For Hyperprolactinemia "Female, 27 years old, being treated for depression and general anxiety disorder. I found out I had a microadenoma two weeks ago because of my persistent depression and anxiety. My doctor put me on cabergoline .5 mg twice a week, so half a pill Saturday morning, half a pill Saturday night, half a pill Tuesday morning, and half a pill Tuesday night. I only took it one Saturday and one Tuesday and ended up in the emergency room for horrible panic attacks. They started two days after the first dose, but it came to a point where I just wanted to die so I could stop feeling like that. My doctor put me on propranolol and alprazolam to lower my dopamine levels because I was in a psychotic state for days. I halved my dose and skipped my next one, which made me miserable, and I’m still struggling to breathe properly because of the effects. I don't like it now but still need to take it for my prolactinoma."

For Hyperprolactinemia "Diagnosed with a prolactinoma in '09 after noticing visual disturbances and lactation (wasn't pregnant). Tests and scans ran, and a tumor was discovered. Prolactin levels were higher than what's normal, and a specialist prescribed Cabergoline 1/2 a tablet twice a week. The only major side effect I've noticed is insomnia. I never get a restful night's worth of sleep. I have miscarried 4 different times anywhere from 3 to 6 months into the pregnancy within the past 10 years. I have been told mixed reasons on why this keeps happening and if it's related to the prolactinoma or not. I lost over 70 lbs with a newfound lifestyle of working out and eating nutritiously, along with Cabergoline. I wouldn't be surprised if the medicine helped, given I started losing weight within a month of not even trying. I stopped taking it for about 6 months at one point, and initial symptoms came back. I continue to take it with no noticeable mood swings or lethargy, even though I still suffer from insomnia."

Cabergoline for Hyperprolactinemia "I used it for almost a year for the treatment of prolactinoma. After six months, I did an MRI, and the tumor is smaller, but the effects are terrible: fatigue, sick stomach, foggy mind, depression. I do not know what to say. I am very tired, I do not know how it will go like this. Next month, I have an appointment with my endo, and I will say that I can't use it anymore."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I've been on 0.7 on Monday and 0.5 on Friday for a week and no more lactation. I've started having weird dreams 3 days after I started the upped dose, but I'm sleeping again, so I'm hoping to tough it out. I'm hoping symptoms go away or lessen. Oh, and I'm also having sharp pain in my belly and bottom. I read somewhere that symptoms go away with time."

For Hyperprolactinemia "Female 32, have been taking Cabergoline since 2021 because of an 8mm tumor and high lactose. I had my period back, but I stopped taking it in August 2022. Now my vision is getting worse (blurred vision)."

For Hyperprolactinemia "Husband had 'bulky' pituitary, prolactin level 29,000, taking Dostinex since Oct 2019. Had virtual reality dreams, high sexual urges, erections at most inconvenient times. Sees me as girlfriend, married 45 yrs. Was caught on senior dating website last year, as I was not able or wanting to satisfy his sudden urges (which I did not even know he had, until it all came out suddenly). Had a lot of rows over it, no explicit warnings from docs highlighting these extreme side effects. He wants me to change hair, makeup, buying sexual toys, underwear for me. Doc at hospital now halved his dose to half a tablet a week BUT he's still taking the same dose. I can't make him change it. Been a real pain for me, I've wanted to move out a few times. Plus side: prolactin now 300, pituitary shrunk down. Really reacted well to treatment."

For Hyperprolactinemia "After 1.5 months of treatment, it has reduced my prolactin levels from 1264 μUI/mL to 285 μUI/mL. I take 0.25 mg weekly during meals, as specified in the patient information leaflet (Europe) to prevent nausea and vomiting. I take it in the evening to prevent dizziness. When I took the second dose, I started experiencing skin itching (I am prone to allergies), so now I take 1 tablet of Claritin (loratadine) one hour before taking cabergoline. I have had mild constipation. The next day after the first dose, I felt like I was rising from the dead. My depression was gone, my fatigue was gone, and in the first two weeks, my panic attacks (very strong before starting the treatment) were gone. Unfortunately, after two months of treatment, I am back to my “normal” depressed, tired, and anxious self. Now, however, I am also angry all the time. It also seems to stimulate my hirsutism, although I am on medication for lowering my testosterone levels."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I am one month in taking this pill 0.5 mg every 3-4 days, and I feel extremely dizzy, more dizzy than before I took it. It's hard to focus, but I also feel it is doing its job and lowering my prolactin levels to where they need to be. I'm stopping the meds for now because the dizziness is too much. I take anti-nausea meds and antivertigo meds, and they work for a bit, but they wear off and it comes back more intense. I'm going this week to check my levels again. The pills work, the side effects are rough."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I’m 57 and was diagnosed with a pituitary tumor. A prolactinoma. My prolactin level was 1300 (not a typo!). The medicine cabergoline was very hard on my stomach, and I was lethargic after taking it. I was not tolerating it well at all. My husband’s friend, a reproductive endocrinologist, suggested I try taking it vaginally to avoid the stomach. That has helped tremendously. The only side effects I have after switching are a stuffy nose, mild mood change the day after, and some weight gain. My levels now after 8 months are at 70. They are hoping to get it down to 15."

