Cabergoline for Hyperprolactinemia "I just started Dostinex. It is my second week, and the side effects are headaches and dizziness. I feel sick as ever. I did not get sleep. It is better to take it with a meal at night to get fewer side effects. My prolactin was 77.4, waiting for next week to see if it decreases. I used Parlodel 5 years ago, but I stopped because of side effects, and it has not decreased my prolactin. So far, Dostinex is better."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I was prescribed Dostinex 0.5 mg once per week to reduce prolactin levels that were elevated after coming off TRT for 5 years. I did question this since my prolactin count was coming down by itself with follow-up blood work. I took this medication twice and won’t take it again. The reason being is that it made me feel completely uninterested in life and very depressed. I had no interest in my girlfriend, no sexual desire, and my personality change was too much of a swing to the downside. After about 3-4 days, I quite quickly began to feel more normal again."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I have a macro non-functioning pituitary adenoma, which is causing compression of my pituitary stalk, 'stalk effect,' which causes increases in prolactin blood levels. My endo put me on this to reduce the 'stalk effect' I'm suffering from my macro adenoma. My crushing headaches have weakened, the lactating stopped, and my period is back on schedule. However, the side effects are extreme. They last about 5 days after taking my dose for the week. The nausea is unbearable, causing me to take a drug for that at $104/month, as I spent all day vomiting. I have what I describe as a feeling of being drunk and hungover all at once. I can't drive, but for two days a week. So tired, dizzy, weak, low blood pressure, flu-like. I am hoping for surgery soon, but I live so remotely logistics make it difficult, as I'm 13 hours from the specialists. I rated a 5, as the headaches were horrid, but so are the side effects."

For Hyperprolactinemia "My experience using cabergoline has helped so far. As of 5/2022, my prolactin levels are down from 105 to 40. I started this drug in 4/2022, and since then, I've noticed dizziness, faintness, passing gas, slight blurriness in vision, increased mood (extra happiness), and cramps. Also, my bathroom routine is about the same. This drug has not impacted my ability to work or drive."

For Hyperprolactinemia "Am 30 years of age, having a high prolactin level of 39. I used bromocriptine for a month, recently, I carried out a test and it was reduced to 18. Now switched to cabergoline 0.25 mg twice a week due to the scarcity of bromocriptine and also have PCOS. I am trying to conceive for a year now, but I just started the medication. I have this constant anger, depression, and mood swings always, just so annoyed at any slight confrontation. But I am still hoping I get pregnant soon. I really want to conceive."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I have a pituitary adenoma that causes high prolactin levels. The cabergoline gave me bad side effects the first 2 weeks. Gradually got less severe. Prolactin levels became normal. Not sure if the tumor is shrinking. But the last MRI showed no growth."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I've been taking it for about two weeks now because I have a prolactinoma, and so far the side effects have been fatigue, extreme headache, and my ears pop a lot as if I'm on an airplane, flu-like symptoms, stuffy nose, drowsy, dizzy, but it's not that bad. Also, really bad stomach pain, so I usually take it before I sleep."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I was diagnosed with a pituitary microadenoma. At first, my doctor gave me bromocriptine 2.5 mg every day for the hyperprolactinemia. I took it for only 4 days because I was so sick after 4 days, dizzy, nausea, vomiting, and the buzzing in my left ear was so loud I felt like there was air inside. I ended up at the emergency room. So the doctor changed my meds to cabergoline 2.5 mg once a week, but the side effects are so bad too. I took it for only 2 weeks, I can't stand it anymore, dizziness and the nausea are the worst."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I have been diagnosed with a microprolactinoma (4x9 mm) about a month ago. My prolactin levels were around 150 ng/ml. I started using cabergoline 0.25 mg twice a week. At the end of only one month, my prolactin levels dropped from 150 to 3 ng/ml. I have been told to use it for about 2 years to eventually shrink the tumor. The side effects were (especially in the first 2 weeks) nausea, extreme fatigue, and depression. I started on Zoloft for the depression, and it worked pretty well."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I've been taking cabergoline for about a month now, and my first 2 weeks I had really bad headaches and stomach aches the next day. Now I just experience a very bloated stomach like twice a week, which is annoying. I'm hoping that stops and I lose some of this weight gain because of this high prolactin."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I had a 4.3 cm prolactinoma with prolactin level at 9500. Taking 0.5 mg every other day. Biggest side effect is costs and availability. Walmart pharmacy always does a partial fill as they are always out of stock. Internet search for average price yields nothing. Shame on these drug companies. Levels now at 600. To Maleka on a previous post with ice pick pain headache, you may have trigeminal neuralgia. Your cure is Tegretol. Been there, done that, good luck."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I just started 0.50 mg of cabergoline Friday to lower prolactin and a tumor on my pituitary gland. Saturday I felt so groggy, my body hurt like I had the flu, bloating, and drugged. It's Sunday, and I still feel weak with an upset stomach. I'm trying to be patient and work through side effects. Any advice to minimize side effects? I will be calling my endo in the morning."

Cabergoline for Hyperprolactinemia "I used Dostinex 2 years ago for a few months. I had nausea and vomiting the first few days, but I continued taking it for a year and the side effects went away. My prolactin went from just over 200 down to 94. It also helped me lose weight. I had to stop taking it because it was too expensive. I started taking it again 2 weeks ago and the only side effect I have is mild headaches."

