What is the difference between Lumify and Alphagan P?
Medically reviewed by Drugs.com. Last updated on Feb 17, 2025.
Lumify is an over-the-counter (OTC) eye drop that contains low-dose brimonidine tartrate, whereas Alphagan P is a prescription eye care product that contains brimonidine at a higher strength.
Lumify (brimonidine tartrate ophthalmic solution 0.025%) is used for the treatment of ocular redness (red eyes), whereas Alphagan P (brimonidine tartrate, 0.1% or 0.15%) was first approved by the FDA for intraocular pressure (IOP) reduction in glaucoma patients.
Lumify, an alpha-adrenergic agonist eye drop, selectively constricts veins in the eye, increasing the availability of oxygen and reducing the potential risk of rebound redness (red eyes).
