"In the late 70s and early 80s, I used to work different shifts, 8-4, or 4-12 or 12-8. Rather than taking a Seconal, which made me groggy upon awaking, I was prescribed Placidyl 750 mg. Well, the drug took effect in about 15 to 20 minutes. When I woke up after 6 to 7 hours of sleep, I was fully rested and NOT groggy. My head was clear, and I was alert with NO 'hangover effect.' I used this drug for about 4 years, taking it once a week as my shift changed with 8 hours in between. I moved to another state, had a new doctor, and when I asked for a prescription for Placidyl, he was horrified and looked at me like I had 3 heads. 'It's a terrible, addictive drug and abused drug,' he said. I was told the drug was discontinued in 1980. I found it very effective with no side effects."

For Insomnia "This was excellent medication. I'm not sure if they still make it, the code number for it said discontinued. That would be a tragedy, it's a one-of-a-kind medication."

"This was one of the good ones! These and Quaaludes did more than just 'get you high', you physically felt like everything was just O.K.! and it STAYED that way! I grew up during the heyday of both of these drugs and others. I just did not see the rate of overdosing we do today. We didn't have 'pressed pills', we had the real deal. So we knew what we were getting and how much. Nowadays, you can't even get pain medications for legitimate diagnosis of back pain, and that is insane!! Society has now FORCED people with REAL pain to go and obtain help illegally. There is no excuse. We have the right to determine the course of our care and to decide how to treat our bodies without reproach."
