For Clostridioides difficile Infection "There are worse things than death. This is one of them. I am NEVER sick. Epitome of good health. Took clindamycin for tooth infection. Contracted C. diff. Horrible. This medication is like chemo. On my 5th day of 14 of 3 500 mg pills per day. 20 times a day to the restroom has subsided. Side effects are excruciating. Weak, headaches, fever, metallic taste, no appetite, cramps, bloated, dark urine, lethargy, depressed, etc. There has to be a better way. I am so tired of this. Week 3 of my summer ruined and gone. Big Pharma should try the drugs on management instead of the innocent animals that have died."

For Pelvic Inflammatory Disease "I have been diagnosed with suspected PID (Pelvic Inflammatory Disease) so was given this drug metronidazole alongside Ofloxacin. I'm on day 2 of these drugs. I am not sure what's my illness and what's the side effects of these drugs. But looking at others' symptoms, it seems that what I've been experiencing is likely the side effects. I've had really awful nausea, stomach pains, soft stools, insomnia, metallic taste, frequently peeing, hot flushes, and hot cheeks (but no real temperature) sweating. I hope as my course progresses these symptoms will ease, but seemingly others haven't been so lucky, so I probably won't feel much better. At this rate - so long as it clears up my infection, I'll put up with it."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I was in the hospital for extreme pain in my tummy, vomiting and diarrhea at the same time, which later turned into vomiting and pooping blood. Diagnosed with colitis. She also said it was a BI. I stayed a day because the pain was so bad, and I couldn't keep anything down, so I was given morphine by IV until I could keep fluids down. Also on Flagyl 500 3x a day and Cipro 500 2x a day for 14 days. On my 4th day, and this medicine has been a lifesaver!! I've lost 6 pounds in 4 days. I'm only eating a couple of crackers and soup juice. Nothing tastes right. Some foods have a metal taste. Also, it makes me ache like I have the flu. But nothing like the pain I was in before! I will take these few side effects before going through the pain I had before."

For Trichomoniasis "I was diagnosed with trich and given the 2g metronidazole (four 500mg tabs) to take at once. I had read all the reviews and scared myself to where I didn't want to take them. But I did. Ate breakfast and took them at 9 a.m. I had a horrible metallic taste in my mouth for a few hours after I took them. But I drank Gatorade, and it helped. Other than that, I have had no side effects. So my advice... take the meds, you will be okay."

For Giardiasis "During my 7 days on this medicine, I experienced a very bad metal taste in my mouth. I was also constipated and had headaches. The medicine cleared up the Giardia, and all the symptoms stopped about a day or two after my last dose."

For Bacterial Infection "Took this med for C-Diff for the full 14 days, but felt I was giving away my health in exchange. After 12 hours of taking the first pill, I noticed back pain forming. It increased until I was in so much pain, I just had to rest. The problem was resting wasn't restful because the pain made it hard to move. Over the course of the 14 days, it felt like my joints were aged 25 years. I experienced severe pain in several places in my body for several days at a time until it seemed to move to a different spot-back pain didn't subside. Also nausea and metallic taste in mouth. The concerning thing is 5 days off meds and pain hasn't subsided. Hoping to be back to my normal healthy self soon. I'll NEVER take this med again. On a positive note, C-Diff did clear."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "This is the final day of my 10-day prescription of Flagyl 750 mg x3 daily for a parasite infection, and over the last nine days, this is what I have been experiencing: - Bad or metallic taste in the mouth. - Nausea. - Little fatigue. - Moody. - A few bloating periods. - 8th and 9th days frequent diarrhea. I don't know if the parasite infection is still there, nor what to expect after the dosage. Would love to hear feedback from someone in a similar position. Thanks."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I was taking Flagyl two times a day for a week time period, and it was awful in terms of side effects as concerned. It started working instantly. However, I was throwing up every night I took this pill due to an upset stomach, which was aggravating because I already was not eating much to begin with, so I was dry heaving. I experienced diarrhea, shortness of breath, brief itching. The metallic taste puts a horrible taste in your mouth, so bad to the point I literally dreaded taking the pill each day. But midway through the pill, I got smart and put it on a spoonful of yogurt to mask the taste, and let me tell you, it works wonders! So if you don't eat yogurt, try a pudding or something like that, and it will be so much better. I hope that helps."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I’m on day 7 of the 2x a day 500 mg pill. Overall, not a bad experience. The only side effects I can say I’ve definitely noticed are the metallic taste of the pill while swallowing, which I took after breakfast/dinner. I also had very soft stool throughout the entire week of the medication, and my urine was significantly darker than usual, but other than that, nothing major. My BV discharge and smell went away, so I would say it did its job!"

