Metoclopramide for Migraine "Went to the hospital last night for flu-like symptoms. While I was there, I experienced a sudden migraine. When I told the Dr., he decided to treat me with a cocktail outside of my usual. He gave me Reglan, Toradol, and Benadryl. As soon as the nurse began to push the meds in my IV, I felt the worst burning sensation ever! After all 3 meds were in, I began to feel closed in, constricted, and overall worse. The nurse ran and got the Dr., and this is when he decided to reveal that the Reglan can make you feel very anxious. He said it should go away in 10 mins or so, and it did, but I will never allow them to give me this medication again. I literally tried to rip the IV out of my arm because of it."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Been combating nausea for a while, doc gave me Reglan to try out (pill form). I think I had to pay for it out of my own pocket, it was quite expensive for a 42-pill box (14 days' worth, 3 pills per day). I took one pill, felt weird, a bit shaky, but nausea went away. Later that day, I took the second pill, started feeling sleepy, more shaky, couldn't sit still. I didn't really connect it to the pills, so later I took the third pill and I think I went crazy when it kicked in. Very anxious and 'I want out of this' feeling. I would never take this drug again. I'd rather throw up."

For Nausea/Vomiting "Please do not take! I wish someone had told me this, and I wish I had read the reviews. This drug, metoclopramide, gave me akathisia, something that I didn’t even know existed. This drug is poison. I couldn’t stop pacing, still restless, have horrible restless legs now, panic attacks constantly, anxiety. It’s been two months since, and still going."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "Just to make others aware, I also had very negative reactions to this medicine. I was given it before a lower back surgical procedure to prevent nausea. Within probably less than 2 minutes after having Reglan injected into an IV, I went from totally normal to hyperventilating and having extreme paranoia almost to the point of hallucinations. I became angry, threatening, and confrontational with everyone around me, including strangers, ripped out my IV tubing, and ran out of the hospital. It wore off about 30 minutes later, and I returned to the hospital and apologized profusely and continued with pre-surgery items. Nurses told me they see similar side effects of anxiety and people 'wanting to leave urgently,' but never as extreme as it was for me. I now list it as an allergy and would warn anyone to stay away from it."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Doctor prescribed this for migraines. Immediately after taking the first pill within an hour, I jumped out of bed and was restless, shakes, had severe anxiety, trembles, and felt like I was going to die. This lasted days - I told my next doctor this, and she then told me that some people do have this reaction. I will NEVER take this again and do not recommend it."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Went into the ER for a migraine that was bothering me and had me leave school early. They didn’t explain much about the drug, but they gave it to me anyway with a combination of Benadryl. It was the worst experience I’ve ever had in my life. I was feeling anxious a few minutes after taking it, but I wasn’t expecting it to become the most horrifying and insufferable experience in my life. I felt like I was coming out of my skin and wanted to rip the IV out and the skin off my body. I had a panic attack that lasted a long time and couldn’t stop freaking out. I remember looking at the nurse and asking her, “What did you do to me?” as extreme paranoia and panic flooded through my mind. A doctor came by and offered Ativan to help. I couldn’t trust them and declined a few times, even though I am really into pharmacology and knew it would help, but my paranoia made me feel like they would give me something else and kill me. I ended up taking it, and it helped."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Well, went to the ER for a massive migraine and vertigo. At first, they gave 1 mg of Ativan, 1,000 mg of acetaminophen, and 600 mg of ibuprofen. Even though it made me feel slightly better, the tightness around my head was still there and the room was still spinning, just not as bad. So they decided to give me 'the cocktail,' which included Compazine, Reglan, and Imitrex. After about 15 minutes, I felt so restless, like I needed to keep moving my body. I thought it was the combination of all the damn meds, but then I stumbled onto this website. Now I know it was the Reglan. Anyway, I was sent home with a prescription for Reglan and was told to take it with Tylenol and Advil for migraines. Well, the first night I took it, I was up all night fighting against the worst anxiety attack I've ever had. It lasted all night long. Never again will I take this medicine."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I was in the hospital for severe nausea/vomiting and was given Reglan through IV to help. I have a fear of needles, so I had my anti-anxiety medication with me. Within a few minutes of the administration, I felt like I was going to jump out of my skin or die. I nearly ripped my IV out of my arm, and I had to have my fiancée go get a nurse to rush through the discharge. It did help the nausea, and I took an anti-anxiety pill, which kicked in enough after about 45 minutes for me to be coherent again. The panic on the ride home as a passenger was so bad, it gave me a lasting discomfort of being in cars. I will do everything in my power to never take this medication again. I'd rather puke my guts out."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "PLEASE do not take this medication!! If you go into the ER for nausea and vomiting and they tell you they're going to administer this medication into your IV, tell them absolutely not! I suffered from Hyperemesis Gravidarum for the first 3 months of my pregnancy that landed me in the ER five times, and I had to be put on IV fluids. The first couple of times they gave me Zofran, which worked the first and second time, and then it just started making my nausea and vomiting worse. The next couple of times I came into the ER and I told them the Zofran was making me feel worse, they decided to give me Reglan, and oh my god, I had never felt this way from a medication before. After ten minutes of them giving it to me, I started shaking and feeling the worst anxiety I've ever felt, and I have an anxiety disorder. I wanted to rip my IV out of my arm and run out of the hospital. I remember I started looking at my IV and trying to figure out a way I could remove it myself without injuring myself."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I was in the hospital for 'Hyperemesis Gravidarum,' severe morning sickness and was given Reglan through IV, and right away I was telling my sister I have to get out of here. I couldn't sit in the bed, I was forcing my eyes shut to escape the rush of anxiety rushing through me. The whole ride home, I was telling her I wanted to jump out of the car. Listen to reviews!!! Take care."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "I received this medication for nausea while 39 weeks pregnant. I initially received Zofran, and when that didn’t work, they gave me Reglan. I was not informed of the side effects I would feel. I have really bad anxiety when it comes to side effects after receiving Benadryl through IV 2 years ago. My IV site was infiltrated, and the Benadryl leaked into my bloodstream. Since then, I’m anxious about receiving anything other than fluids through IV. Anyway, they gave me the Reglan. After 10 mins, I was inconsolable. I couldn’t find a comfortable spot. I started to breathe faster, I felt under the influence almost. An extreme panic attack. I was trying to keep myself from shaking. I got chills. I told my husband to hug me (he usually does this when I have an anxiety-induced attack). He had to hug me for 15 minutes. If he let go, I just kept getting up and down. I wanted to cry, I felt like screaming, I felt like jumping out of my own skin. I kept telling myself to relax. It was crazy."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I have Crohn's disease and was prescribed metoclopramide a while ago for nausea. However, I've not felt nauseous for a while. Last night, I felt awful and remembered I had these tabs. I took one 10 mg tablet. It did stop the nausea and I didn't vomit, but I had the worst night's sleep with hallucinatory dreams, feelings of anxiety, and restlessness. I have been in bed all day today feeling drained but still restless."

