For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "While on this, I developed gastrointestinal problems, which my gastroenterologist put me on 35 mg Pepcid at night, it stopped then. Next, my ankles became swollen, my big toe swollen and hurt. I felt bad every AM. I decided to cut my dose in half AM and PM. I found myself feeling good again and wondered what it was, then it dawned on me I couldn't take 5 mg twice a day of Eliquis. Feel so much better."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Started taking Eliquis for a superficial blood clot (which was treated as a DVT), and within the first two weeks, my mouth started itching and developed hives on my extremities. My doctor told me to take Benadryl, which helped. However, I would have rather been taken off the medication instead of being put on additional medications."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I wound up with PE and DVT behind right knee. I was in the hospital for 72 hours and was prescribed Eliquis twice a day. I feel like I have lost me. I am in constant leg pain, my joints and lower back hurt so bad. After two weeks, my hair started falling out and I wound up with Edema. I had sudden weight gain with no diet change. I get dizzy and light-headed and fumble to speak at times. My body itches constantly. I just want off this drug!! I feel it is poisoning me and the shortness of breath and wheezing are scaring me. Please don't take this drug. I struggle every day to walk and fight through the pain."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I was on Eliquis for three weeks prior to a cardioversion. Made me feel tired, fatigued, no motivation. I would get a headache in the afternoon and wake up with a headache. Sometimes I felt woozy, almost dizzy. After the cardioversion, I went to 1/2 tablet for a week. The side effects were somewhat less, but still terrible. I didn't feel like doing anything, dishes piled up in the sink, house didn't get swept, I just felt like sitting. I stopped taking it, and the next day I felt great. Not doing this again."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Had double pulmonary embolisms, 1 clot in my heart, 1 in my stomach, and 1 DVT all at the age of 39. I was started on Xarelto. Didn't really have any side effects except losing my hair at an alarming rate. After about 3 months, my doctor switched me to Eliquis. Everything is fine except the hair loss has not let up after being on it for about a month now. Additionally, my platelet count is the highest it has ever been. Don't know if that is related, also had a dissected carotid artery. Really hoping the hair loss lets up soon."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I used it once for DVT while in the hospital. Experienced severe dizziness and headache on the left side of my head all day and an overall ill feeling. I decided not to take it. I used Xarelto in the past for PE with no major side effects and will most likely go back to this."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "The following problems occur when taking Eliquis: First, I want to mention that I am also on Sotalol since 2008 (taken alone, no side effects) 80 mg AM and 40 mg PM. It seems as if most drugs that I try out have an effect on the Sotalol, although the register says that there is no interaction between those drugs. Besides, it runs in the family that most of us (3) have a problem with almost any drug. Eliquis: headache, restless heartbeat, perspiring, dizziness, physical instability, general weakness, and shaky legs, etc. Generally, unhappy."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis, Prophylaxis "I am 30 years old and was placed on Eliquis 5 mg twice daily after a venogram with stenting in my left groin. Since I've been on Eliquis, it's done its job as far as thinning my blood, but I've also had some really nasty side effects from it. I have been bleeding vaginally for 16 days (was on my period when I started the medication and haven't stopped bleeding). I am diabetic and take multiple injections daily, so I look like someone has beat me up. I'm constantly nauseated, have no appetite, no energy, heart palpitations at times, cold all the time, night sweats, and pink-tinged urine. I'm waiting on a callback from the doctor to see about lowering the dose or changing the medication altogether."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I'm an 81-year-old female who was put on Eliquis for 5 weeks for AF, and I've had severe stomach pain. I've had a bad pancreas before this, but my pain has increased by at least 50% and lots of short-term memory loss. I'm looking at getting off this medicine because I just can't handle the stomach pain. Good luck to everyone."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I had a brief episode of AFib following severe pneumonia, so the docs put me on Eliquis and have insisted I stick with it despite the fact my AFib resolved on its own two weeks after multiple failed cardioversion attempts and a course of amiodarone. Now I find myself having dark, very bloody bowel movements accompanied by severe abdominal cramping. Yuck. I have IBS, but this is different. Time to insist my docs take me off of it?"

"I had one episode of A-Fib and ended up on Metoprolol and Eliquis. Paperwork supplied by the pharmacy said I should watch out for blood in urine. And it did appear... turned out I had a large kidney stone and had surgery for that. Then had surgery to remove diseased parathyroid... reason for kidney stone. Expected to start feeling better, but progressively got worse. I'm a healthy 69-year-old, but standing on my feet for too long was hard. Now, I have a knee that gets so sore and stiff I can barely get in or out of my car, I have trouble standing up from sitting, and have to stand and hold on for a minute to steady myself before walking... which I can only do slowly. I can barely go up and down stairs, and my washer/dryer are in the basement. I'm tired all the time - I can sit down and fall asleep for an hour or two or three. Fatigue, depression, sore joints, sore muscles, random pains, balance, no energy. I'm actually relieved to find a reason - apparently Eliquis side effects."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Started taking this in August 2023 for afib. I experienced extreme pain and weakness in my arms and shoulders, but didn't connect it to Eliquis. As an example of my issues, in spring 2023, I worked three days chainsawing trees and then stacked all the wood in big piles. However, this fall, when I started the same job, I couldn't even complete one hour of work. The same chainsaw felt too heavy, and my arms were in pain. I spent the next week hardly able to do anything, and my productivity was completely shot. I went to the doctors, got X-rays, and was evaluated. I was told it was arthritis, but it was actually my muscles hurting. One day this week, I was pleasantly surprised that the pain subsided, and I was able to sleep. That's when I realized I had missed two doses of Eliquis. Bingo."

