Cenobamate may reduce the blood levels and effects of gepirone. Contact your doctor if your symptoms worsen or your condition changes during treatment with these medications. You may need a dose adjustment or more frequent monitoring to safely use both medications. It is important to tell your doctor about all other medications you use, including vitamins and herbs. Do not stop using any medications without first talking to your doctor.

GENERALLY AVOID: Alcohol may potentiate some of the pharmacologic effects of CNS-active agents. Use in combination may result in additive central nervous system depression and/or impairment of judgment, thinking, and psychomotor skills.

MANAGEMENT: Patients receiving CNS-active agents should be warned of this interaction and advised to avoid or limit consumption of alcohol. Ambulatory patients should be counseled to avoid hazardous activities requiring complete mental alertness and motor coordination until they know how these agents affect them, and to notify their physician if they experience excessive or prolonged CNS effects that interfere with their normal activities.

Food helps with the absorption of gepirone into the blood stream. You should take this medication with food at about the same time every day. You should not consume grapefruit or grapefruit products while taking this medication as they can increase the blood levels of gepirone in your body, putting you at a higher risk of serious side effects like serotonin syndrome or a change in the electrical activity of your heart called QT prolongation. Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any of the following signs or symptoms of these potentially life-threatening side effects: irregular or fast heartbeat, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, agitation, confusion, sweating, flushing, changes in blood pressure, seizures, hallucinations, or a loss of coordination. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have questions on how to take this or other medications you are prescribed.
