For Birth Control "I was prescribed Junel Fe 1.5/30 by my fertility doctor in advance of IVF. I took this drug for about 2 1/2 cycles (no break) in total. During the first month, I experienced almost no notable side effects—some bloating, slight headaches, slight nausea, tender breasts, etc.—which are pretty normal. Within the first week of pack two, however, I sunk into a place of what I can only call complete hopelessness. I’m not even being dramatic in the slightest. I had literally never felt so low, so full of absolute despair, in my entire life. I have always been an extremely strong and stable person mentally and emotionally, and even I couldn’t understand why I was feeling so absolutely… hopeless. I would sit in bed and feel like there was no point in getting up. I felt drugged and… awful. Like someone had stripped all the life out of living. AWFUL drug. Beware. This isn’t even listed as a potential side effect. And it IS SO BAD."

For Birth Control "I hated this pill! I took it for a few months and bled for months straight with extreme nausea to the point where I couldn’t go to classes or work because I was throwing up/spitting up constantly. I felt absolutely horrible and nothing helped (ginger ale, nausea medicine, even a nausea prescription). I had no appetite and felt lethargic all the time. I kept waiting it out and got a higher dosage, and it made no difference. I was still miserable."

For Birth Control "Am I pregnant? No. Do I hate my body? Yes. I haven't stopped taking this birth control yet, but boy, I am ready to stop. I'm solely taking it until I can get an appointment with my doctor and switch to something else and am trying not to get pregnant in the meantime. I went on Junel, and in the beginning, it seemed fine, but I got acne out the wazoo in my jaw area and started getting cystic acne around my face that hurt. I gained probably 5 to 10 pounds as well, and my nausea was so unbelievably horrendous that I had to resort to leftover Zofran I had from a prior stomach flu. I went off of it for a couple of months and tried Sprintec, but I had a full-on period in the middle of the pack and bled so much it was unreal, so I went back on Junel in an effort to get that under control and have needed to switch to something new ever since. This was the first birth control I've been on, so I know I still need some trial and error, and I'll be looking into something new."

For Birth Control "I had a terrible experience on this - I was on a similar generic pill, and my insurance/pharmacy sent this instead. Within days of being on it, I had headaches, nausea, mood swings. I also have not been able to sleep through the night in the last few weeks. I have thrown up about 6 times in the 3 weeks I started the pills, and my boyfriend thinks I am insane from all the mood swings. I am switching back to the other generic pill - which I realize you shouldn't be able to tell a difference, but for some reason...I can. What a nightmare."

For Birth Control "My doctor recommended Junel Fe since I have fibroids. Honestly, this birth control didn’t work for me since it made me feel nauseous and bleed the entire month."

For Birth Control "Awful pill! Caused extreme nausea and fatigue and terrible headaches daily. It made me almost impossible to function, after three days, I decided to call it quits. Do not recommend."

For Birth Control "I started so my boyfriend and I could have sex without protection. The first week, I ate so much. My appetite grew that I amazed everyone around me eating so much. The second week, I got such bad nausea I threw up. Third week, I feel a lot better. But I noticed that when I was having sex, I was significantly dry and had noticed my drive to want to have sex decrease. I had a very high sex drive, and I’m usually very aroused. But lately, it seems like sex is a chore, and I really have to focus to try and enjoy it a little. So while the side effects of nausea and increased hunger went away, the lack of desire to want to have sex the first month and dryness was enough to turn me off. My friends warned me about the side effects and that a lower sex drive would happen. I decided to stop taking the pills because while I believe the nausea will go away, the lack of desire, and dryness I don’t think will because of the hormones. So I decided to stop. But at least I didn't get pregnant, lol."
