"I had 2 surgeries down in my lady parts. A lot of stiches. I woke up in recovery and surprisingly NO PAIN!! I felt pressure and a sort of discomfort. I could handle it. Wear the armband (in case you have to go to the ER, it alerts the staff you have had this medicine), for 96 hours. Why aren't ALL doctors using this??? A long acting Numbing injectable in the site where you had surgery. This is a absolute Miracle Medicine. I have had NO side effects. Ask your doctor about this if you have to have surgery."

"I had a full rotator cuff tear, also ended up w/a slap tear and bone spurs to be operated on in my right shoulder. I read horror stories about pain management after this surgery, so I was naturally very anxious. I asked my doctor about Exparel. She had never used it, but agreed. I woke up from surgery and my whole arm was numb, yes my hand too, but I’ll pay that price any day. It continued to stay numb all the way thru my first therapy appt, in which my therapist was shocked that I couldn’t feel a thing as he manipulated my arm. That was 5 days after surgery. I was able to use very little pain medicine once I got feeling back. I am so thankful this worked so well for me. I just wish it had for everyone, bc it can be a game changer."

"I just had a hemorrhoidectomy and the post operative pain is negligible. I am taking other pain medication for cancer but so far I haven’t needed much. This is relatively new can’t wait until they enhance the technology and find a way to use it for chronic pain"

"Absolute waste of money. I had two exact procedures done. One without exparel and the other one with and it made no difference. I spent an additional $650 thinking it would lessen the pain and it did absolutely nothing you might as well just take a Tylenol"

"I received Exparel at the conclusion of my recent hemorrhoidectomy. The drug provided incredible relief, in the form of ZERO pain for 48 hours, which allowed me to forgive narcotics. However, the drug was administered on a Friday afternoon but did not activate until early Sunday morning. Side effects: Yes. When the dose(s) was activated during its sequence, I felt the following: difficulty focusing, confusion, lightheadedness, a sense of euphoria, difficulty urinating, and breathing issues. Fortunately, all were very mild and by laying down in a cool room and controlling my breathing I overcame the symptoms which lasted 30-40 minutes. I would use it again, incredible product!!!"

"I was given at Exparel while under sedation for surgery. I had a very negative reaction to it upon waking up in the hospital. It made my entire left side go numb including parts of my face (injection site was my pelvis), my limbs were shaking uncontrollably, it made me extremely warm then cold - my temperature wouldn’t regulate correctly, it caused ringing in my ears, weakness and a sensation like I was going to die. It was akin to a very severe anxiety attack. The worst part is that I am five days post-op and it is still happening even though the drug is supposed to be completely out of my system by now. I wish someone had told me ahead of time that this was going to be administered to me."

"Exparel was a huge blessing for me when I had hemorrhoidectomy and also helped with the pain of my spinal cord stimulator explant. For the explant they used it in the outer areas of the surgery not in the spinal cord area but for the outer parts of the incisions. Pain control was so much better with Exparel vs. without it. I never want to ever have any surgery without having Exparel. I did require some opioid pain relief but thoroughly believe that if I had not had the Exparel the pain from both surgeries would have been much worse requiring much more opioid medication. I think the healing actually went quicker for me because I didn't come out of surgery in extreme pain and felt like moving other parts of my body sooner which I think brought better blood circulation to the surgical sites."

"I had a rhinoplasty with turbinate reduction this past Friday and my doctor used Exparel on me. When I woke up I had no pain or discomfort and it wasn't until Monday (just about 72 hours after surgery) that I started to feel a headache and some pressure. I honestly couldn't believe the results. To not have any pain after a rhinoplasty was so surprising to me, and now I am just dealing with swelling/bruising that is regular. I did supplement Exparel with Percocet, so I'm sure the two together were helpful, but I wouldn't go through any other procedure like this without it."

"I had four wisdom teeth and one molar removed at one time. I paid the extra fee for the so called long lasting numbing Exparel. If the oral surgeon used it you couldn't prove it by me. I had absolutely no effect on my pain. It was useless. Complete waste of $300. I almost ended up in the emergency room with the pain. I don't recommend this product."

"Horrible drug! Please ask your doctor before any surgery if this will be used. It is a neurotoxin and will destroy your nerves! Nerves should never be deadened for that long! 2 years post abdominal surgery and still have neurologic/muscular problems and there are no doctors to help you, as they don’t know how to help! Scary!!!"

"Was given Exparel for shoulder surgery along with another block. I was told it would last up to 96 hours. Following surgery, when I woke up I experienced breakthrough pain and was given Fentanyl before leaving the surgery center. I was home by 11:00 and still experiencing pain so took my prescribed Dilaudid. Less than 11 hours after surgery, the block had completely worn off. I experienced significant pain (10/10) that night and the next morning. The surgery center called and after speaking with me about my pain suggested I call my doctor, who then prescribed morphine sulfate (immediate release) which is now helping. Haven’t had a BM since Sunday (and this is Wednesday). Worked no better for me than my normal block (I’ve had 9 wrist/hand surgeries and this is my 10th surgery in my torso area). 1/10. Not a good experience."

