"I was prescribed metronidazole 400 mg after the extraction of an infected wisdom tooth. I was taking amoxicillin prior to the surgery and for 3 days following the surgery, however, the infection continued to spread and my whole face was swollen. On returning to the oral surgeon, I was prescribed metronidazole, which began to take effect and reduce the infection after 2 days. I have experienced no adverse side effects from taking this medication."

"Post wisdom tooth extraction - infection in bone in jaw (ouch!). My face was up like a balloon - these nasty tasting pills took swelling down in 8 hours and pain gone completely in 24 hrs. Miracle pills for me. Dentist wanted to give me amoxicillin, which I am allergic to as sensitive to most drugs. These pills make me tired a little, but in my health, I have not felt this good for years - have a feeling they might be treating an underlying nasty such as a yeast infection that was making me feel rubbish. One upside of a tooth extraction."

"Did anybody else get an extremely sore mouth/lips from this? I’ve been taking it for a week to treat a jaw infection and failed tooth extraction pain, but the inside of my lips and tongue are so sore."

Metronidazole "Broke my big toe (tip completely fractured). Had to have toenail removed as in-office surgery. Had two meds prescribed: Flagyl 400 mg and Flucloxacillin. Redness in my eyes and a bit woozy on my feet. Eye pain on top and back of eyes on the second day. Sleep well... too well. Stayed sleepy throughout the day. With the prospect of a 9-day course, I have contacted my doctor to ask to stop. I want to thank drugs.com for their information, as I may not have associated this medication with the Xanax I was supposed to start today. Thanks, guys!"

"I was prescribed Metronidazole by my dentist to treat an abscess on the root of my tooth. 1 tablet 3X a day, spaced 8 hours apart. After the first full day of taking it, I felt extremely sick, and after my sixth dosage/second day, I became really unwell with a bad stomach, stomach ache, nausea, and vomiting. I’ve now been prescribed erythromycin, which I’ve previously taken for other tooth infections - just hope it starts to ease the pain soon as I’m five days into the infection."

"I had my lower wisdom teeth, one molar out Friday afternoon. By Sunday, my pain was worse. Monday got even worse. Saw the dentist on Tuesday, prescribed metronidazole, pain has eased slightly, expecting full recovery in the next couple of days."

"Prescribed metronidazole 400 mg 3 times a day for a severely infected dry socket. Side effects have been headachy, eye pain, very sleepy, but nothing bad at all. Take with a glass of milk before and a little after, and no stomach side effects."

"I had an infected dry socket following a tooth extraction. The dentist prescribed a 200 mg tablet to be taken 3 times a day for 5 days for a dry socket. I had to discontinue the course after the 4th day because the latest reaction was a peculiar feeling in my legs as if I had run a marathon, accompanied by feeling very wound up. Other reactions during the preceding days were varied and changed almost on a daily basis and included a metallic taste, sleeping more than usual, diarrhea, loss of appetite, feeling queasy (though I was feeling queasy with the infection before I started the medication), a painful flare-up in my psoriasis, heavy head. Since stopping them 3 days ago, the metallic taste is still bothersome. I'm now having palpitations, maybe unrelated! Tooth seems okay though."

"I took two 400mg tablets at once (because I wasn't sure of the dose), and a half hour later developed severe restless leg syndrome! It was definitely caused by the tablets. I never would have thought!"

"After reading some reviews here I expected a load of side effects. Apart from slight diarrhea, I’ve had none. And the drug seems to be working to dispel the pain and swelling."
