For Birth Control "I've been on this pill for about 9 months now, and I'm either switching to another pill or just getting off it in general. This pill overall isn't terrible, but I do have a few complaints. It made me gain a little bit of weight, typical. But what really bothers me is the week before I'm going to start my period, I spot for about 2 days. What also bothers me is my period is now 10 days long -_-"

For Birth Control "I didn’t experience nausea whatsoever. I did, however, lose my appetite big time. I had dramatic weight loss. I bled for 2 weeks, and it was just dreadful. I never experienced bad cramps. It did its job, but the constant spotting was a no-no for me. I recently changed to a different brand."

For Birth Control "I started taking Aviane 3 days ago. I chose this pill over others due to the fact I read quite a few reviews and articles that said decreased sex drive was NOT a side effect of this pill. Low sex drive and spotting are my number 1 issues when on the pill. Today (day 3) I started spotting. Sex drive is normal, but if I'm going to spot, I'm not going to be able to have sex. I do feel like my appetite has been kicked up a notch, and I'm bloated. I will come back and update after more time passes."

For Birth Control "On the 3rd day of taking this medication, it caused SEVERE indigestion, which I had never experienced. I ended up in the ER because it also had upset my gallbladder, almost causing emergency surgery. I eat a vegan diet and never had gallbladder trouble; this was the most severe symptom I experienced. I also would get constant, extreme nausea at the same time every day. I also was unable to stay awake at work, or even driving to work, no matter how long I would sleep. I completely lost my sex drive. And lastly, I did experience pretty heavy spotting a few days in; even though I waited until the Sunday after my cycle to start. This medication was clearly not for me, and I stopped taking it on day 8."

For Birth Control "I switched brands to Aviane. I have been taking this for three months now. The first two months were awful. My symptoms were synonymous with pregnancy symptoms, and I even had to take a pregnancy test. I had spotting, awful cramps, weight gain, breakouts, breast tenderness, morning sickness, fatigue, mood swings, and even depression. Now, things are starting to get better. I only get headaches occasionally, painful cramping, and breast tenderness. My skin has completely cleared up, much to my surprise. I am iffy about this brand of birth control. I'm going to continue for a couple more months, and if things get better, I will stay on it, and if things worsen again, I am going to switch."

For Birth Control "When I first started Aviane, I was so bloated, and the nausea was terrible. I thought I was pregnant, but I wasn't. I'm on month 6 now, and I don't feel any nauseousness, and I don't get bloated anymore. However, my mood swings have been terrible! I would get so angry, and I would sob at any cute animal on the internet. One side effect I can't ignore is the hunger. I will eat and eat and eat, and I've gained about 5 pounds. It's like I'm never full. But it's good that I gained weight because before taking the pill, I had no appetite and was slightly underweight. I appear healthier now. I feel a little more sane now, so I'm hoping that the emotional side effect will go away eventually. I also experienced some spotting when taking the pill continuously, skipping the placebos (but that's completely normal). I also had an increase in acne, but that went away quickly. I really do like this pill."

For Birth Control "I have been on Aviane for 5 months now. The first few months were great, no side effects. Maybe I was slightly moody right before getting my period during the first month of starting the pill, but that's pretty much it. I experienced minimal spotting the 2nd month. However, I am now switching to Yaz because this month I missed taking the pill by 1 hour, only 1 hour, and it caused me to have spotting, then resulted in getting my period while still taking active pills. I was concerned, so I think the dose may be too light for me. But I definitely recommend giving it a try, it may work for you. No weight gain, no mood swings, improved but didn't get rid of acne, but this can also be related to the fact that the dose was too low for me."

For Birth Control "I just started taking these pills about a month ago, I'm about to start my second pack. The only side effects I've had are slight nausea the first week I started taking them. My breasts are swollen, I still break out, and have had a lot of spotting initially, but now I don't. I don't have any mood swings. I feel sleepy even though I sleep plenty. That's about it."

For Birth Control "I've tried the following BC pills: Ortho- used to give me backaches and significant weight gain. Loesterin FE- gave me intense headaches and spotting. Alesse-wonderful! I just switched to the generic brand of Alesse, Aviane, and I hope it has the same effect as Alesse!"

For Birth Control "I started taking Aviane because of horrible PMS while on Mircette and did the three-month continuous route. It kind of helped alleviate PMS, but for some reason, my body wouldn't listen to the pill and continued to have a monthly period well into the second three-month span along with spotting. The breaking point was when I had a total PMS episode complete with a migraine and heavy period about a month and a half into the second three months. I am switching to Yaz and hoping things improve!"

For Birth Control "I was prescribed Aviane and tried it for the first time for about a year. My mood changes crept up on me, and before I knew it, I wasn't me and had lost every desire to live! I felt depressed and always full of loathing. So full of just plain loathing for everything, for absolutely no reason. I was plain and simply put, not in the mood for life anymore! After changing to an IUD, I waited over 6 months to see if my mood and depression changed. And it did! I am me again and not depressed! Also, this pill caused me to, for the 1st time in my life, to have a sun mustache! Google it. Darkening of skin can be an actual side effect with this one! My period got incredibly light and short, more like light spotting at most! I didn't mind that so much, but it did have me worried about being pregnant at times. I had clear skin while on it but got the absolute worst post-pill acne I've ever gotten after stopping any pill! I didn't get pregnant, so that's a plus! Overall not happy, wouldn't recommend."

