Nivolumab for Renal Cell Carcinoma "Received my 28th and last Opdivo infusion 11 months ago. I opted for going past the recommended 24 months of treatment. It’s hard to stop treatment when the treatment has saved your life and with very few side effects. It’s 12 months since being given a remission diagnosis, and all the intervening CT scans have indicated my tumors are not changing or metabolizing. Opdivo was my magic bullet and remains a viable option to look at when researching a treatment protocol for your cancer treatment."

Nivolumab for Melanoma "My eyes have changed. I have developed macular degeneration. Because my left eye was wet, I have been getting eye injections. My vision is changing constantly. Would this be part of my Opdivo treatment? I also need cataracts removed. Would my Opdivo treatment affect this?"

Nivolumab for Melanoma "I was diagnosed with stage 4 melanoma that had metastasized to my left lung. I had real good success with this treatment. Had a couple side effects, but nothing serious. I received treatments for 10 months and I was in remission. Just starting to see some more side effects: swollen ankles, wrist joints, and itching. Other than that, I am happy with the results."

For Malignant Pleural Mesothelioma "Worst medicine ever. My mother, who is only 74 years old, was diagnosed with mesothelioma and was put on a combination of Opdivo and Yervoy. After 6 long treatments, which were awful with the side effects, the tumors actually grew. These medicines did nothing for her pleural mesothelioma, actually made things a lot worse. These are really expensive drugs, and I can't believe the FDA approved them for mesothelioma. They did nothing for my mother except make her even more ill and the tumors grow even faster."

For Renal Cell Carcinoma "I have only had 3 cycles so far. Side effects quite minimal, having been on Cabozantinib for 3 years. The side effects are much the same: fatigue, upset tummy sometimes. The only new side effect is insomnia, for which I have been prescribed 5 days of sleeping tablets to try to reset my sleep pattern. I have had a couple of ulcers on my legs but not sure if this is Nivo related, as the first one was while I was still on Cabo. 3 monthly CT scan due in 6 weeks, so effectiveness unknown at the moment. Not covered on insurance as it is prescribed on the amazing NHS. On the whole, if it does what it is supposed to do, then the above is all worthwhile."

For Renal Cell Carcinoma "At first in combination with ipilimumab. It eliminated RCC that spread, and was inoperable in both lungs as well as a tumor on a psoas muscle. Once the Yervoy was eliminated, my itching was much improved. My Thyroid needs pills now and the itching has come back somewhat but that's a good trade-off for 1.5+ years of cancer not found. I also have to pay more attention to my diet and constipation risk. I got bronchitis after a lung biopsy but that may just be coincidence. Tinnitus that has been around for at least two years but has gotten much worse in the last three months, but I have not brought it up to the doctor yet, but I will remember to now, since it is ever-present. I had been getting infusions every four weeks but with more itching, I have started an every eight weeks interval since cancer is at bay."

Nivolumab for Non Small Cell Lung Cancer "Opdivo is a joke! My husband had a heart attack the day of his second treatment and died the following week because he could not undergo surgery due to being so weak. We were not aware of some of the side effects. After his death, I owed more to the cancer center than the hospital due to the fact that this immunotherapy drug cost $16,000 per treatment even though Medicare and the supplement helped pay. The only ones who benefit from these drugs are the drug makers. I honestly do not know a single cancer patient that immunotherapy has saved."

Nivolumab for Head and Neck Cancer "Well, it seems to work. I had squamous cell cancer in my left sinus, and after three treatments, the cancer is resolved, apparently. The side effects are brutal, though - diarrhea, constipation, weight loss, skin issues, sleep issues, and fatigue. Don't know how long they're going to go on."

"This drug basically gave me back my life! I receive Opdivo-Yervoy every 4 weeks. I have not had to be hospitalized in over 3 years. Side effects are manageable. I was diagnosed with stage 4 Bile Duct that had metastasized in my liver in 2017. I had a stent put in that prolonged my life. The chemo caused many issues and hospitalizations. The stent caused sepsis, which is now kept clear of infection by a Sulfatrim drug once a day."