For Trichomoniasis "I was first diagnosed with gonorrhea from a partner and then diagnosed with BV and trich the second time after testing. They prescribed me the medication and advised me to take 4 pills the first day. Please make sure you eat before taking the pills because they are very strong and will have you feeling nauseous. The side effects are not that bad but can make you feel really down and disgusted. Nauseous, metallic taste, and very lightheaded. I’m only on my second day, but the side effects are really bothering me. It also makes you urinate a lot and your urine is darker, but I guess that means it’s working. Hopefully, this passes through me and I hope to not have to deal with this again."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I went for a pelvic exam and was told I have BV, so I was prescribed metronidazole. I had to take 1 tablet every 12 hours for 7 days. So I took 1 at 8:30 am and 1 at 8:30 pm for the 7 days. I thought I was doing well with the medication, but I noticed it has a horrible metallic taste when I put the tablet in my mouth. Then, for some reason, around day 3 or 4, I started having extreme bouts of anxiety and depression. I started crying out of nowhere and felt extremely moody. It was insane! Throughout the rest of the days, I was having anxiety again where I was about to delete my social media platform for no reason, and I was getting irritable with people around me. I would have racing 'What if' thoughts and cry when I had those anxiety attacks! On day 4, I had diarrhea and was fatigued. I started having some itchy rashes on my skin and vivid, scary dreams. The side effects of this medication were so bad! My BV has disappeared, but I would NOT recommend this medication."

For Bacterial Infection "If you can finish these awful nausea-inducing, hot flush-causing, headache-inflicting, and appetite-destroying pills. Took like a trooper for 6 days before totally giving up. 24 hours after now and still experiencing symptoms. This medication has an in-body half-life of 8 hours, elimination from the system takes place in 5.5x half-life, so 49 hours. I've got 25 hours left of this and I'm literally counting them. Expect other strange symptoms like waking up with cotton mouth and a metallic taste, mouth ulcers, and strange-colored urine. Expect to convince yourself you have meningitis and sepsis at the same time."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "Horrible experience! I was taking this medication, 500 mg three times a day. I was on Cefdinir for 3 days for a UTI, and I didn't take a probiotic while on the medication, so I contracted C. diff. I also work in the hospital, so while being on the medication, I was more prone to catching something. The C. diff was terrible, but the medication side effects were even worse. It cleared up the infection pretty fast, but like I said, the side effects were the worst. This is day 10/10, I still have the metallic taste even though I brush my teeth 4 times a day. I had dark brown colored urine, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, and nausea. I would not recommend this medication to anyone, even though I myself work in the healthcare field."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I've been taking the medicine on and off for 5 years. I have a repeating bacterial vaginitis infection. The medicine tastes like metal. For those of you who ask, 'how do you know what it tastes like?' Your mouth begins to have a metal flavor, and the taste of your food is altered. The medicine literally makes me ill, my head hurts and my stomach is nauseous. There aren't any other medications that work for bacterial vaginitis, and this one obviously isn't perfect. Nevertheless, it does the job for 3-5 months, and then I repeat the course of action all over again. So my advice is to hang in there and take the pills until completed. Hopefully, you will have greater longevity."

Metronidazole for Diverticulitis "I have had to take this medicine numerous times. The absolute best way to take it and not taste it is to fill your mouth with kefir and drop the pill in your mouth and then swallow. You will not taste the metallic taste!"

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "Absolutely hate this medication. I've been in the hospital with the norovirus, just to find out I have C. diff now and have been taking this medication 3 times a day for 10 days. So sick of the nausea, can't tell anymore if the nausea is from C. diff or the medicine. Almost done with the medication, and I couldn't be happier. Lost 15 pounds, haven't eaten anything no matter how hard I try, dehydrated and sick to my stomach. Absolutely hate this medication and the metallic taste."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Ok, so I'm 21, just so everyone knows. I'm taking this medication for 7 days at 500 mg twice a day. It's been pretty rough. The first tablet, I was so tired, sensitive to light, super sick, headache, chills that felt like a fever, sweating, no sleep. The second and third day, all the crazy symptoms went away, and now I'm seeing dark urine (which is gone if I drink more water than usual), a horrible metallic taste in my mouth, no appetite, I'm super bloated (the kind that you can't suck in, if you know what I mean it's almost like my stomach is swollen), and I feel so nauseous, it's awful. These are the symptoms I have right now, and they're honestly awful. I also still get cold at night. I'm on day 3 and I literally can't wait to finish this medication."

