For Acne "I never had acne problems, just a few hormonal breakouts once a month. I had taken another type of pill for 6 years before switching to Tri-Cyclen at the suggestion of my doctor. This has given me terrible, TERRIBLE acne. There has not been one other change in my life, with the exception of switching birth control. I'm in my late twenties, and I am now suffering with terrible acne. I see that most people have positive results, but if you are like me, I want you to know you aren't alone, and some of us just got a crappy deal here. I have decided to stop taking the pill and see what happens to my skin. I will consider another option going forward."

For Acne "I started Ortho Tri-Cyclen 2 months ago, and my heavy acne goes away quickly. I tried mostly all acne medications: doxycycline, tetracycline, isotretinoin, but these antibiotics are more harmful. I decided to use Ortho Tri-Cyclen after having a miscarriage, to prevent pregnancy and to clear up my acne. And it works! Recommend. Bought it for CAD$10.50 at Planned Parenthood."

For Acne "I went on the pill for my acne, and I have to say that for that, it could not be any better. I used to have horrible cystic acne, and it was constant, but after starting the pill, my face is consistently clear. The downside, crazy mood swings. I literally burst into tears for no reason all the time, and I was diagnosed with anxiety and depression, which I never had before I started the pill. I can go from having the best day of my life to not moving from bed for two days in an instant, and that scares me, so I will be choosing not to take the pill anymore, as even though I love having clear skin, I don't want to sacrifice my sanity."

For Birth Control "Cleared up my acne. Increased sex drive. Increased sugar cravings. Worked perfectly for contraception. Regulated my period. No problem getting pregnant after going off. Possibly contributed to developing dry eye syndrome."

For Ovarian Cysts "This birth control has been a truly horrible experience for me. The only positive I can say is it cleared my skin after six months, but for the first three months, I had eczema on my face, which I’ve never had before. DO NOT TAKE THIS IF YOU HAVE DRY SKIN. I was on the lower dose version of this birth control but was having breakthrough, so I switched to this. I still am having breakthrough bleeding. I’ve gained about 10 lbs, and my breasts have enlarged so much it's painful. I have always had anxiety but never suffered from mood swings, and this birth control makes me feel like I’m suffering from bipolar. I am constantly angry, both my family and boyfriend have said I have been acting insane. I don’t feel like myself anymore, I feel like I completely lose my sanity the week before I receive my period. Every month I have had breakthrough bleeding, and twice I didn’t receive my period at all."

For Birth Control "I took Ortho Tri-Cyclen for a few years when I was younger. During the first month, I gained 5 lbs, but that was it. I did notice I was very emotional for the first couple of months, and I was told by others that I got angry or upset easily. However, while taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen, I never got pregnant. It helped decrease my acne, my period went from 5-6 days to 3-4 days, my period was also very light (almost no heavy days), and I almost never had cramps. I switched to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo after, and I was less moody and less emotional, so I guess the decrease in estrogen was better for me, and the pill was just as effective as the regular Ortho Tri-Cyclen for me."

For Birth Control "I have PCOS and worked for years on diet and exercise to regulate my period. But I was never able to get regular to where I could predict it. For about nine months prior, I was taking metformin to help, and I lost about 16 pounds with it. So my gyn recommended taking birth control to help regulate my cycle. My period became regular to between a 22-24 day cycle. However, I had intense bloating and crazy food cravings that I had never had before. My mood swings changed to the point where some months I would be really depressed and down. Around the 3rd or 4th month of being on the pill, I started having severe breakthrough bleeding that lasted between cycles and eventually did go away. Once that stopped, I was experiencing severe indigestion."

For Birth Control "Ortho Tri-Cyclen (in my opinion) seems to be the most effective birth control pill with the least amount of unwanted side effects. I have tried several generic forms as well as the Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo and experienced mild unwanted side effects such as cramping and spotting."

For Acne "I'm a 21 yo female, always struggled with huge cystic acne breakouts. I'm talking mountains on my chin since I was 16. Tried Differin and made it worse, Loestrin and Brevicon were horrible. The first week on Ortho Tri-Cyclen, my skin cleared up faster, and in the first month, I had no breakouts. In my second month, I've had minuscule pimples on my chin, which go away quick and aren't noticeable. I work out a lot, so no change in weight or boobs, and regular periods so far. Super happy and finally experiencing clear skin!"

For Acne "At around 14, I went from beautiful ice white skin to a horrible battle zone on my face. My forehead and chin were covered in severe acne. I tried everything: Murad, Proactiv, you name it. I wouldn't take pics, I was so ashamed. Hard enough being a teen! Long story short, I researched and found that Ortho Tri-Cyclen was effective. I requested it before they were going to put me on Accutane (noooo!), and within 3 months, my skin was CLEAR and still is. I was 17, now I'm 22. Sometimes you have to research for yourself and be your own advocate with doctors. If not, I would have been put on Accutane. The first week you will be a little nauseated on the pill, but it goes away, and your periods are only 3 days long with no cramps! Life saver."

For Birth Control "I first started using this birth control a month ago, and it gave me really bad headaches. I never had acne before, but since I have been on it, I’ve gotten little bumps on my forehead and under my eyes. It also gives me really bad mood swings."

