Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "I hate this medication (I had an adverse reaction). A couple of years back, my psychiatrist gave me a free trial of Rexulti to replace my antidepressant (I don’t remember what mg). I took it for about a week and a half before I started to have strong, consistent suicidal ideations. A week later, I put myself into a psychiatric hospital with the support of my therapist and psychiatrist. The hospital didn’t have any Rexulti, so I was forced to come off of it. After a week or so without taking it, the suicidal thoughts started to fade, and I was back to the depressed-but-not-suicidal state I had been in beforehand. I would give Rexulti 0/10 if I could."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "I’ve been taking Rexulti for about 6 months now. I’m presently taking 1 mg/day. This medication has changed my life. I was on an SSRI (Zoloft then Paxil) for almost 18 years. I had severe breakthrough depression with menopause about 5 years ago, and the SSRIs were no longer working. In the past 5 years, I have been on numerous medications including atypical antipsychotics, mood stabilizers (Lithium, lamotrigine), Lexapro, and Latuda. Nothing was helping, and I was so low I was having persistent suicidal thoughts at one point. My psychiatrist started me on Rexulti on a whim. I feel like a new person. More energy and zest for life. I also take Seroquel for sleep, which I’m hoping to wean, and Adderall 20 mg in the morning. This combo works well for me. It is an expensive drug, but you can print an online coupon from the Rexulti website for a maximum $15 monthly copay with insurance."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Depression "Ok, so I've been on Rexulti for a few years now for depression. This is the best advice I can give someone thinking about taking this medication. Currently, I am on 2 mg, I take it for major depression. My doctor started me off on 1 mg. It seems like I had side effects from the drug in the beginning: dry mouth, weight gain, irritability, and fatigue. So I started taking it at night. After about 2 weeks, I then switched to morning again. Side effects went away except for me eating :(. Overall, it's a good drug if it helps. I would recommend it. DOWNSIDE: do not just stop taking the drug! You must taper down on the medication. You will have effects if you just stop taking it. For example, moody as heck. Then it takes a few days to build the medicine back up in your body for it to go away."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Depression "I have been on citalopram (Celexa) 40 mg for years, and it just wasn't working anymore. My psychiatrist added the Rexulti 0.5 mg three weeks ago, and I have never felt better! I take them both at bedtime. The only real side effect is nausea sometimes in the middle of the night. I am so grateful to be able to live again. My doctor has given me a month’s more samples while they work to try and get my insurance to accept this new medication. I hope they do because my pharmacy quoted me $1,000 (not a typo) for my prescription!"

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "I have tried this medication as an add-on to Lexapro twice in the past year. Both times, I felt an immediate (within 3 days) change/improvement. I started at 0.5 mg and stopped because of weight gain. After several months of unrelenting depression and strong suicidal thoughts/intentions despite exercise and avoiding alcohol, I knew I had to try it again. Now I am on 1 mg and feel quite good. I am sleeping pretty much through the night, except when hormonal, but that has been a consistent experience. Overall, I do use less Xanax on this medication. My appetite has increased but has leveled off. My physical exercise routine has also increased, so I would say that I've only gained about 3-4 lbs total, whereas before I had gained about 7-9 lbs previously."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "Probably the best antipsychotic I have ever been. I have only responded to Abilify, and yet I still had some intense residual depressive, obsessive-compulsive, insomnia, and anxiety symptoms not allowing me to function well half the time—the side effects of Abilify were also too much. My doctor told me about Rexulti and how it is a better and cleaner version of Abilify, therefore, I agreed to try it. I have now been on it for a year, and it has helped me in ways that I am glad that I switched to it. The only issue is that it still causes weight gain and diabetes, but these are less severe than on Abilify. It is worth dealing with those side effects because now I no longer have insomnia and can function thanks to Rexulti."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "I was on Rexulti (Nov/Dec 2019) for 28 days. The first week I felt great, I had more energy, not staying in bed for 16 hours a day. My mood was back to being positive, more outgoing, and sarcastically funny. Then I began to feel very short-tempered and frustration that got stronger every day. My family was telling me I was acting and talking differently. I at one point sent an email to my brother saying if I ever won the lottery, I was going to hire someone to 'take care' of a few family members and that he didn't have to worry, he wasn't on my list. I would never talk like this. Another email from me to my psychiatrist earned me a surprise visit from the police to include a complimentary trip to the Crisis Center and then to a hospital for 48 hours. You have to be careful in the words you use in an attempt to be sarcastically funny - it would have been funny 20 years ago, but not in the world we live in today."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Schizophrenia "Go ahead and take this medicine if you want to mentally feel better, but be prepared to gain 30 pounds and never be able to lose it. Honestly, I don't recommend it at all because the weight gain has ruined my life. Good luck in whatever you decide to do."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "I've been anxiety-ridden since 7 years old with depression. Would not take psych meds until I finally had a severe breakdown with agoraphobia. Zoloft helped, but 5 years ago at 56, I needed inpatient care and outpatient programs. I tried over 15 additional meds, nothing worked. Abilify a bit, but too hyper. Rexulti has been great. Gets rid of anxiety fast and depression too. It does stimulate my appetite, and I've gained 20 lbs."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Schizophrenia "Since starting Rexulti a week and a half ago, I've been feeling more motivated, I have more energy, and I feel less irritable. I'm studying more productively. I haven't been experiencing intrusive thoughts - obviously, I can remember what they were, therefore they still enter my mind, but they're not distressing, and they don't linger. So, ultimately, I feel 'normal' again, i.e., without illness or side effects. (I'm still overweight, and I still procrastinate, but since beginning this new treatment, I have the motivation and energy to transform to the person I want to be.)"