Nivolumab "I have bladder cancer and started Opdivo 2 weeks ago. At first, no side effects, but after one week, I noticed achy elbows and hips, plus my lower back, along with being unusually tired. The next day, had the same joint aches, plus a headache and tiredness. Took 2 Advil for relief. 10 days out, and I am extremely tired, have aches in my joints still, and now have pressure behind both eyes and headaches. No vision change. Trying to stay well hydrated and rest to see if symptoms go away or lessen. Scheduled blood tests with a consult with the oncologist in 4 days. Will review this with her then or call her if symptoms worsen."

"After regimens of several chemo agents (brentuximab, R-GemOx, others) over 8-9 months, nothing was working. I was in bad shape. I had lost 40 of my 160 lbs. My oncologist, as kind of a last resort, and after consulting with Stanford University Hospital Lymphoma Dept, decided to try nivolumab. The first dose, 240 mg, 1/2 dose, was dynamic in that I basically passed out within 30 minutes on the way home and had a fever of 104.5*. My family wrapped me in ice packs and put me to bed. I slept all night and in the morning I awoke hungry, no fever, and wondering what had happened. I felt better and could get around some by myself. That was January 2024. I began to improve immediately. It’s now February 2025, and I have gained all my weight back and am exercising some and walking 1-2 miles/day. A complete turnaround. My side effects have been: genital/anal itching, a little cranial scaling and itching, bad CIPN (probably from the R-GemOx), vertigo. Much more."

Nivolumab "I am on my second go-around with Opdivo. My first experience was pretty good. We used Opdivo in combination with Yervoy. I broke out into a severe rash over a large portion of my body. We discontinued the Yervoy and moved forward with Opdivo alone. Treatment was good with no additional issues. My body became cancer-free, and after about a year, treatment was complete. I went 18 months cancer-free until a follow-up screening revealed it was back. That was last November 2022. I started the Opdivo once again and have been cancer-free since January. I continue to receive monthly treatment and feel pretty good. I love my doctors, they are the best!!!"

"So far, I've had some vision issues (blurring/double vision [6th nerve palsy]) and my skin feels like it has been injected with a mild spice, especially in areas that have lymphedema and have had previous surgeries. I'm only 2 weeks in (one treatment with ipilimumab). I'm having 6 total treatments over 12 weeks and then some scans to determine if this is working."

Nivolumab for Colorectal Cancer "Was out of remission and had to take radiation and Opdivo. The cancer was resolved by the radiation treatment, not the Opdivo. What the Opdivo did was damage not only my thyroid but my salivary glands as well and caused blisters in my mouth."

Nivolumab "My husband had bladder cancer. His bladder was removed in February 2021. Doctors wanted him to start Opdivo, which he did. Several months after taking this, he started having flu-like symptoms. Now he is in ICU fighting for his life on a respirator. He has pneumonitis, inflammation in the lungs. Doctors don't tell you the severe side effects. If he had it to do all over again, I would have encouraged him to not take this medication. Do your homework. It is awful watching someone go through what he has been through. I would say no to this drug."

Nivolumab "My daughter was in treatment for Wilm's tumor. She was in treatment for over 3 years. She received chemo, surgery, radiation, proton therapy, more radiation, and a stem cell transplant. She was okay for 8 months post-transplant until the cancer returned to her lungs. We revisited drugs that she had not had since the beginning of her treatment. When all options were exhausted, her oncologist decided to try Opdivo. My daughter was already having trouble breathing, but after the first treatment, her breathing worsened. 3 weeks later, she had her second dose - the date was Dec 18th. Her breathing worsened even more to the point where she couldn’t walk. She had to be wheeled into the ER on Christmas night 2019. A CT determined there were many tumors in both lungs - too many to count. We were told there was nothing they could do. My beautiful daughter lost her battle on Jan. 12th, 2020. 15 days after her 15th birthday."
