For Hyperprolactinemia "I was on Bromocriptine for two years. The side effects were depression, weight gain, extreme nausea, and extreme constipation. I've now been transferred to Dostinex and spent the last year without the side effects, and it's been life-changing! I'm so thankful for this opportunity to feel normal again!"

For Hyperprolactinemia "I first went on cabergoline back in 1995 in Germany after my daughter was born and a pituitary tumor was diagnosed. For 12 years, it kept my tumor small. In 2007, I moved back to the USA and was refused all treatment for my tumor as a pre-existing condition. I couldn’t afford the cost of cabergoline without insurance covering it, so I stopped taking it. In 2010, my tumor got so large without my realizing what was going on that I almost died. I had surgery, back on cab, residual/tumor regrowth remains manageable. I’ve never had side effects and have had good results keeping my tumor in check with cabergoline."

Cabergoline for Hyperprolactinemia "Three months ago, I have used Dostinex for 4 weeks, two times a week, half a pill, so one pill a week! Before I started to use Dostinex, my prolactin level was 589! After I used it for 4 weeks, my prolactin level dropped down to 36. I was stupid, I guess, and I stopped using it. Now I am back on Dostinex again because my prolactin level went up to 600. Please, if you are using Dostinex, regularly check with your doctor. That is my strong advice: don't be stupid like I was. Dostinex helped me with my prolactin. Thank you all."

Cabergoline for Hyperprolactinemia "This drug reduced my prolactin levels really quick. I did not have a visible prolactinoma on my MRI, but my doctor suspected it was really small. After 2 months, my prolactin levels decreased from 2000 to 150. In the first month, I felt a bit dizzy and wanted to sleep a lot more than usual (I had a few cat naps, which is heaps out of character for me - I never usually sleep during the day). This went away after about a month, and I generally feel fine taking Dostinex. I've been taking it for about 6 months now. I recommend you give it a go!"

For Hyperprolactinemia "I was prescribed this medication before and now again due to recurrent high prolactin (twice the normal). Before this, I was feeling a bit depressed, but it was manageable. You can recover right away. But this time, I'm taking it with Visanne due to endometriosis at the same time, and the side effect is so magnified. I feel so depressed, all emotions are overwhelming. I'm still on 1/2 tab 2x per week, and I've been taking it for more than a month now, and I can't sleep. I feel tired always, I can't find happiness and am severing my relationship with others due to uncontrolled emotions. I feel like I'm going crazy. I asked the nurse regarding my feelings, and she told me to just bear a little because it is really the side effect and not me."

For Hyperprolactinemia "My husband was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor around 7 years ago. It was about 6 months to 1 year on the med I started noticing him looking at other women. I would bring it to his attention and it was me being jealous. He has had several occasions that I found on his phone texting younger women, and a sexual harassment charge was brought against him at work. Now I find out that after the last 6 years of our marriage, he has been looking at porn and paying cam girls online. Mood changes, horrible. He says it is me, my (women's hormones) need to be checked. You cannot carry on a conversation with him unless he gets mad, and he is always right about everything. He never has said he is sorry for anything he has done in the past. We have been married 20 years, and he just came home from work 3 weeks ago and said that we have grown apart in the last 6 years. I wonder why. I had no idea this med could cause these side effects."

