"Wellbutrin seemed to make me angry, and I lost my sex drive. After taking it for 3 weeks, I started to itch all over. Needless to say, I don't take it anymore."

For Depression "I have been on this med for about 2 months. My doctor has upped the dosage to two 100 mg a day. I feel terrible. I feel like I want to slap people, have a smart mouth, am snippy, crying, not sleeping, and very tired all day. Still depressed."

For Depression "I was on Wellbutrin for 3 days, and it gave me massive paranoia, anxiety, and felt like I was going crazy. When I was on a walk, I was seeing my brother's face in guys who were walking by. If you are on Wellbutrin and experience anything like this, please get off of it immediately. Everyone is different, this does work well for some. Medication is all about trial and error! They are switching me to Effexor 37.5 mg, and I’m scared, but we will see."

For Depression "I started taking Wellbutrin because I am in a fast-paced nursing program. At first, I thought it was working well. It hit me within 30 minutes of taking it. I took it for 3 weeks, and things got worse, I felt so anxious I would cry, and I couldn’t go out because I was panicking so badly. I started to get really bad insomnia and really bad thoughts every second of every day. I stopped taking it, and I am better most days now. Everyone is different, and some things work for some, and for others, it does not."

For Depression "I have mixed feelings about this medication. I know so many people whose lives have been changed for the better by taking this. I, however, had the complete opposite experience. I wanted to try a non-stimulant route for my ADHD, but even at the max dose, it never fully helped. It motivated me to get out of bed and do my daily routine, but I never truly got anything done. The thing that really got me was the anger it made me feel. I have never been an aggressive person. My friends had told me they had been walking on eggshells with me, as well as my family. As with all antidepressants, how you react to them just depends on your brain chemistry. If you take this medication, PLEASE monitor your mood and how you react to things."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I got this medication prescribed for MDD, ADD, and as an aid to quit smoking, and since I heard a lot of positive reviews on the Internet, I was hyped. But I've been on 150 mg for 3 months, 300 mg for 2 months, and 450 mg for 1 month now, and I don't notice a thing. Just as suicidal as ever, maybe even worse, since I'm so disappointed. It's the 4th antidepressant I've tried so far, and nothing works."

For Major Depressive Disorder "Currently on this medication, 150 mg daily. I expected the side effects to be bad after reading some reviews here, and they were, lol. Thought so many people said it would calm down after the first month, but it's been longer than that. Usually for me, the nausea is the worst thing. I never want to eat anything, food just disgusts me most of the time now. I felt like it was really helping the depression a few weeks ago, but now I am more suicidal than ever. Also, my anxiety is horrible. Many days, I don't want to leave the house. I used to be agoraphobic about 10 or so years ago (in my teens), and now I feel myself heading that direction again. It also has really affected my sleep, or at least that's what I'm assuming. I have been having a very hard time getting to sleep, and then if I wake up from something, it's even harder to fall back asleep. It just sucks. The only plus is that it doesn't increase my appetite. Hope this helps."

"I only took this for three days because it increased my anxiety greatly and did not help with the jaw clenching I’ve been experiencing. It also made me incredibly and irrationally angry about everything, and I felt like I was crawling out of my skin. This was only on 50 mg, which is half the starting dose."

For Depression "It is amazing to see the variability in how people respond to Wellbutrin! However, this is common for most psychotropic medications. I started taking it to see if it would help with my Seasonal Affective Disorder and fibromyalgia. I started to feel more energetic, creative, and almost stoned within the first week. I felt so much better I decided to leave my 23-year marriage because I felt like I now had the energy to break free and find a more positive relationship. However, after two and a half months on Wellbutrin, only at 100 mg, I started to feel edgy, anxious, and 'not myself.' I was feeling like I was losing myself, and it was starting to be quite scary! After two days off of the med, now I am feeling like myself again. When we take meds like this, we really need to monitor whether we are doing better or worse overall. Whatever you do, make sure you are doing psychotherapy at the same time. Whatever you do, don't give up on yourself!"

