"Was diagnosed with hep c in 2002. Doctor says probably have had it for more than 40 years. Like many have no idea how disease was contracted. Have tried two previous treatments of interferon with no success. Started Harvoni 12 weeks ago, was undetectable after 4 weeks. Have suffered some aggravating side effects since my first week in Headaches, fatigue, brain fog and heart burn. Side effects subsided after three weeks but now have returned after 12 weeks. Got 12 more to go i'll make it through. Not near as bad as interferon. Thanks Gilead for the good work."

"Hepatitis C has been a part of my life for over 30 years now. Having failed treatment with interferon and ribavirin twice ( 1998 and 2005 ) I have been waiting until now for another run at a cure. The new Harvoni one pill a day for twelve week regimen that I'm on is flawless. Currently in week 4 this drug is without any noticeable side effects. What a relief this go round. Previously the interferon was so devastating physically as well as emotionally that I lasted twelve and forty weeks respectively before throwing in the towel. In 2005 after 20 weeks my levels of the virus were undetectable and although I continued the horrid treatment for another twenty weeks the virus returned with a vengeance less than three months after stopping."

"The first week I took this med it kicked my butt. My symptoms were fatigue, nausea, headache and insomnia. I then started to drink a lot of water And I was feeling so much better (fatigue here and there) but nothing you can't handle. Totally worth it!! Drink lots of water to stay Hydrated!!!"

"I think I have had every side effect listed and some not. The swelling of my hands and joint pain, headache, itching, rash, small sores on my scalp but, some of these side effects were short term lasted about a week except the swelling of joints and feeling like my legs weight 100 pounds a piece and the fatigue is unreal but have a hard time sleeping when I wake up is when the hands and joint pain is at it's worst. I've been on Harvoni almost 8 weeks. I go to the doctor today fingers crossed hope to God my blood work is clear and they take me off the Harvoni. I just took it one day at a time praying the results will have made it worth it."

"My dad age 68 has hep c for years, was dealing with cirrhosis of the liver after alcohol issues and dr gave him Harvoni. Please be careful Dr's are not always taking into account if the liver is strong enough when prescribing these meds. Wish I could turn back time and keep my dad from taking it."

"I have had fatigue, headache, insomnia, and the nausea. It is still much better than the interferon, and riba meds. My dr had hoped it would work, and am now hep c free. His words, the only thing I am trying to do is to keep your liver from having cancer. He prescribed 6 months of Harvoni. My liver is eat up with cirrhosis, and will always have trouble with that. That will never go away, but now I at least have a fighting chance of it not getting any worse."

"I only just picked up the prescription today and just wanted to say that I was feeling nervous about side effects but after reading quite a few of your stories, I am now feeling very positive. My specialist is in the Gastroenterology Dept. at the hospital and the hospital Pharmacy supplied them, no cost whatsoever. It's a 12 week course. I thought this tiredness, lack of energy, lack of concentration and the feeling of a foggy brain was from depression, now after reading your stories I realize it's from the HepC. I am so happy to read that all those symptoms disappear while taking Harvoni and that people are now cured. Looking forward to reading more positive stories and watching mine and others progress."

"59 yearold female. I've had hep c for 39years. Geno type 1, cleared the virus 11years ago, after taking interpheron and riboviron. Relapsed after 6months. Viral load of 2,000,000 now. Am now in my 2nd week of Harvoni, and am hopeful. So far my side effects are irritability, fatigue, and insomnia with occasional night sweats. Feels like menopause, but I know it's not. So it must be the harvoni. Hope side effects will diminish."

"Finished 12 week Harvoni 6 days ago on3/20/19. While doing treatment, my heart rate was slower than normal, I couldn't urinate for 3 days. Then I had 2 more kidney infections. Hair loss still. Weight gain with out a change in diet. Minor headaches during treatment. On 3/22/19 two days after completion of treatment, never missed a dose, never took pill more than a couple minutes late, always at bedtime, my BP rose to 185/105 & 179/110. As if this is not bad enough that I have development of a life threatening disease worse than HepC, I now have knots in the back of my calf with severe leg pain and stabbing headaches. Extremely tired and shortness of breath. I felt so good the last 2 weeks of treatment. I really thought I was getting my life back. Now, my life is in MORE Danger than before Harvoni. Disappointed and afraid. Would never recommend this treatment for anyone."

"One month post treatment of 8 weeks. I had quite of the side effects, the mood swings, insomnia and depression were the worst. However, it was well worth it. My side effects wore off 2 weeks ago. I CAN'T STRESS IT ENOUGH, A WHOLE LOT OF WATER MINIMISES THOSE SIDES. This was especially hard for me because actually I don't like water but I had to drink plenty and it worked 95% of the time. Unlike others I actually lost weight due to the lost of an appetite. Before treatment I had the same problem. I said that to say its different for some people. Just in case you happen to experience the side effects. Don't be discouraged you never know how strong you are until you go through it. ITS WORTH IT, I'M NEGATIVE FOR THE VIRUS."

"In 2016, 8 weeks of Harvoni cured my Hepatitis C - I must note that I did have a low viral load; the issue with Harvoni is that during my last week of on Harvoni, I noticed some slight swelling of my hands and within the next few weeks the swelling became worse; I developed a lump on my forearm (later diagnosed a a rheumatoid nodule) and my eye sight became progressively worse - my hepatitis c was cured but my quality of life deteriorated - ANA was negative but rheumatoid factor was high and I could no linger hold a cup; pain, swelling of hands & developed a pilot cataract with my eye sight tested at being 300/20; I firmly believe these developments are directly related to Harvoni - I know I am not the only person this has happened too"

"I began treatment April 27 and am almost done. If I had known how severe the side effects would be I would have opted for another treatment. I have had debilitating headaches, nausea, vomiting and extreme fatigue and can't get my blood pressure under control. It has been dangerously high. The doctors prescribe this medication and then are not equipped to help you with the side effects or have not done their homework and so you're on your own. Too much to say for this text. I would not recommend it."