For Hyperprolactinemia "32 yr. old male. Prolactin levels 55.9. I've been on cabergoline for 4 weeks now. My lab results came back, and I am now within the healthy range at 9.9. I went maybe 2 weeks with bad nausea and headaches, then they subsided, and those effects are less intense and less frequent. I rated a 7 because the medicine certainly works quickly at bringing down prolactin. I do not know the results about it shrinking the adenoma or not yet, so I am still unsure if it works on that front. So far, so good. While the side effects were annoying and disrupted my daily life, it is certainly better than the alternative of surgery to remove the 'noma' from my pituitary gland."

Cabergoline for Hyperprolactinemia "After getting nauseated and not being able to function well on the other two Dopa agonists I tried, no nausea and no noticeable dizziness on this. Immediately upon starting cabergoline, I slept like a baby. It was a very noticeable change. Then, after a few months, I became an insomniac. The other persistent things were that I developed a stuffy nose when my dose was due and for about a day after taking it (every four days). I was also more tired the day after I took it (always at night). A good side effect was being able to drink very little with full effect. My temper was better than it was prior. It may have boosted my libido slightly. Eventually, I got my dose down to about an eighth of a pill, then a couple of months ago, I lost my bottle. Withdrawal was sleeping incredibly poorly for about four to five nights. I’m not lactating, as I did every time when stopping it over the years, so maybe middle age is working for me. Cheaper in Canada, but recommend you get brand Dostinex only."

For Hyperprolactinemia "Cabergoline has been effective in lowering my prolactin levels and shrinking my tumor. However, the side effects are rough. Dizziness, extremely tired, nearly constant nausea, which often leads to vomiting. Cabergoline is better than the other two medications I have tried, though."

For Hyperprolactinemia "After reviewing so many negative/scary reviews about Cabergoline, I decided not to take it until after I did my MRI, which was 6 months later, and confirmed microadenoma. I have a microadenoma measuring 5 mm, and the endocrinologist prescribed 0.25 mg weekly. My prolactin level was 28. I decided to start taking it in June 2023. The only side effects I experienced were drowsiness and bloating/gas. It has been almost 3 months, and my prolactin level went down to 12. I am very happy with the progress and glad I made the decision to take it. Everyone's body reacts differently to medications."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I've been on this medicine for 6 years. I've noticed while being on the medicine that I've been able to lose weight regularly. My period comes but returns heavy. I've been to the doctor about the heavy bleeding, and they just gave me birth control pills to stop the bleeding. Since I was bleeding for almost an entire month, in my mind, I thought it was just backed-up periods, but now they are blood clots, so I'm hopefully going to get seen soon."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I was prescribed this (0.5 mg x 7 days) after a fertility treatment when my estradiol levels got really high. Caused terrible constipation, as if my entire gut motility had slowed down to a crawl, this despite taking senna/Miralax daily, eating high-fiber foods, lots of water, daily walks. Also felt intermittently lightheaded, slightly altered, and poor sleep."

Cabergoline for Hyperprolactinemia "I am 30 years old and taking Dostinex for the last 13 years since I was diagnosed with a macroadenoma. The first years, I was taking 1 mg weekly, and the last years only the half dose - 0.5 mg per week. What is really negative about Dostinex is its high price. I would like to inform users that I buy it from Bulgaria, where the price is 4 times cheaper than in Cyprus (17 EUR per 8 tablets). In regards to the side effects, I used to have depression and changes in mood, but I think it is impossible to know if it comes from Dostinex or not. I wouldn't say there are strong negative side effects on me. I can easily concentrate and memorize. I have heard Dostinex is known to stimulate concentration and develop motor skills. I don't encourage anybody to take it without reason, but I believe besides negative, there are positive side effects as well."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I'm a 23 y/o male with secondary hypogonadism caused by high prolactin levels. My initial prolactin was 3900 (47-405) and testosterone 1.6 (10-38). After being on this drug for 4 months, my prolactin dropped to 1045 and testosterone risen to 17.9. I'm taking 0.5 mg of cabergoline 3 times a week. Although my prolactin levels are not yet within the normal range, it has brought back my T levels from 1.6 to 17.9, which is amazing. Side effects are mild depression, headache, and drowsiness. I take it in the evening to prevent such bad effects of the drug."

For Hyperprolactinemia "2nd time on this medication for a naughty tumor secreting prolactin. Medication did cause me to go a little loopy and dizzy during the beginning, as a result, I take the medication late in the evening so I sleep through the worst of it. I experienced hallucinations while on the drug, thinking I'm seeing spiders crawl up the wall in the corner of my eye. Once I look, they disappear, the hallucinations are more frequent in dark rooms. Changes in behavior, I find it more difficult to control strong emotions. It's a bit annoying to get hold of, my pharmacy never has it in stock, so I have to ring ahead to ensure it's ordered before I run out."

"I am a 44-year-old male, diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 2005. Over the past couple of years, I've found it increasingly difficult to achieve an orgasm during intercourse. I read about cabergoline in an MS forum to alleviate anorgasmia and got an Rx from a urologist. After a couple of months of taking it, I am able to achieve a normal orgasm again and have never felt better - I used to be really a grouchy person and for good reason. My wife caught me smiling during sex - enough said..."
