Liraglutide for Type 2 Diabetes "I started this on Thursday, December 12th, on 0.6. I am supposed to see how it goes for a week and then increase the dosage to 1.2. The doctor warned me of suppressed appetite and stomach pain/cramps. I feel both, but the stomach pain is odd. It's more like I feel like my stomach has been filled with something and is trying to burst out. It is temporary discomfort, though. I am set to increase the dosage on 12/19. I am also on Glumetza, two 1000 mg tablets a day and 1 Glimeride a day. Just from the first day of taking it, my numbers went from nearly 400 to 182. I am hoping it gets lower as I'm totally cutting out carbs. I do take cinnamon pills and drink a shot of Nopal juice in addition."

Liraglutide for Type 2 Diabetes "(2/2) from 0.6 to 1.2. I know my digestive system has slowed way down. My doctor prescribed Metonia and Domperidone to counteract these side effects, which seems to be working for me. I also notice my appetite has continued to be low, and I get full very quickly. My blood sugar stabilized with 3-4 days after starting the Victoza, and despite the side effects, I am happy with this medication but hope not to be on it long term as I worry about long-term side effects. I would recommend this."

Liraglutide for Type 2 Diabetes "I have been on this medicine for 5 weeks. At first, 0.6 for the week, 1.2 the 2nd week, and 1.8 the 3rd week. The first few weeks, I was nauseated, weak, just felt yucky. I had a bad headache one day and really bad diarrhea. I do not have a big appetite, eating 1/2 of what I used to eat. Lost 7 lb, I was 201 lb, now 194 lb. I do still get bad heartburn, but other than that, no more stomach issues. I found if I take the medicine at night instead of in the morning, I get no symptoms other than loss of appetite. This is the best medicine I have been on since I was diagnosed in 2009. For years, I was only on pills, and over the last few years, I have been on several different meds. My doctor wanted me to go on Victoza, but I could not afford it. So, I was on once a week Tanzium (stopped working), Levemir insulin, but as soon as my insurance dropped the cost to $80 for 3 months, I was able to get off the insulin and start Victoza. I was gaining weight on the insulin but losing weight now on Victoza. I hope I keep losing."

Liraglutide for Type 2 Diabetes "I have been taking Victoza for about 3 months now. I started on the 0.6 dose and increased until the 1.8 dose. I am very pleased that my A1C went from 11 down to 7, but I am now experiencing some pretty horrible side effects. I have now been diagnosed with gastroparesis, having horrible stomach pains, awful tasting belching, and no appetite. Nausea is constantly present and now taking three more medications to help ease the effects (Carafate, Bentyl, Zofran). I have read many reviews and think I will try to decrease the dose to see if the side effects will lessen. I don't want to give up too soon as my sugar level has gone from the 390s to low 100."

Liraglutide for Weight Loss (Obesity/Overweight) "I started using Saxenda 3 days ago. I was nervous, but it’s been not so bad. Day 1, I felt a bit weird and felt a bit sick and hardly any appetite. I didn’t realize I had gone all day without eating anything, so good news. Day 2, I was belching a lot, no sickness or tiredness, but felt dizzy, but again no appetite to mention. I’m now at the end of day 3. I feel a bit snappy, but nothing else. I feel like me with no appetite. I have had a small meal, and I feel satisfied. I have also lost 3 lbs, so here’s hoping that’s the end of the side effects. I think so far this has been better than I thought it would be. I recommend Saxenda. I take my injection in the morning, same time each morning."

Liraglutide for Type 2 Diabetes "I started Victoza in August 2010 and had severe results with stomach cramping, diarrhea, no appetite, and headaches, which are normal reactions. After a week, I could not stand the stomach pain, and the doctor took me off of it. I lost 10 pounds during that week, and my blood sugars came down significantly. I stayed off of it for about two weeks and then tried it again at the beginning dose of 0.6. The reaction was not as severe, and I was able to continue it. Now I am finding that the effectiveness is not as good even with the higher dose. Has anyone else found this to be true? I have lost about 20 pounds, and my blood sugars are great for me, but I want to continue to lose the weight, which will be good for my blood sugars."

No weight loss and no dramatic drop in blood sugar readings. I'm sticking with it for a while. All of the positive reviews give me hope."