For Birth Control "This birth control had given me side effects from the start: moodiness, weight gain (ten pounds), headaches, nausea. It did clear my skin, which is what I went on it for, however, eight months into taking it, I was admitted into the hospital with bilateral blood clots in my lungs. I understand this may just be specific to my case, but just because it is a low-estrogen birth control does not mean clots cannot happen. Please be aware, and if the risk of clotting runs in your family or you are at all concerned, please talk with your doctor before you take this pill."

For Ovarian Cysts "I've been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen for about 20 years. Works great. I called Janssen manufacturer to confirm it is no longer being manufactured. :-( I have been switched to Tri-Sprintec. This medication is AWFUL. I have filed a complaint with CVS Caremark stating this is NOT a generic to Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Per Janssen Manufacturing, there is NO generic for Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Tri-Sprintec has induced extensive bleeding, cramps, headaches, hot flashes, mood swings, and the list goes on. Do not recommend. CVS Caremark recommended Leena and Ortho Novum 777, they aren't even close to being generics as they have different progestins in them. There has to be a replacement. If one is found, can someone let me know? Thank you!"

For Birth Control "Just some of my background so some of you can relate: I'm 115 lbs, 23 years old, in my third month of taking Tri-Cyclen, which is the first BC I ever went on. So far, thank God, no pregnancies, although an increased amount of discharge, and I got a vaginal infection, which I never had before, and that was strange. At first, I gained weight, and my breasts went up a size, which was great, but now I'm back to losing a lot of weight. Yes, mood swings have increased, but I was always emotional and thought of myself as someone with depression, lol, so you guys really have to be careful about what is really considered to be called depression. Periods have stayed the same, just a little bit more regulated, which is also a plus. So far, no drastic changes."

For Birth Control "I was hospitalized within the first 3 weeks of taking Tricyclen, as I had a severe side effect. It created excess spinal fluid in my body, causing pressure on my brain. This required two lumbar punctures to help drain my spinal fluid, followed by a week of being bedridden. Please, please, please talk to your doctor before taking this. I have never had a problem like this with BC before until I got put on Tricyclen and threw the rest of them out."

For Acne "Ortho Tri-Cyclen did wonders for my severe acne! Although it took about 6 months to fully clear up. Just be patient before you decide it doesn’t work. Unrelated to acne, it gave me way lighter periods."

For Birth Control "Omg, every review is terrible. I've been taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen for 2 years now, absolutely nothing in my life has changed. I went to my ob-gyn today, and I told her that perhaps I should change my pill just because... to try something new. She has given me a refill for Junel? But I am reading awful reviews. But Ortho Tri-Cyclen has terrible reviews too from everyone, I am surprised I haven't had ANY NEGATIVE side effects."

For Acne "Took this for a year with no problems or side effects. It was amazing. I stopped taking any form of birth control for about two years. I took this again for a year, and that's where all the problems came from. I started breaking out more and more each month. I had a rash along my hairline, my jawline, my back, my cheeks. It was terrible. It clears up a little during the 'fake' pills week, but it's the worst acne I've ever had. I stopped taking it for two months, and my face cleared up, so I knew it was the pill. I'm looking to switch to something new ASAP."

For Acne "I went on this BC because I was previously taking Lolo Estrin since that one made me feel like I was pregnant EVERY DAY. I have pretty acne-prone skin, but nothing horrible, mainly my forehead, but my cheeks were typically pretty clear with the exception of a few pimples every so often. Well, when I got off Lolo, I wanted something that could prevent pregnancy and clear up my skin... NOPE NOPE NOPE. This BC broke me out in places I NEVER had issues with before! Now I thought it was my body adjusting, so I gave it 6-7 months and still nothing! Broke me out so bad, constant red inflamed skin, it was horrible, and I was miserable. For my wedding day, my skin was so bad. As soon as I got off it, my skin cleared up a bit, but it just hasn’t been the same since taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Everyone is different, but it just didn’t work for me."

For Birth Control "I was put on this birth control after I had been on a progesterone-only pill, which made my usually clear skin break out horribly. Once I started taking this pill, my skin cleared up. My periods are shorter, and my cramps are less severe. I have had weight gain, but that's more due to my lack of exercise and being in college. I sometimes get headaches during the placebo pill days, but those are easily combated by Advil."

For Birth Control "The first week was fine, then after that, I started getting headaches. Then comes the nausea in the morning, and then I throw up non-stop. With all that, I get diarrhea and dizziness, lack of energy, and appetite. I stayed in bed all day today. It's horrible, the worst I've ever taken."

For Birth Control "I did not experience any weight gain, acne, or physical side effects, and the birth control did do its job (prevent pregnancy). I was, however, very emotionally affected by this pill. I was not depressed, but incredibly overemotional. I normally never cry and keep most things to myself, but cried every single day while taking this pill. Ultimately changed to another BC because, after 6 months, it did not go away."

For Birth Control "Worst ever. Mood swings. Depressed. Doesn't feel like I get enough sleep. I get angry then sad for no real reason. I am also noticing an increase in appetite, breakouts, no energy. This is the most horrible because one is not going to be able to function to lead a normal life. I'm so disappointed that it has caused irregular bleeding."

For Birth Control "Definitely does its job. Light and manageable periods that last 5-6 days. Skin has never been so clear. About 4 pounds of weight gain, which is no problem. But, I am moody. I have always been a happy person, and this pill causes you to snap easily and cry easily. Still rating a 10 because it does its job, and other than mood swings, I have no complaints."