For Depression "I'm on day 3 of Wellbutrin. So far, it's been miserable. I'm on the lowest dose and still having horrible stomach side effects. I can't eat, I have no appetite, severe diarrhea with intense stomach pain. I'm also exhausted but can't seem to sleep more than a few hours at a time. My mouth is dry and my eyeballs feel like sandpaper. And to top it all off, just looking at my husband arouses me. I'd actually enjoy that side effect if I could stay off the toilet. I'm gonna try to stick it out in hopes that this will pass. I know I need to give it some time."

For Major Depressive Disorder "So I’ve taken Wellbutrin once before because my antidepressant (Prozac) was giving me sexual dysfunction. So my doctor said that I’ll add on Wellbutrin to see if that gets better. And I never really noticed a difference with that. But this medication gave me tinnitus (ringing in the ear) and a headache that drove me insane. Oh, also it made me more depressed."

For Depression "I was on Celexa for a couple of years, but I flatlined and felt like a zombie. My psychiatrist switched me over to Wellbutrin. I was nervous to take it because it works with different neurotransmitters. Celexa works with serotonin while Wellbutrin works with dopamine. It felt like my eyes were being pulled up by magnets, it was hard to look forward, and I was dizzy. This subsided after a few weeks. My anxiety became way worse. Every day, I felt like all of my nerves were exposed. I overreacted to everything and caused a lot of fights. Then came the suicidal thoughts. I've struggled with these thoughts when I was off of meds, so to be flooded with them again was scary. These thoughts were invasive and more intense than I've ever experienced. Luckily, I was able to realize that it was just the medication, so I switched to Zoloft. Please be careful if you take Wellbutrin. If you get those dark thoughts, remember it is not you, it's the meds."

"I was put on Wellbutrin for anxiety. It started well, I noticed a decrease in appetite and some shakiness within the first 2 days, but not much else. The 3rd day, my ears began ringing. Later that night, I found myself hyperfocusing on a specific task and I completely forgot everything else around me, almost like I disassociated. When I came to and realized I forgot where I was and what I was doing, this resulted in 2 panic attacks that night. The next day, I didn’t feel anything like myself, I felt confused and completely disoriented. I found myself struggling to focus on conversations or anything really. When I was driving at night, I was so sensitive to lights and confused red lights for brake lights. Worst anxiety of my life, more panic attacks. I decided to stop taking it. Since then, symptoms have disappeared. I understand that the side effects could have decreased over time of being on the medication, but it wasn’t worth it for me. The drug has a different effect on everyone, but it did not work for me."

For Depression "Once I started this medicine, I would be woken up by my stomach pains. This medicine made me queasy and sick for hours on end. This is a little TMI, but it gave me terrible diarrhea ALL DAY LONG. I had little to no appetite, which was kinda exciting but not when I literally needed food in my stomach to calm the pain. Did not make my depression any better; honestly, it worsened my anxiety and made me much less social. All I can say is - I will be going back to my good ole Cymbalta!"

For Depression "Started this med 3 weeks ago for anxiety. Have had bad constipation and bowels are black in color. My stomach is bloated, pains in my stomach, anxiety is worse, hair is falling out, memory problems, nasty, agitation, get upset and scream, feels like I have a lump in my throat. Just worse now since taking this med. I stopped it today and feel much better. Don't want to take this med any longer, it's not for me. It's really bad for my body."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I have been suffering from anhedonia for 1.5 years. I don't feel happy, but I'm not angry or experiencing any other emotion. I heard about Wellbutrin, and I had some hope, so I asked my doctor to give it a chance. Day 26, I feel horrible. I felt the same 2 weeks ago. I thought these side effects would go away and it would be my lifesaver because it's a dopamine inhibitor. I was hoping it would work, but now I feel completely hopeless. I don't know if I should give it more time or get off this drug, it is my last resort. Other antidepressants just make me feel worse, Wellbutrin too, but some days I've been feeling a little hope and more energy. I don't know what to do anymore."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I want to preface this with a note: we all react differently to medicine; my experience is not indicative of Wellbutrin itself, nor is it premonitory of how you will react to the medication. My psychiatrist prescribed 150 mg of Wellbutrin at the beginning of July. He added it to my Prozac 40 mg to help with some major depression I've been having as of late. When I began the drug, I took it in the morning because it is supposed to give you energy. I immediately felt like a zombie! I could not function -- everything was in slow motion. I walked as though I was drunk, I forgot words while speaking, I was forgetful in the midst of doing a task. It got really bad when I was driving so slowly and swerving into the curb. I dropped from 150 mg to 100 mg. It did not make a difference. That day, my mother took me to the hospital. I was given fluids and immediately stopped. I've been off of it for about a week and a half, and I am feeling so much better."

