTC meds made a dent in. Saw my ENT doc who did endoscopy and, not surprisingly, found heavy sinus and throat mucus. He prescribed Tussionex-P and Prednisone. The Tussionex knocked the cough right out, enabling me to sleep and recover my voice. It is annoying that it's so hard to find; the first four pharmacies I went to didn't carry it. For me, it's a wonder drug. It succeeded where all the others failed, and I haven't had any side effects. If I could, I would give it a rating of 11."

For Cold Symptoms "The medicine is very good at relieving the symptoms of a cold. Greatly reduced cough and dried me up as I have never seen. It may be too dry, so drink a lot of fluids. I have to say, though, don't drive a car or operate machinery. It makes it very hard to think clearly. Definitely made for use where you stay home and depend on someone else to do the thinking."

For Cough "This medicine worked very well for me. I had a bad cough that was keeping me up night after night. This allowed me to sleep and totally stopped the cough. I couldn't take it during the day without being groggy, however, I would caution against this, although the recommended dose said every 12 hours."

For Cough "Obstetrician prescribed this to me due to a chest infection/head cold that resulted in no sleep for me. It totally knocked me out - I slept better than I had during my entire pregnancy. Great part is I still have plenty of fetal movement."

For Cough "This medication was great to reduce coughing and to sleep well at night after a few sleepless nights before the med. But I developed very bad constipation after a few nights (I took it only once a day, before bedtime), which was so bad that I would never use this medication again."

For Cough "This stuff is great. I have had a chronic cough for over a year following an esophagectomy. This is the first medication that actually works for more than a couple of hours. I can actually make it through the night without having a coughing episode. As a side benefit, it tastes pretty good."

For Cold Symptoms "I was prescribed this medicine after going to urgent care for what I thought was a basic head cold. I was told I had the flu. I did not think my symptoms were consistent with what I considered the flu, but I had not been sick in a long time and cannot remember when I last had the flu. The medicine definitely dried me up, per se, but I started getting really jittery and anxious, and when trying to go to sleep, could not due to the itching. I know I am sensitive to medications and have never had this medicine before. If you are like me and sensitive to medicines, be prepared for side effects."

For Cough "I have had a bad cough for over a week. The doctor said it was bronchitis and prescribed this and Septra. It does dry you up and quiets the cough. I've taken this before but don't remember it making me feel so loopy, even 12 hours later. Definitely don't drive, and it would be advisable to have someone around."

For Cough "I've struggled with a chronic cough for years. Even the slightest trigger—a mild cold, seasonal allergies, or any minor irritant—can set off a relentless, self-perpetuating cough that lasts for months. I’ve tried everything, but this is the only remedy that truly works. I take it at night, usually just half the dose, and while it still takes a few weeks, it effectively calms my cough enough to function and finally heal from the irritation. I honestly don’t know what I’d do without it."

For Cold Symptoms "Unfortunately, I have had the third teaspoon, and I am still coughing my butt off. I know for a fact that Walgreens at the University and trying are good for not giving you the prescription prescribed by your attending physician. I am definitely returning this medication to Walgreens, so help me God."

For Cough "As stated, Tussionex is expensive. With that said, you get what you pay for. I had a cough that kept me up for 3 days. I went to my doctor, and he prescribed Tussionex for me. I had 1 teaspoon before bed and woke up 8 1/2 hours later. My cough did not wake me up once during the night."
