For Osteoarthritis "I am 74 years young, an active person. Had pain in my jaw for about three weeks, could hardly talk or eat. Thinking it was something awful, I went to the E.R., and the MD there ordered a CAT scan of the mandible, etc. Finally, the report came in as osteoarthritis of the jaw area and inflammation, etc. Well, I was given 2 injections: one of Toradol for pain and Kenalog for the inflammation. Amazingly, after about one hour, I felt much better. Hardly any pain. The doctor told me to see my own MD for follow-up and to take Aleve for pain until then. I will be making an appt. ASAP since I was good for three whole weeks, but now the pain is starting again. I don't want to take Aleve too much as it irritates the stomach and could be harmful if taken consistently. No side effects from either drug."

For Allergic Rhinitis "In 2013, I got a Kenalog-40 injection in my left glute to treat severe chronic hay fever. I just got one shot. One month later, my hair started falling out excessively. I have lost 90 percent of my hair, and my eyebrows are practically gone. I had super thick, healthy hair and 'Brooke Shields' thick eyebrows. This is the scariest, most depressing situation. My menstrual cycle is erratic with excessive bleeding. I have spent thousands of dollars on endocrinologists and hormone specialists to treat this sudden hair shedding/loss caused by this drug. It has ruined my life."

For Osteoarthritis "70 years, was given Kenalog-40/Lidocaine 10% injection in knee. 2 days later, stomach problems started; queasy, cramps, partial loss of appetite, burping constantly, and not feeling well. I am into a week since the injection. Called the doctor's office and was told this is one of the common side effects. Lasting time varies on individuals. Please be informed of side effects before receiving injections. I will not take it again; I will endure knee pain. I have stomach cramps all day/every day. Pray and hope side effects end soon. Please be informed about what a doctor is administering."

For Asthma "Really helps for lung constriction, but the side effects are staggering. Within forty-eight hours, I was shaking uncontrollably, face red, felt like my heart was going to jump out of my chest, face turned into steroid 'moon pie,' sweating and cannot sleep. Breathing is more important, but this is a ride I wish I could get off of."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I had been dealing with a year and a half of sinus migraines, several rounds of antibiotics, OTC allergy meds, etc., and my sinuses never seemed to clear up from seasonal allergies. It was more like year-round allergies. My doctor recommended the Kenalog shot, and within 2 days, the sinus pressure went away, I didn't have migraines, and I felt normal. I don't recall having any shakes or other side effects like that, but I do have an indentation in my buttocks at the injection site. However, I recently discovered that I am sensitive to some adhesives in bandages, so it may be from that instead of the injection. Also, it may be interesting to note that about 1 month after my injection, I had 6 weeks of vaginal bleeding, not quite a period, not quite spotting. It went away on its own, so I am curious now if that was related to the Kenalog shot or a different cause. About 2 months after that cleared up is when I felt the Kenalog effectiveness go away, and I'm 'due' for another shot."

For Inflammatory Conditions "On Feb 15th, I was given an injection in my heel for plantar fasciitis to relieve pain. A couple of days later, I was still a little sore, then after another day, when it all started, anxiety, blurred vision, vertigo, nausea, panic, and acid reflux. Still, 2 months later and dealing with it all. Did blood work and had an MRI on my head. See, the anxiety had me so worried that I got all that work done. Seeing all these posts, I know I am not alone. All my pains and aches are gone. But all these other side effects are much worse, I wish it would just end."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I have suffered excruciating back, hip, and knee pain for 15 years. I had my first injection and felt thirty years old again. I was able to walk normally and without pain. The second shot had no noticeable effect, and the euphoria from the first faded away. The first was given very close to the spinal nerve involved. The second one not so close, and today's shot was very close to the nerve. I would recommend this if medically cleared by all your specialists. It will change your life, at least for a while."

For Frozen Shoulder "My doctor offered this shot as a miraculous and risk-free (except for some rare infections) solution for my minor shoulder pain. I took it like an idiot, trusting him. I got 80 mg in each shoulder. My shoulders do feel amazing. The range of motion is like I’ve never had before. But the sides have been debilitating. I am a month out. I really hope I will not be dealing with this long term. Here’s what I’ve had: - Insomnia (I slept no more than 2-3 hours for 3 whole weeks. It’s better now, but only just) - Acid Reflux (Never had that before. Severe. Lasted 2 weeks) - Acne from hell (No, really. My otherwise clear face, neck, chest, and back broke out in painful pustules that burned, and lots of them. Antifungals and antibiotics did not touch it. It is starting to clear after one month) - Huge spike in blood pressure (went from 100/60 to 150/85) - Myopathy (I am an athlete. My training has been wrecked. I am so much weaker than I was. This continues to deteriorate despite continued training)"

