For Birth Control "I was on Yasmin to get rid of my shocking period cramps, and it took 1.5 months before the effects fully kicked in. It made me extremely depressed, with serious thoughts of self-harm. I had massive breakdowns for days on end and have never felt so low/depressed in my life. I completely changed as a person when I was on this, and I could not stress enough to not go on this pill."

For Birth Control "I used these Yasmin pills for about 2 months now, but IDK what happened to me. I feel that I am easily getting angry, I feel so sad and cry always without any reason, I feel that anxiety attacks me. I read all the comments, I think I get this from Yasmin :("

For Birth Control "Been on this pill for about 8 months (changed from Microgynon), and I've had a mixed experience. Periods are much lighter and less painful than ever before, which is much better! However, have found if I take pill packets back to back, I always get breakthrough bleeding, which I haven't had with previous pills. Boobs have become more sensitive and got bigger, which I don't mind! But it's also meant I've put on almost a stone in 4 months without my lifestyle changing (I eat healthily, exercise regularly, have always had a good metabolism). Which has been really awful for my self-esteem. This pill has given me high anxiety, made me feel depressed all the time. Really wouldn't recommend this pill."

For Birth Control "Terrible experience. Was on it for 10 days before coming off. Had extreme anxiety and depression, crippling panic about my relationships. Mood was stable before. Feel a huge wave of relief now that I’m coming off of it."

For Acne "I've had moderate acne since I was 12. I'm now 18 and have been taking Yasmin for the past 3 1/2 months to help deal with it. I have noticed a difference, the pimples haven't stopped completely, they just occur less frequently and in smaller quantities, although this may have something to do with my not-so-great diet. I did have the first few weeks of taking the pill, when my skin was at its worst, but this went away after time. Along with the acne, my periods have become more regular. I have also noticed my mood is more regulated, I'm not so all over the place, and my family and friends find me more sociable. However, when on my period, I am sent into a few days of laziness, sadness, and feeling quite lethargic."

For Birth Control "After reading all these reviews, I can’t believe I didn’t realize and associate my incredible irritability, moodiness, anxiety, and depression with this birth control pill. Also, very mindful just recently of the link between Yas and my blood clots! Never taking this killer again."

For Birth Control "I'm 30 and on Yasmin for acne. Since being on it, I'm feeling depressed, have a low sex drive, mood swings, etc. Still have the same acne after 6 months. Quitting tomorrow, can't take the depression any longer. I was experiencing anxiety before Yasmin, but we found out the root of my issue was vitamin imbalances. Yasmin has taken me in the complete opposite direction. I'm done with it. I had been off birth control for 3 years and will never go back again."

For Birth Control "I don't normally leave reviews, but this page has helped me so much today I feel to share my experiences in the hope that it will help others, too. I started taking Yasmin 4 months ago, and everything was fine for the first 2 packs. Periods were very short and light, skin was clear, no problems at all. I'm a first-time mum, so my stress levels are always high, so when I started feeling bouts of anxiety I thought nothing of it. 2 months on, and I feel like I'm a different person, I cry every day, bouts of uncontrollable rage, lethargy, depression - the works! Stupidly, I didn't put 2 and 2 together until the weight gain began, almost 1 kg per month! Suffice to say this pill isn't for everybody!"

For Birth Control "Going on Yasmin was absolutely horrible. I only lasted a week because it made me feel horribly depressed. I felt like crying all the time and just wanted to lie down and stare at the wall. It also made me nauseous all the time. Within a couple of days, I had multiple large zits, and I usually have minimal acne. It also killed my libido. After I stopped the pill, I had two separate periods within a week of each other, and it messed with my hormones so much that I cried every day for a month straight. I will never take this Yasmin ever again."

For Birth Control "I started taking Yasmin/generic brand in January 2017. I was put on anti-depressants at the same time. The first one was citalopram. I blamed it for my feeling out of it and depressed. After reading some of these comments, I realize it possibly was the Yasmin. I'm not sure about anyone else, but I have uncontrollable, teary depression during the 2nd week of the pills. I am at a point where I will probably change because this is not good for my mental health. As awful as this medication is for my mental health, it has been helpful in lowering my flow and cramps. That's the only bright side of this medication for me."