For Birth Control "At the beginning, it was really bad. Awful mood swings, very agitated at absolutely everything, bleeding for 21 days straight. After 4-5 months, I did not see those mood swings anymore and had a regular cycle. Now, on it for 2 years, I noticed my cramps have been less painful. I went from fainting, vomiting, and being unable to walk to being able to take one Advil and be in slight discomfort. Although it left me with depression, I'd rather be constantly sad than experience those awful cramps. Pros: slightly better skin, regulated periods, bearable cramps, extra protection. Cons (after a year): depression, weight gain, spotting if a day was missed, more severe mood changes during periods, a bit more tired throughout the day but can still sleep fine."

For Birth Control "The first week of taking the pill was terrible, my period lasted for like 9 days, my breasts were extremely tender, and I was breaking out. The first 2 months were bad because I was spotting, my breasts were continuously tender, and I would break out. The pill was basically giving me the same side effects that I get when I’m about to get my period, but constantly. Also, I remember on the 2nd week of being on the pill, right after sex, I would get the worst cramps that would last for 2 minutes. I never had this happen previously, but the next week, those stopped. After 3 months, things were normal, but a little while after that, I’ve started to get migraines from time to time. Now I’ve been taking it for 5 months. No more spotting or strange cramps after sex, but only migraines from time to time and tender breasts once in a blue moon. Also, a little breakouts."

For Endometriosis "I took this birth control for 7 months, hoping to manage my unbearably painful periods. The first couple of months seemed okay. Periods were still painful but a bit more tolerable. By the 4th or 5th month, periods became irregular. I started spotting throughout my cycle, despite taking the pill religiously at the same time each day. Wish it would have worked better for me!"

For Birth Control "Aviane was an okay pill. I did not experience headaches, nausea, or any other terrible BC side effect. I did have a lot of spotting on this pill, but that could be because I didn't take the pill at the exact same time every day (a range of a couple minutes, but that didn't seem to be exact enough). I slept really well on this pill. I only have two complaints: my sex drive was eradicated, and it triggered constant acne flare-ups. This is a levonorgestrel pill - it is highly androgenic, meaning it triggers excess oil production. It will make you break out unless you are doing something to combat the oil production (like taking androgen blockers)."

"I was on Aviane for about a month. I have never had acne in my life and started getting bad acne. Not only that, but I had a lot of spotting. It's been a couple of weeks since I've been off of it, and now I'm on the NuvaRing (which I like), and the acne still has yet to subside. I started going to a new doctor, and she said that the acne could definitely be because of the Aviane, and I agree."

For Birth Control "I have been on this pill for over 10 years. Occasionally, I get breakthrough bleeding/spotting, but it's not bad-very little and light. It decreases the oiliness of my skin, which is a plus. When I take the inactive row of pills, my periods aren't as heavy and cramps are lighter. I've been taking this straight through to skip my periods for five months, at the advice of my doctor. I get a half day of faint cramping and a little spotting."

For Birth Control "I have been using Aviane for almost a year now and I would have to say that the only side effects I noticed were my skin has been a little bit more oily and I get 3 to 4 days of spotting before my regular period. Because of this, the doctor is making me switch to Ortho Tri-Cyclen Lo. Hopefully, I don't run into any problems, but I don't even want to switch. I love Aviane."

For Birth Control "I started taking this birth control 6 months ago. I had some initial spotting, which later turned into bleeding throughout my 3rd and 4th weeks. Every month. Every month I was bleeding for 2 weeks. I thought it would go away after the 3rd month because that's what the general consensus was on the internet, but it didn't, so I'm switching to a high-dose pill. However, other than the annoyance of having to constantly buy tampons, I had no other side effects. No acne, no moodiness, no weight gain (I actually ended up going from 117 to 111 while on the pill for those of you who might be worried about weight gain as much as I was), no breast tenderness, or any substantial change in sex drive. I wish I didn't have to switch."

For Birth Control "Every 2 years or so I switch birth control pills to get my body used to something new. Other than Yaz making me borderline psychotic, Aviane is next at the bottom of the list. I've been on it for about 6 months now, and I had to go back to what I was on before. If I didn't take it at the exact same time every day, I would spot, and after month 3, I bled for 2 weeks straight. My acne is the worst it's ever been, and I know Aviane caused the cystic acne on my chin every month."

For Birth Control "I was on Yaz for 2 years, and that was the worst. I changed to Aviane 3 months ago, and I love it. The first month, I was spotting a bit, but after that, my period has been good. It comes on time and is very short and light, and it only costs me $5 from the pharmacy. I do get pretty emotional during my period, but nothing life-altering. It's really great."
