For Birth Control "The first couple of months I took this, I had some mood swings and felt rather emotional, but that went away. After about 3 months, the acne I had been dealing with my entire life was 100% gone and has not returned for over a year. If there have been any weight changes, it's been lost weight. And it made my boobs bigger. Love it."

For Birth Control "I have been on Yaz for about three years now, and I love it. I have experienced a great decrease in my PMS. I was a monster before starting Yaz, and now I'm normal, with occasional periods having slight mood swings or cramps. My boobs have grown, and my acne has subsided. I get a few pimples every now and then, commonly when my period comes. I do get some bloating, but if I take something like Midol, then I have none. I'm able to know exactly when my period starts. I have only experienced one occurrence in 3 years of using Yaz, of spotting when not missing a pill. I haven't noticed any weight gain due to the pill. The only thing I am worried about is the scare of blood clotting lately."

For Birth Control "Started Yaz about 6 months ago for endometriosis pain control. Right away, I became emotional, anxious, and depressed with super dark thoughts. My doctor told me that it takes about 3 months to level out your hormones. Two weeks ago, I started having side effects that I didn't even realize were because of the birth control until I started reading other reviews. I'm 29 years old, work out 5 days a week, skinny, etc. I've become constipated, bloated, gaining weight, hungry all the time, extremely exhausted, mood swings, angry at everyone and everything, depressed, anxious, obsessive bad thoughts, hot flashes and sweating, breakthrough bleeding, etc. I have my period every 3 months on this, but my first period after the 3 months is the heaviest period I've ever had in my life. Not to be graphic, but it was flowing out of me like an endless waterfall. Soaked through super tampons in 15-20 minutes. I'm miserable and would rather risk my endometriosis pain coming back than dealing with this. Not taking another day of this pill."

For Birth Control "I recently switched from Yasmin to Gianvi by accident (I thought I was on Yaz instead of Yasmin and asked my doctor for the wrong pill). After reading reviews of Gianvi, I was really scared to start taking it. Many reviews mentioned increased acne, weight gain, mood swings, and heavy periods. I have been taking Gianvi for 4 months now and have had no negative side effects. I have no acne, I lost 5 pounds, my periods last only 3 days and are very light, and I have had no problems with my mood. I actually feel better than I did on Yasmin. Each pill works differently for each person, and there are people with positive experiences with Gianvi."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "1st time using birth control, and I’m taking it for PMDD & heavy/painful periods. About to finish my 1st pack. I was scared when I first started the pill - lack of emotions, no focus, irritability, a bit of stomach upset. Mood was the worst - I was swinging high and low & felt like I was on a roller coaster. I already struggle with depression/anxiety, so the birth control was worsening my mental health. HOWEVER - I think my body has adjusted to it now & I’m feeling a lot better. My mood is stable & I feel like my focus is back. Been spotting brown & it’s beginning to turn into blood now, but pretty light. I’ve had minor cramping, but it’s nothing compared to before. It’s crazy to have my period so light & not painful. Giving the 3-month trial period a chance to make sure this is a good med for me. All I can recommend for other people is to give it a chance. You can always get off it if you need to...don’t judge the pill based on negative symptoms you have in the first few weeks."

For Birth Control "This pill is MAGIC - I have tried multiple pills, Rivegdon, Microgynon, etc., all of which have given me horrible mood swings to the point of feeling depressed. Fast forward 2 years, birth control free, I was prescribed Yasmin to treat my acne. Within 3 months, my skin was the best it had ever been, it suppresses my appetite, so I've lost weight (gone from size 8 to 6), and it's literally saving my relationship. I used to be a horrible, moody, clingy cow and was pushing my boyfriend away. This pill has taken the 'edge' off that usual PMT rage and has just been an overall godsend. If you can get this from your GP, I would recommend it, however, everybody is different and may have a different experience than me."

For Birth Control "In the beginning, the pill was just fine, couldn’t be more happy with it - cleared up my acne, basically had no side effects apart from bloating within the first month. 6 months in, I started getting crazy mood swings, happiest person alive to the saddest girl on earth. Some of my friends and family brought it up, I was so down most of the time in the last 2 months that whenever I was energetic and happy, I’ve been asked whether I consumed drugs to increase my mood. Mind you, I was never depressed prior to taking this pill. I am 7 months in now, and I will either stop birth control completely or swap to a new pill. I rate it a 6/10. It did prevent me from getting pregnant. It did clear up my skin. It helped control my periods and completely got rid of the cramps. All things considered, I virtually had no side effects. However, it made me feel miserable on too many occasions."