The last lab came back undetectable. however my doctor wants me taking another 12 weeks due to having cryoglobulins. the only side effect I've felt was being more tired than i already was. basically no side effects."

"I'm 52, female, HIV+, Cancer survivor, Liver Transplant Recipient. I was one of the people who studied this medication through clinical trials. I tried all the other treatments, but none of them cleared the Hep C. During the trials, a slightly different combo of this medicine worked within 4 weeks. As my liver was already severely damaged, I developed cirrhosis, then cancer, then I had a transplant. After 3 months Hep C was detected in the new liver. I was immediately placed on Harvoni. I've cleared within 4 weeks again! I do have side effects. The main one is headache. Then nausea, slight fatigue and the occasional throw up session (which lasts only a few minutes, then I'm fine). I do get a dizzy feeling, but it is not a problem at all."

"I took the full twelve weeks of Harvoni. I was concerned ,as most. about the side effects. I was lucky and did not have any side effects at all, unless you consider having more energy a side effect. I was religious about taking it the same time every day. I planned my day around it. The best part of all was getting my six month blood test and the test came back undetectable. Don't let money be an issue. If you have insurance use it and get a copay card from the manufacture for the balance. It gives you a great piece of mind when the process is over."

"1month post 12 weeks Harvoni treatment, terrible joint pain in hands and feet, also reported by others post treatment. Hands almost feel paralyzed . Guess even though I've had my 12 week blood test and it showed Hep C negative Can't wait to see what my results will be after the 12 week mark. Post Harvoni problems are not readily available but I know this is toxic medication and may have long lasting medical issues long term"

"I took Harvoni for genotype 1a over a year ago. During treatment, I had an increase in fatigue, not much else for side effects. But after two months, I felt my vision was worsening, and so stopped treatment after 9 1/2 weeks. (I was in the cohort for which 8 weeks was deemed OK.) Shortly after stopping treatment, I had a marked increase in fatigue, and shortly after that began to have severe low back pain, which persists a year later. The pain appears to be due to a lactic acid buildup due to a mitochondrial dysfunction. I am at this point quite disabled due to chronic pain and fatigue, and wish I had just lived with the hep C."

"I am age 24, I believe I contracted Hep C through IV drug habit. I thought my low energy and brain fog was because of the many drugs I have done. I had the virus for 2-4 years unknowingly. I finally got a checkup and came back completely healthy except for having Hep C. I workout and eat healthy all the time. My viral load was under 15,000 (very low). I was put on harvoni 8 week and was tested the last 2 weeks of treatment and came up negative. The medication eradicates a resilient virus from your body. Harvoni definitely has side effects do not let any doctor tell you otherwise. The medication is extremely effective however and the trade off for mild discomfort is well worth it. I am now a few months clean of Hep C after taking Harvoni"

"I must have gotten Hep C back in the 70s when I shot heroine for a fun experience. What a jerk when I found out about 10 years ago that I had Hep C. I was involved in a trial using interferon injections that was a disaster and the study was discontinued because it did not work. It destroyed my thyroid, I lost my hair and got really sick. I just started on Harvoni today and appreciate reading all your experiences as I'm a bit scared, I'm glad that I'm getting the Harvoni for free. No side affects so far except gratefulness."

"I took Harvoni for 60 days. 100% cured. Took this drug after going through a bad time for 1 year on Peg with riboviron cocktail. That sucked and it did not work. No real side effects at all with Harvoni. One pill a day and done. Do it. It changed my life."

"My lab work came back that HCV not detected after 6 months of treatment. I believe I am cured. Had Hep C Genotype 1a for over 35 years. Previous treatments did not work. Started Harvoni/Ribaviran last March for 16 weeks. Minimal side effects compared to hair loss from previous treatments. I could have continued taking treatment to 24 weeks but insurance would not approve it. Glad that I am cured. Good luck to everyone taking Harvoni."

"Male 68 yrs old. Have had Hep C for 40 yrs, known and felt its effects for over 20 yrs. Positive lifestyle changes in 2015 with wifes cancer brought better health to me unfortunately not to her. She died at end of 2016. Eight weeks of Harvoni in 2018 was all that was needed to end my nightmare with Hep C. After first week immediately began to see results. No more periods of extreme fatigue. Cloudy confusion began to clear. Depression of course. Hair loss you bet. Anger why not? Plenty of other stuff can be added, but I will not blame this drug that has ended my anxious outlook of the future. There were too many other things going on in my life that contributed to that aspect. One thing is for certain though. I don't have to be concerned anymore about what this virus is doing to my organs. I am confident that I will die of something else. Thanks Harvoni. Hep c free for one year."

"I contracted the Hep C virus about 30 years ago. I tried the treatment to kill it about 20 years ago and the side effects were way too much for me so I had to quit. I have been without symptoms for all these years. However, in the back of my mind I knew I had Hep C and it bothered me. About 6 months ago I started having pain in the area of my liver. Thank God I went to see my old liver doctor a few weeks ago because I was worried. He informed me I had gall stones and that my liver looked great. The best thing he told me was all about Harvoni! I started taking Harvoni two weeks ago. I noticed fatigue at days 5 and 6 but now its gone. I seriously feel better now than I have in years. Thank You Havoni creators and staff!"