For Hyperprolactinemia "Recently (week 2) started this drug of 0.5 mg twice weekly. Was very iffy about taking it due to the reports of the side effects, but I must say I have not experienced any side effects with this medication so far. The first day, I did feel like I took a bunch of muscle relaxers and a little headache, but since then, nothing."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I was diagnosed with a 9 mm prolactinoma, and I've been on cabergoline for 8 months now. After 30 days, prolactin levels were normal (tumor size wasn't re-evaluated yet). I was never a very sex-driven person, and I did feel in the first 3 months a considerable (abnormal) increase in libido that was normalized. Also, I lost 7 kg (in the year previous to the diagnosis - and 1 of the symptoms that set me to search for medical help - I had gained 15 kg). The only side effect that persisted this far is very (VERY) painful and abundant menses. Overall, I'm very happy, it saved my life (15 kg gain was just one of the symptoms). How prolactinoma was affecting my thyroid somehow - some hormone wasn't being produced enough, and I felt tired. It was hard to walk as my Achilles tendons hurt, and more."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I started taking cabergoline a month ago. Hoping to lower my prolactin levels. Hoping it has worked, I have had a couple of side effects. One being slight headaches and the other is the huge sexual urge. It has changed my life completely. For the better."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I'm a 22-year-old female who began with Dostinex in December 2018 with macroadenoma 12 mm and a prolactin level of 237. In February 2019, prolactin decreased to 10, and the adenoma is now micro with 8 mm. My body reacted incredibly well to cabergoline; it even helped me lose weight (along with exercise and nutrition). However, I have experienced extremely painful periods, breast pain, and a runny nose (it’s like having the flu every day)."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I was diagnosed with a microadenoma 35 years ago. I’ve been taking 2.5 mg/week for my whole adult life. I have felt every negative side effect associated with taking this for years. I recently found a new endocrinologist who ordered a new MRI. My last was about 8 years ago. Previous doctors usually monitored my adenoma by checking my prolactin levels. To my shock, the MRI came back clean, no tumor present. My new endo says he needs to slowly wean me off Dostinex now. I’m terrified of the side effect syndrome associated with this drug. I’m also on a low dose of Lexapro 5 mg that I’ve tried to wean off of and thought I was going to come apart from the horrible side effects. Has anyone else been through anything like this?"

Cabergoline for Hyperprolactinemia "I have been taking Dostinex/cabergoline for 14 years. The main constant side effect is headaches. It feels like an ice pick is stabbing me in my head for a couple of seconds, and then it goes away just as quickly as it started. It only happens maybe a couple of times a month. I also find I get tired more easily and sometimes need to rest during the day. In addition, my vision has worsened. I stopped the medicine for about a year now, and I'm getting dizzy quite often lately, and my vision is worse. I fear my tumor has grown and need to see my endocrinologist again. God bless all."

For Hyperprolactinemia "Have been on cabergoline .5 for over a year, male, late 50s. After being diagnosed with a macroadenoma 1.6 cm, now it has shrunk to 8 mm. My prolactin levels are less than normal and have been since almost the start of treatment. Before treatment, I had no sex drive and was overweight. Now, my sex drive is through the roof, with constant erections and vivid sexual dreams. The upside is the tumor is reduced, and I've lost 2 stone and a lot of fat around my middle. But I get quite low in mood at times. They want to reduce the dose, which might be better."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I am on week 9 of 0.5 mg once a week for two micro-prolactinomas on my pituitary gland. I will have labs done at week 12 to see if my prolactin level has decreased. This condition and/or medication has given me side effects that absolutely challenge me and affect my quality of life. EXTREME fatigue, hair loss, excruciating headaches, depression, nausea/vomiting, menstrual (like) cramps, bloating, excessive urination (up every 90 mins all night), dizziness, vision loss, etc. It has been extremely difficult to go to work & function well."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I was on this for 3 months. I went off it because it made me feel like I had a low-level flu and was always tired. The withdrawal I had from being on this drug has been horrible! Panic attacks, mood swings, highs and lows, nausea, sleep disturbances. It's called dopamine antagonist withdrawal syndrome. I've read since people go back on it because of how bad the symptoms of withdrawal are, and how long it stays. I've been off it for 3 months now, and I am still having side effects from coming off of it. It lowered my prolactin levels into normal ranges within a month of being on it, and it's easy to use. I was on 0.5 mg once a week. I will not go back on this medication due to how it affected my mental health."

For Hyperprolactinemia "After years of being told I should lose weight for my pain and excessive bleeding, and lactating. Then the tumor was found. I have been on cabergoline for 6 months. I was diagnosed with a macroadenoma. I was prescribed 1/2 tablet twice a week. Now I take .5 tablet once a week. I approached my endocrinologist with my symptoms of nausea, headaches, mood swings, confusion, and complaint of extremely heavy bleeding, and the solution was birth control. The medicine is shrinking my tumor, but the side effects are leaving me in a horrible situation..."

