"I had been taking hydrochlorothiazide for a couple of years. One day out of the blue, I became lost and confused. After being rushed to the ER, it was found that my potassium levels were so dangerously low that it took days in the hospital taking potassium in several different ways to finally get levels under control again. I’ve been instructed to quit taking hydrochlorothiazide for the time being. It’s been an ordeal to believe, first that your kidneys have failed, then next that your heart is damaged! So I’m blessed to be out on the other side and healthy enough to tell my story. Merry Christmas to all!"

"In conjunction with Amlodipine, it worked well to lower my BP, which had been extremely high. However, after 1 year and a half, I began having dizzy spells. About a month after these started, I landed in the emergency room when my heart rate shot through the roof. While teaching, my heart suddenly began racing, and I thought I was about to blackout. I was rushed to the emergency room, where it was found that my potassium was so low, it was affecting my heart. I was immediately taken off hydrochlorothiazide and given potassium for a couple of days. Once off the drug, my arrhythmia attacks lessened and then completely stopped after about 2 months. If you are taking this drug, ensure your doctor is checking up on your potassium levels."

"Having gone through a long list of life's tribulations, high BP and all that entails wasn't surprising. Tried lisinopril several times, still felt general malaise. Went to a cardiologist, everything checked out. I started taking hctz - after a day, I felt great and two months in, still do. Curious now why it works and is it compensating for a lack in some organ. I do not eat processed foods and am a healthy, young woman of 65."