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "Rexulti took time to start working, and now I feel better than I have for a while. I've lost my parents and my ESA in the last 6 years. The downside is the weight gain. I've gained 20 lbs in a short period of time. I can't afford to gain weight, I'm already big. I eat the same things, I don't snack. In comparison, before Rexulti, I ate more than I do now and didn't gain weight. It's the weight gain that makes it problematic."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "I'm taking this for bipolar 2 with major depressive disorder that has been treatment-resistant for over 5 years. Rexulti is the first drug that has ever worked for me. I have tried virtually everything previously, with things making me a zombie, worse than I was, or simply nothing at all. Rexulti has been a miracle drug for me. It does give me insomnia, so I'm going to try to switch to taking it in the morning to see if that helps. I am on a 2 mg dose."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "I was put on half a mg for a week, then titrated to 1 mg. Everything was cool until about the 3rd or 4th week I started feeling overwhelmed and ridiculously tired to where I couldn't keep my eyes open. Then it progressed to full-blown anxiety in my POV. I never thought it could be Rexulti until I finally saw my doc, who took me off straight away after seeing how anxious I was. I can hardly deal with my son or life. He sadly has to calm himself as noise and lots of energy around me exacerbate my anxiety. I've been completely off for a day, but I'm wondering how long it will be before I'm not anxious. I hope not the 2-4 weeks my doc said. I can't keep living with all this anxiety and tiredness and wanting to cry all the time."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "I've just started the starter pack of Rexulti. I am on day 3. It is replacing Abilify in my meds. I feel a lift in the depression, however, I am experiencing some agitation and anxiety. I'm hoping this improves. It is affecting my dreaming, they aren't nightmares, just very vivid and strange. I am hopeful for this medicine if we can just get the agitation to cease."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Depression "0.5mg I felt like my life was given back to me. I felt the urge to stop drinking and going back to the gym. I was making plans for the future, even thinking straight. I felt 30 years younger again. Loved shopping again... can't say enough. Did get some cherry stools but I had eaten cherries. I actually lost weight."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "I never thought I would feel alive again. I have struggled with major depressive disorder for six years. I’ve been on many medications hoping each time it would be the “magic pill.” When I started Rexulti, it took about two weeks for me to feel the positive impact of the medication. I feel present and a part of life again. I can get out of bed and do things and be happy! I am grateful for Rexulti and how it has helped me."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "I have Bipolar II with major depressive and borderline disorder, and I started on .5 mg per day for two weeks. I couldn't handle it, it brought on a lot of side effects. Once my doctor reduced it to .25 mg/day, I am feeling very good. The side effects are almost gone. It has helped immensely improve my day-to-day life with depression, which was causing anxiety and other triggers for my mood disorders. I was on Lamictal and Trileptal before this. I switched entirely to Rexulti 6 weeks ago. A great part of this is that it's quick to help with depression. A bad part: tolerance is a bit tricky. Restlessness, digestive issues, and insomnia were horrible when I was on the wrong dose. Also, hunger is huge. I see why people have gained weight. I don't think it's like SSRIs, where it screws with your metabolism. It just makes you hungry. Try to get a schedule down for eating and only eat at those times normal amounts of food. This helped me avoid weight gain. Highly recommend."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "Rexulti is amazing in two categories: 1) depression and 2) massive weight gain. The weight gain does NOT come off when you stop Rexulti. Four years later, I’m still struggling with the 40 lbs I gained."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "I believe this drug has been the best to treat my depression, bipolar, and PTSD. I went from having suicidal ideations on a daily basis, and now I only have intrusive thoughts on occasion. I would recommend trying this drug if you get a chance. I tried Seroquel, Abilify, and all they did was make me tired and gain weight. Rexulti has been a great addition to my Lamictal to help balance my bipolar depression. I give Rexulti a 9/10."

About a month in, I began having intrusive thoughts and had to be hospitalized. They took me off the Rexulti, and the intrusive thoughts went away after about two days."

Rexulti has given me my life back, and I actually want to leave the house and do things. Great medication, not for everyone, though. I also did gain 30 pounds. Only downside."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Major Depressive Disorder "I have bipolar disorder, MDD, and GAD. I tried Abilify as an add-on, and it made me so tired all the time, and I gained weight. We switched to Rexulti, and I immediately felt fabulous. I was stable and optimistic! Soon after, I noticed I was eating nonstop. It was like an addiction. I struggle with weight as it is. I take Vyvanse for ADHD, and it helps curb my appetite a little, but the Rexulti still makes me want to eat all the time. Also, I've noticed it makes me really restless and irritable. I think it actually induces hypomania in me. I end up having major outbursts of anger and rage. It's even taken a toll on my marriage. I had to stop. I feel a little depressed, but it's better than being out of control."

Rexulti (brexpiprazole) for Depression "I have been on Rexulti for approximately a month now, starting at the 0.5 mg dose and now I am titrating up to 1 mg. I’m on an 8-day cycle of alternating between the 0.5 mg and 1 mg, respectively. This medication was prescribed to me as an add-on to Persistent Depressive Disorder (dysthymia) by my psychiatrist. I am also prescribed Wellbutrin XL 300 mg and Cipralex 20 mg. This cocktail seems to help me enough to get up for work and continue my duties in home life as a husband and father without considering killing myself. Before I was given Rexulti, I was semi-suicidal daily, so I guess it is helping. It is supposed to stabilize mood and give me an extra boost to get going, however, I do feel somewhat sedated while on this drug, especially on the days I take 1 mg, which to me is not a bad thing. I would rather feel okay and sedated vs. sad but energetic."

I can do things again with ease and not steady. I couldn't even get outta bed most days now I'm up early I shower and take care of myself, see friends, do hobbies like painting writing and exercising. I laugh again and it felt like a light switch turned on in my brain. Very thankful for this medication. I take along with lamictal."