Cabergoline for Hyperprolactinemia "Before I was using Parlodel, which is the same medicine for reducing prolactin. My prolactin is 49, and I am facing irregular periods. Previously, I faced horrible side effects, but with Dostinex, I am very happy, no side effects, just feel sleepy sometimes."

For Hyperprolactinemia "It did alleviate the uncomfortable symptoms of hyperprolactinemia; however, side effects were quite negative and possibly dangerous for me. I'm petite, and despite a very small dose taken bi-weekly, the side effects were strong. The morning after taking a dose, it was difficult to wake up, and I slept through alarms on many occasions. My blood pressure also dropped to very low levels, and I had to be cautious when standing up to avoid passing out. My prolactin levels are always elevated, but I only experience symptoms every 3 months for a week or 2 when I cycle to the off-week of my estrogen-replacement birth control pills. My doctor and I decided that the constant side effects were worse than the occasional, though uncomfortable, symptoms for me."

"This medicine did help shrink my pituitary tumor but did more harm than good. I had almost all symptoms. And would love for this medicine to be taken off the market. Being on this medicine, I lost all my friends, got in arguments with my mother, and couldn’t stay in any relationships. I’m usually an outgoing, happy person, but this medicine put me in deep depression, and I felt like I had multiple personalities, never knowing who I was going to be that day. I started this medicine in 2014 when I was 13 years old. It messed with my emotions, I had extreme weight gain immediately, severe stomach cramps, depression, increased anxiety, random panic attacks, and sensitivity. My doctor took me off the medicine because of how much it was affecting me, and on December 26, 2018, I had my tumor removed. I feel so much better and happier. The medicine was worse than having the tumor alone. Cabergoline did not completely shrink my tumor or completely lower my prolactin levels."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I was diagnosed with hyperprolactinemia in November 2021, my level was 83.4 ng, very high. I started using cabergoline in January. I used Synergo cabergoline in January and Dostinex cabergoline in February. I just went to retest, and it has dropped down to 0.8 ng (now very low) from 83.4 ng in just 2 months of treatment. Cabergoline is very effective."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I've been taking cabergoline for about a month now due to high prolactin levels (76). It was prescribed by my doctor, but side effects have been rough. My anxiety levels have been through the roof. The first time I took the pill, I had a horrible headache, sometimes it's difficult to breathe, and last week I almost fainted at work. I haven't checked my prolactin levels again since I'm waiting for the treatment to be over (a month and a half of taking a pill of 0.5 mg twice a week), but oh man, so far it's been a terrible experience. I just want it to be over. But hey, at least I got my period back and my sex drive back, and I wasn't even aware that I had lost it."

For Hyperprolactinemia "It has reduced my prolactin levels effectively, and it increases testosterone to some extent. The side effects are loss of motivation and finding mental exertion more tiring, which can be a real problem at work. The side effects seem to be dose dependent, so I break the pills into quarters or eighths and take them more often to eliminate the peaks after dosing. I've also been able to reduce the dose while still keeping the prolactin levels in the middle of the normal range, which has also helped with side effects."

For Hyperprolactinemia "Was diagnosed with prolactinoma earlier in the year after months of missed periods. MRI showed clear, but SST gave a biochemical finding. After months of feeling blue, crying all the time, putting on weight (a lot), enormous boobs, being moody, exhausted all the time, and having short but intense headaches. After four weeks of half a pill twice a week, I can honestly say I feel just like my old self and period returned, boobs went to nearly normal size, weight shifting, and the energy level is back to nearly normal. It took a couple of weeks for the nausea to go away, but it does, and had no other side effects. I take it before bed with a snack, and it seems to stop the nausea."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I was diagnosed with PCOS and a high prolactinoma of 36.5 ng. My fertility doctor placed me on cabergoline, metformin, and ovofolic. I have taken 2 tablets per week of cabergoline for 8 weeks, the test was re-run, and the prolactin level is now normal. But I have to continue the metformin and ovofolic due to the PCOS. It's best to take the cabergoline at night before bedtime to reduce the side effects. I am hopeful I test positive as soon as possible, as I have been TTC for 2 years before I started treatment on June 5th, 2021."