"I was given this medication for rotator cuff surgery. It has now been 24 hours and I have experienced absolutely no pain. I actually feel like I haven't even had any surgery because I have no pain. I was told before the injection that it does not work for everyone. I feel blessed. It has worked for me. I highly recommend receiving this injection."

"Exparel is INCREDIBLE. I have chronic pain that cannot be cured. If I have an injection of Exparel, I feel fantastic for days. Regular bupivicaine lasts only 12 hours - I am on day 2 of Exparel now and my pain is 1 out of 10. It is usually a 6! Loving this right now, but worried how bad I will feel when it wears off."

"Was given Exparel as a “nerve block” during rotator cuff/shoulder surgery. Was told it was last up to 96 hours however I was pain-free for only about 20 hours. During that time, my arm got very hot and I had lots of twitching. The worst part was the dead feeling in my arm, it was completely dead and just hung in my sling and it was falling out of my sling. I even hit my shoulder on a door frame because I couldn’t feel it! In my opinion, it was not worth it to have this injection and I would refuse it a second time."

"Was injected with Exparel after my fistulectomy surgery and I've been pain-free since waking up from surgery 14 hours ago and counting. Honestly, it has worked so well that I forget I even had surgery. Somewhat worried about what the pain will be like when it wears off."

"Terrible drug! It was given without my knowledge during a laparoscopy…injected into my hypogastric nerves during surgery. My lower body up to my chest was numb for over a month. I still have many neurologic symptoms and it has been 2 years since this was injected into me. Not enough data on this drug! You never want your nerves deadened for that long! Horribly life changing!"

"I was given exparel for abdominal surgery and it worked great. However, 12 hours later the effects wore off, and I was in extreme pain. Does the $3 generic last 8 hours? Not worth it. I had a max dose."

"266 mg Exparel. Bilateral inguinal hernia. From recovery room to 24 hours later my pain has been 8-9 out of 10. Had to ask for a pain killer immediately in recovery. Another (opioid) before leaving surgical center. By time I got home I couldn't barely walk from pain. I would never use this med again. I had laprascopic gall bladder surgery 2 years ago. Extra strength tylenol. This laprascopic procedure, which was less invasive, I've had 4-5 times the pain. I believe exparel contributed somewhat to it."

"I had a hip labral tear repaired and resurfacing of my femur. I waited for the pain to show up after surgery and it never did. I did not have to take a single pain pill which was especially helpful since I have mast cell disease and narcotics can cause serious allergic reactions. This medication is amazing."

"I have Post Laminectomy single level with wires and pain stimulator removed. This non-opioid drug did nothing for my post operative pain. I experienced the following symptoms: extreme pain lasting over 24 hrs,?rapid heart rate, elevated blood pressure, constipation, dark stool, pain on my right side in the area of my gallbladder, hepatic duct, common bile duct, and pancreas."

"I am just now 96 hours after double hernia repair done robotically in a trauma surgical center. Fantastic care and the first use of Exparel on me worked fantastically. Other than a Tylenol once in awhile, I have had no need for an opioid pain relief. I required some intestinal rearrangement and hernia patches resulting from a fall. Due to cancer and an accident, I have had a number of surgeries over the years that I I'm sure I could have benefited from Exparel. One of those specifically would have been rotator cuff repair, done on a very damaged shoulder. I've been using that pain for my gauge as a number 10 on the pain scale for many years. I certainly will ask for it again if I require further surgery. Very effective for me."

"I had Exparel Slow Release to remove anal warts. I was told it is a topical anesthetic that should provide relief from pain for three days. And it did exactly that! I had zero pain, and I know what anal pain feels like as I'd had two anal fistulectomies in the past. I haven't studies the specs for this medication, but it performed exactly as was explained to me prior to the surgery."

"I was given Exparel after a Pilonidal cyst removal and lift procedure. It has worked great. I only took one opioid pain pill just in case the first night of sleep. I did not even need it. I never took another and had absolutely no pain. Although it’s 7 days since surgery I am still numb. It has worn off some but still think I’m about 50 percent numb. Hope it eventually wears off."

"I was given Exparel as a nerve block for a Bunionectomy. This was a miracle drug for me. I could not feel my foot at all for 3 days and it didn’t fully wear off for a full 7 days. This is a very painful surgery and this medicine was a god send to get me over the worst days. I only had to take a few narcotic pills and was able to toss the rest. I highly recommend this medicine for this particular surgery!"

"I had Exparel administered during my wisdom teeth removal, and its effect was/is truly magical. I had 4 teeth removed, for more context. I had some pain post-op on the first day, and very tolerable pain the second and third day. I’m on my fourth day and the pain is virtually nonexistent. I have been taking ibuprofen as directed, which I’m sure helps, but my recovery experience has been far, far smoother than anyone else I’ve known who has had the procedure done and had not used Exparel. I’m so happy I didn’t have to take an opioid, and that it was so effective on its own."
