What is camphor and lidocaine patch?

Camphor and lidocaine patch (for the skin) is a combination medicine that is used to temporarily relieve muscle or joint pain in adults and children at least 12 years old.

Camphor and lidocaine patch may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide.

Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives, difficult breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Stop using camphor and lidocaine and call your healthcare provider at once if you have:

Before taking this medicine

You should not use camphor and lidocaine patch if you are allergic to it, or if you have:

Ask a doctor before using camphor and lidocaine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

You may develop methemoglobinemia, a rare blood disorder preventing tissues from receiving enough oxygen. Ask your doctor about your risk.

Do not give this medicine to a child without medical advice.

How should I use camphor and lidocaine patch?

Use exactly as directed on the label, or as prescribed by your doctor.

Do not take by mouth. Topical medicine is for use only on the skin.

Apply camphor and lidocaine patch to the affected area up to once per day. The patch should not be worn for more than 12 hours per application.

The patch may be cut into smaller sizes before removing the protective film. The patch can be used on up to 2 body parts at a time.

Wash your hands before and after applying this medicine.

Apply the medicine to clean and dry skin.

Do not bandage treated skin or expose it to heat.

Call your doctor if your symptoms do not improve after 7 days, or the symptoms clear up and come back within 3 days.

Camphor and lidocaine patch is flammable. Do not use near high heat or open flame.

Store at cool room temperature away from moisture and heat. Do not freeze.

Camphor and lidocaine dosing information

Usual Adult Dose for Pain:

Maintenance dose: Apply 1 patch onto skin for up to 12 hours, once per day.

Comments:
-Clean and dry the area to be treated prior to use.
-Wash hands immediately after application.
-The patch may be cut to a suitable size and used on up to 2 body parts at one time

Use: For the temporary relief of muscle pain and joint pain associated with backache, cramps, soreness, strains, discomfort, and neckache.

Usual Pediatric Dose for Pain:

12 years and older
Maintenance dose: Apply 1 patch onto skin for up to 12 hours, once per day.

Comments:
-Clean and dry the area to be treated prior to use.
-Wash hands immediately after application.
-The patch may be cut to a suitable size and used on up to 2 body parts at one time

What happens if I miss a dose?

Camphor and lidocaine patch is used when needed. If you are on a dosing schedule, skip any missed dose. Do not use two doses at one time.

What happens if I overdose?

Seek emergency medical attention or call the Poison Help line at 1-800-222-1222 if anyone has accidentally swallowed the medicine.

What should I avoid while use camphor and lidocaine patch?

Do not get camphor and lidocaine in your eyes, nose, or mouth.
