For High Blood Pressure "Been taking hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene for 10 days. My blood pressure is 106/66 now. I take my BP twice a day. It sometimes runs as high as 160/90. I only take BP med Benicar when BP is high. Also take atenolol 25 mg - 1/2 tablet twice a day for fast heartbeat. I feel good but am wondering if the low BP is okay. Female, 71 years old, 140 pounds, 5'3."

For Edema "The swelling in my feet and ankles decreased over the course of five days, but it interacted with my anti-depressant medication and rendered it useless. I couldn't even force myself to get out of bed. I lost all interest in activities that I had enjoyed. Had to stop taking it."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on it for 3 days, and I am noticing the bloating that some have mentioned. However, since my BP was 200/154 when I was taken to the hospital, and it's now 143/112, I'll take the bloating if I must to still be here with my kids. (I'm only 35 years old, but under major stress, which is what my doctor believes caused such dangerous BP levels.)"

For High Blood Pressure "I've been taking hydrochlorothiazide along with another blood pressure medication. I just recently started the hydrochlorothiazide about 2 months ago. This medication makes me gasp for air at night and also causes my neck near my jaw to hurt, along with palpitations in my heart. Don't know what to do anymore."

For High Blood Pressure "Been on this for about 2 weeks, and it's done a good job of lowering my BP by about 10 points, which I'm very happy with. I have noticed a little bit of cramping, and after reading the rest of the reviews, I'm off to buy some Gatorade right now. Will update if things go south for me. Thanks, everyone, for sharing your experiences!"

For High Blood Pressure "I have been taking this medicine triamterene hydrochlorothiazide 37.5 together with Benicar 40 mg and amlodipine 10 mg daily. My high blood pressure was bad some 5 years ago, and now recently it has improved to normal range since 6 months. But my kidneys are abnormal, so my specialist has stopped me with triamterene and replaced it with metoprolol low dose. To see if it will improve my kidney. Will let you know if it improves. L.P."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been taking this medication for about a week for high blood pressure. My side effects are frequent urination for the first few days. Afterwards, severe abdominal and back pain, cold sweats, constipation, weakness, and nausea. I stopped the medication and emailed my doctor."

For Edema "This drug almost killed me. I lost nearly 15 lbs. in 3 days. No, I wasn't exercising, and yes, most people would celebrate, but I was severely dehydrated and had a headache that would not go away. If you are diabetic, tell your doctor to give you another prescription."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on Diazide for 38 years. My drug store told me they couldn't get the meds anymore, so I got a prescription for Maxide. I took one dose, and I got very sick and weak. I did not take another one. I got online, found another drug store, asked them if they carried Diazide in the Pharma. He said yes. I got my doctor to write me another script. I drove 35 miles and got my Diazide. Mail order now."

Hydrochlorothiazide / triamterene for High Blood Pressure "I was on Maxide years ago when first diagnosed with hypertension, it did not work for me. I was finally put on Dyazide, which had worked for 20 years. I moved to NC, where Maxide is used. While I understand they are supposed to be the same, my BP is 160/90 right now. Maxide does not work for me, and I don't understand why."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on atenolol for years for fast heart rate. But as I've gotten older, my blood pressure has increased. My doctor added triamterene alongside the atenolol. The first day, I didn't feel well but assumed I would feel a little different with new meds. I made sure I drank lots of water. Days 2-4 were horrible. Extremely weak, heart palpitations, chest pain, and overall bad feelings. Went back to only the atenolol. Today is 2 days after stopping, and I feel better as far as the weakness, but my pressure is back up. Waiting for the doctor to give me something else to try."

"I lost all hearing in one ear and most of my vestibular in the same ear. Doctors prescribed Dyazide for probable Meniere's disease. I have been on it for 2 months, and I am on one bad roller coaster ride with it. If I take a full pill, it absolutely kills me-cramps, gout, foggy head, irritable, no energy (even walking is difficult). I have been adjusting the meds as I can, but it is very difficult to dial in. At one point, 1/2 pill every day was working-but still massive side effects. I am currently experimenting with 1/4 pill every day or every other day. It is very difficult, and there appears to be a rebound effect when adjusting down the medicine."

For High Blood Pressure "This pill is great at first, but after taking the drug for six years, I began to develop one side effect, and then I looked at all the other problems I had been experiencing and identified at least 20. All reported to my Dr., who only offered other treatments or specialists that only addressed the symptoms and not the side effects. I experienced severe nerve pain, nosebleeds, bloating, bad headaches, knee joint inflammation, limited mobility, vision loss, hair loss, rash, loss of thoughts, fatigue, irritability, constipation, etc., and not all at the same time but over time. In conclusion, this pill is really no good for me and slowly works you into a pill culture. Do not recommend, completely switched to homeopathic solutions and doing much better."