For Inflammatory Conditions "This injection dex/Kenalog was the only treatment that worked for my severe atopic dermatitis; I would have preferred never taking this shot if I knew the side effects once I stopped. Let me give a timeline since I stopped: Month 3: Debilitating anxiety/sense of dread. Month 5: Sinus tachycardia when driving (unable to drive). Month 8: Anxiety/heart palpitations. Month 12: Manageable anxiety. The recovery from this drug is agonizing; the only peace I had while recovering was learning to accept my own mortality. I'm still recovering, and it might take another year to be 100%. Taking hydrocortisone 5 mg allows temporary relief from anxiety. Needless to say, I'll be rating this a 1."

For Rheumatoid Arthritis "I went to the doctor and told her my left arm was starting to freeze up like the right one did. I have RA for 15 years. The next morning, I thought a miracle had taken place. Never felt so good for so many years. Went to Costa Rica, and after about two months, it returned. Came home and after searching for the drug. They had it at the hospital. Took it to my doctor, and he gave it to me in my right hip. Didn't last but about one month. Next time he gave it to me in my left hip, and it maybe lasted three weeks. The next time I asked him to give it where my other doctor in Panama City Beach, FL, gave it to me. In my left arm, and it is still lasting. Also noticed how my complexion cleared up. I have rosacea. Once it got in my eyes. You need to get it from a hospital drugstore."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I receive Kenalog 40 as an injection in my arm, and within 1.5 weeks, my nose is like a normal, healthy nose again! I have a full sense of smell and no longer lose my sense of taste either, it’s absolutely glorious and is the only thing that makes me feel like a normal person with no nasal problems. It also definitely lasts longer than 3 months for me, it’s closer to 6 months in my experience."

For Allergic Reactions "Worst drug EVER! I got the shot yesterday to help with a severe sinus infection I fought for 2 weeks. I expected jitters, BUT was never warned about dizziness; the muscles in each of my arms ache, I can't even put one arm above my shoulder; my throat is tight (I could still breathe, but swallowing was difficult). I woke up at 3 a.m. with my chest having full convulsions--like my upper body was on a paint shaker. Lasted 30 seconds. I almost went to the ER, BUT I knew they wouldn't be able to do anything. I called the doctor this morning...and she said to take some Benadryl today and let them know tomorrow if it helped. I'm not sure what the course of action will be if it doesn't. I'm tempted to take some activated charcoal, but that will lessen the effects of my antibiotic; so I just don't know what to do. They said it's a slow-release one, so it'll be in my system for WEEKS! Weeks on Benadryl is no way to live. I can't take the throat and chest tightness for weeks. So fingers crossed Benadryl does the job."

For Osteoarthritis "Received Kenalog injection in the right thumb for osteoarthritis. I had side effects with the doctor saying these were not related to the Kenalog injection. Dizziness, bloody nose, confusion, migraines. The doctor knew from my chart that I had diabetes, thyroid, and a previous bad reaction with prednisone. The doctor told me before the injection on the same day, 'I've never heard of anyone being allergic to corticosteroids.' I agreed then to the injection and have suffered since 12/16/2015 with the adverse effects. Grrrr! I'm female and 77 years old."

For Lichen Planus "I had two shots of Kenalog-40, 1 month apart. The lichen planus went away, but the side effects of the medication were horrible. Made me feel ill, achy, tired, gastritis, cystitis, gave me irregular menstrual periods (every 2 weeks), and a huge dent on my butt cheek where administered. 5 months later, I still have some of the effects."

For Allergic Reactions "I was diagnosed by my longtime physician. After he prescribed it, I began to have 'flu-like' symptoms the next day and called him. He said to stop taking it because it may cause my immune system to not work well. Keep in mind I had never had a cold or the flu. Six months ago, I was given an injection containing cortisone after plainly stating I was 'allergic' to cortisone. Health problems have ensued, and no one will listen to me! When I questioned this doctor, he stated that only one percent of the population suffered any allergic reaction. So he just 'rolled the dice,' and I am suffering because of it for the past six months."

For Inflammatory Conditions "I am normally a healthy individual. I received the shot in July for a severe ear infection and am still having negative effects to this day in October. I had a single shot, I have suffered bloating, distension of my abdomen, still suffering hypertension. It cleared the infection. How long does this stay in the tissue? When should I expect this to end, if ever!"