Liraglutide for Type 2 Diabetes "Started Victoza 10 days ago. Lost 8 lbs. in the first 9 days! Also on Metformin 500 mg ER 3X a day. Blood sugars are great! Running between 80-130 at different points throughout the day. Fasting blood sugars running around 70, when they were at 400 before treatment with Victoza. Nausea in the first few days on the 0.6 dose of the Victoza. Nausea has subsided with no other side effects besides loss of appetite, which is great!"

Liraglutide for Type 2 Diabetes "I have been on 0.6 Victoza for the last 7 days. I have had no side effects whatsoever, except for maybe less of an appetite. I have already lost 7 lbs so far, a pound a day! And my blood sugar readings have gone from the 170s to 109. This is a miracle. I only hope that the side effects don't get worse or grow in number. For Weight Loss (Obesity/Overweight) "I read all of the posts before deciding to start Victoza. I was really nervous after reading all the negative side effects people were experiencing. My doctor prescribed Victoza after Saxenda was not covered by my insurance. My first prescription of three pens set me back $250. I now see the website offers a coupon card and plan to try to use that for my next dose. I have had no side effects other than just not being hungry. The first few weeks at lower doses, I would experience hunger in the evenings, but now on a 1.8 dose, I am not hungry the whole day. I did have a bout of sulfur burps after eating eggs, but it was mild. Since Jan 29, I've lost 15 lbs, and I feel great. I will continue on the medicine."

Liraglutide for Weight Loss (Obesity/Overweight) "I started Saxenda at the start of April 2016. On the first day, I wasn't hungry at all and had to force myself to eat. Felt quite the same in the first week, but from then on found myself eating much less. After a month, I had lost about 4 kgs (combined with regular exercise). I have now been on it for just over 3 months and have found the effects of my lack of hunger have worn off. I get hungry, but probably not quite as hungry as I did pre-Saxenda. I am feeling fuller more quickly during meals, and my portions aren't as big, but in the last 3-4 weeks, I haven't lost any weight and have even put on a few cm's. I haven't been exercising regularly since the first month. For sustained weight loss, I think you need to eat healthy as well as exercise."

Side effects include loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, headache, and constipation. I began at 172.4 lbs, currently, I am 152.6 lbs, a total weight loss of 19.8 lbs. I am considering stopping once I am finished with my last pen on this prescription due to the side effects. I am also concerned because I have a thyroid condition and read that this can increase your risk for thyroid cancer. I’m happy with my results, just wish there were fewer side effects to deal with."

Liraglutide for Type 2 Diabetes "Started on Victoza two weeks ago. I've lost six pounds and have not experienced any of the negative side effects - just the decreased appetite. I was taking Metformin 1000 mg twice a day and glipizide (Glucotrol) 10 mg twice a day, and my morning sugars were crazy high, like in the 200s, and the doc was talking about insulin. Then I saw the endocrinologist, who put me on Victoza, and on day 2 my morning bg was 89! Am now off the glipizide and tapering off the Metformin, continuing to lose weight and feeling good! I hope the long-term side effects don't turn out to be bad..."

Liraglutide for Weight Loss (Obesity/Overweight) "I have been on Saxenda for 1.5 weeks now and have felt nothing, except for the first day. I have had no appetite and got a bit burpy. I am a bit worried that this could be my last hope and it may not work for me. So many people say they lose their appetite and have to force themselves to eat, still waiting for this 'full feeling.' Could it be that I am a vegan and already eat low fat and few calories? That's why I have no symptoms? I am the enigma that no one can figure out. I count calories 1000 - 1400 cal/day, eat whole foods, never fast food, and my blood work looks good. I look at food and gain weight. I am the only 'healthy fat vegan.' I really need this to work, I can only hope that I will progress and lose weight as I increase my dose. Fingers crossed."

Liraglutide for Type 2 Diabetes "I've had type 2 diabetes for over 30 years, and until recently, I was only on oral medications. Two months ago, I was put on Victoza to control the increasing blood glucose levels of 18 mmol/l (325 mg/dl) that I was experiencing. The diabetic nurse gave me a 0.6 dose of Victoza, kept me on my daily 2000 mg Metformin, took me off sitagliptin, and reduced my 320 mg Gliclazide to 240 mg/day. My highest blood glucose levels dropped to 13 mmol/l, but when having carbs, it didn't go down to near 6.7 mmol/l. Increasing my Victoza to 1.2 after 2 weeks proved no better, I tried 1.8 Victoza again without success. I'm back to a 1.2 dose plus 2000 Metformin plus 340 mg Gliclazide. Initially, I lost my appetite and felt nauseous with Victoza. What next? (UK)"
