For Birth Control "I’ve used this medication for about a year and a half, and lately, over the course of the last 6 months, I noticed I am insanely depressed. I have never been depressed and have no reason to be depressed. The depression, irritability, cramps, headaches, and aches come rushing in a day or two before my period is coming, then different symptoms subside. Usually, the cramps and headache go away, but I’m stuck with everything else the duration of my period, which is about 5-7 days. I thought this was just a part of life, but after a while, I don’t want to believe this has to be my life just because of a period every month for the next 10+ years. So I’m going to try something different. Everybody is different, but this was my experience. I didn’t have hair loss or weight gain/loss, nothing else was affected, just the things I mentioned above. I’d say try it, but if you start feeling depressed and moody, blame it on the Yaz."

For Birth Control "Caused major depression. Was on many strong medications for years before reading how Yaz could be the problem. Went off Yaz and depression disappeared. No more strong medication. No sex drive while on the pill. Very dry during sex. Also had a terrible scarring breakout after coming off of it. Only gave it two stars because I did not get pregnant, so it 'did its job.'"

For Birth Control "I have been on Yaz for almost 5 months. Every month, my doctor told me to try to wait one more month that my body would adjust. It has caused me to have extreme anxiety, gain weight, and severe depression. My poor boyfriend has had to deal with me for the past couple of months and I'm nothing but depressed. But it has been great for pregnancy reasons. I'm only with one person, so it's my only birth control, and so far, so good there."

For Birth Control "This is the worst drug I have ever taken. Two weeks after taking it, my breasts swelled up, they were so painful I can hardly work... I had problems bleeding last night, and I feel most of my body itching... my waist hurts... my energy levels are so low it feels like I am so sick... I feel cold and depressed... I never felt so bad."

For Acne "I am currently on my second pack of Yaz, only a few days left. I have had a few horrible side effects. Firstly, since starting Yaz, I have had 3 extreme yeast infections due to the pill. To add, my vagina is not lubricated anymore, it's very dry and I struggle to have sex, it is painful. The pill has weakened my immune system, giving me tonsillitis and a cold sore (which I haven't had in 4 years now). I am bleeding in between when the fake period is supposed to occur. I have a constant sore lump in my left boob. It has made me depressed and irritated. As for my skin - it has stayed the same. I am thinking of stopping the pill after this second pack because clearly my body does not like it. It has made sex unenjoyable, and I can barely do it due to yeast infections and no lubrication! Just want my normal body back - I don't think it is worth going through all this for clear skin. I am worried that my vagina will not go back to its normal state if I continue on this pill."

For Birth Control "I had a great experience with Yaz. I have been on it for about two and a half years now. I originally got on it for cystic hormonal acne, and I can tell you that my face has never been clearer! It took a couple of months for me to get accustomed to Yaz, but after that, my acne went away and my mood was so much better. I used to suffer from bad PMS that would make me very anxious and depressed. My periods used to be very heavy and painful and ten days long, and Yaz has made them lighter, shorter, and minimum pain/discomfort. My breasts also grew about one to two cup sizes. I feel my hair is growing faster and thicker. It also reduced some of my body hair! Overall, I love Yaz. Don’t let the bad reviews scare you, Yaz is different for everyone, and it has worked wonders for me."

For Birth Control "I took the last non-placebo pill out of my pack yesterday. Will not refill prescription. I had never felt so sad, angry, and depressed in my life until I started taking this pill. The first week on this pill was bad. But I figured maybe I just need to wait it out until my hormones get balanced. But almost 4 weeks later, the anxiety and depression symptoms just got worse. I feel like an entirely different person. Always irritated, unsociable, and no energy to do anything anymore. If you are prone to depression, you might want to avoid this pill."

For Birth Control "Switched from my old BC to Yaz and immediately felt a difference. The first few days I was so emotional, very significantly so. By the end of the first week, I was full-on depressed, and it continued on to the second week. Everything triggered me. :( But I like the sticker on the top with the days."

For Birth Control "I'm 24 years old, healthy, and known for my fitness regime. I've been taking Yaz for three weeks now, and it is horrible. I have a history of mental health issues, and this medicine made me severely depressed and suicidal. I lost all interest in my activities, and it is hard for me to talk to people anymore. I also gained a little weight, got hives, and regularly have stomach pains now. I'm not sure if I should continue with this medicine. I'm going to talk to my doctor. But I know medicine doesn't necessarily work the same for everyone, so I wanted to share my experience. Talk to your doctor about the risks before taking Yaz."

For Birth Control "I prescribed Yaz at 17 years old and was on it for 5 years and thought it was an amazing pill. I had terrible acne before, which the pill completely cleared. But after about a year, I started getting really weird side effects that only now (off it) do I realize were due to Yaz. I was extremely cold, to the point that I could never warm up, and so exhausted I was diagnosed with chronic fatigue and could not physically stay awake throughout the day. I never had depression before, but during this time I experienced my first bouts of depression so severe it was debilitating. I also became so hungry at all times I was constantly planning my next meal, and food consumed me. Now that I've been off the pill for 4 months, all side effects except the depression have completely lifted all at once. DO NOT RISK IT."

