For Postmenopausal Symptoms "I had horrible side effect symptoms from black cohosh! Bloating, farting, feeling like I needed to poop all the time, I even accidentally sharted my pants! My breasts were sore and a little bit of blood came out of my vagina."

For Postmenopausal Symptoms "I’m taking black cohosh in the Estroven form for about 5 days for peri-menopause irritability and starting of night sweats. Yesterday, I began to have extreme cramping, bloating, and gas. I couldn’t understand why because since juicing celery every day for 4 months, all of my gastric problems went away completely. Today is the second day of this unexplained gas, cramping, bloating, and pain, although it’s better than yesterday, I am thinking it is very likely this medicine. Plus, I also feel it’s messing with my psyche, I’m much more sensitive and subdued, and that’s not me. I’m going to stop this right away and see if I get better. Will let you know."

For Postmenopausal Symptoms "I had a hysterectomy at 48, and for the first couple of years after the surgery, I suffered mild menopausal symptoms. For a year now, the hot flashes have been so intense, and emotionally, I occasionally experience overwhelming sadness. Because of my health concerns regarding HRT therapy, I decided to try an herbal supplement containing black cohosh. I took two capsules before bedtime as directed. The next day, I was fine. I again took two at bedtime, however, the second day was much different. I was extremely bloated and experienced mild diarrhea and 'crazy' flatulence! I honestly don’t believe I have ever experienced so much gas in my life! I’m so happy that I didn’t have to go anywhere. Black cohosh is no longer an option for me. Sadly, I’ll just have to soldier through this challenging period called menopause."

For Herbal Supplementation "I started black cohosh 1 week ago for perimenopause and just realized, after thinking I was experiencing a kidney infection or maybe even about to pass a stone, that it is from this supplement! I've never had any issues with either my entire life, but something has been very wrong. Very nauseous, daily throbbing headaches, and extremely bloated! I am so thankful something told me to look this up! In the trash they shall go!!!!"

For Postmenopausal Symptoms "I took 150 mg a day for about a week when I woke up one morning with debilitating dizziness. I could barely move all day. The next day was a tiny bit better, but this continued for several days. I thought I had vertigo! I was a little nauseous, so dizzy, headaches, felt heavy, was retaining water, my stomach was bad, and I was so bloated (the way I used to feel before my period). I finally realized that it must be the black cohosh, and sure enough, read about all the possible side effects that I didn’t know about. I stopped taking it about 5 days ago, and I’m very slowly starting to feel better. If you are someone who is sensitive to medication, DO NOT TAKE THIS!! It literally made me sick."

For Postmenopausal Symptoms "I have been on this product (Estroven) for 2 weeks. I know, it says that hot flashes will stop after a month, so stick to it, BUT I then began to have knife-sharp cramping and bloating like a period. I started having extremely dark and cloudy urine and, on top of that, anxious thoughts and moodiness, like I was on my period!!! I couldn’t understand it, I actually just thought I was getting sick until I read the side effects of Black Cohosh (NIH health black-cohosh). I thought with it being all natural, I would have a good experience. No, I didn’t. And it can cause liver damage! No, thank you!"

For Herbal Supplementation "I began taking a compound supplement with black cohosh because of a recent PCOS diagnosis and hot flashes. I immediately noticed the lack of hot flashes and night sweats, but the side effects were too intense to continue use. After 1 month, my weight increased significantly, I felt heavy and tired, I was constantly bloated, and my usual constipation worsened. I would not recommend taking black cohosh unless it is prescribed to you. For reference, I am 31 and have never had issues with weight gain in the past."

"I figured I would try these as they say they are helpful in balancing hormones. I am not in menopause but am 48. It took me less than a month and a half to realize these pills were causing me weight gain. My whole body just puffed up and I looked super bloated, everywhere. This is not something I'm used to. I stopped taking them about 2-3 weeks ago, and I have lost that unexpected bloat and extra weight gain. I'm not taking these anymore. I need it to work with me, not against me."

Black cohosh for Postmenopausal Symptoms "Perfect once you can get past the diarrhea, which doesn't last. Hot flushes have gone, which is good as I work nights. I'm a little bit bloated but can deal with that."

For Postmenopausal Symptoms "I'm looking at these comments as I have a bloated, heavy abdomen since starting b.c. I regret taking it, as I think maybe it's that that's making me feel so ugly. I have not eaten more, but I have put on weight. So I am definitely getting off it and off to see my gyno for HRT. Sod the natural spenny route. The sites I found this cure for hot flushes certainly did not mention the bloated, heavy, fart-making effects that black cohosh has. If I wasn't feeling depressed before taking this, I certainly am now!!! All the best to you from a 55-year-old bag."
