"I was on a 3-year clinical trial for Afrezza's predecessor, Exubera, in the mid-2000s. My experience was very positive. I was in a fitness phase during the trial that got me up to running half and full marathons, and this at altitude in Colorado. I also was able to climb multiple 14K ft. peaks. I took a regular battery of lung function tests and had normal results in all but one test every time. Doctors never determined why for that one test, but I noticed no physical effect on my ability to push my physical limits. After returning to injected insulin when the trial was discontinued, I am considering inhaled insulin again due to the increasing unpredictability of injected insulin absorption as I get older. It may randomly take effect normally or be missing in action for 2 or more hours, which plays havoc with meals. There are no obvious signs of overuse of injection sites. The ease of use and reliability of inhaled insulin action was a huge plus."
