"Misoprostol has been proven effective based on its working principle, based on the routine or channel of mechanism (prostaglandin E1). It has been used to inhibit the secretion of acid and prevent gastric injury caused by various substances, with the hope that it would be useful for the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal ulceration, with critical appraisal of its role in the prevention and management of upper gastrointestinal ulcers associated with the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and for prophylaxis against NSAID-induced ulcers. In the United States, misoprostol is approved for the prevention of NSAID-induced gastric ulcers in patients at high risk."