For Nausea/Vomiting "I always have adverse reactions to metoclopramide! It causes me to feel restless, jittery, anxious, and vomit more, these effects last 24 hours. Zofran or Doxylamine for nausea and vomiting are better options for me that do not have those awful side effects and work well like they should!"

Metoclopramide for Migraine "Horrible, it’s been over 2 years, and I swear I have PTSD from it. I had it twice. The second time the nurse told me it was probably injected in the IV too quickly, that’s why it caused panic. She did it slowly, and within seconds the same thing happened: panic, anxiety, like my body was going to go nuts, but my head hurt so bad, and I felt sleepy, so it was this crazy internal battle. I’m afraid to take any medication now or go to the hospital with severe migraines, so I just suffer. How can these even be allowed to be administered to people? Worst experiences of my life."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "I’ve had migraines for over 30 years. It took a few ER visits for me to realize that Reglan took away my nausea, took the edge off my pain (never completely took it away), but made me paranoid and anxious!!!!! I tell them I’m allergic because I will never take it again. Toradol is great! The injection burns, but the migraine relief begins in less than 10 minutes. Pain is gone in 20 minutes. I ask for it by name!!"

For GERD "I was prescribed this drug, metoclopramide, for persistent GERD/functional dyspepsia symptoms. It worked beautifully within a matter of days. I was taking it 3 times a day. I started feeling a little anxious a week or two after starting this drug, but I didn’t put two and two together. I was on it for 6 weeks, 4 of which were plagued with anxiety and not feeling like myself at all. After doing some research, I realized it could be a side effect from the drug. I quit cold turkey on Jan. 1, 2021, and had horrible depression for 2 days, followed by anxiety for 2 weeks. I thought it would never go away after reading some other reviews online. I’m happy to say the side effects do go away and to hang in there. This drug does wonderful things for some people but causes debilitating side effects for others. I recommend trying something different. And if you’re in the middle of an anxiety or depression spiral since coming off of this drug, please trust that it gets better."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting "Was given Reglan to help with nausea from antibiotics and felt soon after taking it paranoia, anxiety, and like I wanted to die. This was totally uncharacteristic of me. I called the pharmacy and asked if this could be a side effect. She told me I may be having an allergic reaction and to take some Benadryl and call 911. I took the Benadryl and fell asleep. I didn't call 911. When I woke up, I was fine and back to normal. Have never taken Reglan again."

