For Female Infertility "So the purpose of my doctor putting me on this medication was so that I’m able to ovulate. She said my lack of ovulation may be caused by PCOS, but she’s not sure because I don’t have any of the symptoms except for not ovulating. So far, I’ve only been on this for about 3 days now. I’ve had stomach aches here and there, but lots of trips to the bathroom. Today, after the 3rd day, I noticed when I was done using the bathroom I was spotting. I find this really strange because I have already gotten my period this month… Is this normal? Right now I’m on a dosage of 750 and will increase to 1500 next week. My goal is to ovulate so that I’m able to have a baby :) Will keep you all posted."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I've had PCOS since I was 17. Now I'm 32, and I've been on metformin for 3 months. I get really bad stomach aches and cramps to the point that I feel like I'm going to be ill. I also get heartburn almost every day and bad diarrhea several times a day. The side effects never seem to improve. I'm on about 1000 mg to 1500 mg a day. I don't get my periods at all. Been prescribed Clomid to ovulate, but haven't started yet as I'm a bit nervous."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I recently got put on Metformin the 31st of August, so it has been about 7 days. I have horrible diarrhea, upset stomach, loss of appetite, and fatigue. I gained almost 70 pounds in 2015 due to PCOS. I am hoping this medicine will help with weight loss and getting things back into control."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I'm 25. I haven't had a regular menstrual cycle in years. After TTC for going on 5 years, my husband and I decided to take the next step in seeing a fertility doctor. I was diagnosed with PCOS. I took Provera for 10 days to induce my period, and once it started on CD 5, I was put on metformin 500 mg for 3 weeks: 2 in the morning, 2 in the afternoon. I've had side effects like stomach cramps and diarrhea (sorry, TMI), mood swings, and a little decrease in appetite (no weight loss). I'm now on my last day of taking this, and I'm not sure if it has helped. Hoping for the best. Good luck to the rest of you ladies that are TTC."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "I was prescribed Metformin in combination with Clomid - not sure if it's working yet. It has upset my stomach whether I take it with food or not. Other than that, I haven't experienced any side effects."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "Was having good results with no side effects for years until the drug companies wanted to produce it at a cheaper cost. Drugs are now mostly made in India and China. I am extremely allergic to some of the inactive ingredients. Stomach issues, body rash, swelling, and bleeding skin around the eyes and leg pain. I am now forced to use metformin in a liquid form that is made at a local compound pharmacy to avoid impurities at a cost of $70 a month for a twice daily dose."

"3/27/2025--I've been taking Seroquel for years for my bipolar disorder, and it resulted in a lot of weight gain. My doctor prescribed Metformin XR for weight loss in June 2023 when my weight reached 237 lbs, and I wanted to try Ozempic. I started with 500 mg a week and gradually increased to 2000 mg a week after my evening meal. By the end of September of that year, I had lost 10 lbs! Metformin has been a lifesaver for me and really works! I now weigh 208 lbs! And this is without exercise. It does curb my appetite, and I even skip doses because of this. I'm sure if I exercised and actually had a 'food plan,' I'd weigh much less. The only side effect I've experienced is occasional loose stools and stomach discomfort."

For Polycystic Ovary Syndrome "Guys I'm telling you! Please stay away from this medicine. I took my first dose of 500 mg, and 6 hours later, I woke up crying with horrible stomach cramps and diarrhea. I literally was about to call the ambulance, I couldn't bear with the pain anymore, so please stay away!"

For Type 2 Diabetes "I have been taking metformin for five years. I would have little stomachaches, but I wasn't bad, it would control my diabetes. However, I had to stop taking metformin because I started having upper G.I. problems and sweating really badly. I have been off of metformin for almost two years."