For Birth Control "I have had horrible mood swings and have gained weight. I never know when or if I'm going to get my period, and my poor husband has had to deal with my mood swings. I was on Ortho-Tri-Cyclen-Lo for 2 years before this and never had a problem. I'm changing back."

For Birth Control "I took Yaz for 5 years (age 25 until now) and just stopped a month ago. PROS: didn't get pregnant, super clear skin, didn't gain weight, and didn't bloat (peed constantly due to the diuretic effect). CONS: my periods were heavier than before I went on the pill, I never had cramps before Yaz but got them during all 5 years on it, my hair started thinning to the point that my ponytail now is about 1/4 the size it was before I started Yaz, and my mood swings were unreal. I feel terrible for my husband, friends, and family for having to deal with me. I feel much better since being off the pill and am just hoping my hair grows back!"

For Acne "I’m 23 and been on Yaz for 4 months. I went on it for acne, and my face is clearing up, but I am also on other acne medication. Other birth controls have caused me weight gain, depression, and mood swings. I have lost weight on Yaz, and my mood seems stable, which is good. My boobs have grown a ton, even with the weight loss, they’ve grown at least a cup size. (Disclaimer: I dieted and exercised to lose the weight, the medicine didn’t make me lose it.) The only negative side effect is that once I started my period, I have been bleeding/spotting for almost two months now. Hopefully, that will regulate with time. So far, it’s the best BC I’ve ever taken."

For Acne "I have never been on any pill. My acne was getting really severe, so my doctor suggested Tri-Cyclen Lo. The first two months on Tri-Cyclen Lo made me get cystic breakouts, and I was miserable. I finally switched my birth control to Gianvi, this has been the best alternative to cleaning my skin. I haven't had any negative side effects, and my skin is finally clear! The only downside is the increase in appetite. I haven't gained any weight, I live a healthy lifestyle-eat clean and work out regularly. But I'm constantly hungry! Besides that, my skin looks its best that it has in years! Now I only need to get rid of my blemishes. I would highly recommend Gianvi, your period is light, and you don't experience nausea or mood swings."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "I thought it would be useful to update you about my life on Yaz (see September 25). I decided to quit Yaz after my mood being greatly affected. I've always been an anxious person, but I believe this medication made me paranoid and extremely emotional. I would literally cry watching my toaster do its thing. My libido dropped off completely as well. This, for me, was a shame, since once the 3-month mark had arrived, I felt like everything had fallen into place: no acne, no mood swings, stability, weight was going down, etc. However, after month 5, everything shifted, and my body just seemed to not like it anymore. I was SO paranoid. I was even sure someone had installed cameras in my apartment, lol. Anyway, it’s a shame I couldn't continue in it because it did help a lot with the acne and the hair, but those really are minor when you compare it to not being able to leave your place."

For Birth Control "In my third month of taking Gianvi, I have had major mood swings, depression, anxiety, and changes in appetite varying from nausea to overeating. I have not felt like this before with any other birth control. A little with Ortho-Tri-Cyclen, but I don't think it is as bad as this. I feel like I'm at constant war with myself to keep my emotions and my feelings in line. I'm not usually an emotional person, so all these feelings are very overwhelming and frustrating. I have an appointment in a week to go to Planned Parenthood and ask for a different kind of birth control. I've decided to stop taking it today. It does work, however, I have not gotten pregnant."

For Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder "So far, I really like Yasmin. I had a mild problem with acne and serious mood swings. I was also having a significant amount of dark, coarse facial hair due to low amounts of estrogen. I've seen improvements in all three areas. I started taking Yasmin on the second day of my period, and by the third day, my period was gone. The only downer is that it makes me really tired. I'm always a little cranky because I'm sleepy. It seems as though Yasmin is good for a lot of other problems young women have, and it's just a plus that it prevents pregnancy."

