For Bacterial Vaginosis "I am never taking this medication again. I have been having headaches, nausea, dizziness, upset stomach, diarrhea, sweating, high anxiety, almost threw up, and lightheadedness. I honestly feel so sick, and it wasn’t even worth taking the medication. My side effects are worse than actually having BV. I called my doctor, and they said just finish out the 7 days and all of this is normal, but I am struggling. They said taking probiotics and eating before taking it helps, but... it doesn’t."

For Dental Abscess "I had a tooth abscess for months; the dentist said I need to do root canal treatment (RCT). Pulp removed, filled in medication, will be seeing my dentist again in 3 weeks to finish off the RCT. In the meantime, she prescribed me 2 antibiotics to take concurrently for 5 days: Metronidazole (Metrogyl) 400mg x 3 times; Augmentin 650mg x 2 times per day. Just started the 2nd day, so far so good. I try to eat with a full meal or at least a toast with hot chocolate. Had experienced a bit of stomach discomfort, skin rashes (comes and goes), and feeling tired/sleepy, not to the extent of nausea. Most of the abscess is gone; I hope the abscess will be completely gone before my 2nd follow-up on RCT. And avoid alcohol."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "Was prescribed Metro 400 mg three times a day for Clostridium infection. Within a few days, I was experiencing stomach gurgling and bubbling that was diabolically strong and constant. It would keep me awake all night and be going literally all day. I was terrified to eat and became so upset. I have never been ill with my tummy before and consider myself a strong and robust 44-year-old man with no prior mental or gastro health problems, but this drug literally destroyed me. Jury's out whether it's worked or not. The Clostridium diarrhea has gone (though stools still aren't right and stomach is still sore), yet to have tests to confirm."

For Bacterial Infection "I have to take this stuff for 7 more days, on day 3 now. VERY SICK, weak, dizzy, stomach cramps, shaky, headache, can't eat. I got nothing good to say about it. But it better work because I am not doing this again."

For Bacterial Infection "After coming back from Thailand, I caught a pretty nasty bug. Thank God for this medication getting rid of it, but the side effects from it were terrible. I took 750 mg three times a day, with a mandatory meal, or I would vomit. I constantly felt dizzy, with headaches, persistent nausea, stomach cramps, aggressive bloating, diarrhea for 10 days, and was constantly fatigued. I attempted a natural remedy at first but had no luck with that. Having a really healthy diet on these pills actually helps quite a bit. Stay away from sugar."

For Bacterial Infection "Had to take this for an infection where my wisdom is coming through. It got rid of the swelling, but I couldn't finish the course. I was throwing up a lot, couldn't even keep water down. Got terrible diarrhea with it as well and was constantly tired. The stomach ache that kept going from a stabbing to an aching pain and constantly lingered just made me irritable, although irritability is also another symptom. All around terrible to take."

For Bacterial Infection "I hated it at night, had headaches, and just felt bad until I realized that instead of taking it with a half glass of water when I was already in bed, I needed to drink as much as I could and take it one hour or more before going to bed. So this is what worked for me. I took it with a glass of milk, then drank a cup of chamomile tea and added a glass of water. I walked around a bit, and soon enough all that liquid would send me to the bathroom where I honestly thought I was flushing it out of my system. That's how I started today. Day 6 of 10. I take 3x500 mg daily. And I am finally sure I will survive it. My other problem was an upset stomach (before the pills), but eating bits of cooked rice/crackers every hour helped my stomach feel better."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "No side effects at first. On a 7-day treatment, 2 times a day. By day 5, I noticed I've had severe insomnia, an extremely dry nose, headache, a general feeling of being unwell. But the infection felt cured, so that's good. Don't swallow toothpaste like another reviewer suggested, just try to put it way back in your mouth to swallow it fastest. Take with food! It's not good for people to swallow toothpaste 2 times a day. Stomach upset on day 5 as well. More like bad indigestion and always hungry, even though I ate. But with only three pills left, I'm determined to finish treatment. If it doesn't work for you and you are trying to treat BV, even if pregnant, ask if you can try the vaginal gel if you can't take the side effects of this medication."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This drug completely works for getting rid of the infection - I had them for bacterial vaginosis, but I had the worst side effects. I experienced stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, headaches, severe dizziness, nightmares, and confusion. I really badly wanted to get rid of the infection, so I took the medication right until the end of the seven-day course at 400 mg twice a day, despite the side effects. You need to swallow the tablets after you have eaten, as it works best on a full stomach. I would recommend waiting about 10 minutes or so after eating for your food to be digested before taking the tablets. The tablets taste awful, so have them with a drink or swallow with food. The infection started to clear up after the first day. Just be prepared that you might get some awful side effects, but the drugs will work. Hang in there."

For Dental Abscess "Into my second day, and after only 3 x 400 mg tablets, I stopped the treatment. I had severe stomach cramps, diarrhea, dark urine, but worst of all, severe back pain. I stayed in bed for most of the day, even after I stopped the treatment. I will avoid in future."