For Pulmonary Embolism "On March 10th, I went to the ER due to calf pain following a surgical procedure on March 3rd. I was informed I had no DVT but did have three small blood clots in my lungs. I was sent home on Xarelto. After a week, clots were gone. The doctor switched me to Eliquis 5 mg twice daily. Two weeks in, I started having horrible bloating, gastritis, horrible GERD, muscle weakness, and horrible hot flashes. I'm on a 3-month treatment. I have been told that these side effects are not from this med. I don't believe that as I've never felt like this before. I'm fatigued every day, before this, I was an active guy. Now I'm exhausted after walking up 8 stairs. I can't wait to be done with this medication. I've been to the ER several times due to severe shortness of breath, only to be told it's GERD and that I'm fine. I'm trying to make it through until June, then I'll be done."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was diagnosed with a deep vein thrombosis this past summer in my lower calf muscle. No injury to the area, so it was labeled an unprovoked event. I started taking Eliquis at 10 mg twice a day for 7 days and then 5 mg twice a day until last week. I am waiting for the doctor's consultation about the results of the last ultrasound. There was a gradual increase in side effects severity. My blood pressure spiked from low 90's-100's to 150 last week. My heartbeat is steady at low 60's per minute but pounds in the chest. My muscle and joint pain has stopped my exercising, as it causes me to limp for days, and minor use of the arms causes rib cartilage and sternum pain. Constipation followed by diarrhea is on a 1-3 day cycle now. The anxiety started out rare to now almost a daily occurrence. The answer I got to these concerns last week from the doctors was to keep taking my full-dose pill or die from a heart attack or stroke. The doctors don't seem to listen to the patients."

For Pulmonary Embolism "Had chest pain that was diagnosed as a pulmonary embolism. Put on apixaban double dose 2 x 10 daily for the first week. 2 x 5 mg thereafter. Been on it for 6 weeks now. My stomach has been dodgy for years after an ulcer, but Lanzoprazole keeps it calm and under control. Since taking apixaban, my stomach has flared up and regurgitating food, motions gone from solid to purée and liquefied. Had headaches and fatigue. GP putting me onto alternative and suggested Warfarin. Like everything, doesn’t suit everyone, unfortunately."

For Pulmonary Embolism "I was put on Eliquis 5 mg twice per day. I weigh 120 lbs, and after reviewing the drug warnings, that is too much for my size. I am experiencing extreme muscle and joint pain to where I can barely stand up and walk and hair loss. I cut it back to 2.5 mg twice a day, and the pain is better but still there, and hair is still falling out. My doctor said those side effects were not part of Eliquis, but they definitely are for me."

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "For me, eating snow peas, string beans, and salads... NO, NO on Eliquis. Every body is different. What works on one does not necessarily work for another. I had more leg pain. In fact, it was more difficult to walk. I stopped eating the green stuff and in a few days was able to walk better. I tried eating green vegetables again, and the pain returned. I stopped eating the green vegetables and was able to walk better. Just my experience with Eliquis and green vegetables."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "Because of an erratic heartbeat, my cardiologist put me on Eliquis 2.5mg twice a day. I have been on this med for about 4 months. Mainly, I am having pain in my feet and redness, particularly when I get up in the morning. Also, I have pain in my left ankle, together with one of my toes. I have also noticed pains in my arms and hands. I keep thinking it is arthritis. In addition, I feel out of balance when I walk, plus vision seems affected. I still function, but moderately. I also take Metoprolol, 12.5mg per day. Help... I am 81 years old."

Now back on them because I’ve had another PE, and my scalp is back to really sore and tender to touch. Anyone else had this problem?"

For Deep Vein Thrombosis "I was put on Eliquis by my MD just because he liked it better than Warfarin. I was previously on Warfarin with no problems. On Eliquis, I have experienced severe muscle spasms and weakness. I am also very tired, eyes are blurry, nose bleeds, weight gain, itching, and just general malaise. I asked my doctor several times to take me off Eliquis and put me back on Warfarin. He refused. I changed doctors, got off the Eliquis, and back on Warfarin. I now feel so much better, and my muscles are getting stronger, and I have my energy back. This Eliquis is poison to me. I also will note I had no A-Fib. I never did. Listen to your body. It knows best."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I have been taking Eliquis for one month for AFib and have developed gout. My right foot near the ankles and toes have been terribly swollen and very sensitive. I put it in ice to keep the swelling down. Secondly, I usually have a normal bowel movement 3 to 5 times a day, but on Eliquis, I have been constipated for 2 days now! Will take prune juice or ask help from the pharmacist and get off this medicine."

For Prevention of Thromboembolism in Atrial Fibrillation "I can't tell how effective Eliquis was as I was only able to take it for three days before stopping. It gave me terrible stomach and intestinal issues. Also, headache, blurry vision, weakness. Doc switched me to Xarelto which gave me worse side effects. Now on Coumadin as a last resort and having stomach issues from that as well. My doctor is understanding but I am preparing for an ablation and so need to be on a blood thinner for 1 month before and 1 month after. I am so sensitive to all meds and hoping I can tough it out."
