Capsaicin topical "This should be called the burning lotion from hell. I put it on last night and my knees and elbows are still burning. And yes, several showers later, two at 1:30 a.m. Thanks a lot. I will NEVER EVER USE IT AGAIN. You can shove this burning sensation!!!!"

"I had this for my post-op nerve pain. Warning: wash hands after applying this!! This stuff burns bad, especially if you get it in your eyes. Wash hands thoroughly after applying it. It stings intensely for an hour or so, way more intense than deep heat, but right now seems to be calming down, and I have high hopes for it. I'll update after a week or two, but the intense burning cannot be overstated."

"Suffering for over 2 months with sciatic nerve and hamstring pain, using Advil 400 mg every 8 hours, which just wasn't completely relieving the pain. A bottle of Absorbine (not Jr.), produced in 2000, was in the medicine cabinet and contains capsaicin, along with herbals and other ingredients. After application, the pain almost immediately was reduced from 10 to about 7 (still taking Advil). But about the 4th application of the Absorbine described above, I noticed pain subsided for a longer period. Now I am unable to locate Absorbine with like ingredients. I found a cream called Capzicin, and it seems to be working satisfactorily (2 times a day), along with the 400 mg Advil (taken every 8 hrs.)."

"This capsaicin cream was incredibly beneficial at relieving sciatica and pain caused by disc issues in my lower back. The relief was rapid and beyond my expectation. However, despite every precaution taken, it has affected my eyes, roof of mouth, throat, and lungs. I applied it carefully and washed my hands well, but it's as though I still breathed it in. I have the taste of it in my mouth days later and a tight chest combined with a cough and a feeling of throat constriction and chest tightness. As much as I wish I could use this product for its amazing pain relief, what I am undergoing days after stopping it (hot showers reactivate and disperse it from the skin with steam, so this may last a while!) this side effect is a deal-breaker."

"I was suffering due to sciatic nerve compression (not sure it is because of lumbar hernia or piriformis muscle spasm, the doc did not mention) for a long time. I used a capsaicin patch on my lower back (applied only for 8 hours). I felt much better the next day."

"I used this per my oncologist for neuropathy in my feet caused by chemo. NEVER EVER WILL I USE THIS AGAIN! I have been up all night trying to wash this off. The burning sensation is unbearable. Feels like my toes are roasting on a fire. This cream should be sold by prescription only so the patient is definitely warned about the burning sensation."

Capsaicin topical "My left knee was hurting due to maybe overexercising it, so I decided to apply this. Pain in my knee went away almost instantly, but got replaced with a really hard burning sensation. Must say I have a very high pain threshold, but this cream was too much. The burning feeling is awful. I couldn't sleep at all. I already have washed the area several times, but it still burns. I think for very heavy pain, this could do the trick, but if your pain is not that heavy, it doesn't worth replacing a pain sensation with a bad burn sensation."

Capsaicin topical "Holy fudge. Hotter than a hot sauce. Tried washing it off after 10 mins as leg was burning like lava! Washing it off still didn’t work. An hour later, still burning. Ice packs, water spray bottle, damp cold cloths... still burning."

Capsaicin topical "I was prescribed Gabapentin at high levels, Naproxen, and Celebrex for pain and was not working so well. I asked the doctor for a prescription for Zostrix HP 0.075 topical cream for compressed nerve in my hip, which had caused numbness and hot shooting pain on the outer leg above the knee. The first time I applied it, yes, there was some burning, but the secret is to use a very little amount. After the second application, the burning was less. This stuff is amazing, it works as described. Nerve pain in my leg reduced by 60% by the second day! Now I can sleep and enjoy the whole day pain-free! Note: wear gloves to apply and use 4 times a day, the longer you use the cream, the less pain you're in! Yes, I would highly recommend this for nerve pain and muscle and joint pain! Finally, something that works!"

"I like it, it burns, but that is nothing compared to back pain, which can be crippling. It does not stop pain, I found, it's just nice to have my brain focus on something else as well as back pain. Pain from this cream is like sunburn, and I recommend not wearing tight clothing over the area, as it seems to sweat and get hotter, unless it's just me who gets that."

"My GP told me to use this, so I put it on this morning before work. It was fine. Went in the shower and now my knee is badly burning and really red. Tried everything to stop it, but it is still burning. Will never use this again."

Capsaicin topical "I applied to my neck for pain. It did get rid of the neck pain, but I think that’s because the burning feeling of the medication masked the pain. I felt like my neck was severely sunburned. I was camping, and the burning started when I went outside in the Texas heat. It felt fine inside. Wash your hands. I got some on my nose and eye when I rubbed it. That was pretty bad."