For Birth Control "I was on Yaz for 2 months and started to become anxious, paranoid, and depressed. I asked my doc to get off it, and she told me to give it more time. I got off it, nevertheless, because I did not need it. My life improved dramatically over the next 6 months. I started dating again, so I decided to give the pill another shot. I started to be anxious and insecure immediately. I started believing and accusing the person I was seeing of not being into me and got upset at him over the littlest things. A week before my period, I went into full anxious and depression mode. It felt like the world was ending. I also experienced severe cramps, migraines, and bled for 2 weeks. I am now off this drug for 2 days and noticed an immediate difference."

For Birth Control "I started taking it to regulate my period a year ago, and it has been a rollercoaster of a year. About 5 months after taking it, my mood swings started to get really bad, I always had headaches, my cramps were bad, and I started to have symptoms of anxiety and depression. I used to be so full of energy and always happy, now my mood swings are 24/7 and I have 0 energy whatsoever. Definitely going to switch birth control pills. I don't recommend Yaz."

For Birth Control "I’ve been on Yaz for about 8 months, it works perfectly, but about one day a month, it gives me manic depression, and I’m emotional for no reason. I figured I could take one bad day a month, but it has gotten severely worse and gives me suicidal thoughts. I’ve never experienced any form of depression before. I’m actually happy in my life, but this makes me feel so low."

For Birth Control "I started taking Yaz over a year ago for birth control and partially for mild acne. I do think it helped my acne, and it was an extremely reliable birth control, but I fell into a serious state of depression that led to a hospitalization. I think it's great for skin and birth control, but definitely ask your doctor about depression!"

For Birth Control "I am 46. My gynecologist said not to believe the reviews after prescribing Yaz to me. So, I didn't read the reviews. I stopped taking it yesterday. Here is why: severe bleeding, even now...20 days later, depression, suicidal thoughts, and depletion of reserves of my vitamin B12. This drug should not be on the market. I have put forth a complaint to the company and suggest everyone does the same. I am still suffering the consequences of taking it. And I hope my suffering ends soon, and I feel better. If you are suffering like me...feel better...stop taking it."

For Birth Control "Yaz did what birth control is supposed to do in the sense that it regulated my periods and lessened my severe cramps while preventing pregnancy, but the downsides were enough to get me to go off of it. My breasts grew very quickly, almost 2 cup sizes, and were very painful. Previously, they were so small they didn’t even fit in a 32A. After Yaz, I was looking at a B or even a C cup, and it was very uncomfortable because I have a very, very petite frame. Unfortunately, that was not the worst of it. My libido decreased, my anxiety and depression worsened to the point of missing college and work for days or even weeks at a time, and I was extremely depressed and irritable."

For Birth Control "My doctor put me on Yaz 11 years ago. Within several months of being on this pill, I began to experience bouts of depression during my menstrual cycle. After 6 months, they were so severe that I began to have serious panic attacks and could not leave my house. My world crashed while I was on this pill. NEVER touch this pill, it should not be on the market!!!"

For Birth Control "I would have to say that Yaz has been by far the best birth control pill I've tried. No weight gain, no depression, I have tons of energy, I still have my sex drive, and no crazy out-of-control mood swings. It's worth a try. But no birth control pill is going to work the same for everyone. I recommend NEVER doing the generic brands, they are slightly different, which if you're sensitive to birth control pills like me, you will notice a difference. Yaz changed my life and made my PMDD a lot better."

For Birth Control "I’ve been taking Yaz for a few months now, and each month my anxiety, depression, and dependence on my boyfriend has gotten worse. I thought I was just being a psycho until I read these reviews. Like I’d get so jealous and tell him off, and I couldn’t figure out why because I’m usually not this person. I’m very easygoing, and he’s trustworthy. Don’t do it. Find another birth control. I’m done taking this as of today."

For Birth Control "This product is horrible. I’m a very optimistic, happy, outgoing person, but I’ve been taking Yaz for a little over a month, and I’ve been a wreck. I’m highly irritable, I have the most intense mood swings, and I cry all the time, and lately, it’s been making my entire body ache. The past month has been mentally draining and exhausting. I really do not recommend it, especially if you’re a teenager such as me. This pill makes me feel depressed and sad as well, and the likelihood of blood clots is so high it’s terrifying. Don’t use this pill."

For Birth Control "I took this medicine for 3 years. The first 2 years were great. Less bleeding and basically no cramps. By the 3rd year, though, I developed severe anxiety, depression, and mild kidney and liver problems, as well as a racing, pounding pulse and difficulty breathing. Several other of my friends have had some of the same problems. I would recommend it if you have severe cramps like I did. It was great. Just be sure to monitor yourself."

For Birth Control "I've been on Yaz a year now and love it. I'll be honest, my first 2 months were difficult. Spotting, painful breasts, depression, exhaustion. But now I'm so glad I allowed time for my body to adjust. No mood swings or depression, my sex drive has increased, my skin looks great, and my periods are highly predictable. I will always get it on a Tuesday night and it lasts only 2-3 days with light spotting and very little cramping. I've also dropped a good 15 lbs! My doctor said it's rare, but possible, to bleed every month and still be pregnant while on the pill. So I do take a pregnancy test every few months to be on the safe side since I rely on the pill as my only form of contraception and my periods are so light. For me, that's the only drawback."