For Giardiasis "I'm taking 5 400 mg Flagyl tablets daily with a meal, and I feel worse now than I did with Giardia. I've lost my appetite entirely, I've been stuck in bed for a week, and now I'm off work. I had been going to work with the Giardia because I thought it was IBS. But since I have been taking this poison (and it does feel exactly like I'm being poisoned), I barely get out of bed, I am so fatigued. I am finding it hard to concentrate, my mouth tastes like I have been chewing on aluminum foil. I feel nauseous constantly, constipated, and no matter how much water I drink, I feel dehydrated. My urine is a dark color with a strange smell. I have read this drug is an antagonist of vitamin B1, so I will start taking B1 and magnesium supplements to hopefully improve these horrible side effects. Good luck to anyone reading this. The only reason I have given it a GENEROUS two stars is that so far it has worked to reduce my giardia symptoms, but once I finish this course, I will NEVER touch this stuff again."

For Bacterial Infection "So, I was put on metronidazole by my gastroenterologist because of 'gut issues.' 250 mg 3x/day for 10 days. The first two-ish days, I had diarrhea, dry mouth, and the 'metallic' taste many people mention. My gut symptoms seemed to worsen, but after a few days, this medication seemed to get everything under control. All bad side effects subsided, and I felt totally fine. I absolutely did NOT drink alcohol while taking this (and my doctor did make it very clear not to). When you read the potentially terrible (and dangerous) side effects from mixing this medication and booze, it's just not worth it. The worst thing about this medication is the taste - terribly bitter, so swallow quickly! All in all, don't fear this medication too much."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "My doctor prescribed me Flagyl 500 mg for 4 days, once a day. Before I take any meds, I do research on them to know what to expect or what's not normal, but honestly, I have to stop doing this! I read all these awful symptoms all of you, or most of you, were going through, and I almost gave up on the pill before even starting! But then I realized each woman has a different experience, and so far, the only symptom is the metallic taste in my mouth and a little dryness in my mouth also. I'm hoping this is the last medication I have to take and go back to a healthy vagina because I've been MONTHS at this, between BV or yeast infections, and it's driving me INSANE. Before these pills, I used Metrogel for 7 days. Either it didn't work, or now I have a yeast infection. Good luck to you all!"

For Bacterial Infection "I have been prescribed Flagyl (metronidazole) 500 mg twice a day for 14 days for a colon infection and have to say that it's terrible! I've been on it for only two days and the migraine is unbearable, the nasty metallic taste gross, and the nausea and vomiting are bad, but it is way better than the ciprofloxacin that gave me bad depression and the feeling I was dying. 13 days more to go and I can't wait to be off this medicine."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "Taking this 2x per day (every 12 hours) for 1 week straight while eating or with milk. I've experienced abdominal cramps on the lower left side, some nausea (but not all the time), and definitely have had the gross, metallic taste in my mouth whenever I take it. On day 4, the discharge/smell seems to be gone. I've noticed that I barely notice the taste if I drink some milk before, then tilt my head back and let the pill drop, and then more milk until I don't feel/taste it anymore. I've even accidentally bitten the pill when I was eating milk and cereal, and while it made me want to vomit for a split second, the taste was completely gone as soon as I washed it down with milk. Never taking this without milk again."

For Bacterial Infection "I went to the doctor, as for 2 months I was experiencing diarrhea and mushy stools up to 5 times in 2 hours. I had lower left abdominal pain near the belly button, severe bloating, gas, belching, and stomach burning, no appetite, body aches, but no fever. The doctor never ran tests except for H. pylori. No other testing. I got prescribed Ciprofloxacin 500 mg every 12 hours and Metronidazole 500 mg every 8 hours, both for 10 days. I'm on day 5, and the side effects have definitely made me feel worse: metallic taste, burning stomach, still mushy stools, dizzy, confused, slurred speech, fatigue, and no energy. I have begun to see a thin white thread-like substance in my stool. Abdominal pain has subsided. I have no diagnosis, which is somewhat unsettling to me based on these harsh meds. I've also noticed that stools now have no odor at all. I have found that a banana and half a glass of milk help with the Metronidazole, but I cannot wait to be done with this medication."

For Giardiasis "Just finished my treatment of Flagyl, and it was a roller coaster. It began when I contracted giardiasis from a lake. The virus itself lasted about 2 and 1/2 weeks. I then stopped eating due to my stomach shrinking from all the food posing from giardiasis. I started the medication and was able to eat more and more each day. The side effects are pretty bad, sadly, but if you're looking to get better, then it is worth it 100%. I had an upset stomach 24/7, metallic taste in my mouth, constipation, diarrhea, and complete loss of appetite. This drug is intended to kill everything in your system, and I will not be around people for another 3 days. The drug did work, and that is what its purpose was. If anyone gets this disease."

For Diverticulitis "After a month of pain that I could not bear. I had to go to the ER, where I was diagnosed with diverticulitis. I was on moxifloxacin and Tylenol. I had to schedule a colonoscopy, which shows nothing. I was revisited by the left-side lower pain. Had to get Cipro and Flagyl. No fever but reduced appetite. I am on, but as stated by all, the metallic taste and feeling of weakness and sluggishness. My second day on medication will update as time goes on."