For Bacterial Infection "This stuff is just awful. I've had a fair few meds and antibiotics over the years and have not had anything that comes close to the misery this has caused. Prescribed 3 x 400 mg for 7 days for a tooth infection that was causing me acute tooth and ear pain. Day 1 - General malaise, something not quite right. Toothache/earache 20% gone. Day 2 - Severe nausea and stomach cramps. Couldn't even keep a glass of water down. Fatigue and lethargy. Could barely muster the strength to get out of bed and slept for 16 odd hours. Headache. Dizziness. Hot flashes. Toothache/earache 80% gone. Day 3 - Vomiting stopped but constant background nausea, so didn't eat until a small evening meal. Fatigue, lethargy, and dizziness still present. Slept 12-14 hours. Toothache/earache 90% gone. Day 4 - Back to work, but nausea/fatigue/lethargy/dizziness still present. Felt like I'd worked a super hard week by lunchtime and couldn't really complete any intellectually demanding tasks. Left work early."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "The medicine works. But of course, the aftertaste is the worst. It leaves a horrible taste on your tongue that alters the taste of everything you eat. I also felt sick at times: nausea and stomach ache. Though it was because I was consuming it with my iron pills, even when I stopped that for a while, it still remained. But overall, it works. Just have to get over the aftertaste and nausea. And water doesn't necessarily help."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I've been taking this medicine for three days, one pill twice a day. I've noticed mild stomach aches, mild headaches, lethargy, and an awful taste in my mouth while and shortly after ingesting the pill. My infection has already begun clearing up and is hardly noticeable, aside from occasional discomfort. I wouldn't necessarily suggest this medicine if there were another available, but it does its job, albeit with side effects."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I'm on day 3 of 7, 3x a day. Have taken every pill straight after a meal, and get a mouthful of water before putting the pill in my mouth - no taste at all other than the first time when it wasn't even that bad anyway, just tasted like when you accidentally leave a paracetamol in your mouth too long! As for side effects, I've had a headache pretty much every day but nothing bad that paracetamol won't help and a very slight continuous stomach ache (nothing crippling!). No diarrhea or vomiting here, and the infection is slowly subsiding. I definitely recommend, the side effects for me simply aren't bad enough to stop you from taking it at the expense of not treating your bacterial vaginitis."

For Dental Abscess "This is my 5th time this year on metronidazole for an impacted wisdom tooth that can't be removed but keeps developing an abscess. It usually follows a failed course of amoxicillin, and although it always clears up the infection, the side effects are pretty awful. I feel like I've had the flu for the first few days (fever, fatigue, unable to sleep, stomach cramps, and loss of appetite), which usually means I have to miss work, and then a really sickly stomach for the last three. It also takes me a few days after finishing the course for my energy levels and stomach to get back to normal. So the drug works, but the side effects are worse than my actual ailment."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I just want to make it clear that the directions clearly say do not consume alcohol while taking the medication or else you will have almost deadly side effects such as headaches, nausea, stomach upset. So please don't do this. I used metronidazole and give it a 10 out of 10 - no problems here!"

For Trichomoniasis "I was prescribed four 500 mg pills to take at one time. My gyno highly recommended that I take them with food because it would most likely upset my stomach. I weigh 95 lbs soaking wet, and I'd never taken antibiotics before, so it seemed like a rather harsh treatment, but I took the medication as directed. I took it around 10 pm, an hour before I went to sleep. It made me very drowsy right away. I woke up around 5 am with the most horrendous nausea imaginable, and I started vomiting an hour later. The nausea and vomiting stayed for a couple of days. I developed a fever and had chills. Other side effects I experienced: stomach cramps, diarrhea, mouth sores, that metallic taste in my mouth, extremely dark urine."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I had no idea about any of the symptoms of BV. I went to the doctor, and they prescribed me metronidazole 500 mg twice a day for 7 days. I'm on day 7 and have had some side effects by reading your posts. I had an upset stomach, nothing I can't handle. I have also had some cramps, dark urine, and fatigue. The worst of all was fatigue, I'm so tired all the time and have had no desire whatsoever to clean my house or cook for that matter. I hate it! I'm done today, though, so hoping this lets up soon. As far as the symptoms go, they went away what seems to be after the first day. I don't have any discharge, smell, itching, or anything for that matter, though I didn't have sex while on the meds. I would recommend every time!"

For Trichomoniasis "Well, I'm just one tablet away from finishing my 7-day course (2 400 mg pills a day). Metronidazole gave me no side effects at all-BUT I suggest taking them at least 4 hours apart. Yesterday, I took them 3 hours apart, and I don't know if it's because of that or because I only had 4 biscuits with the second tablet, but either way, I ended up having terrible stomach cramps. I felt sick this morning too, but I'm better now. So yeah, take them with a full meal at least 4 hours apart, you should be fine. Drink lots of water with them. If you have the pills with a break line, you can break them in half because they are really big, but you get used to it, TBH. They've definitely helped my problem! I've been suffering for MONTHS, and finally, I feel back to normal. I did a pH test today, and that's normal too. They sent a swab off today too, so I will update when I get that back. But yeah, feeling back to normal, brand new down there. Great pills!"

For Bacterial Vaginosis "This medicine tastes horrendous. It doesn't matter what I take it with, it's just terrible. I have to take it for 7 days, and I'm on day 4. I have noticed a difference. It gives me really bad headaches and an upset stomach. However, it is clearing things up. It's been getting worse with each time I take the pills. The taste is seriously the worst."

For Giardiasis "I was really scared to use this based on reviews, but am experiencing very minor side effects. I’m taking 500 mg 3/day for 7 days for giardia. Side effects are very manageable and not severe at all: headache, fatigue, mild stomach upset. I take with food, wash the pill down with lemon flavored water (helps a lot with the taste), and drink lots of fluids throughout the day. Side effects are nothing compared to the fatigue/stomach issues I have from giardia. Efficacy TBD."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I was prescribed this medication when my test came back positive for Gardnerella. I was already on cipro for a UTI, and when I was prescribed this, my anxiety had shot up because I can't handle feeling nausea. Luckily, it has treated me well! The taste is awful, though! I'm on my 4th day, and it did mess up my taste buds. And when I take my medication at night, I seem to get a small stomach ache and dizziness. Overall, it's an okay medication."
