"I have been on this med since March 2017. At first, I didn't think much of it. Until recently, I ran out for about a week and was too lazy to run to the hospital's pharmacy to retrieve it. I can't tell you how much of an effect this will have if you have depression and major depression. I was also checked for the gene mutation where you lack folic acid. I guess this was the cure? It definitely helps, and you have to be consistent. I do also suffer from migraines, and once in a while, I'll get those postdrome symptoms. If this was given to you, please make sure to take it. There are some good benefits, friends."

L-methylfolate "I am heartened by the 6 reviews. I have just started on Deplin. I have been on Remeron for two years. I cannot tolerate serotonin-type medicines such as Prozac and Lexapro. Remeron worked beautifully at first, but the effects have slowly worn off, and my anxiety and mild depression returned. I pray Deplin will work for me and I can regain my enthusiasm and joy in life. I am happy for those of you who have been helped. Wish me luck."

L-methylfolate "I take Lexapro 20 mg, which works well for my anxiety but not quite so well for my depression, and I was always tired. I started taking 15 mg Deplin and quickly started to feel more energy. I have more motivation now and just feel better in general. I do have the homogenous C667T MTHFR variant and also had a slight folate deficiency before starting."

"Soon after beginning menopause, I began to wake up after only sleeping for about 4 1/2 hours, and I couldn't get back to sleep. This became a vicious cycle where I worried that I couldn't get back to sleep, which increased the anxiety that kept me from getting back to sleep. My neurologist recommended Nidra Yoga. She also prescribed 15 mg of Deplin. Even though I wasn't low in folate, nor was I taking an SSRI, the Deplin was just what I needed to keep me more relaxed. I also read Learn to Relax by Eugene Walker and did progressive desensitization exercises while visualizing myself relaxing and getting back to sleep. The Savvy Insomniac also helped me understand that I could get back to sleep if I didn't stress about it."

"So we are still learning about methylfolate and its effects in depression, as it's still pretty new (megavitamin), and we're still learning about the role genetics play in the methylation cycle. I noticed a boost after a week on 15 mg, then it disappeared. I kept taking it even though it wasn't really working anymore. Then, after about six weeks, I got a huge boost, and as I was also on Wellbutrin at the time, it was actually way too much serotonin in my system. I think some people need doses much lower than the prescription strength, and it can take a while for the full effect to kick in. It can take a little while to get back to a healthy level, but it can definitely help boost whatever else you're on. Look out for hypomania if you're bipolar."

"My psychiatrist prescribed me 15 mg of l-methylfolate after discovering I am homozygous for the C677T variant of the MTHFR gene. Within a few days of taking it, I had nerve pain throughout my body. It felt like I had the flu, but I wasn't ill. Everything, even my skin, just hurt. I've gone my whole life not having any issues with my MTHFR issue (the only problem I have is OCD/anxiety), so I'm just assuming I'm better off without it. I am considering switching to a regular multivitamin with a normal dose of methylfolate, but no more mega doses for me."

"I started Deplin after having genetic testing and learning I had a gene mutation. After 3 days of 15 mg of Deplin, I developed a raised red rash on both cheeks. From day one, I noticed a huge difference in my mood and depression. I have tried probably 30 antidepressants over the years. After researching online, I plan to get the 7.5 mg dose and cut it in half and start at a smaller dose. As for now, I am stopping it until my rash clears up. Once it clears up, I will start taking half of a 7.5 mg tablet. Hopefully, I won't get a rash from that lower dose. But I definitely recommend it, especially if you have treatment-resistant depression."

L-methylfolate "I started taking Deplin along with my other meds for depressive disorder and CPTSD. It may have boosted my energy, but it caused extreme anxiety. I haven’t felt as panicky while out in public in years as I did while taking Deplin. The anxiety stopped once I stopped taking it."

"Methylfolate has been a great addition to Paxil for me. After about 7 years on Paxil CR, it wasn't working as well for me. Instead of increasing the dose, methylfolate has helped me feel good again. It's important for me."

