For Birth Control "This was the first brand of oral birth control I tried. Within an hour of taking it, I experienced awful pains in my uterus and spine. It was my normal period pains x100. I also became so nauseous and sick because of it that I had to take time out."

For Acne "Everyone’s body is different, but in my experience, taking Ortho Tri-Cyclen was the worst decision I’ve made. I gained 25 pounds in the span of less than 4 months, even with a healthy diet and leading a very active lifestyle. The weight gain was crazy and happened extremely quickly. Nausea was also a prevalent, everyday thing when taking the medication. Did I mention the mood swings? I felt like all my energy had been zapped from my body. Originally, I took it to help with my acne, but ultimately it ended up making my acne WORSE! Horrible medication and would never recommend it to anyone."

For Acne "I was on this for 2.5 months and will never go back to Ortho Tri-Cyclen. One huge side effect was that I had very bad nausea EVERY DAY along with migraines. I had so much nausea that I would gag at certain foods, which I’ve never done in the past. I constantly felt full even when I skipped a meal. I can see how that would benefit people who are trying to lose weight, but I’m already relatively thin, trying to stay at a regulated weight. I used this to CLEAR my acne, but it only made it worse—there are now twice as many acne “clusters” than there were prior to taking this. My acne has never been this bad. The only positive about this medication is that it made my periods slightly lighter and it regulated them down to a T."

For Birth Control "I began taking Ortho primarily to help regulate my periods, which are both very irregular and heavy. I typically don't have very severe cramps, so I can't comment on that. However, about a month into taking this, I started experiencing extreme nausea and about weekly vomiting. At the time, I was dealing with a ton of stress/anxiety, so I partially attribute my illness to that. The nausea/vomiting was severe, seemingly random (but commonly occurred at night/early morning), leaving me not wanting to do anything/go out, feeling constantly tired & run down, and with no appetite whatsoever as the thought of food made me ill. About 3.5 months later, I stopped taking Ortho, and I haven't vomited since. Just be careful in trying different BCs."

For Birth Control "Well, I had a terrible experience on this birth control. I won't say it's a terrible birth control because I know everyone is different. But starting off, I experienced mild nausea and mood swings. I was much more snippy than usual and irritable. After the first week, I started getting a few deep cystic pimples, one along my jaw and another on my chin. The worst part was my first menstrual cycle, it was excruciatingly strong cramps, like someone stabbed me, radiating to my legs and stomach. I couldn't walk. Large clots, I ran through super plus tampons every hour. I became so anemic I was advised to go to the ER by my PCP. But overall, I didn't get pregnant. Wasn't worth it to me. I stopped after two months, I couldn't adjust to this pill."

For Ovarian Cysts "I am about to start my second month on an oral contraceptive pill. I have experienced both positive and negative effects, all seem very normal. I have always had a great period - regular, 3-4 days, not too heavy, and hardly any menstrual cramps. My period would only bring awful, very unwanted mood swings. I would always be very emotional and angry. Within the last 2 months, I started to develop ovarian cysts that would rupture, and my doctor suggested I take Ortho Tri-Cyclen. Here are my results. Pros: - Mood swings are no longer an issue (my boyfriend has really noticed the difference in my emotional level) - No weight gain - Goodbye cysts! Cons: (these varied throughout the month) - Trouble sleeping with weird dreams - Nausea - Menstrual-like cramps during placebo week."

For Birth Control "I was first on Ortho Novum 7/7/7, then the manufacturer either stopped making it or it was no longer available. I got switched to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. I was on it from ages 15-23. I am a tiny girl of 5’1” or 5’2” and 90 lbs. From what I remember, Ortho Novum didn’t cause much trouble, but Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo caused me to be severely nauseous on occasional mornings or through the night (depending on when I had taken it). I had some truly miserable mornings dry heaving, gagging, and throwing up. This was usually the case when I had to double a pill if I had missed one. I was so sick and scared one night that I called an ambulance, and I was in the hospital given a morphine drip. At the time, I was young and naive and didn’t want to become a teen pregnancy statistic. I felt the only thing I could trust was an orally ingested pill, so I suffered through it. I was wild and had a lot of hookups and never became pregnant, but I would not recommend."

