"I used to have horrible period cramps, and my periods were very irregular. The amount of blood was normal, but the fact that I couldn’t predict when I’d be menstruating was very annoying. I talked to my OB-GYN and started taking Mononessa. I didn’t experience any negative side effects; my mood actually stabilized. I already had very clear skin, but I went from getting the occasional pimple to rarely getting them at all. I now use Mononessa for birth control because I’m sexually active and I wasn’t when I began the pill when I was 15. It’s amazing for that too. I take my pills very regularly (every night between 9 and 11 pm) and have had no issues. My boyfriend’s condom fell off last month, and I just got my period today around the same time I got it last month. This pill is a lifesaver!"

"My doctor put me on this medication a month ago in preparation for my surgery, and it has been the worst decision I have ever made! Two weeks into taking Mononessa, I began spotting. I thought, no big deal, the spotting should stop soon. Well, twelve days later, still spotting, so I called my doctor's office and was told that that sometimes happens. Ok. Two days after that conversation, I started having light bleeding with the worst cramping I have ever had! Add to that, I started having lower back pain also. Nothing I took seems to help with the pain. It got so bad that I had to go to the emergency room, I could barely stand up nor lie down! Can't even go to work yet because I'm still cramping severely and need to take narcotics. This med sucks!"

"I'm currently starting my second pack, so I can't give a long-term review of Mononessa, but I still have some pretty important feedback. I'm personally taking Mononessa for contraception, but mostly for my very irregular and heavy periods. Within the second, almost third week, I started bleeding dark brown blood, but only a small amount. As the week went by, it got heavier and red. I am currently still bleeding, and it's been 2 weeks, which is frustrating since my periods usually last 2 to 3 days. What is really nice about this pill is that my body hair has stopped growing, or at least grows very, very, very slowly. It's not spectacular so far, but I'll have to leave a review in 6 months to log some more long-term progress."

"I had talked to my doctor about going on a pill for the heavy periods I've been getting. After talking about all the different kinds of birth control, she put me on this one. The first month wasn't too bad except for the fact that I was overwhelmed all the time and really emotional. My first month, I actually lost weight, but my acne got worse. As instructed, I skipped my placebo pills for the first pack and started my second. Two days into my second pack, I started my period, but it was very light compared to what I've had in the past. Here it is, 10 days later, and I'm still bleeding. I'm going to stop this pill and go get the IUD next week. I wouldn't recommend this pill."

"I was on Mononessa for about 2-3 years. Initially, I started taking it for my unpredictable periods. They'd come every month, but they were nowhere near regular. Now with Mononessa, I knew exactly when to expect my period - it was always 2-4 days after I started the inactive pills. My periods became regular almost immediately. I had no negative side effects from the pills. I had gone on the pill in hopes that it would shorten/lighten my periods, but Mononessa did not do this, unfortunately. The good news is that my doctor gave me the OK to skip periods altogether by never stopping the active pills. I would occasionally miss pills, but never had issues with spotting or breakthrough bleeding. I wasn't usually sexually active on this medication, so I can't speak too much about its effectiveness at preventing pregnancy. That said, I never did get pregnant on Mononessa the few times I did have sex."

"I am having too much unpredictable bleeding on this pill. I am switching to IUD. I truly hope this works because I have had about enough!"

"Before I switched to Mirena, I took Mononessa shortly after my son was born. I loved this birth control up until a year when I realized my periods would never stop. I already had heavy periods regardless, but it would last only a week. I remember passing a week of menstruation, and my period was even heavier and would soak a tampon within an hour. It was terrifying. I consulted my doctor, who told me to stop taking my birth control as it was making my body think it was still menstruating. I stopped taking it, and the next day my bleeding subsided. I switched to the IUD as advised by my doctor, and that's a whole different adventure."