L-methylfolate "Deplin may have saved my life from menopausal depression. I am heterozygous for the C677T polymorphism in the MTHFR gene, but I never had mood issues until late peri-menopause (2023). In late March, throughout April, and half of May, I experienced serious mood changes related to lower endogenous estrogen. Despite having an estrogen + doctor and good HRT, my mood deteriorated to the point where I went from highly productive and functional to extremely lethargic, unmotivated, exhausted, and deeply emotionally vacant. I felt like a shell of myself. I told my new psychiatrist about the genetic test from 2018, and he recommended Deplin 15 mg in addition to the Lexapro I had started a year before. I was skeptical, but about 3 weeks after starting it, I noticed a significant improvement in my mood, sleep, energy, and motivation, and it remains. If you’re in menopause and having difficulty with your mood, you may want to ask your doctor about Deplin and/or the genetic test."

L-methylfolate "I've gone through deep shit, to the wall depression - had ECT, et al. while on meds. Went off and have NOOOO regrets b/c I finally started having feelings again (after 25 years on meds)... But I went through deep retaliation at work for speaking out against a bully, and the PTSD from that became deeply real only after two lawsuits were settled and every state/federal complaint was successfully settled. I won... but the PTSD won even more. And you think you can find a shrink who looks at alternatives to antidepressants? HA! My only salvation came in the form of my doctor, an internist, who suggested I go to ER b/c of thyroid stuff. While 5 days on a med/surg unit was not free from shit... I got connected with a shrink who prescribed THIS."

L-methylfolate "Terrible! I was on it 3 days while also on Viibryd, and it caused me SEVERE anxiety. I was found to have a compound heterozygous gene mutation, and the psychiatrist thought this should help. Wrong. I also found out through the gene test I cannot take SSRIs. Viibryd is a hybrid SSRI. The combination was bad news for me, and I had to stop the AD cold turkey because the blast of Deplin apparently caused me serotonin overload. Still struggling 4 weeks later. From what I've researched, L-methyl folate should be started at SMALL doses, like 400 mg, NOT 15 mg (Deplin). Lord!"

"I have struggled with depression and anxiety practically all my life. My mother was also chronically and severely depressed, requiring hospitalizations, ECT treatments, and multiple medications with little improvement. I have tried every antidepressant on the market, at least twice, with either only a brief period of improvement or none at all. My PCP suggested we screen for the MTHFR gene mutation and found that I do, indeed, have it. I tried L-methylfolate 15 mg daily for 2 months and wish I could say it made a difference, but it has not."

"I had tried several antidepressants and had either side effects or they didn't work. My psychiatrist suggested L-Methylfolate. My mood lifted and I was not so anxious. There were days, especially in winter, I did not want to get out of bed. I had a positive effect almost immediately. Then it seemed to not work so well. Dr. suggested another pill. I now take 15 mg, one in the morning and another later in the day, totaling 30 mg daily. I've been on the same dose for a few years now. I would be concerned not to take it because I feel so much better. I don't know if insurance covers it. My doctor suggested ordering online. Also, I have not noticed any adverse side effects. I simply feel better, happier. Wish I knew about this sooner, but I'm grateful I have it now."

L-methylfolate "I'm tapering off Prozac and am only taking 2.5 mg. I prefer not to go on SNRIs or SSRIs. I asked my psychiatrist what I could try instead. He suggested Deplin 15 and gave me 12 capsules. I have taken 6 so far, and the only thing I noticed is that it slows my lower GI tract. Hoping for better feelings in the future."

L-methylfolate "If you are taking Deplin because of the MTHFR genetic abnormality, you were misled by your doctor(s). This genetic test is being pushed by the psych field even though it has not been proven. Look up the studies on MTHFR and you will soon learn that most of what you read about are myths. That being said, Deplin does have its benefits."

"So, here goes. I started taking Duplin about five years ago after I found out I was missing sets of both genes. It really explained a lot of what I went through as a teen. I noticed a life-changing difference. I have to explain that I am a young 60 years old. This may or may not hit a nerve with you, but I seriously think that this drug has put my libido in overdrive. Can anyone relate? I am going to cut them in half from now on and see if this helps."
