Metronidazole for Giardiasis "It was such a relief to get a diagnosis of giardiasis instead of something worse that I was happy to accept a 10-day treatment of 500 mg/3x day Flagyl. As a retired RN, I knew it could be bad, and it was! Dizziness, metallic taste in my mouth, stomach pain that differed from the one Giardia was giving me, headaches, nausea, sleep disruption, random itchy spots, foul-tasting heartburn - full range of side effects. HOWEVER, I am still so grateful to have something to get rid of my parasites after suffering with them for 3 months that I just dug in and took the 10-day treatment with gratitude. It's been rough, and now at the end of the treatment, I am focusing forward on healing my GI system and getting back to normal."

For Clostridioides difficile Infection "There are worse things than death. This is one of them. I am NEVER sick. Epitome of good health. Took clindamycin for tooth infection. Contracted C. diff. Horrible. This medication is like chemo. On my 5th day of 14 of 3 500 mg pills per day. 20 times a day to the restroom has subsided. Side effects are excruciating. Weak, headaches, fever, metallic taste, no appetite, cramps, bloated, dark urine, lethargy, depressed, etc. There has to be a better way. I am so tired of this. Week 3 of my summer ruined and gone. Big Pharma should try the drugs on management instead of the innocent animals that have died."

For Bacterial Infection "I never write reviews, but after seeing everyone else's experience, I thought I would have to share mine. I was taking these for BV, which I had for a while as I was too embarrassed to go to the doctors. They work wonders on getting rid of the BV. Around day 5-6, I was suddenly hit with cold/flu-like symptoms. Stuffy nose, headaches, dizziness. As it's close to Christmas, I thought I had just come down with a cold. But then I started feeling nausea, exhausted, waking up throughout the night and not being able to sleep. I even had to leave work early one day because I couldn't function much! I just decided to Google the symptoms of the drug, and wow! Who knows one little thing could bring in so many side effects!"

For Pelvic Inflammatory Disease "Went to the ER because of intense pelvic pain and ended up having PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) from BV, a kidney infection, and a 7 cm cyst on my ovary. I was prescribed Flagyl dose 500 mg 3x a day and doxy 100 mg 2x a day. I have felt like these were actually harming me so much. Constant fatigue, awful taste in my mouth. If I didn’t eat with it, I would throw up. The nausea was constant. The thought of food even made me nauseous. I was constantly anxious and worrying and also had a constant headache. Fixed the problem, but definitely the worst two weeks of my life."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I took this for BV along with an oral medication for a mild yeast infection. I wasn't even having symptoms for the BV, just found out with an annual PAP, but the side effects are brutal. By day 2, headaches and dizziness. Day 3-5, extreme fatigue, weakness, major head fog, loss of appetite, and though I already suffer from depression and anxiety, this medication seemed to make it so much worse. Seeing as though I didn't experience symptoms for the BV in the first place, I'm not sure if the medication is worth the side effects. I would ask for a better option."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I would NOT recommend this crap to my worst enemy! I've never taken medicine that made me as sick as I am. I was prescribed metronidazole to take twice a day for 7 days. It caused very bad headaches, mild fever, a horrible taste to cold drinks and foods, vomiting nearly 12 hours straight, nausea, diarrhea, ugh!! I'm on day 6 and I honestly can't wait until my last day tomorrow. It also caused a yeast infection. I just feel horrible. Like, why do they even have this medication on the market? I don't know how I'm going to take my 2nd dose for day 6 because I feel too queasy. I just want to get back to my normal self. I'm restless!"

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I can't express enough how much this pill has helped! I'm taking it for BV. My symptoms were gone by day 3. I should add that I have severe allergies to many strands of antibiotics (I'm talking epi-pen type allergies). For me to be able to take this with almost zero side effects is amazing. I had a slight headache day 2, and I sort of feel like I'm always hungry, but I would take any side effect for 7 days over the smell of BV!"

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I was prescribed Flagyl for 7 days, 3 times a day. It is awful, this medicine has kept me with a headache, nauseated, and vomiting. Today is number 6, and I'm dreading the last day. I just want to be normal again!!"

For Dental Abscess "Developed a pretty nasty abscess around my tooth. I left it until the pain was so unbearable I had to keep my mouth open at all times to avoid anything touching my front tooth. Three days of no sleep and no food before my dentist prescribed a 250 mg course of metronidazole for 5 days as there were no signs of decay in my tooth, and he didn’t want to have to fill it if it could be avoided. Pleased to say metronidazole cleared the infection within 3 days. After one day, I could sleep and eat soft foods, and after two, I could go back to eating foods I needed to bite again. Now, after four days on the treatment, only some slight swelling remains, but it gets less and less noticeable every day. Having a follow-up to check progress soon. As for side effects, I experienced some headaches and drowsiness, which was to be expected and I was warned might happen. Also, one night of rather intense night sweats. I wouldn’t hesitate to go back on this drug if necessary in the future."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "This medication worked wonders! I was a little skeptical about it from doing research, but with anything you Google search, if you dig around long enough, you will eventually find something scary. I have had no diarrhea while on this medication, as some of the complaints were mostly about diarrhea, nausea, headaches, and cramps. Let me tell you, drink PLENTY of water! Don't drink soda, tea, punch, etc. I mean straight-up water! I also picked up Kefir; it's a cultured low-fat milk smoothie. It will do wonders for your stomach! I also took Zantac 150 mg 30 minutes before taking the Metro pill. The only side effect I have had was a tender tongue under my chin. P.S. If your urine is dark (a common complaint by most), you need more water, people! Hope this helps you!"