For Lupus "I was in such pain from the multiple autoimmune diseases I have. When asked about my pain scale at my rheumatologist, I said I had passed stage 10 ages ago. I literally didn't want to move, I hurt everywhere. My doctor said we would try Kenalog-40. I was so incredibly pleased. I got fairly quick relief, and in several days was moving normally. I had no side effects I am aware of. This so far has been a success story for me. I had my 90-day shot a couple of weeks ago."

"Absolutely worthless and borderline dangerous. It’s been 3 weeks, still have ringing in my ears, my vision is blurry, and can’t seem to get through anything without being nauseous now and in constant pain. I spent almost 16 hours throwing up nothing with broken ribs, now I'm worse than before. The doctor told me that it only lasts 3-4 days after I got sick from it. But when they gave it to me, they said 3 weeks, and take with 800 mg ibuprofen. Constant burning in my stomach, ears ringing, headaches so bad I can’t seem to completely get rid of them, can’t get a deep breath and now coughing. I guess the doctors pat themselves on the back for not prescribing pain medication, even when it’s needed. I should have known when he just sort of guessed at my X-rays that I shouldn’t expect any help or relief. I wouldn't give this poison to anyone, and anyone who would doesn't care."

For Osteoarthritis "Works great for my arthritis pain, but the side effects are not worth it. I've been getting injections for years for arthritis in various body parts. Every time I get the injection, I don't have a period for 3 months, and then BAM, I get hit with a period that is extremely heavy and lasts for 3 weeks. Also, I was not informed that this injection could make the skin at the injection site very thin after getting multiple shots. I covered a scratch in one such spot with a bandaid, when I removed it, all of the skin under the bandaid came off with it. Huge scar, very painful, skin is still somewhat thin in that spot even years after stopping the injection."

"I’m 53 years old and do resistance training 5 days a week to keep my genetic cholesterol in check. My shoulder was hurting for a few years and getting worse. It was so painful when I finally went to the doctor I could hardly lift my arm to put a shirt on. I received this shot on a Friday. By Monday morning, I felt like I was only 20 years old. I went from dealing with constant pain to zero pain in three days. I went from struggling with 25 lb. dumbbells to easily using 40 lb. dumbbells. I went from doing 4 sets of 25 push-ups to 4 sets of 50 push-ups. I almost doubled all the weight I had been struggling to lift before this medication, and I felt like Superman. It was amazing for me! I had no side effects. The negative thing is I was 100% pain-free for only three weeks, and then the pain started slowly coming back. It’s still tolerable after two months. Now it only hurts when I resistance train, even though I’m back to using lighter weights. At least I can still lift my arm pain-free when I put on a shirt."

For Gouty Arthritis "This is the worst treatment I have ever received. I have had mild hypertension over the years and actually had high pressure the day I received the shot for gout. The gout pain went away within hours, however, 2 days after I had an anxiety attack (which I thought was a heart attack) and ended up in the ER. I have had anxiety attacks at night, sleeplessness, heart palpitations, irregular heartbeat, fatigue, and dizziness. After about 3 1/2 weeks, the side effects have started to go away. If I could give this a 0 review, I would. I do not recommend."

For Allergic Rhinitis "I lost my sense of smell several years ago due to chronic sinusitis. In March 2017, I had a shot of Kenalog in my right hip, resulting in the restoration of my sense of smell. It was wonderful, but short-lived. The shot lasted 3 months, and my ENT will only give it once a year due to the chance of necrosis. I had my 2nd shot in mid-April (almost 2 weeks ago), and unfortunately, my sense of smell did not return. Hoping that it will come back again."

For Frozen Shoulder "I have had nothing but a horrific experience with the Kenalog injection my doctor gave me. I asked him what the side effects were. All he said was I had never had a patient have any at all, that it is a safe injection which will help you. What this doctor did was not give patients a true and fair opinion, so should not be practicing medicine! All people should get a full opinion of the risks, period. Over 300 reviews I have read, almost all the patients claim the very same thing! Just one shot has given me life-changing side effects, and it’s almost been a year now. 1) Immediately I almost fell down. 2) Within 15 minutes, the left side of my face and ear was red hot. 3) Shortness of breathing, which still exists. 4) Nervous all the time. 5) Very strange growth in my abdomen, which no one has figured out yet. 6) Ear infection. 7) Extremely painful headaches. People, don’t ever let your doctor do this to you. My doctor lied to me."
