For Venous Thromboembolism "My wife was prescribed Eliquis. It's very expensive, $526 for a month's prescription in our case. We don't have prescription coverage, so we had to pay full price. Called Eliquis to see if they could help, but since we don't have a prescription policy, they said no help and we had to pay full price. After she took three tablets, the bleeding started from her rectum, and the doctor advised us to stop the Eliquis. What a waste of money when it is taking everything we have to keep up with her cancer care for her remaining few weeks."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "Wanted to add my review because this drug started a month of unnecessary doctor appointments, ER visits, and just plain mysterious symptoms. No doctor told me it was Eliquis and that it was 'safe' to take, but it was too late. I already developed side effects that lasted over a month. Shortness of breath, chest pains, headaches, numbness, and a weird feeling in my right and left sides, and I wasn't even on this medication long (about a week, 5mg x2). I can't imagine what it's doing to other folks who may or may not be sensitive to medications like this. I would suggest starting ANY meds on the lowest dose to check for tolerance first and go up from there. Do not make the same mistake as I did. I no longer trust my doctor who prescribed me this. Still suffering from weird symptoms even stopping for a month now. Eliquis is very dangerous for those who can't tolerate it. I was rather healthy before this."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I was on this med for eleven days and stopped. I'm incredibly healthy with only a blood clotting disorder and a history of several DVTs. I had doctors push for me to take this medication even though I protested. I even had one threaten to fire me as a patient, so I left and found a new doctor. This new doctor also pushed Eliquis! I really do think they are getting paid to prescribe it. I am experiencing dizziness and being out of breath often. Last night I even forgot how to turn on my phone. I'm only 45 years old. I'm refusing to take this med. Never, ever again. I'm returning to high-dose aspirin. Forgetting how to turn on my phone was the nail in the coffin. I'm glad I found this website. Good to know I'm not alone. This med is not worth it! Only eleven days and I'm gone."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was prescribed Eliquis 5 mg twice a day a week ago for 2 blood clots in my lower leg. I started having a gassy stomach and a full feeling even though I ate less, but I blamed that on eating more vegetables. My legs felt heavy in spite of my compression socks, but I blamed that on the socks. I had a headache and random itching, but I blamed that on my allergies. But after taking it for 5 days, my stomach hurt too much to eat. I drank some milk, which always helps my stomach, but I felt worse. I went ahead and took my usual dose that evening, then woke up at 2 a.m. with severe diarrhea. I had several more episodes that evening and the following day in spite of hardly eating anything. I had to skip work because I could not leave the house. I telephoned my doctor and left a message that I was not going to take Eliquis anymore, and I started taking a calcium antacid. That was yesterday. Today my stomach is still gassy and hurts, but the diarrhea, headache, and itching have stopped."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "After being on Eliquis 5 mg twice per day for a few weeks, I had severe bleeding from the nose, mouth, small abrasion on the arm, genital area, etc. Could not get an appointment with the doctor---nurse had me reduce it to 2.5 mg twice per day and told me I could cut the 5 mg tablets in half, which I later found should not be done apparently because cutting causes some loss of the tablet. Continue to have excessive bleeding with minor scrapes and cuts for long periods. Also, no appetite, no energy, difficulty keeping balance, and the sensation of the body 'swirling:' causing a fall off the commode with a huge bruise, increased loss of urine, and progressive decline in vision. Did not have these problems when on Coumadin some time ago."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I feel worse than when I was diagnosed with a PE. Awful chest pain, extreme knee, lower leg, and foot pain. Feel flushed and sweaty. Mild to moderate headaches. Weight gain of 15 pounds in 5 weeks, with water retention. Very easy to use, but not every medication is meant for everyone. 10 mg twice a day, then 5 mg twice a day. It has only been 5 weeks, and Dr. wants me on it for a lifetime. I would rather not wake up at all if this is how I have to live, which I already have canceled many activities due to the wretched way I feel from this medication. Meyers Squibb needs to be more open about reporting side effects instead of just pushing medications out on the market. FDA FOOLS!!!"

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "Within a month of taking Eliquis, I lost 95% of my ability to walk, lost my job, needed to be cared for, could barely make it to the bathroom. Months later, I am about half recovered, still can't work, can walk about a mile to 2 miles per day. The doctors at the hospital that prescribed me deny Eliquis can do that, but a doctor diagnosed me with drug-induced myopathy. I also know of two similar occurrences in my area. It's poison, take any other blood thinner! Not this, I went natural and had a good result, no PE, etc."

For Pulmonary Embolism "If a person doesn't mind going bald in less than 3 months, Eliquis is the blood thinner to use. I quit using it, and I've lost a good 80% of my hair. So very little left, it's heartbreaking! 3 months ago, I had very long, very thick hair. No more. Warfarin did the same to me, only not as bad as this! I certainly can't get back into business right now. I'm not certain what I'll do other than I'll never use Eliquis or Warfarin again!!!!!"

