Usual Adult Dose for Ulcerative Colitis
Induction dose: 300 mg IV over at least 30 minutes at weeks 0, 4, and 8
Maintenance dose: 200 mg subcutaneously at week 12, and every 4 weeks thereafter
Comments:
- The 200 mg subcutaneous dose should be administered as 2 consecutive 100 mg prefilled injections.
Use: For the treatment of moderately and severely active ulcerative colitis

CONTRAINDICATIONS: History of serious hypersensitivity reaction to this drug or any of its excipients

Administration advice:
- IV formulation is intended for administration by a healthcare provider using aseptic technique.
- Full maintenance subcutaneous dose requires 2 prefilled pens.
- Prefilled pens should be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional.
- Health care professionals should provide proper training to patients and/or caregivers on injection techniques. Patients may self-inject after training.
- Subcutaneous injection sites include the abdomen, thigh, and back of the upper arm. Instruct patients to inject in a different location every time.
- Do not inject in areas where the skin is tender, bruised, erythematous, or indurated.
- If a dose is missed, administer the dose as soon as possible. Thereafter, resume doing every 4 weeks.
Storage requirements:
- Store diluted infusion solution in the refrigerator at 2C to 8C (36F to 46F). Do not freeze.
- Use diluted infusion solution within 48 hours, at a maximum of 5 hours at non-refrigerated temperatures, and not to exceed 25C (77F).
- Keep away from direct heat or light.
- Prefilled pens should be kept in the original carton and stored in the refrigerator at 2C to 8C (36F to 46F); they may also be stored at room temperature up to 30C (86F) for up to 2 weeks.
- Do not shake the prefilled pens.
Reconstitution/preparation techniques:
- The manufacturer product information should be consulted.
- Remove the prefilled pen from refrigerator and leave at room temperature for 30 minutes before use.
Monitoring:
- Infection: Tuberculosis (prior to initiating therapy and after treatment)
- Hepatic: Liver function (prior to and during therapy)
- Immunization: Age-appropriate vaccinations (prior to initiating therapy)
Patient advice:
- Read the FDA-approved patient labeling (Medication Guide and Instructions for Use).
- Complete proper training with your health care provider prior to self-administering subcutaneous injection.
- Seek immediate medical attention if you experience symptoms of serious hypersensitivity reactions.
- Vaccination with live vaccine is not recommended during treatment and immediately prior to or after treatment with this drug.
- Contact your healthcare provider immediately if you have:
- signs of infection such as fever
- symptoms suggestive of tuberculosis such as fever, cough, or difficulty breathing
- symptoms suggestive of liver injury such as unexplained rash, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, fatigue, weight loss, or jaundice and/or dark urine
- A pregnancy registry is available.