For Birth Control "Yasmin was my first birth control and last. I regret the day I went to the doctor to get the pill. For the 2 months that I had taken the pill, I had instantly turned crazy, I was overly emotional, crying every day without a cause and felt so lonely and depressed. It was the worst experience. I then checked with a couple of friends to see their thoughts, and they told me to immediately stop, as Yasmin has a common side effect of depression and going ‘crazy.’ When I stopped a week later, I felt so much better and normal again. Everyone reacts differently, but after consulting with the doctor and a few friends, it could be a common side effect to feel really down and eager to cry or start an argument. Now I don’t take any pills, as my health was really bad, so I'm trying to get back on track again!"

For Birth Control "This pill is the worst! I gained a lot of weight rapidly on this pill. I feel depressed most days, or I'll have the odd day where I feel amazing out of nowhere before plummeting back down again. My skin has broken out badly since I started taking it as well! I had none of these problems before starting this pill. My body feels disgusting because of this pill - it's not worth taking! Avoid!"

For Birth Control "It's the first time writing in a forum, but I can't be in silence now! I was on these tablets for six months. I didn't realize that the panic attacks, dizziness, anxiety, and tears for little things were because of the BC pills! My skin was brilliant, really! But it wasn't worth it for decreased libido, emotional instability, and depression!"

For Birth Control "I’m 18, and I was on this pill for about a year and a bit, and in the last week, I was getting extreme anxiety and panic attacks to the point I was sick, even depressed, outrageous thoughts. I didn’t know what was happening till my sister said she had problems with this exact pill after about a year, and it just made complete sense. It was almost as if my hormones had gone haywire and for no apparent reason. I suffered like this for about a week, then I decided I had to go off the pill, so I stopped taking it, but the mood issues did carry on for a bit longer, which I’m guessing was my hormones leveling out. It’s been about a week since I stopped, and I’m feeling 1000 times better already. Would never suggest this pill to anyone, it’s not worth the tears!"

For Acne "I was prescribed Dianete for years, and my face was beautiful! Bar the odd spot if I had a few too many drinks on a Sat night, however, due to docs weaning women off Dianete because of health issues such as blood clots and strokes, they switched me to Yasmin! Worst pill I have ever had! My face looks like a giant pizza! It's vile, I get up every day with another spot, angry red ones that lay under the skin so I can't even attempt to get rid of them. I cry all the time, depression is creeping in. I'm crying at TV adverts, it's that bad! I will be returning back to the docs to get a new pill."

For Birth Control "Originally went on Yasmin as my skin was terrible, and I wanted to have more control over my periods. They were heavy, lasted 7 days, and I got severe stomach cramps. It made my skin so clear and also made my boobs go up two cup sizes, which worked wonders for my confidence. I suffer from anxiety and take tablets for this also, but didn’t find the pill to make this any better or worse. However, while I loved the pill when I was on it, I found it difficult during seven-day breaks, as my periods were still awful and long when coming off it. Therefore, I tried the mini pill instead, however, I found this awful and it made me feel depressed. Therefore, I’ve come back on Yasmin, and I’m hoping after a bit longer on it, my periods will be lighter."

For Acne "Personally, wouldn’t use this pill for acne. I was not on it for a long time, but my skin didn’t improve at all, in fact, it probably got worse. I also found myself a lot more sad and cried a lot easier and more regularly than normal."

For Acne "I've been feeling extremely sad, dismal, and mournful in the past 13 weeks of my life. It took me more than three months to realize this evil pill is the reason I cry every day. I am a strong and bubbly person, so it was a big shock for me to see myself suffer this much. I was an idiot to completely forget that this pill could have serious side effects. Yasmin turned me into another person. I'm stopping it right now. It hasn't helped with my acne at all, even made it worse."