For Birth Control "This was my first experience with birth control. From a physical side, it was great, lighter, shorter periods, and no side effects. But it turned me into a miserable, emotional mess. Almost ruined my relationship with my mood swings, neediness, and constant breakdowns. It took a long time for me to begin suspecting Yaz, and it was only when the pharmacy was out and gave me Yasmin instead that my suspicions were confirmed, I am 100% happier and more emotionally stable now."

For Birth Control "I was given Yasmin by my pharmacist because the pill I usually take was out of stock. The three weeks I was on it, I became incredibly depressed. I already have a history of mental illness and depression, but before recently had been doing well. Taking Yasmin affected my mental health incredibly. By the third week, my anxiety was at an all-time high, I was suffering horrible mood swings, I was crying on and off daily, and I was beginning to suffer suicidal thoughts. I stopped taking the pill a couple of days ago and already feel an improvement. I am never taking this again. The last three weeks have been awful. I am also disappointed in my pharmacist for not warning against this and just providing it as an alternative to the pill I was previously taking, which never resulted in these side effects. If you have a history of depression or mental illness, DO NOT TAKE THIS!!!!"

For Birth Control "I've been taking Yaz for over a year now, and I'm proud to say I have nothing negative to say about it. Everything's been well, I've got lighter and shorter periods, which I love! No abnormal things happening like mood swings or hair loss like others are experiencing. I think it really just depends on the person whether this pill is right for you, no two girls are the same in that area. I recommend it."

For Acne "I switched to Yaz from Alesse because I heard it was better for acne. It did wonders for my skin, and only having a 4-day period was nice, too. However, I did notice that I was more emotional and had crazy mood swings. I found myself crying for no reason (not very good for my relationship either). I didn't gain any weight and had no other side effects. I only switched back to Alesse because my doctor expressed a concern about the blood clots possible with this birth control, otherwise, I wouldn't have switched. Good luck!!"

For Birth Control "This is my second month using this birth control, and I really like it. I started birth control on the first day of my period and did have breakthrough bleeding for around a week and a half after my period. I got my period around 4 days earlier since it was the placebo week. My period before birth control was usually heavy and lasted around a week, but I noticed it lasted only 4 days and wasn’t heavy at all. I think my body is adjusting well to the pill, and I’m expected to get my period in a week since it is the placebo week. I’m hoping it does come, cause then that means my body has adjusted and still is adjusting well to the pill. I did notice I have been a lot happier and have had a higher sex drive with the pill. Prior to the pill, I was a bit depressed, but I feel good, which is weird because a lot of girls mentioned they get really bad mood swings with the pill. Anyways, so far so good. I will come back in a few months to update you all."

For Birth Control "I have been on Yasmin for 11 and a half years. At first, I didn't have any problems. But over the last few years, I have noticed terrible things happening each month. First, it was spotting, breast tenderness, mood swings, sadness, headaches, irritability, you know, the small little things. But more severely, I have heart palpitations, dizziness, and now high blood pressure."

For Birth Control "I didn't think there was a problem, no immediate reactions, 2 years, and I'd put on 15 lb without changing my lifestyle. My (mild) acne seemed to improve, and it was great being in control of my periods. Then I became moody, emotional, combative, and depressed. Really depressed. I had migraines, at least 3 attacks a month, I had hypertension. And because I had put on so much weight, I was trying to lose it, playing football 3 times a week and going to the gym 2 times a week, no big difference, and I ate less than my slim friends. I don't smoke. I had hypertension (185/135 being the highest reading). I stopped taking it, and now I feel better, lost 10kg, happier, blood pressure is normal. Now I have polycystic ovaries, I blame that pill."

For Birth Control "It upsets me to see all these horrible reviews because I have had little to no problems on this birth control. I have been taking this pill for 6 months, my skin is great, my period is short and light, and I have had no nausea with it. I do have occasional mood swings, but nothing horrible. I highly suggest this brand."

For Birth Control "I have been on Loryna for 3 months. There were no symptoms up until the second pack, I had heavy mood swings, got really mad at little things, and became very impatient. I had never had period cramps before birth control, and when my period comes, I get painful cramps, lower back pain, and headaches. People started noticing why I wasn’t “being myself.” I’m switching because I feel miserable. But my skin looks so healthy. You can’t base your experience with birth control on all of these reviews because everyone will react differently."
