"I am on my fourth month. When I first started taking this Trulance medication, I was scared. Like a lot of others, the rumbles start happening soon within an hour. For the next 6 hours, I have to remain vigilant about the bathroom. For me it ranges from explosive to streaming liquid. This cycle can get exhausting so I will admit that I won't take it every day. There are few times where the medication won't seem to work. There might be some grumblings, but no passing. I attribute this to a few things: 1. Lack of water. You have to drink a lot of water throughout the day with this medication. 2. Bad diet. A lot of us have to accept the fact that we shouldn't be eating greasy foods, large meals, or drinking alcohol anymore. 3. I personally need to take this during the day. If I lay down after taking it, that only challenges my bowels even more. I will keep taking Trulance while working on my diet and hydration."

"I have been on Linzess for several years with occasional diarrhea, but not painful. It has worked very well for me. My insurance company recently required I try Trulance for 3 months. I am just starting on my 3rd month, and I can count on one hand the number of days I have not had explosive diarrhea. Within about 2 hours of taking it, my guts start grumbling and rolling, followed by cramping, then usually 2 or 3 trips to the bathroom within a couple of hours time period. I have had hemorrhoids swell up and bleeding at one point, it was so bad. My next biggest complaint would have to be the packaging! It’s ridiculous, almost impossible to pull the insert out without ripping it open."

"I have been diagnosed and struggling with IBS for over 25 years and recently started taking Linzess for about a year. Then it no longer worked, so I tried samples of Amitzia which worked, but my insurance denied the prescription. I started seeing a GI doctor who prescribed Trulance. For the first 7 days, I had no results. I went to the ER complaining of 3 weeks of constipation, got an x-ray and CT scan which showed no stool in my intestine. That was a $125 copay wasted. Three days later, I started having diarrhea constantly, my bottom was sore, and I was exhausted from sitting on the toilet and not being able to go to bed. Trulance works better for me when I take it after I eat, an hour later, I have good bowel movements and have been regular since taking the medication. I pray it continues to work."

"I’ve had IBS-C for about 5 years now. They started me on Linzess, and I have taken all the types of doses it comes in. Even though it worked, it made me still spend way more time in the bathroom due to constant diarrhea, almost so bad I couldn’t hold it in. After years of running to the bathroom all day every day or sitting in bed in pain from not taking it, they put me on Trulance. At first, it took a while to come around as I thought it was worse than Linzess or didn’t work, but after giving it more time, I realized I mostly only have one or two good movements a day that don’t cause pain. I can even skip it for a day and mostly still have a good movement on the skipped day. My only complaint is that sometimes it seems to move a bit too fast for my track, and I have pale diarrhea, which after all my testing the doctors say is that side effect. I would really recommend it, but just advise to give it time because it definitely didn’t start well for me but has now become my lifesaver."

"So an update from my review yesterday. I took half a pill yesterday after just being given samples. It took like 6 hours to kick in. I had to do an enema to get the ball rolling, but as soon as I did, I passed everything I've eaten in 30 years! Yippee, relief! I took half today and it worked in 2 hours. Zero pain, mild bloating, mild cramping, and full relief. I had three trips to the toilet and pretty much nothing left now. Half a pill is worth a try for anyone who can't handle a whole pill. Seemed to clear out within an hour or two, then I could go about my life. Good luck, guys!"

"I’ve been taking this medicine for a month now (3mg). The first time I took it, I had a whale call from my insides and had explosive diarrhea for about an hour. I knew that it was a side effect and that it could go away with time. No. Three weeks later and still the same thing. I take the pill and within 20-60 minutes, I get the squirts normally around 10 times. I do feel clear and less bloated, but I am scared to take it on days I have a meeting, will be traveling, will be going outside, etc. Basically, I don’t want to squirt in my pants! This stuff I have no control when the urge hits. And the pain that comes with squirting pure stomach acid is so much to handle. It’s not always acid, but it is at least 1 out of 5 times. I have acid reflux but I would have that if I took the meds or not. Lord help us"

"I have been suffering 45 years with severe IBS. I have taken every single prescription and over-the-counter medicine for it. Everything works for a couple of days and then I’m back to normal. I am now taking Trulance and it is like a miracle drug. Within an hour to two after I take it, I feel gurgling in my stomach and then I go diarrhea about 4 times. I feel amazing. No bloatedness anymore. I feel so empty and it feels great. Highly recommend this pill."

"This medicine is supposed to be taken every day. With the approval from my doctor, I take it twice a week. This medicine typically takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 2 hours to kick in. Get up at 4 AM and take it with a full glass of water. I work at 9 AM from home, so my bowel movements are typically done then. Be prepared to be at home for 4-6 hours. Occasionally, I do have abdominal pain from the medicine. Starts with some solid poo and then changes to diarrhea. I typically go diarrhea around 5-7 times that morning. My side effects on good days are just diarrhea. HOWEVER, I have a bad day at least every other week where the medicine makes me so sick and weak. It makes my chest feel really weak and my body. I typically stay somewhat dizzy throughout the day and can get headaches. Regardless of these episodes, for me, the medicine is still worth it to not be living in constant horrific pain from bowel movements and constipation."