For Pulmonary Embolism "I started Eliquis on 12/2. All was fine at first, but now 26 days later, I am experiencing fatigue, anxiety, backache, and stomach issues. Spoke to my doctor yesterday, and he told me that these symptoms are NOT from this medication at all. But I do believe they are! Been to the ER, cardiologist, and everything normal. I was given Xanax because obviously they think I’m insane. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get off at the end of January when they do a follow-up CT scan to see if the clot has resolved."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis Prophylaxis after Knee Replacement Surgery "This drug has caused my tongue to swell and my teeth to rub against it, causing canker sores. The sores, after a month and $500.00 at a drugstore, never got better until I got off Eliquis. Go figure! I am better off without Eliquis and plan to never use this drug again."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I've been on Eliquis for more than 5 years [5 mg twice a day]. Worst medication devised by mankind! From bruises to discolored skin, and painful skin to the touch. If anyone, including myself, touches my skin, it causes me pain. My cardiologist says the benefits outweigh the side effects. Maybe he'll end up on it someday, and then if I'm still alive, he can get in touch with me with his experiences."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I had a TIA in October 2020 and was diagnosed with atrial fibrillation. I was prescribed clopidogrel and 60 mg Lixiana, an anticoagulant. Ended up in A&E with severe vaginal bleeding. Am now on 5 mg of Eliquis twice per day (no clopidogrel) and again after 2 weeks experienced heavy bleeding and ended up in the hospital for 3 days having a saline drip to 'irrigate' my bladder until my urine ran clear. Have not been fortunate to see a cardiologist (he has a waiting list of 38 weeks) but was under the care of a urologist in the hospital. My GP insists taking Eliquis is preventing me from having a stroke or heart attack. But I am frightened of these severe side effects and fear a cranial bleed. Feel tired and listless and as a formerly fit 74-year-old, now have no energy and trouble walking far. Am between a rock and a hard place and think this drug is lethal and not fully understood by the medics. There must be an alternative as life is not worth living like this."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "Absolutely despise this expensive drug with so many side effects. I experienced frequent urination (almost hourly at night), itchy red rashes on my forearm and upper arm, gas, easy bruising, and the onset of a mild headache for someone like me who NEVER got headaches. I was prescribed it for a lower leg DVT, initially 2-5 mg tablets twice a day for a week, then 1-5 mg tablet twice a day. After 6 weeks, I began a gradual tapering off (AMA, of course, against medical advice). My plan of action was to increase my daily water intake by 400% (used to just drink maybe 8 ounces, plus tea, juice, fruits, and veggies, which do count for water intake), reduce oily, fatty processed foods, and add additional speed walks throughout the day and early evening as my exercise regimen. I believe these changes will prevent any new blood clots. All side effects went away within 36 hours of stopping the medication."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "My cardiologist prescribed me Eliquis after my STEMI. 2.5 mg twice a day, then wound up in the hospital bleeding internally. Stopped the Eliquis, I was fine. Had a little AFib episode after bowel resection, cardiologist started Eliquis again in case of a clot. Wound up bleeding from my nose and into my ostomy bag. Filled the ostomy bag three times with blood. In the hospital, fighting for my life again."

The side effects stopped, and I've been off it for about a month. I don't advise anyone else to do this, but it worked for me so far."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "My mother (75) was taken off Warfarin after 20 years and prescribed Eliquis for convenience. Four days on Eliquis was more than enough. Just got back from the ER where we spent the night getting her checked out. She experienced tremors, fatigue, nausea, loss of balance, and basically felt like rubbish! This drug seems quite dangerous even though our cardiologist tells us she has successfully placed hundreds on the drug. I would not recommend it to anyone!"

I was only on it for 8 days and I got severe vertigo, and I was so winded that I couldn't even walk to the kitchen without feeling like I was gonna faint. My appetite was almost nonexistent. I will NEVER take this medicine again. The side effects are brutal."

For Thromboembolic Stroke Prophylaxis "My husband has Afib, hypertension, and high cholesterol. He had been on Coumadin for many years, never had any issues. He had a stroke on 12/3/20 and was in ICU, treated with heparin. On Dec 10, they started him on Eliquis. The evening of 12/11, he had a massive GI bleed. By 12/12, he was dead. Has anyone else out there had issues with treatment with this drug for stroke?"

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I was on Eliquis from 11/2019 to 7/2020. In the spring of 7/2020, I started having dizziness until I went to the ER and found out I was having TIAs. I was taken off that medication. It didn’t work for me, and there are no blood draws to prove it is even working. Now I am on baby aspirin and Coumadin, which is working. There should be some lab tests for that. I am still healing and just waiting for my right eye to heal."
