"Having LUQ pain for three years. Colonoscopy in CT showed nothing, hence, blamed on IBS – C. Linzess was tried, but I ended up in the ER twice with an allergic reaction – severe headache, abdominal pain, and intractable nausea and vomiting. Trulance was tried, and so far, it seems to be working well. Usually, between 2-4 hours, I have several BMs, including but not always diarrhea. After about four hours, everything is fine. I still take MiraLAX a couple of times a week and drink plenty of water. I have also tried a half a pill (one and a half milligrams) with OK results, but less consistent results. My only complaint is the cost, and that’s absolutely obscene ($1600 for 90 pills)."

"First time taking this for my irritable bowel syndrome and constipation was yesterday after breakfast, and exactly 1 hour after taking the pill, my stomach was rumbling, and I had diarrhea. I pooped about 8 times yesterday with the constant “gotta poop” feeling all day. I was liquid pooping after the 2nd trip, even at bedtime, I felt the “gotta poop” feeling, but only pooped once during the night. I did have bloating and gas, but I was afraid to fart because it felt like I’d poop on myself. I took Linzess for 1 month and gained 15 pounds! So I stopped taking it immediately, plus, it never made me poop ever. Today is day 2 on Trulance, I took my pill 10 mins ago and already feeling things moving in my tummy. No side effects for me except the poops all day. I definitely wouldn’t take this before I had to work that day."

"Took this Trulance at 2 pm and got some movement. A while later, some cramping. Then by 4 pm, was on the toilet nonstop. Only one pill. NO, NO, NO! I do not recommend this Trulance. I'm having some gross feeling in my gut now. 7 1/2 hours later. Glad some have good luck. But I did not. So disappointed, pharmacist told me many have good luck. Just not me."

"I’ve been on Trulance for almost 3 full months now. I’ve had IBS for over 10 years and tried every medicine, supplement, and over-the-counter type of relief, most of which never worked. Trulance has given me great results, almost every single day. Still, 1 day a week or so I’m constipated. I do experience the side effects of cramping and bloating all day after the medicine and sometimes nausea. Some days I’m in the bathroom 2-5 times, and sometimes it’s just diarrhea, but it’s not too bad. I’m still trying to figure out how to manage these symptoms, but they are much more welcome than the pain and agony I felt constipated for a week at a time. Hopefully, I can get used to the side effects because this is the only thing that works for me, and I don’t want to stop taking it. I usually take it on an empty stomach, I’ll try it with food. Overall, happy with Trulance!"

"I’ve been taking Trulance for a week so far and have noticed great results! I’ve had IBS for 10 years and nothing else works. Linzess was too harsh on me and gave me severe side effects. My doctor recommended Trulance and I was nervous due to some reviews to try it. The first 3 days it worked perfectly! Some slight cramping and bloating after taking it, then a few hours later I was able to use the bathroom with no issue. The next 3 days it didn’t work, maybe I didn’t eat or drink enough. The 7th day it worked perfectly again! Had no issues on the 7th day or side effects. Only a week in, but I can already tell this is going to be something I take daily and get much-needed relief with. May not work every single day, and I still need to get used to it more, but so far, I am very happy with my experience! Also, for reference, I split the dosage each day and found that works best for me."

"My doctor provided a sample of Trulance to try. I experienced explosive diarrhea, bloating, and stomach pain. I was dehydrated, and the next day I felt low energy. I don't think this medication is for me."

"My GI doc gave me a trial sample of this, and, well, I'm definitely not constipated anymore. Have tried one day taking a full tablet, got severe explosive diarrhea. Per my GI, I waited a couple of days, then tried a half tablet, same thing. Don’t take it unless you’ve got all day to be having explosive diarrhea."

"I have been taking Linzess 290 mcg capsules since 2017 for IBS-C. Also taking up to 1,200 mg (Colace) per day. Sometimes would need 20 mg of Dicyclomine for abdominal cramps. I stopped taking Linzess on Sept 9, 2022; started Trulance the next day. Had two normal BMs that day. Began having incredible lower abdominal pain the next day. Constipation continued. The abdominal pain continued nonstop for days. Day 9, I had diarrhea six times in 45 minutes. Day 15, stopped taking Trulance. Day 18, I tried it again, no change in cramps. Day 19, had a fever of 100 in the evening, feeling sick. Day 20, feeling better, took two laxatives plus MiraLAX. Some residual abdominal soreness. Will not be trying Trulance again, will probably go back to Linzess."

"First time taking Trulance, it did nothing over 5 days, except stomach grumbling, headaches, and mild dizziness. Trying it again, and now I get watery diarrhea within a few hours of taking it, which takes up half my day. I cut back to every other day with the same results. I also have diverticulosis, which flares up terribly after all the diarrhea. Now I'm getting indigestion and some reflux, along with bloating. Not sure if this is the answer."

"I got told to take a saline laxative to clean myself out, then start the Trulance (3 mg). The GI told me she hasn’t heard of anyone getting diarrhea from it, so it shouldn’t happen. I’ve read all the reviews about people experiencing this and told to stop taking it if it happens to me. This is my first day starting it, and not even 45 minutes after taking it, I was having explosive diarrhea for about an hour. Out of the bathroom for 5 minutes and now back again for another hour of having explosions. I don’t know when it’s gonna stop, but I know I’m not taking it again. I give it a 4/10 because I guess I did still have some left in my system from the laxative, but it’s not a good time at all. Make sure you talk to your doctors about the medication and find out more before taking it instead of not being told anything about it when it gets prescribed."

"I had an IBS diagnosis that caught me completely off guard. My symptoms started in mid-January 2025, and I thought I had a UTI. Labs that my PCP took proved negative. So next was the urologist who ordered labs and a CT scan. All negative. Next, the gastro doc. Voila, IBS. Tried Linzess and spent days in and out of the bathroom with diarrhea. Not fun. Am now on Trulance, only 3 days at the time of this review. I've had small bouts of diarrhea, but manageable. It seems to be a less invasive medication, and I am holding out for a much improved gastro experience. I am also visiting with my dietitian soon to determine what I should be eating. I'm also stage 3 kidney disease, so a diet that satisfies both could be tricky!"

"I have had severe chronic constipation since childhood. OTC medications, herbal supplements, teas, dietary changes, etc. never provided a consistent solution. Pros: Trulance has changed my bowel habits entirely. From 1 bowel movement bi-weekly to 3-4 a week. It has significantly reduced symptoms of bloating, nausea, vomiting. Cons: The most foul, putrid-smelling flatulence and diarrhea upon starting the medication. Urgency. Make sure you take it at night when you are in the comfort of a nearby bathroom with baby wipes."

"Trulance has worked well for me in spite of the symptoms that seem common. But I took it two days consecutively this week and have had no results at all. I’ve eaten prunes, spinach, etc., which didn’t help. Don’t know if I should take another one now."