For Dental Abscess "I was prescribed this medicine at 500 milligrams twice daily. At first, my infection seemed to get better, the pain decreased. I noticed some shortness of breath within the first couple of days. By the third and fourth day of taking this medication, I had muscle aches over my entire body, joint pain, would wake up in the middle of the night with a severe dry mouth, headaches, and a bad rash that was extremely itchy and Benadryl would not relieve. Now, on my fifth day, I have decided to discontinue this product because the muscle pain and itching are far worse than the infection it is treating. I believe this is possibly a good medication, however, I believe maybe I should have been given a smaller dose."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "I've had bacterial vaginitis for years on and off. I really have never taken any serious medication because I prefer to do things naturally. I can say that candy triggers my odor a lot, but I've tried to cut back, and the odor still exists. I finally got tired of the odor and excessive discharge and was prescribed Metronidazole 500 mg by my Dr. The first day, no change, the second day, no smell. I was so excited I had to tell people. I was so in bondage by the bacterial vaginitis. I haven't had any of the symptoms listed! I was fearful at first because I always feel like pills are going to make my heart race, but it was fine. No headache, no drowsiness. I ate a meal with every dose and drank plenty of water. This is my third day, and I am supposed to take medicine for 7 days. It works."

For Bacterial Infection "Metronidazole is the only thing my doctor gives me that actually works for BV. She also gives me Diflucan to counteract the yeast infection that Flagyl causes. I do okay the first few days, but by day 5 or 6, the nausea is intense. Headaches as well. I do better not eating my usual yogurt in the morning, as I found dairy products made the nausea worse. Diffusing peppermint oil helps me with nausea and headache. Last year, I was on a 14-day course of Flagyl that resulted in really bad oral thrush. Doing boric acid tablets vaginally has helped keep BV away. I never had BV until after vaginal surgery, and now it comes every 6-12 months."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "I only took it for 2.5 days. The adverse reaction was horrible: severe nausea, the worst taste in my mouth, and headache. Lasted for over 2 weeks. I ended up in the ER because of this medicine. I would never take it again."

For Bacterial Infection "Never in my life have I been so ill. I was taken into the hospital 8 days ago with suspected PID. After the results came back as clear, the docs were stumped but still made me carry on with my meds. I have a scan in 3 days, but I can honestly say these tablets have completely knocked me off balance. Headaches, nausea, sickness, anxiety, insomnia, not being able to get comfortable, no appetite, the metallic taste, and most of all, the lower back and lower abdominal pain. I stopped taking the tablets over 24 hours ago, and all of the above has gone completely. Never in my life will I touch these antibiotics again. EVIL!!"

For Helicobacter Pylori Infection "I have really bad headaches taking this, and it's only my second day on this. I also feel very, very tired and have a heavy and foggy head. I feel dizzy as well. I feel a little sick, but not too bad, and I have a funny taste in my mouth. I have another 8 days of taking this and just hope I don't feel worse, or I might have to stop. I also have stabbing pains in my belly, which I never had before."

For Bacterial Vaginosis "On metronidazole for BV, and my dose is 2x daily oral for 7 days. Fine the first 3 days, and then day 4, extreme headache and nausea to the point of vomiting, and day 5 still hasn’t gone away. Afraid to take another dose, but I really need the BV to go away, so I guess I will need to stick it out."

For Dental Abscess "On metronidazole for the 3rd time in the last few months (I completed all the previous courses prescribed) and had a tooth extraction of my back tooth following a failed root canal. I have been prescribed metronidazole again as I know amoxicillin would not touch the ongoing abscess... I am on my 3rd day of metronidazole 400 mg thrice a day and no signs of the abscess settling down, and I don't think I can deal with the side effects anymore. I have a headache, feeling spaced out, moodiness, and trouble sleeping for the last 2 days. It's 2:40 am, and I am wide awake and have not had a good night's sleep the night before... I just can't bear the idea of being in too much pain over the Christmas holidays and hoping the abscess will drain now that the tooth is out."

Metronidazole for Bacterial Infection "Pathetic medicine. I was prescribed Flagyl 400 mg, 3 times a day for 3 days. After day one, I felt the side effects immediately. Tiredness, fatigue, headaches, and increased sensitivity being the major ones. The worst part is, after completing my course, I'm still feeling the side effects. Sensitivity to light has increased along with dizziness and fatigue!"

For Bacterial Infection "I had a root canal done and was put on metronidazole. I hope never to need to take this medication again! Normally, I deal with depression, I use medication and prayer, so I am 'normal.' I get real bad headaches once or twice a month. When I took this medication after having a root canal done, my depression got worse no matter what, headaches all day, every day and night, could not sleep, and dizziness. I will think twice before taking it again!"

For Trichomoniasis "The taste is absolutely terrible! It's so strong and disgusting! If you let it hit your tongue, you're screwed! What I do is take it with a huge glass of milk, fill your mouth up with milk, drop it in, and swallow! Sometimes it works and you don't taste anything but milk, but sometimes it floats around and hits your tongue! Besides how bad it tastes, I get super dizzy after taking this pill, almost immediately I am dizzy and nauseous with a nasty headache! Of course, it helps if you eat beforehand, but the lightheaded, dizzy feeling isn't fun at all! Feels like I have my eyes crossed, it's painful. Although the side effects are horrible, I do have to say within hours the discharge completely flushes out, the smell goes away, and you're back to norm!"
