For Migraine Prevention "I’ve been on Aimovig for a week tomorrow, and I’ve experienced itching, sore stomach, and bloating so bad. My liver has been hurting, and I just want it out of my system. My vertigo has been acting up the last two days, so I’m dizzy and nauseous. How do you get it out of your system? How long does it take to get Aimovig out of my system after one dose of 140 mg? - Answer: Estimate is 140 days (For roughly 97% to be removed from the body, the half-life is 28 days, and it takes about 5 half-lives to remove most of it, so 5 X 28 = 140 days)"

For Migraine Prevention "I just had my injection on Friday, and Saturday evening I was throwing up really bad and having horrible muscle spasms in my stomach. I ended up having to go to the ER because I could not stop throwing up and having muscle spasms. Horrible pain like I have never experienced in my life. I thought it was the end of me. I know this is the cause because it is one of the side effects. I am scared to take it again. I don't know what to do. I can't handle that pain again. The ER had to give me a narcotic to help with pain and Toradol. Also, something for nausea. The last thing to try is Botox, and I am scared to do that too. I think my doctor might suggest another injection, so we will see what he suggests when I go back."

For Migraine Prevention "I had my first injection (70 mg) on 07/30. I have been a migraine sufferer since I was 6 years old. I have malignant hypertension and experience chronic daily headaches and migraines about 3 times a week. An hour after I gave myself the Aimovig injection, I took my blood pressure. It was 133/72. I have NEVER had a blood pressure this low in the past 27 years. I've only had one migraine since then. The only difference is that I was nauseated versus actually throwing up. The migraine only lasted a day. I am pleased with the results so far. I did experience constipation. My chronic daily headaches have become very mild and allow me to function as if I didn't have a headache. Even if the injection didn't work for my migraines, I would still take it just for the reduction of my blood pressure. I am extremely excited about this medication."

For Migraine Prevention "One week into my 70 mg Aimovig shot. The shot was not painful at all. I'm sleepy all the time, though, and cannot supplement my Aimovig with anything. Not even vitamins. It makes me nauseated. I do sleep a good 8 hours now. I've had insomnia most of my life and had taken Benadryl for 30 years to sleep. But when I stopped Benadryl, it gave me migraines. Been tapering down from 100 mg of Benadryl to 12 mg for 2 years now. Just want the migraines to go away. I had approximately 20 migraines per month previous to Aimovig. Now, in the last week, just mild intermittent headaches for a few minutes. But it is the nausea and fatigue that are the worst. Not sure if I will be taking another shot next month."

For Migraine Prevention "Took 70 mg dose for 1.5 years. It effectively reduced my chronic migraine symptoms with no noticeable side effects. Then it seemed to stop working, so I went up to 140 mg dose and started Botox injections too. Within a month, my GI tract went haywire and I experienced pain, bloating, cramping, early satiety, anorexia, nausea, and reduced frequency of BMs that were hard and painful. Given reports of severe constipation, I suspected the Aimovig and stopped taking it. That was the middle of last year and I'm STILL dealing with GI pain and dysfunction. The low FODMAP diet is the only thing that has helped. Testing ordered by the GI doc was positive for SIBO (high methane) last month and I did a course of antibiotics. It helped some, but whenever I try eating not low FODMAP, I pay dearly. I didn’t have any of these gut issues before taking the 140 mg dose. My theory is blockage of CGRP receptors allowed colon microbes to migrate into my small intestine and wreak havoc. I regret taking Aimovig."

For Migraine Prevention "Aimovig had a positive effect on my migraine, but sadly the side effects were terrible. - Nausea and vomiting (I lost a lot of weight), muscle pain, fatigue, brain fog, and mental difficulties. I was out of work for several months. It took about four months until I felt like myself again. The experience was frightening, and I am skeptical of trying one of the other CGRP inhibitors."

For Migraine Prevention "I have been on Aimovig for 4 months. The first 2 months, I felt fine, still some headaches, but month 3 and 4, I have been nauseous. I also have acid reflux, and I am wondering if it is messing with it. When I took the 4th shot that night, I felt horrible, and the next day just nauseous and tired. I don't know for sure if it's the shot, but I have a feeling it is. So I am skipping the next shot to see, so I hope it gets out of my system soon. But I guess it's been helping my head, but I have also been on candesartan, and when I tried to stop that, my head hurt, so I think the shot helped some, but this nauseous feeling is worse than a headache."

For Migraine Prevention "I was doing well with Aimovig the first 2 months, but since my 3rd shot, my migraines have come on with a vengeance. The first 3 to 5 days after taking the shot, I feel like I've been hit by a train. I get extreme nausea, and the fatigue makes it almost impossible to get out of bed. With each dose, it actually triggers a migraine, but it usually subsides after a few days. Aimovig also makes me have auras, but oddly enough, they aren't always followed by a headache. I'm going to stick this out another month, maybe the next round won't be so bad. I had an entire month migraine-free. I hope and pray that will be the case with my next dose. Good luck to anyone trying this, I hope you find the relief you're looking for. PS: sign up for the discount card!!!"

For Migraine Prevention "I took Aimovig in late 2021, early 2022, for about 4 months. I was excited that I had finally found a medicine that helped my migraines until I started having intense nausea. I told my doctor and stopped taking Aimovig in January 2022, but the stomach pain and discomfort continued. My doctor told me to wait 5 months until Aimovig was completely out of my system. It has been a year, and my stomach problems have continued to this day. I now have partial gastroparesis as a result of taking Aimovig and have to deal with constant changes with my bowel movement schedule."