"NEVER EVER!!! I worked a double, and my BF told me he would rub my feet because I had to be back to work in a few hours. He used the capsaicin HP cream, and the fan was blowing on them, so it wasn’t bad. 5 AM I got ready and left for work. I started walking in and was feeling very warm feet, then hot, hot, hot. 2 hours in, it felt like my legs and feet were cooking in hot oil. My whole body started trembling from the intense pain. I literally took my shoes and socks off and got into the mop sink to relieve some pain. Didn’t help. I walked barefoot through a parking garage (could barely walk) and had to call him to come get me. We had to throw my new shoes and socks away. Soaked in vinegar, Dawn, alcohol, cornstarch, baking soda, Desitin, the burn won’t stay away, comes back every time I put socks or shoes on. We threw away the cream! NOBODY should ever get into that stuff."

"Put a small amount on the base of my thumb for arthritis pain (recommended by my doctor). Seemed fine at first. Six hours later, it feels like my hand is on fire. Also bumped my neck with my hand, and that area started burning as well as having a red area much larger than what I touched. Cold and aloe did nothing to help it feel better. It's now 12:30 a.m., and I am in terrible pain (I have a pretty high pain tolerance if that tells you anything) and have to be up at 4:00 a.m. for work. I honestly don't know how I can keep using this to 'get used to it.' The pharmacist was so helpful... not. She said not to use cold if that makes it worse... wow. I will never use this again ($12 down the drain) and never recommend it. I don't do reviews, but knew I had to for this. I hope it helps someone making a decision to try it or not. I wish I would have researched first, but figured if my doctor recommended it, then it would be a good option."

"Capsaicin is the worst cream ever! I have R.A. Haven't been able to get rid of pain in my arm and shoulder, not to mention the pain ran up my neck, so decided to try rubbing it in, and immediately it started to burn! It was like if someone threw hot oil on me. I could not get it off. I tried showering with cold water. I tried putting soap on it so I could wash it off. I tried aloe vera. Anything, the pain was not going away. I felt like I was burning. I do not recommend this to anyone."

"Well, what can I say? When this cream works, it is a godsend. But it works for my back injury only roughly 30% of the time that I use it (if I’m lucky). It also only works when I’m active, so it is no good as a remedy if I’m laid up in bed with the pain. It seems to work with my body. So it is not the best cream. But, like I said, when it does work, I have some decent relief from my pain."

"After a fall, I used a topical cream containing Capsicum Oleoresin 0.0625% by volume and Capsaicin 0.025% by volume as the only active ingredient on my lower back and one leg. This cream also contained MSM and Glucosamine. I will mention that due to more than several medical conditions involving my joints and muscles, I have been on long-term Oxycontin 20 mg, twice daily, and Lyrica 150 mg, three times daily. The pain from the fall was so intense, the oral meds were not enough. The cream was applied one time only. There was no warming/cooling sensation ever felt. Seven days from that application, I would wake at night feeling like I was on a heating pad set at super hot overdrive. This was extremely painful, with the pain lasting 15-45 minutes. I am wondering how much longer this is going to last? This has happened the last 5 nights. I would also like to add that the cream was very effective at easing the extreme pain I was in."

"I tried this capsicum .10 pain cream, CVS brand. Now my feet-specifically the tops of my feet and my toes' cuticles-have been burning 14/10, bad stinging, redness, and swelling. Wish I didn’t put that on my feet. It did not reduce any pain, it created inflammation, swelling, and has been causing severe pain for 3 hours. I used scrub gloves in the shower, so I assume the chili pepper got a deeper application than it was supposed to. They should have warnings on this. The tops of my feet and toes burning and stinging. I have used soap and cold water, milk, cold water bucket soak for hours, alcohol wipes, ice, cold water bottles. It hurts to walk, and my toes are visibly swollen. I would never use that again and wouldn’t want that to happen to another person. Used this 1-2 times ever."

"I've got osteoarthritis in both knees. I've had injections, but they don't work. I have asthma, so Doc won't prescribe pain relievers for me. I was in really bad pain in both knees, so I researched online and found capsaicin cream. I asked my GP, and he prescribed it for me. It took a few weeks, but now I'm pain-free. Just don't understand why my GP didn't prescribe it for me in the first place."

"It did wonders for my shingles pain and now using it for plantar fasciitis. Yes, it did burn some, especially initially when my body would warm up (the intensity wears off, as the manufacturer says, with time). But it did completely redirect my attention from pain to warmth, which I found mostly pleasant. Also, it is great for plantar fasciitis (though not a cure)."

"A great number of the users who reported persistent burning attempted to wash off the capsaicin cream with water. Since capsaicin is the 'hot' in hot chiles, this is definitely the wrong direction, as water will only spread the burn. Use dairy products (whole, if possible) or a neutral vegetable oil (capsaicin is soluble in oil)."

Capsaicin topical "I damaged my knee in an accident 3 weeks ago. Now I can't walk. This cream has made no difference to the high level of pain. But then the product sheet only says that it MAY work in 4-6 weeks. So, one tube a week at $21.95 x 6... for something that MAY work! Don't 'they,' whoever they are, do any deep testing and evaluation of these products, or do they use the market to try them out more profitably? And what's in it? 0.025% chili (capsaicin). Try rubbing a chili in where it hurts, or sprinkle chili powder on. It may help. It won't cost much."