"I've been on Linzess for years now for my IBS-C. My insurance decided to deny me and make me try Trulance. I'm on day 2, and I've never felt so sick from a medication in my life. The nausea, bloating, and nasty belly pains are so bad today. It's to the point that I'm running to the bathroom and not knowing which end it's coming out of. Dealing with this while working is not easy. Had explosive diarrhea, and now I have the shakes and feel so weak. By the way, nausea is at an all-time high as well. My stool is now pale in color. I'm all set with this drug! No thank you!"

"So I’ve been taking Trulance for almost a year now. The lowest dose (3 mg), I believe. I went to a GI doctor because I was having stomach pain. I had an endoscopy and colonoscopy done, and everything looked good, minus some gastritis and a really loopy colon. I ended up having a robotic pyeloplasty due to a UPJ (ureteropelvic junction obstruction). She put me on Trulance to help me have good BMs. I take one pill 30 minutes before breakfast. And then I have to stay by a toilet for at least an hour. Explosive, runny, and loud Hershey squirts. So I guess it does make me go... even though it was actually my kidney that was causing the stomach pain. The doctor said my colon is loopy and I’ll have problems if I don’t take something. My real complaint is the weight gain. I would say probably 10 to 15 pounds in almost a year. Thinking about switching or seeing if I can get off the meds altogether. Hope this helps. God bless and good luck!!"

"I was diagnosed with IBD a year ago after a year of tests and changing to a new GI doc. I was placed on a low dose of Linzess 12/2018, but because I was in the bathroom for many hours, I only took it during the week or if I was home (I work at home, so that helps). I would not take it on weekends or any day I was off or on vacation. I would take it at 5:15 am and knew by 7:15 am the medication would take effect. By the afternoon, I was able to go out. My doc changed me to Trulance this December, hoping that this medication would have a different effect. It does not. I do the same routine with this medication. During the times that I did not take Linzess or do not take Trulance, I take a 6-ounce glass of prune juice and 2-3 medjool dates from Costco at night. Sometimes I warm the juice. This remedy usually helps me. I am hoping at some point to get off any medication."

"The doctor gave me samples of this after Linzess made me constantly bloated (I looked pregnant) and gave me nothing but diarrhea. Trulance does the same to me when it comes to diarrhea, and it seems a bit worse at times, like having to stay on the toilet for 2 hours. Sometimes it doesn't work as great, and I feel horribly bloated on my left side until I wake up the next day. One good thing is that I'm not constantly bloated anymore, but the diarrhea is a letdown because I need to be able to leave the house. It's been 3 weeks on this medication, and I'm not sure if I'm really liking it much, I'm not sure what the doctor will suggest next."

"I hadn't gone in 5 days when my insurance finally approved Trulance. My doctor had prescribed Linzess, but the insurance company denied it. They wanted me to try Trulance first. (My longest was 8 days without a BM, and I ended up in the ER for bleeding after straining.) I took the pill shortly after I picked it up from the pharmacy. Within 1 hour, I had explosive diarrhea.... yes, I felt relief but not better. The side effects are too much... headaches (and yes, I drink tons of water), lack of energy (I am usually bouncing off the walls), and the fast weight gain (4 lbs in two days)! I also experienced no bowel movement when I took the second, third, and fourth dose. Horrible indigestion and just a flu-like feeling. I hope one day I can find relief, but for now, I think I will go back to laxatives and stool softeners."

"Trulance is a lifesaver for me! I used to suffer a lot because of my stomach, now I take Trulance every morning, go to the toilet about an hour later, and for the rest of the day, I'm free from thinking about it. I don't get anxiety anymore because of this condition."

"Trulance works great with me, and I love the medication. A real lifesaver. Ammonia did not work, and Linzess gave me constant heart flutters. I typically have a bowel movement within 1-3 hours. Sometimes very wet stools, sometimes not. The first day I took the medication, I had extreme pain with bowel movements overnight. I only had a fraction of the pain the next day I took it, and now I am painless."

"I have had irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C) for most of my life. I am a 56-year-old man. I have had other problems since my early thirties, which are side effects from eating and drinking anything that contains sugar. If I eat ketchup on fries, drink a soda, or a glass of sweet tea, I am unable to keep my eyes open after 30 minutes and have to sleep off the symptoms. I started taking Trulance last Friday. I have had a BM every day since then. I no longer have side effects to sugar. I love this medicine!"