For Depression "I went on this medication for some low motivation. Within a few days, I had more energy and felt like I had a lot more motivation. It took me a very long time to adjust. Honestly, I was on it for 3 months and I'm not sure I ever did adjust. I got the shakes, twitched a lot (while awake and in my sleep), and constantly felt full of nervous energy. I had trouble sleeping and couldn't reach orgasm (I'm a woman). I know this drug is used to treat sexual side effects of SSRIs, but that's what it did to me. It actually made me more depressed to be on this medication. I also got awful brain fog where I'd forget what I was saying in the middle of a conversation. I felt like an idiot! Everyone is different, and I know people who have benefitted from Wellbutrin. This is just my experience. I went off of it and already feel much better."

For Depression "I was on Prozac 20 mg, and because it made me feel so good, I would just stop taking them on my own accord, which made me crash. I decided instead of taking them seriously and continuing to take them, I would try Wellbutrin. The first two weeks were awful. I had ringing in my ears to the point where I wished I was deaf. My body was incredibly sore for no physical reason. I felt huge pressure and anxiety in my chest. I stopped working out and didn't want to do anything but lay in bed and watch Netflix, which is so not me. I am now 3-4 weeks in, and I don't have much anxiety, BUT I feel like I developed OCD. I can't stop cutting the tip of my tongue on my teeth, and it hurts. My mouth is so dry. I can't even put on eyeliner because it's like I have Parkinson's disease. I am going to switch back to Prozac today."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I was prescribed Wellbutrin after being hospitalized in April of 2017. When I got there, that's the first medicine they gave me to try. The only difference I noticed was that I was having more trouble sleeping than I normally had without the medicine. I had no faith in this working for me because they told me they wanted me to stop smoking as I was 17 at the time (I turned 18 in May, it's the end of March 2018 right now, I'm almost 19 atm), and Wellbutrin makes smoking taste horrible, so it's definitely effective for smoking cessation. As far as depression, I'd say it helped for a little while, but soon I needed a higher dosage, and then after a little bit, my suicidal thoughts were back, so I quit taking them. Overall, it wasn't very effective in my case."

For Major Depressive Disorder "I was prescribed this drug treatment in the 1997-2000 years, and it caused me to end up in the ER due to a spontaneous, unthinkable suicide attempt by taking an overdose dose of Abilify (15 tabs!). As soon as I swallowed it, I asked myself, “What did I just do?!?!? Then I didn’t know what was going to happen!?! My friend called an ambulance, and I ended up in the ER!?!? When the doctor asked me why I did it- I told him that I didn’t know?!? I had no thoughts of suicide, and I had no idea what I was doing, and I was not going to be a danger to myself because of that!?! I had to go to outpatient therapy for several weeks!"

For Depression "Although the medication worked well for the first few weeks, I began to notice my aggression becoming more pronounced, and I got irritated much easier than normal. After two months, my doctor increased the dosage, even though I told her how I was feeling and acting. I decided to try it anyway to see if things got any better and got an answer within two days of the increase... NO!! It made me extremely mean, short-tempered, very aggressive, and extremely judgmental of others, all of which were NOT normal behaviors for me. I get the same results with Adderall for my adult ADHD and have decided to never touch either of these medications again... EVER! It may work well for others, but is not for me."