For Migraine Prevention "Two days after the first dose, this drug has changed the quality and reduced the severity of my chronic migraine, but side effects have been worse than the migraines. I have a weird new chemical-feeling anxiety that deep breathing won’t touch, new tightness in my chest and head, and nausea when I run. Pooping has started feeling like forcing bricks through a hole, and I now see blood on the toilet paper afterward. I feel poisoned. I wish that I could get this drug out of my system. I will never take it again."

For Migraine Prevention "I’ve been taking 140 mg for 3 months now. Started on 6-21. I usually get 14 to 23 migraine days a month. I feel as soon as I take the injections, I have several migraines (10) days in a row. Then after that, I’ll get about 11 headache-free days. I guess it’s better than 14 to 23. It is not the miracle drug I expected it to be. If I’m not having a migraine and it’s time for the injections, I'm like, oh boy, get ready for several days of migraine and nausea. Going to the doc in 2 weeks to see if I should continue."

For Migraine Prevention "I took my first single dose of Aimovig late this morning. About 45 minutes later, I became very nauseated, like nausea accompanying a bad migraine. I cannot find anything about this being a side effect. It's Saturday, so everyone's closed. Used Phenergan and club soda. I'm hoping this doesn't last the full month!"

For Migraine Prevention "Prior to getting Aimovig, I took about 60 sumatriptans a month. I have had 5 shots so far and have experienced relief from my headaches for the first time ever, it took 4 months for the Aimovig to start working, but this fifth month has been so much better - I went down from literally 30 headaches a month to about 10-15. At first, I thought I had no side effects, but progressively I have been realizing that my nausea and diarrhea that I have been experiencing for the past 4 months might have been related to Aimovig. I mean, so far these haven't been serious enough to put me off the medication, just annoying, and I hope I can work them out, and certainly, I hope these side effects won't get any worse in the future. I have also experienced some backaches (maybe spasms) twice right after the shot in the shoulder, which could be related to the Aimovig as well. Overall, though, I have found this medication to be satisfactory so far, but I need to be more cautious about the side effects."

For Migraine Prevention "I had 3 Aimovig shots for chronic migraine - 70, 70, 140. It works. The headaches faded to a daily 1 or 2. But side effects? Bad enough that I've quit Aimovig. Constipation I can control. But the fatigue. I'm a fitness freak, and the wobbly-legged feeling of exhaustion was shocking. Plus a fuzzy lethargy that makes it hard to get up and get started. I still want to take a nap all the time. Dizziness when I change position. I sit and wait for the room to stop rotating. Lately, this comes with nausea - 6 weeks after my last injection. Muscle spasms - legs and hands. Try to sleep with that going on all night. So, I'm out. My doc suggests Ajovy, but now I'm leery of the CGRP inhibitors. These things need extended research, in my opinion. We who experience serious side effects may be risking lasting compromise. For me, it worked. But I suspect it's like belting yourself on the head with a hammer to nail a mosquito. You'll stop the itch, but you may cause a lot of collateral damage."

For Migraine Prevention "I first tried this a year ago on a 2-month trial from the distributor. I didn't have much change in the frequency of migraines then, but eventually, the severity of them improved. I was still having 20-25 headache days a month, but only about 5-8 days would be more than a 5/10 on the pain scale. A year later and my neurologist has given me a motherlode of samples. I started my second round about 3 weeks ago. This time the severity of my migraines got much worse almost immediately. I've been at a 7-9/10 constantly since my injection. Side effects during the 1st trial were not good; vertigo and nausea so bad it was almost as debilitating as a severe migraine. That seems to be the case this time as well. I'm gonna try to stick it out for at least 3 months. I expect some improvement in side effects between now and then. But I don't think this will be the amazing cure it's been for some."

For Migraine Prevention "This is the only drug that has ever helped my migraines in any capacity. In 2 months, I went from 12-16 per month to 2-3. The severity has also drastically decreased. I used to have what I called 'bad ones' once or twice a month... they resulted in me being in the fetal position, in pitch-black darkness, and nausea from another planet. It's been 2 years at this point, and I've only had 1 'bad one.' It only lasted for a few hours, and that is much quicker than they used to be. It's definitely worth a go with this if you can't find an answer."

For Migraine Prevention "Started Aimovig 140 six months ago. 1st injection, I got swelling on the left side of my face and neck, and shortness of breath. 2nd jab was better, no swelling, but really bad muscle cramps and twitches all over my body. Head never really gave me a break, ranging from mild to severe, never going away. Still taking Aimovig today, still suffering heart palpitations, really bad muscle cramps, fatigue, and nausea. Going to speak to neuro on next appointment. Good luck, everyone."

For Migraine Prevention "Insurance required that I start with Ajovy for 3 months, which was entirely ineffective. I then switched to Aimovig and had some relief, but only for 14 days or so. Increasing the dosage to 140 mg stretched out the effect for about 21 days, then poof, gone. Getting the pain back was brutal, almost worse than having my migraines at that level near daily. Sounds odd, but pain reduction that wears off is really hard. I’ve been on it for over 2 years and changed other medications in that time. I went from daily headaches at a 5-6 pain level and 3-4 migraines/week to 4 or 5 headache-free days and 10 migraines/month (30d). I’ve tried Botox, nerve blocks, acupuncture, physical therapy, medial branch blocks to minimal or no relief. Aimovig plus baclofen, propranolol, and progesterone (hormone replacement) have made a huge difference for me in reducing the pain level, duration, and severity of symptoms (nausea, light and sound sensitivity) with a modest change in frequency. Best I can hope for."