For Birth Control "I was on Yasmin for around 2 years, and I thought it was pretty good until I started getting recurring yeast infections. I came off it for 2 years and went with another brand. I've recently decided to go back on Yasmin again and have been having a heavy period for 3 weeks now (I've never had a period longer than 8 days). I also feel unhinged, anxious, depressed, and extremely paranoid. I've been having breakdowns where I'm screaming and crying. I feel trapped, and literally the slightest thing pushes me over the edge into another breakdown or an argument. I'm just hoping I feel better soon."

For Acne "I would not recommend Yasmin. After being on Sprintec for years and trying Nexplanon, I was put on Yasmin to help with my moderate acne. I started it in Nov 2020. Within maybe 2 months, I saw an improvement in my acne, which was great. Over time, my mental health went absolutely downhill. I found myself crying constantly over everything. I became depressed, VERY anxious, and did not want to spend time with anyone. I would lock myself away in my room in bed. I began doubting all my relationships and questioning everything around me (i.e., what was the point of life). It took me months to realize it may be Yasmin. I stopped taking Yasmin at the beginning of June 2021. About two weeks after stopping Yasmin, I was feeling a lot more like my old self. If anyone has had their mental health dramatically plummet while taking Yasmin, you are not crazy. Yasmin can absolutely wreak havoc on your emotional well-being. Please talk to your doctor about other options. I now have an IUD that I love."

For Birth Control "This pill ruined my life. Before taking this, I had very mild acne. Two weeks into the first pack, and my skin was so bad I wouldn’t leave my house. I’d never experienced anything like it before. My mood swings were crazy, I’d cry constantly for no reason! I became extremely depressed, and I had a very short temper. It killed my energy, made me fat. Oh, and my hair fell out, and I got terrible melasma on my upper lip and nose (which still hasn’t gone away...). My doctor told me to stick it out for three months. I hoped for the best, but on month five, I had to call it quits. I’ve been off of it for six months now, and my skin and mood have slightly improved, but I’m still trying to undo the terrible effects caused by this pill. My skin and hair haven’t been the same since."

For Birth Control "Took Yasmin for 18 months. Experienced severe breast pain for the last 3 months and came off as I was in agony, despite tests coming back normal. 2.5 months after stopping the pill, my hair began shedding like crazy. 9 months later, I’m still losing my hair and it’s so thin! Still no real answers for this, suspected telogen effluvium from the pill. It’s not growing back and my estrogen is rock bottom. Taking this pill is the single worst thing I have ever done for my health, and I beg anyone out there considering taking this because it “improves skin” and “doesn’t cause weight gain” to think twice. As I took it for these reasons and am now incredibly depressed."

For Birth Control "BEWARE! I’ve never had issues with birth control pills before or mental health issues. Within a month, I noticed a huge change. Depressed, horrible anxiety, crying every day, and felt completely worthless. It got to the point where I was terrified of what was happening, and so was my family. I finally linked it to the pill and stopped. I felt SO much better once it was out of my system and back to how I was before. I understand everyone responds to medications differently, but please be cautious in regards to this medication. Very scary."

For Birth Control "Please don't take Yasmin. It cleared my skin up, don't get me wrong. But the mental health effects aren't worth the risk. My already poor relationship with food developed into bulimia, and I also became really depressed on this pill. I questioned my relationship with my boyfriend, I had no energy to do anything. For days at a time, I couldn't bear to leave the house. Please don't do this to yourself."

For Birth Control "I have had to go on Yasmin twice in the past few years. In 2020, around January, I believe, is when I first started taking the pill. The reason I had to go on it was because I had my period for 17 days, and when I went to the doctor, this was the only option given to me. I was definitely a lot more irritable on the pill, and smaller things would make me cry. It worked for what I went on it for, though, I had a regular period cycle. Due to things shutting down during COVID in around May, I wasn't able to get my prescription refilled, which I was secretly thankful for because the side effects bothered me a lot. Again in 2021, in April, I had my period for a month straight. The reason I waited so long to go to a doctor this time was because I knew they were going to put me on birth control, which they did. Again, it worked for what it was prescribed for. I am still on it now, in November 2021. I feel like I've gotten used to being depressed and often thinking of suicide."