"I’ve been suffering from IBS-C since 2009. Sometimes it’s so severe that I get stressed something more serious is going on. After 3 colonoscopies, a CT scan, and taking Amitiza and Linzess, I was prescribed Trulance along with Dicyclomine (for discomfort/pain) and IBGuard (by my 3rd gastro). I’ve been taking it for 3 weeks, and I’m finally feeling better. I can even have a few consecutive days at a time without any pain at all. I’ve also been sticking to eating FODMAP-free since 2015. It never worked before while on the other meds, but everything seems to be working together now. I’m so much happier and more comfortable in my clothes, when I go out, and in the bathroom than I was prior to Trulance. The only discomfort I’ve had while on it is acid reflux. However, I’m not sure if it's due to Trulance or the other meds I’m taking now. Good luck to others taking it!"

"I have had horrible, chronic constipation for 3 decades. Having a bowel movement was like having a baby, with the result ending up with pelvic prolapse. Finally started Ametiza, took it for 5 years with still hard stools. Finally switched to Trulance in February. Have tried at various times, but diarrhea is always the result. COVID has kept me home, and so I can handle it. But we normally travel a lot, and I cannot imagine going out with uncontrollable diarrhea. I feel frustrated. Miralax gives me putrid-smelling gas. Linzess is not an option. Wish Trulance came in a lower dose. Maybe that will reduce the diarrhea?"

"I began Trulance about a year and a half ago, soon after it was released onto the market. For years, I had taken a probiotic, and my pain was worse. I did a Miralax regimen for several months, with no luck. My doctor then put me on Linzess, which was the most miserable I’ve ever been in my life. I was prescribed Trulance and have had very few problems since. If I maintain a diet and eating schedule, I have a regular BM every morning. I rarely have pain, if I do, it is caused by gas or not taking my pill on time. Trulance has drastically improved my confidence as I reclaimed my health."

"My doctor gave me a month trial of Trulance, hoping that it would work better for me. It worked within 30 mins of taking it. I noticed a difference when I took it without food vs. with food. With food, I would be running to the bathroom about 17 times before the diarrhea stopped. My rectum would be very painful afterwards. Taking Trulance without food was better, I'd go 4 times with 1 regular stool, then the rest runny/explosive diarrhea. I did have side effects. I would get dizzy spells every day that I took the pill. I also started getting blurry vision, no matter how much I blinked or rubbed my eyes. The blurriness wouldn't go away. Lastly, it made me gain weight. My diet has been the same for months, except my sweets have been cut down. I go to the gym for 1 hour 3 times a week. At the end of my monthly trial, I gained almost 11 lbs! I have never gained that much weight that fast. Before Trulance, I was actually losing weight. I will happily go back to Linzess."

"I have Irritable Bowel Syndrome with constipation (IBS-C), and this drug is a lifesaver for me. Without it, I would have had a colon resection by now. I have taken Linzess and Amitiza in the past, and they were not effective. My doctor told me to take it with good fatty food, like a handful of pecans, a handful of almonds, and a handful of peanuts. Does it produce a normal bowel movement? Of course not. My G.I. tract is smoked. However, this draws enough water in that I’ve got about an hour and a half of diarrhea after an hour's wait, and it cleans me out daily like clockwork. For me, diarrhea is much better than constipation. My local G.I. hadn’t heard about this fat interaction, and I had not read it anywhere else. I hope it makes a difference to someone who sees this and gives it a try."

"Began taking for severe constipation, and from the very first to almost 3 months later, I still have nightly very, VERY watery stools for 5-8 hours. Cannot take this medicine and have any evening plans. I can almost guarantee that 1 1/2 hours after taking this medicine, I will feel the first gurgle and will spend the rest of the night in the bathroom. It has helped with the pain in my abdomen, and distension is almost gone. I feel better the next day until I take the next dose."

"I have been diagnosed with IBS-C since 2016. I tried many prescribed medications since over-the-counter meds and treatments don’t work for me at all. I’ve been using Trulance 3 mg for the last 2 years, and it has been a life-changing experience! I cut the pill in half, so I’m able to have a bowel movement in the morning and after dinner. It’s just the perfect medication ever for me. I feel much better every day and helps me to lose weight, even though I exercise 3 or 4 times a week. I give this medication a 5-star."

"Started this last year, and the first 2 weeks were rough. I'd get gurgling sensations in my stomach each time I took it, along with bloating, gas, and diarrhea for a couple of hours. BUT, my GI warned me that it could happen, and to give my body time to adjust. After 2 weeks, the gurgling stopped. Diarrhea turned into 1-2 times a day, and since then, I am having regular bowel movements. No side effects. The only exception is when I eat certain types of food (normally greasy or high in fat). I notice that I have 1 or 2 loose bowel movements the following day. Having IBS with constipation, this was the only medicine that was able to keep me regular. I used to go 5-6 days without going. I was in pain, backed up, bloated, and had no life because I always felt terrible. Not anymore. I know some people can't handle the diarrhea, but I promise you, it is normal at first, but you have to give it a chance, beyond just a couple of days."