For Edema "I have high blood pressure and edema. The hydrochlorothiazide definitely made me lose water weight-about 6-7 pounds-but it really seemed to cut sexual desire and often made me nauseous and gave me diarrhea. I had to stop taking it because of the nausea. The night after the first day I'd stopped taking it, my sexual desire returned, but when I got up to urinate, I noticed the veins on my penis were abnormally enlarged. The veins went back to normal after that night. I think I had a reverse reaction when my body tried to adjust to the medicine being out of my system. Probably the water had no escape mechanism without the medication."

For High Blood Pressure "So I have been on and off hydrochlorothiazide for about 3 years. I recently started taking them again on the 25th of October. I was 249 lbs, now I'm 241, so I lost 9 pounds of lingering water weight in 20 days. I find it very helpful."

For Edema "I was prescribed this pill for edema. I took it sporadically, maybe once a week. Then increased to twice a week. I noticed I began having panic attack symptoms. They would come out of nowhere. Inability to breathe normally, gasping for air. I kept thinking they were random panic attacks, of which I'd never had in the past. Last night, I took a pill at 8 p.m. Within an hour, I woke myself up from dozing off in my recliner. I couldn't breathe again. This time it was accompanied by almost a wheezing feeling in my chest. I couldn't walk without gasping for air. I took 2 Benadryl, waited 20 minutes, took another, and all the symptoms vanished. I feel like my A- blood type has made me super sensitive to meds. Ugh."

For Edema "I was taking Maxzide for several years and had to stop, temporarily, for other health issues. Within days, my face was so puffy, I had gained 8 pounds, and then my ankles and feet became very swollen and achy. I sure hope the doctor will let me start taking it again and figure out a different resolution for the other issue!"

For Edema "I've been on this medication for 1 year with no problems. For a month, my legs have been swollen. I've been on Zoloft 25 mg. No reaction. Called PCP, told to go to Urgent Care. Went to Urgent Care, was told to see PCP. I have an appointment in 3 weeks to see a kidney doctor due to acute kidney injury. I am in severe pain, my legs are swollen from the thighs down. Hoping for relief soon."

For High Blood Pressure "I took this medication combo hydrochlorothiazide/triamterene for 2 years, then, all of a sudden, I had really bad shortness of breath. It felt like anxiety. I took a Benadryl and naproxen because it felt like my throat was closing. The shortness of breath went away. Every time I start back on this medication, I get this horrible shortness of breath. I won’t be taking this medication anymore."

For Edema "Both ankles and feet were very swollen; I was told by a cardiologist and a vein specialist that I need an ablation of the Greater Saphenous Vein because the valves were damaged. Instead, I got a prescription from my PCP, and within 48 hours, the swelling in both feet and ankles disappeared. I've been taking half a pill each morning for 14 days, and both legs remain normal as they used to be. I'm going to take half every other day until I run out in about six days. I'm excited to see whether or not the fluid retention returns. There have been zero side effects. I was told that frequent urination would increase, but it didn't increase at all. From my experience, I would recommend this combination script."

For Edema "Been taking Tri/HCTZ only half a tab of 37.5/25 for years to help with hypertension. Take Lisinopril for that also. If I take more than half a tab, get pretty 'dizzy,' anxious, and confused. Does help with the edema, but not quite enough with that low of a dose."

For Edema "I’ve been on triamterene/H (37.5/25 mg) and a low-salt diet for a few months to attempt to reduce pressure in my inner ear due to Ménière’s disease. I’m not aware of any improvements since I started taking it (maybe things would have been worse without it?), but I’ve experienced no problems either, so at minimum it’s been very well tolerated."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been on triamterene 37.5-25 hydrochlorothiazide for over 35 years. Lately, I noticed I need to watch my diet more closely and watch my salt intake. The doctor has been trying to change my medication with no success. I have had no major side effects. I have to make sure to stay hydrated and eat some bananas and other food to keep potassium in balance to avoid leg cramps."

For High Blood Pressure "Been taking this drug for about 5 years. In year 2, started having severe back pain. Last year, was diagnosed with gout that rendered me unable to walk. Uric acid was a 12.8. Had to be put on uric acid-lowering meds due to this drug. Now I only take it every other day. But dieting, fasting, and watching what I eat has made the biggest difference."

For High Blood Pressure "I have been taking this medication for about 10 years. It keeps my blood pressure under control and the fluid off. I don't mind the extra trips to the bathroom because I know it is working; taking fluid off my swollen legs and feet."
