For High Blood Pressure "I was diagnosed with genetic high blood pressure at 21. My doctor put me on atenolol, and it helped tremendously with my migraines. At first, I thought it worked pretty well and hadn't had any side effects. Fast forward several years, and I was always tired, suffered from anhedonia and depression, had decreased libido, and could never get a 'runner's high' from working out. I'm off of it now, and I feel alive again. The depression and anhedonia have lifted, I enjoy working out, and am myself again. It controlled my blood pressure well but at the expense of losing myself, it just wasn't worth it."

For Anxiety "Very helpful for performance anxiety when taken together with 0.5mg Xanax, no more racing heart, palpitations, sweating hands, running out of the room feeling when doing a presentation in front of a group of people, better than propranolol since this does not cause wheezing in me."

For Anxiety "Atenolol put me back in the game. Prior to having this prescription, I could only rarely drive across bridges. My work output was low because I had too many panic attacks to even go to work more than 2 days a week. Anyway, it's been great!"

For High Blood Pressure "I left a review on December 28, 2019, describing side effects from atenolol chlorothalidone 50-25. The worst side effect was extreme pain in my lower left leg and foot that is a gout-like symptom without redness or swelling and severely limited my ability to walk. I bought a pill cutter and reduced my dosage 25% about a week ago. My heart rate, which was in the high 40s in the morning, went up about 10 bpm. My bp also went up but seems to be returning to normal. My pain level dropped 50%, and I can walk again. I plan on reducing the dosage another 25% next week and hope to eventually stop taking this medication."

For Anxiety "I am a hypochondriac. I fear that I am dying of something all the time. I got on atenolol for my anxiety. I take it sometimes twice daily. I find that it lowers my heart rate, which calms me down since I am not worrying about what I could possibly have. I like it a lot. It is a nice, small pill that I take, and I have had a heart rate in the 50s from it... But it usually is more subtle and does not change the number of beats per minute that much. It makes me not worry about my pulse."

For High Blood Pressure "I am 49-year-old female. I have taken a combination of atenolol/chlorthalidone 50/25, plus another one for 11 years. The past four years, I have developed an unexplained itch (no outside rash), so I have to take an antihistamine every day, muscle/joint pain so bad that I take a pain pill for that. Swelling of hands and feet, dangerously low potassium levels. After reading over the side effects, I took myself off it. I have changed doctors and hopefully can get on something better. I have been off it for two weeks and I feel so good. No itching, no pain, no extra pills. Blood pressure is up but that can be taken care of. I think it had built up in my system to a toxic level. It did the job, just added too many other issues after so many years of use. Good luck, everyone."

For Anxiety "I was given this in 200mg for Mitral valve prolapse and Regurgitation. I had suffered with panic attacks and anxiety for years. What a gift for me... it, unbeknownst to me, treats anxiety... I no longer suffer from it. Nothing short of a miracle to me!"

For High Blood Pressure "Been on this drug since April this year. Within one hour of taking 12.5 mg, my heart beats so hard, skips around, and makes me feel like fainting. This lasts usually about an hour. I am constantly nauseous and anxious. I don’t know if this is from the drug or because it scares me so badly when I take it and react this way. I’ve had EKG, Holter, and Event monitors, and nothing shows except some PACs. Dr. says keep taking the 12.5 mg. I want off it."

For Anxiety "Atenolol worked fantastic for my performance anxiety. I had a big fear of public speaking, and whenever I needed to do a work presentation, my heart would beat so fast that I would get short of breath and wouldn't be able to speak properly, with a shaky voice, etc. My GP prescribed me 50 mg atenolol to take 1 hour before, and it works great, by removing the rapid heartbeat. Propranolol appears to be the most commonly prescribed medication for this issue, however, I found atenolol does the job perfectly."

Tenormin (atenolol) for Migraine Prevention "Twenty years ago (in my mid-thirties) I began to suffer from excruciating headaches. My doctor put me on progesterone cream, and there was some improvement. He thought that PMS was a contributing factor. I had a cardiac arrest when I was 38. Nothing was found to be wrong with my heart, but I was going through an emotional crisis at the time. The cardiologist put me on atenolol (25 mg/day; I now take 50 mg/day). I was put on the atenolol to keep my blood pressure down and keep my heart from beating too fast in emotional situations. The upside to all this is that I have not had but a couple of migraines in 20 years, and none since the dose was increased to 50 mg."

Tenormin (atenolol) for High Blood Pressure "Ever since taking this, my throat has been swollen. I told the doctor, and he doesn't think it's from the Atenolol, but it didn't start until then. It's hard to sleep at night. I have horrible eye pressure, and it makes me anxious. I'm hoping I can switch meds soon. It doesn't reduce my pressure much at all."

For Anxiety "I started taking atenolol (25 mg) right after Thanksgiving for heart palpitations. When I saw the doctor, he said I had sinus tachycardia, but I also have severe panic disorder. I can tell a big difference. I will have a palpitation every now and then, but my resting heart rate is down. I haven't noticed that my anxiety is down, so I still take my .25 Xanax when I need it. I also haven't noticed any side effects other than a little dizziness and a little chest tightness. It's kind of been a lifesaver because my palpitations would put me in a panic attack. I would recommend this to anyone that would benefit from it."