For Hyperprolactinemia "Just had an awful night from the effects of cabergoline 0.5 mg. Felt like there was poison in my stomach, and the abdominal pain is just too much. Had to vomit and had diarrhea at the same time. It just happened so suddenly. Most times, just had bad cramps and abdominal pain. Bad times I get this combo of pain, diarrhea, vomit, and dizziness. Four hours usually of intense abdominal pain and nightmare. I had started on the meds nine years ago and stopped because of the cost and the cost for the doc and the pain. But it works. It brought down the prolactin, and menstrual does come back. But once I stop the meds, everything went back to the same prolactin level >250. Wish there are no side effects. It's a painful experience, and since I had to take it every week."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I was diagnosed with prolactinoma in '01 after lactating 1.5 years with increased breast size. It all started after 3 months of Prozac in '98. Nurse wouldn't believe it until I could demonstrate by shooting milk across the room. Put on Bromo for 3 months but it was intolerable, then Dostinex 0.5 mg twice/week ever since. Prolactin levels have stayed below 15. Endo recently explained organ fibrosis/heart issues with the medication, that it's usually only used for 5 years max, plus once you hit menopause it is not needed. I stopped 3 weeks ago. Breast size decreased 3 inches within a week - dream come true! They had increased 5 cup sizes in the past 10 years. Then last week they suddenly got big again, plus milky discharge. My bad side effects - depression, rage, fatigue, weakness, worst is huge boobs which the medication originally controlled for many years. I felt human again for 3 weeks. Also have MS which cabergoline worsens. This temporary, drastic decrease in breast size while off the medication has me baffled. Will ask for brand Dostinex (was switched to generic years ago)."

For Hyperprolactinemia "28-year-old female. I was first diagnosed with a 13mm prolactinoma, which was later figured out to be a non-functioning pituitary tumor. Turns out, after seeing an expert surgeon, it is a Rathke's Cleft Cyst on the pituitary stalk. After no results of improved hormone levels with 4 months of Bromocriptine, I started Cabergoline .5 mg, 2 times a week. Symptoms such as extreme dizziness and lightheadedness occurred, but after nearly 6 months on the medication, it's not as bad. Mood changes and depression began after a couple of months, and I hope to have my dosage decreased next week. All of my hormone levels were normal within 2-3 months, but I'm not sure I can deal with mood swings and depression. RCCs don't normally shrink with medication."

For Hyperprolactinemia "Found out I had microadenoma and high prolactin levels of over 1800 back in 2019 due to breasts leaking and not pregnant. Been on cabergoline 3 years now. I went for my MRI in Feb this year, and it’s still the same size etc., it’s not shrunk, I’m still secreting milk. I have not seen the endo in ages. My mood's not been good, headaches, little weight loss (only just after 3 years)."

"32-year-old female using for restless leg syndrome, absolutely brilliant med, which eases the symptoms very quickly. No side effects noticed, did have to increase fairly early on but have been amazing. Easy to take. Only negative is they have been taken away due to pregnancy, although baby is fine and growing fine."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I've been instructed to take 0.5 (1/2) dosage of cabergoline after getting a result that my prolactin level is too high, which symptoms were irregular (absent) menstruation, breast milk, and not pregnant or breastfeeding, infertility. So I just started taking them. I am told to take half every week. So far, they are making me sick: headache."

"I've been on this cabergoline for 4 days, and have never felt worse in my life. My depression is through the roof, I have no energy or motivation throughout the day. All I want to do is sleep, and when I'm awake, everything is a fog. I'm like a totally different person, and everyone around me can see it. Thank God I only need to take it 10 days, but I would rather just stop it now."

For Hyperprolactinemia "For the past 3 to 4 years, my periods were on and off. Two and a half years ago, I felt suicidal every night, after 3 months, I found out during my breast surgery recovery that my period absence was due to a pituitary tumor. My prolactin blood test showed 617, and an MRI revealed a tumor size of 8.5 * 10 * 9 mm. I was prescribed cabergoline 0.5 mg twice a week. Initially, I experienced headaches, vomiting, dizziness, and fatigue. After 2 years in 2024, half of the tumor had shrunk. The doctor recommended continuing the medication for another two years. Recently, I've been experiencing dizziness when waking up, feeling depressed, not like myself, and easily getting frustrated over small matters. Despite this, I remain hopeful for better days."

For Hyperprolactinemia "I was diagnosed with high prolactin in April 2021 (2803). Since then, it has been from one drug to another. Because I haven't seen my period in 6 months, after I changed my doctor, he prescribed cabergoline and metformin. After taking them for 2 months and my period didn't come, he asked me to do HSG. After that, with continued taking of my drug by week 11 and a half, my period came. The side effects were something else, but I thank God my period is back, hoping to get pregnant soon."

For Hyperprolactinemia "This medication brought down my prolactin levels, but it caused episodes of anxiety and tinnitus, which I have been told has no cure. I was told that I would not be able to have children while taking this medication, which was not correct. If aware of the long-term effects, I would not have taken the medication and tried a herbal supplement if one was available."

For Hyperprolactinemia "Found out after 2 years of being written off as perimenopause symptoms, I’ve got a prolactinoma. I knew as time went on it was more than peri, my fatigue was awful. I could barely stay awake at times, despite a very healthy lifestyle. The migraines got worse over the last 2 years, I never suffered from migraines or even light headaches before. Then came the milk-4 months of lactating! Anyhow, been on cabergoline, only 0.25 mg, 1 x per week for 2 weeks now. Within 2 days, no joke, my energy restored-well, actually like I’ve never had before, to be honest. Made me wonder if prolactin always ridden high, from the start to the end of my day. I’m working out in the morning and full of energy still through work shifts to the end of the day! 4 days in, no more milk (!), normal boobs without milk! Aww, the joy lol! And the migraines have nearly vanished, just had 2 light ones. Only downside I’ve noticed so far is my sleep. It’s like I’m barely needing it (but I know I do!!). I will watch out for that! I’m so happy!"