Metoclopramide for Migraine "I was given part of my migraine cocktail in the ER via IV. They said it would make me anxious, but the IV Benadryl would help counteract it. LET ME TELL YOU, IT DID NOT!! I am an RN and have given this med IV push, I had no idea it could make you feel like this!! I wanted to crawl out of my skin, I could not breathe. Anxiety is an understatement. I even had residual anxiety days later and still feel anxious thinking about it now. I had shakes so bad."

Metoclopramide for Nausea/Vomiting, Postoperative "OMG. Went to the ER anxious about my pain, but it was tolerable. Dr. ordered fluids, Benadryl, and Reglan through an IV. First, the nurse came and gave me the first two and said she forgot the Reglan, she’ll be right back. The nurse came back and injected the Reglan. HOLY MOLY. It took a minute, but seconds after the ultrasound tech came in to grab me. I told her, while walking down the hall, I felt extremely dizzy and I wanted to pass out. She laid me down on her table and impending DOOM set in. I felt the most anxious I’ve ever felt, she told me, 'What did they give you?' and I said Reglan. She admittedly said, 'Oh no, here, let me speed up your fluid bag and let’s flush it out ASAP.' I said, 'Ok,' as I panicked on her table. I never felt anything like this. I have anxiety, but this was awful. She put a cold face cloth on my head and gave me 10 minutes. It worked. I had a racing heart. Sweaty, dizzy, I just couldn’t move. Never again. Apparently, this is super common. I was close to walking out of the ER."

For Migraine "I was given the IV 'migraine cocktail' also when in the ER for a severe migraine. The nurse told me the Benadryl could make my chest feel heavy and possibly anxious. Benadryl was pushed slowly via IV, and I started feeling relaxed and sleepy. THEN came the Reglan! After the Reglan was administered, my relaxed, sleepy state reversed, and I felt like I wanted to rip the IV out of my arm. I felt so hot, like I was boiling from the inside out. I was so nauseous, my heart rate went way up. I was in full panic mode, feeling like I made a huge mistake!!! I told my husband to get the nurse, and when he finally found him, he did nothing for me except tell me to calm down! Ugh... Never again will I put myself through that. Reglan... NO THANKS!"

For Migraine "I unfortunately just went through all of this again this past Saturday. The same wave of terror hit me as soon as they started the “migraine cocktail.” I even told the guy I’ve been through this before. I think I have a bad reaction to whatever drug you’re giving me. He then said I was probably just a Reglan, it tends to give people jitters. I said no, this is not just jitters, it is a full-blown panic attack. Is there anything you can take to counteract what you just gave me? And he just said no. We can’t give you anything for jitters here. Four hours of anxiety feeling like I’m freezing, having to pee every few minutes, diarrhea, heart racing, trouble breathing, feelings of doom, and the thought of wanting to run out of the hospital-all of these feelings came back. Why are they giving people this medication and not explaining the side effects?"

For Nausea/Vomiting "My daughter is 8 weeks pregnant and was prescribed Maxolon for morning sickness. A few hours after taking it, she had a feeling of anxiety and couldn't concentrate on anything. She was wandering aimlessly around the house, not knowing what to do. She would try to sit down but couldn't settle. Later that day, she experienced a full-blown panic attack. Couldn't breathe, trembling, cramps. She went straight to her doctor, who did not connect the symptoms to the medication. Her husband asked them to call the ambulance, however, the hospital did not make the connection either, sending her for a CT scan and blood tests. Over the next week or so, she was in a constant state of anxiety, unable to care properly for herself or her son. Unable to drive or be left alone. She had 2 more visits to her doctor, who diagnosed panic disorder and referred her to a psychologist. After doing our own research, she has stopped taking Maxolon and is beginning to feel normal again."

Metoclopramide for GERD "I was prescribed this medicine for GERD. I had not been able to eat or drink anything for a couple of days, so I was feeling pretty terrible anyway. After I started to take this medicine, I became extremely depressed and anxious. I could not stay awake for more than 20 minutes at a time, and that entire time I was so nauseous I didn't want to be awake. I had terrible back pain, and I was shaking like I had been out in the Arctic. Finally, my dad told me not to take the Reglan and to see what happened. I skipped my 10 P.M. dose and woke up about 10 A.M. the next day. I felt completely fine, other than my back was still sore. I lost three days of my life to this drug, and I can't believe a medicine that is supposed to help you can do so much harm."