For High Blood Pressure "I've been on 25 mg of Atenolol for 10 years. Have heard in recent years that after such time they are finding if you're over 60, you should consider switching to another BB. That supposedly it (Atenolol) loses its effectiveness. Well when you start researching all the beta blockers currently on the market, you will find that most of them have side effects far more than Atenolol, and while I haven't had any real symptoms, I'm guessing I should 'stay put' with Atenolol unless it fails to do the job in the future."

For Anxiety "For those of you taking benzos and still have social anxiety, I highly recommend that you try out this drug, atenolol. It's a wonder drug. Yes, benzos are effective, but they kind of numb your ability to feel, so I did my homework and went for the atenolol, feeling superb."

For Anxiety "Don't normally respond to these reviews, but feel the need to share my experience from using atenolol. Not sure how it makes me feel, but my exercise life is the greatest. For years, I was unable to run or jog for long distances due to shortness of breath. Maybe a 1/2 to 1 mile max, and I'm totally exhausted. Now I jog/run 2 3/4 miles (about 11 laps), 4 times a week with energy to spare. Also, I suffered with anxiety going for doctor's visits, my pulse and heart rate were through the roof, especially when I was up for my yearly DOT certification physical. So again, not quite sure how this medication works, but it is truly Godsent."

Tenormin (atenolol) for High Blood Pressure "I took this medication for about a year. Felt severely depressed. Retained fluid. Switched medical insurance, which resulted in my seeing another doctor. He changed me from Tenormin to Accupril. After one month, my world changed. No longer hated to get out of bed each morning. Could now wear my wedding band on my ring finger. Tenormin was the wrong medicine for me. Wrote a letter to my prior doctor to let her know of my experience."

For High Blood Pressure "I was taking Atenolol for 3 years, 50 mg. I had constant tightness in the chest and never ever felt happy and well. I recently had a trip overseas and finished up in the hospital. My blood pressure was 120/80, but my heartbeat was down to 44. I was so dizzy I could not walk, enough was enough so I went to a doctor in Melbourne, Australia, who advised me to take Nitric Factor and reduce Atenolol to 25 mg. This I did, but I can assure you coming off this drug was a horror story. It took 2 months, and now I take one scoop of the Nitric Factor a day, and my blood pressure is about 126/70 with a pulse of 62. It was my decision to stop taking the 25 mg of Atenolol. I can now sleep and feel I have my life back again. I am 63 years old, and my initial blood pressure was 160/90 with pulse 70."

For Anxiety "I was prescribed Atenolol for severe panic episodes that consistently raise my heart-rate and BP throughout the day. Having cardiophobia certainly didn't help things. My panic attacks consisted of racing thoughts, a hammering heart, trembling hands, and hyperventilation. I was afraid to keep having panic episodes, which would further contribute to them. It was exhausting, scary, and debilitating. I was hesitant to take Atenolol, as it was a drug that directly affected my heart, but I'm glad I did because the relief is indescribable. Atenolol is great for controlling the physical symptoms of anxiety/panic episodes. It blocks adrenaline and keeps your heart rate and bp steady/under control- no matter what you're feeling. I figured out Atenolol had a half-life of 7-8 hours before it wears off. I take it once every 6-7 hours for full, round-the-clock, daily coverage (25mg doses). Works best on empty stomach. Been on for 3 years. Finally living life again."

For Anxiety "This has definitely removed that heavy chest feeling that leads to all-day anxiety and turning to panic attacks. I feel fine, and if I do happen to get an adrenaline rush from something, like a scare, it lasts a second and goes away, not leading up to an anxiety or panic attack. Keeps me very chill. Heart rate was usually 75 to 80. Now it’s 62 to 65 resting. I was prescribed 25 mg but took 12.5 mg for a week to get acclimated with the medication, and that did the trick for me. I had high blood pressure because of my anxiety that usually ran about 140/90, and now it’s 110/65. This medication has been a game changer for me as I am a firefighter. It keeps me level, and I don’t get overly excited, and in situations, it helps me stay focused on what I need to be focused on. If you have a hard time with anxiety meds like Zoloft and others, I highly suggest you try this."

For High Blood Pressure "Worst medication ever. Taking this medication was the biggest mistake I ever made, and I want to wean off it so bad. I wish I had a time machine to go back and stop myself from taking this poison. It has caused me severe depression, hair loss, worsening anxiety, and had a very negative effect on my sex life (I'm a 30-year-old newlywed). Drug companies will not be honest about side effects because BP meds are a huge moneymaker for them, as they are one of the most commonly prescribed meds... do your own research, I wish I had."

For High Blood Pressure "My back hurts all the time, it's hard for me to walk. My neighbor thought I was drunk, I never drink! I would feel like I was falling. Had too much pain. I just got off these pills, I'm still in pain. I'd get up in the morning, and all of a sudden, I was so tired and sleepy, so I'd go back to sleep. I felt like I was dying. Couldn't do much being so tired all the time and feeling like I was falling and drunk! Don't take this pill."

For High Blood Pressure "This is by far one of the worst meds for high blood pressure. This stuff gave me paranoia. I have never experienced anything like this in my life. And no, it didn't help my blood pressure, it made it higher."

For High Blood Pressure "On atenolol for 3 weeks after Dr changed meds from ramipril and amilodipine for BP. It caused joint pain, muscle cramps, brain fog, constipation, exhausted most of the time. I monitored my BP and found it did little to lower BP so I stopped for a day and started feeling better. I am going to try natural remedies for lowering my BP and start hitting the exercise and diet more. Seriously. I can’t carry on mixing a prescribed cocktail of drugs that may work for BP control but create havoc on the quality of life. I don’t recommend this drug."