For Endometriosis "2 stars for predictable periods. Periods were still painful and longer than normal. Nauseous every time I took it, even with food. Constant abdominal discomfort while on it. I felt depressed and unmotivated. I was on it for a year and decided to stop taking it after it was recommended that I take it continuously (skip sugar pill week) because I got a period the 2nd week that was heavy and very painful. As soon as I stopped, the pain diminished greatly and my mood improved. Won’t be going back to this."

For Birth Control "I had been diagnosed with PCOS. I haven't gotten a period in 6 months, so she thought that this could help regulate my cycle. My provider decided to prescribe this BC to me, and after taking it for a week and a half, I have experienced breast tenderness, sore nipples, and my breasts did grow a cup size. But I also experienced mild cramping, like if I'm getting my period, and headaches, nausea, and no appetite. I would not think about taking this BC again because I am starting to feel it's not for me. It works for some females, not all."

For Birth Control "When I first started it, I had terrible nausea and dizziness. I didn’t want to eat so much because of it, so I lost a couple pounds. I stuck with it, and after about 3 months, it completely went away. It keeps my weight regulated, periods, helps my acne stay bare minimum or none at all. I recommend taking it daily with food because no food in your system can cause nausea."

For Birth Control "I've been on this Ortho Tri-Cyclen for about a year now, and the first week I had horrible cold sweats, nausea, and headaches. I powered through them and was fine for a couple of months, but now I am extremely depressed and wake up nauseous every day."

For Birth Control "I switched to this pill from Aubra as it made me break out, and I got headaches from it. I've only been on it for a few days, and I'm already stopping it at the end of the week. This pill makes my heart race and causes stomach pain/cramps. I just got off my period, and it feels like I'm about to get it again. I get extremely nauseous every time I've taken it. The nausea is off and on all day, I feel either super constipated or like I have severe diarrhea. I've had cramps for days straight even though I'm not on my period. One plus, my face hasn't broken out yet. Stopping this tonight, actually."

For Birth Control "I started taking this pill over a year ago, and nothing has changed hormonally for me. In the mornings, if I don't eat at a certain time, I do get nauseated and throw up, but my cycle has always been on time and consistent. Maybe gained 10 pounds most, but with exercise, it helps. I have a very sensitive body, and this is perfect for me. However, it may not work for some people. Worst side effect I've had is not really sleeping, might get five to six hours."

For Ovarian Cysts "Works because ever constant migraine all day, every day, nausea...loss of appetite..breast so sore I didn't wear a bra for a week. GOOD THING! My period started the 2nd day I stopped taking it. No birth control ever worked that fast for me."

For Ovarian Cysts "I have been on Ortho Tri-Cyclen LO since I was 15. I am now 21. I recently tried out the regular Ortho Tri-Cyclen the past month (I know they say it takes about 3 months to fully kick in), but worst experience. I can't even last more than a month on this. I'm going back on the LO. The amount of water weight I am retaining is insane, my feet look like sausages. I'm a solid 125 and a vigorous gym junkie, and I am 132 pounds now and feel like I constantly have a pregnant belly. I go into full mood swings nonstop and in general just feel disgusting about myself. My skin is usually clear, and I keep getting bad breakouts on my face and shoulders. Very nauseous at night as well all the time."

For Birth Control "I'm 18 years old, my period was irregular and I'm sexually active, so I decided to start the pill. I just started this birth control (first BC I've ever tried). The first 3 days when I was on this BC, I got the worst headaches. Then I started to feel depressed and was tired all the time. Within the first week of taking the pill, I got my period, and I got the worst cramps ever-worse than before I was using any contraceptive; tingling/numbness in legs, severe cramps, nausea. But now I don't feel depressed anymore and I don't get terrible headaches. My breasts feel a little fuller than normal-'normal' as in before I started using any contraceptive. I'm on my second week of taking the pill, so we'll see how it goes."

For Birth Control "I absolutely loved Ortho Tri-Cyclen! I was always irregular and had very bad mood swings, cramps, headaches, and nausea associated with PMS and my period. The first couple of months, I experienced occasional nausea and dizziness, but that's to be expected when starting a new hormonal treatment. My periods shortened to four days instead of six or seven, and I was able to pinpoint my periods each month while on the pill. I stopped taking it for a few years, but I'm getting ready to get back on it this next week, and I'm looking forward to it! After I stopped taking it, however, my periods became irregular again after a few months of discontinuing the pill."
